Thurmond Gregory “Greg” Lewis
Memorial services for Mr. Thurmond Gregory "Greg" Lewis, 59, of Currytown Road in North Augusta, who died Monday, May 3, 2010, were conducted Wednesday, May 5, at 4 p.m. at Bel-Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Earl Welch officiating.
Mr. Lewis was a native of Aiken, having made North Augusta his home for the past 35 years. He was a member of Bel-Ridge Baptist Church, employed by Prayon, Inc. and an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Judy Lewis; a son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Cara Lewis, North Augusta; a daughter, Tonya Lewis, Lexington; three grandchildren, Hope Lewis, Laura Lewis and Bethany Lewis; two brothers, Larry E. Lewis, Ridge Spring, and Carlos Lewis, North Augusta; and a sister, Marilyn Swearingen, Greensboro, N.C.

Edward John Martin
Mr. Edward John Martin, 50, of Trenton, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at his residence.
A memorial service was held at his home on Tuesday, May 11, at 11 a.m.
born in Riverdale, Md., he was a son of Mrs. Marion Kendall Martin, North Augusta, and the late Henry L. Martin and had lived in Trenton most of his life and worked at Old McDonald’s Catfish Farm. He enjoyed his land and his animals and was well known for building models, especially trains.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Ruth Taylor and Cathy Martin, both of North Augusta, and Therese Carver, St. Augustine, Fla.; and two brothers, Dennis Martin and Hank Martin, both of North Augusta.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by two brothers, William Henry Martin and David Thomas Martin.

Gladys Adams McKie
Mrs. Gladys Adams McKie, 81, of Groves, North Augusta, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at Trinity Hospital .
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at Old Piney Grove Baptist Church in Edgefield, with the Rev. Louis T. Coley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. McKie, a native of Edgefield, was a member of Willow Spring Baptist Church in Edgefield.
Survivors are eight daughters, Johnnie Mae Day, Eunice M. Hampton (Timothy), Lydia M. McKinney (Isaac), Marion M. Jones (Ralph), G. Gardenia McKie, Vivian M. Price (Richard), Blandenia M. Mrs. Endia Mims, 71, of Ridge Road in North Augusta, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Limuer Myers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Mims, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher's Ministry and the Deaconess Ministry.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary (Milledge, Jr.) Callaham and Marilyn Mims; six sons, Argentina Mims, Herbert Mims, John (Kimberly) Mims, Henry J. (Machell) Mims, Jonathan (Katrina) Mims and Marcus Mims; five sisters, Luvina McKie, Alesa (James) Crawford, Susie (David) Williams, Mary (Robert) Freeman, and Ruth (Herman) McKie; a brother, J.C. (Ida) Mims; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Glennie Lybrand Yonce
Funeral services for Mrs. Glennie Lybrand Yonce, 89, of Johnston, were held Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Yonce, a native of Edgefield County, died Thursday, May 6. She was a daughter of the late Tommie Tigue and Tura Satcher Lybrand. During Mrs. Yonce's life she had various occupations including secretary at Graniteville Company, home economist with the Clemson Extension Service, and she had worked in the Edgefield County Magistrate's office and Sheriff's office. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church .
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Y. Goodwin (Bruce), Canal Winchester, Ohio; a son, H.K. Yonce, Jr. (Debbie), Johnston; a brother, Tommy T. Lybrand Jr., Aiken; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman K. Yonce Sr.

Ferdie Maureen Carpenter Brown
Mrs. Ferdie Maureen Carpenter Brown, 89, of Modoc, and formerly of Aiken, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Sunrise Assisted Living Facility in Fairfax, Va.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, at Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Patton officiating. Burial with U.S. Navy honors will follow in Bethany cemetery.
Her husband of 60 years, Richard Atticus Brown, died in 2006. Mrs. Brown was born in Trigg County, Ky. the youngest daughter of Ferdinand and Iva Hollowell Carpenter. During World War II, she served in the Navy WAVES and she retired in 1985 from the J.M. Huber Corporation in Langley after 26 years of employment. She was passionate about genealogical research and belonged to numerous organizations relating history and heritage, including the Colonial Dames XVII Century (Henry Tyler Chapter), the Order of the Eastern Star (Queen City Chapter 141), Daughters of the American Revolution (Trenton Chapter) and the Society of Mareen Duvall Descendants. She enjoyed spending time with members of Modoc Baptist Church, Modoc Shores Association and the “M” Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Cheryl “Sherry” Browett and her husband Richard L. Browett of Fairfax, Va.; her granddaughter, Alyson M. Browett and her husband John P. Ralph of Purcellville, Va.; her grandson, Michael S. Browett and his wife Kristi Browett of Sparks, Nev.; two nieces, Gloria Fleming Sierra of Benton, Ky., and Patti Carpenter of Commerce, Colo.; and two nephews, William Fleming and John Fleming of Benton, Ky.

