Willie Brown
Mr. Willie Brown, 58, of W. Buena Vista Avenue in North Augusta, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at Republican Grove Baptist Church in Edgefield, with the Rev. Willie Patten officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brown, a native of Edgefield County, was baptized at Republican Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Lucy L. Griffin Brown, North Augusta; seven brothers, Benjamin (Brenda) Brown, Trenton, James (Olga) Brown, Augusta, Ga., Horace (Nikki) Brown, Johnston, Douglas (Chevet) Brown, Graniteville, Robert (Sharon) Brown, Carl Brown, Orangeburg, and Anthony (Marilyn) Brown, Gainesville, Ga.; two sisters, Jonnie (Horace) Pollock, Aiken, and Diane (Roger) Moore, North Augusta; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joshua Simpkins Jr.
Mr. Joshua Simpkins Jr., 76, of 135 Jack Jones Street in Aiken, died Friday, May 28, 2010 at UniHealth Care Facility.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, at noon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Edgefield.
Mr. Simpkins was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Hattie S. Williams, Uniondale, N.Y.; special friend, Gwendolyn Williams, Aiken; two adopted sons, Anthony Holloway and Lenny Williams, both of Aiken; and a host of other relatives.

Clayton Irvin Thompson
Services for Mr. Clayton Irvin Thompson, 87, of Edgefield, were conducted Monday, May 31, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Chapel in Greenwood.
Mr. Thompsondied Friday, May 28, and was formerly of Hendersonville, N.C. born in Jasper, Minn., he was a son of the late Andrew and Christina Benson Thompson. He was a retired pharmacist and was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Patton’s 3rd Army.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Guyer Thompson; sons, Clint Thompson (Lenette) of Greenwood and Chris T. Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Lisa Miller (Mel) of Osecola, Iowa; three grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and six great-grandchildren.

Willie M. Carter
Mr. Willie M. Carter, of Murrah Road in North Augusta, died Friday, May 14, 2010. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Old Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Limuer Myers officiating.
Mr. Carter, a native of Birmingham, Ala., was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a graduate of City University of New York. He retired from the New York City Police Department/Detective Division. He was director of Safety/Security at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and founder/CEO of Dynasty Records. After moving to South Carolina, he was an independent associate/Prepaid Legal Services. He was a member of Old Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Thurmond Carter; a daughter, Doris L. Reid; four grandchildren, Dorian S. Reid, Malcolm B. (Icelean) Rhymer, Asar P. Rhymer and Rasheedah A. Rhymer; great-granddaughter, Ivanni Rhymer; brothers-in-law, David (Pearcie) Mims, James (Nettie) Thurmond, John Lee Thurmond, Wali (Marvel) Bilal, Hubert (Earnestine) Thurmond, Vernon Thurmond, Ronald Mims and Donald Thurmond; sisters-in-law, Bernice (Lannice) Fryer, Mattie Carr, Joann Curry and Elaine Lyons; and a host of other relatives.