Lois Harris Clark
Mrs. Lois Harris Clark, of Edgefield, died Monday, May3, 2010 at her residence after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at Ward Baptist Church in Ward, with burial to follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. The family is at the home Louise and Steve Robertson, 121 Ward Avenue in Ward.
Mrs. Clark, a native of Ward, was a daughter of Steve and Louise Gibson Harris Robertson and the late Charles Dave Harris. She graduated from Ridge Spring-Monetta High School and received a B.S. degree in education from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. and a master’s degree. She taught elementary school in both Aiken County and Edgefield County. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year at W.E. Parker Elementary School in 2000 and also Teacher of the Year for Edgefield County. Mrs. Clark retired from Edgefield County School District with 38 years of service. She was a member of Ward Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Blake Clark, Edgefield; a sister, Sandra Harris (Tom) Housel, Shelby, N.C.; and her parents of Ward.

Mrs. Herlaine “Deen” Reynolds Counts 46, of Catland Woods in North Augusta, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at her residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, at noon at Mims Grove Baptist Church in North Augusta, with the Rev. G.L. Brightharp officiating. Burial was in Mt. Canaan Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Counts attended Strom Thurmond High School. She was employed by Southern Home Care Services. She was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Aaron A. Counts; three sons, Torey Counts, Antonio Counts and Aaron A. Counts; her parents, Blanche Brightharp Reynolds and the Rev. James (Elaine) Reynolds; three sisters, Terri (Reggie) Erica (Maurice) Tutt and Lafeyette Reynolds; two brothers, Earl Reynolds and Rafael Gowdy; a grandson, Nathan Stevens; maternal grandmother, Viola B. Mr. Leon D. Dixon, 78, of Aiken, died Saturday, April 24, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Aiken, with the Rev. T.C. Edwards officiating. Burial was in Holy Hill cemetery in Pee Dee in Marion County.
Mr. Dixon was a native of Marion County. He graduated from Marion County High School and lived in Westbury, N.Y. for 49 years, where he retired from Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage, N.Y. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Hempstead, N.Y. In 2001, he relocated in Aiken where he joined Willow Spring Baptist Church and he was the owner of a cattle farm in Johnston.
Survivors include his wife, Reba; a son, Darrell (Michelle) Dixon; two daughters, Deborah (Ronald) Wade and Denise (Gregory) Reshard; a brother, Mingo (Eva) Dixon; two sisters, Melenia Botts, Cynthia (Larry) LaPorte’; a special nephew, Leverne (Anna) Dixon; six grandchildren, Ciara, Amani, Camden, Devon, Justin and Deborah; four brothers-in-law, Felix McManus, Newark, N.J., Lawrence McManus, Johnston, Gilmore McManus, Andrews and Bobby McManus, Hampstead, N.Y; four sisters-in-law, Cornelia McManus, Myrtle Beach, Doris Freeman, Edgefield, Juanita Robinson, Aiken, and Cassandra McManus, Johnston; and a host of nieces, nephews and special cousins.

Christopher Gorman
Mr. Christopher Gorman, of Amelia Drive in North Augusta, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at University Hospital.
The Mass of Christian Burial and Prayer Vigil were celebrated Saturday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Cherian Thalakulam, celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Gorman; a son, Tommy A. Gorman; four daughters, Susan Gorman, Kathleen Gorman, Christina Costello and Theresa Ann Bagwell; three brothers, Bryan Gorman, Tommy Gorman and John L. Gorman; and two sisters, Mary Catherine Sherlock and Betty Rose Carroll.

Ronald E. Gorniak
Mr. Ronald E. Gorniak of Demotte, Ind., formerly of Dolton, Ill, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral Mass was held on Monday, April 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Demotte, with Monsignor Robert Sell officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross Catholic cemetery in Calumet City, Ill. A luncheon was held at Steve’s Hall in the Hegewisch neighborhood of Chicago. Afterwards, the children and grandchildren visited the grocery store where Mr. Gorniak worked as a meat cutter in his early adulthood. A prayer service was held on Sunday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at Jackson Funeral Home in Demotte. The Lincoln Way School Winterguard dedicated their performance on April 10 to him at their competition in Dayton, Ohio, where his granddaughter Hannah’s squad placed second. His son John’s co-workers at Eli Lilly sponsored a hole at the Relay for Life golf tournament in his honor.
Mr. Gorniak was born Aug. 28, 1934 in Chicago to Edward and Edna Wasik Gormack (name Americanized). He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church of Demotte where he was active until his health declined. He was an avid Notre Dame, Bears, White Sox and Blackhawks fan.
He is survived by his five children, Michael (Terese Sorenson) Gorniak, Braham, N.M., John (Lisa) Gorniak, Edgefield, Thomas Gorniak, Lexington, Ky., Holly (David) Supercgynski, Merrionette Park, Ill., and Lynne (Barry) O’Flynn, New Lenox, Ill.; six grandchildren; and a brother, Dave Gorniak of Roselawn, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia Palasik Gorniak; and his son, David.