Mr. John Gorman, 59, of Kildare Street in North Augusta, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
The Mass of Christian Burial and Prayer Vigil were celebrated Tuesday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Peter Clarke, celebrant. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Gorman; two sons, Pete Joseph Gorman and Jimmy Anthony Gorman; two sisters, Katherine Mary Gorman and Tammy Rose Gorman; two brothers, Bryan Gorman and Tommy Gorman; two sisters, Mary Katherine Sherlock and Betty Rose Carroll; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Alice Harrison, 64, of Airport Road in Trenton, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 25, at 3 p.m. at New and Living Way Apostolic Church, with Bishop William R. Cue officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Harrison, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of New and Living Way Apostolic Church where she served as an usher and a missionary. She was the co-owner and secretary of S & H Used Car Dealership. She was a graduate of W.E. Parker High School.
Survivors include her husband, George E. Harrison, Trenton; a son, Wendell (Betty) Stevens, Trenton; two daughters, Sharon S. Mr. John Wallace “J.W.” Holson, 80, of Gray Street in Edgefield, husband of Carolyn Walker Holson, died Saturday May 22, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.
Mr. Holson was a native of Edgefield County and was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. He was retired from E.I. Dupont.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Hugh (Patricia) Holson, Boca Raton, Fla.; a daughter, Marie Holson (Bill) Stinger, McLean, Va.; two grandchildren, Brittany and Cole Stinger.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fay K. Maddox, of North Augusta, were held Friday, May 21, 2010 at New Life Worship Center in Hephzibah, Ga. Burial was in Jerusalem Baptist Church cemetery in Ridge Spring.
Survivors include four daughters, Richetta Daniel, Lillian Elam, Alleen Maddox and Diane Maddox; a son, Richard Maddox II; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jasper Eugene “Jack” McDaniel
Mr. Jasper Eugene "Jack" McDaniel, 75, of North Augusta, husband of Barbara N. McDaniel, died Friday, May 21, 2010 at National Healthcare.
His funeral service was held Monday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at Belvedere First Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Meyer, Dr. Roy Head, the Rev. Phillip McNeal and the Rev. Lloyd Prince officiating. Burial followed in Pineview Memorial Park.
Mr. McDaniel was a native of Edgefield County. He was the son of the late Charlie Francis and Nellie Holmes McDaniel. He was a member of Belvedere First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a Sunday School director and was on various other committees.
Additional survivors include a brother, Coy T. McDaniel of Johnston; two sisters, Azell Mundy of Belvedere and Ann Burkhalter of Cedartown, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mary Ellen Ferrell Pittman
Mrs. Mary Ellen Ferrell Pittman, 82, of Wayland Street in Warrenville, died Saturday, May 22, 2010.
Funeral services celebrating her life were held Monday, May 24, at 2 p.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church in Clearwater, with Pastor Tad Marshall and the Rev. Bill Reese officiating. Burial was in Westview cemetery in Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Pittman was born in Augusta, Ga. on July 11, 1927 to the late Herman F. Farrell and Rosa Lee (Usry) Ferrell. She was known as Mother, Momma, Nanny, Nina and May-May and retired from South Aiken Baptist Church after 25 years of dedicated service. She was a charter member of Lakeside Baptist Church (formerly Piney Heights Baptist Church) where she was a member for over 41 years of which she worked in the nursery for over 33 years. She was also a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. Mrs. Pittman will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will always be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Paulette Pittman, Warrenville, and Judy (Jeff) Davis, Beech Island; three grandchildren, Michael (Shelia) Rosier, Trenton, Mark (Camille) Rosier, Graniteville, and Becky Rosier, North Augusta; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Griffin, Sara Rosier and Dylan Rosier; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Flo Harveston, DeAlice Strickland, Frankie (Collene) Price, Robert (Annette) McFarland, Gene (Dorothy) Youngblood, John (Bobbie) Futch, Michael (Ann) Coursey, Silas (Sarah) Pittman, and Tillman A. Harper.

Mary Virginia “Ginny” Putnam, 83, of 112 Augusta Circle in Greenwood, widow of Vernon "Rock" Putnam, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at Hospice House.
Services were held Thursday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Harley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Reuel Westbrook and the Rev. Richard McWhite officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
born in Ninety Six on Aug. 17, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Eddie and Irma Haltiwanger Corley. She was retired from The County Bank and was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Putnam Teseneer and her husband, Stan, of Bradley and Pat Putnam Spaid and her husband, David, of Metter, GA; two granddaughters, Jessica and Brittany Spaid of Metter; two brothers, Ed Corley of Laurens and Eddie "Bubba" Corley of Gray Court; two sisters, Nita Taylor of Greer and Nancy Turner of Johnston; sisters-in-law, Jane Corley of Johnston and Dot Boyd of Greenwood; and brother-in-law, Tommie Christie of Edgefield. She loved her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Corley of Johnston and Bill Corley of Raleigh, NC and a sister, Ann Corley Christie of Edgefield.

Mr. Rice, a native of Wahalla, died Thursday, May 20, 2010. He was a son of the late John and Carrie Graham Rice. Mr. Rice had an auto repair and wrecker service and was self- employed.
