Ralph Edward Deason Sr.
Mr. Ralph Edward Deason Sr., 88, of Greenfield Road in McCormick and Forest View Manor, widower of Lois Edwards Deason, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010 at Hospice House in Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. at Republican United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phillip Bostrom and the Rev. Don Alexander officiating. Burial with military rites followed in the McCormick City cemetery.
born in McCormick County on May 18, 1922, Mr. Deason was a son of the late John Bart and Pearl Weeks Deason. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served in the Old Hickory 30th Division, 117th Infantry. He served in five major battles in the European Theatre. He was a retired farmer and cattleman. A lifelong member of Republican United Methodist Church, he was also a member of J.B. Walker Sunday School class and the Republican United Methodist Church Men’s Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #19, the VFW, the McCormick Chapter of the S.C. Cattleman’s Association and was a charter member of the Sandy Branch Fire Department.
Surviving are a daughter, Ginnie and husband Jimmy Smith of McCormick; three sons, Ralph Edward Deason Jr., Johnnie and wife Lucinda Deason, and Timmy and wife Debbie Deason, all of McCormick; four sisters, Lib West and Grace and husband Wallace Wright, all of McCormick, Jean Quarles of Edgefield, and Dot and husband Billy Scott of Fort Mill; five grandchildren, Kirk and wife Michelle Smith, Jacob and Kaylee Deason, Jade and Jordyn Deason; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Andrew Smith.
Mr. Deason was predeceased by brothers, J.C. and Ronnie Deason; a sister, Eunice Deason; and a granddaughter, Kariana Smith.

Mr. Thomas Gray Sr., 59, of Johnston, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010.

Mrs. Beatrice Mays Jones, 66, of North Augusta, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. at Young Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Allen Transou officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jones, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Young Macedonia Baptist Church.

Azalena Bridges Thomas
Azalena Bridges Thomas, 97, of Johnston, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010. She was the widow of the late Hasting Adrian Thomas and the daughter of the late Will Bridges and Ada Temples Bridges. She was born in Saluda County in 1913.
A funeral service to celebrate her life was held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at noon, with burial in the church cemetery.
After the death of her father, Mrs. Thomas was reared by her grandparents, Mattie McGee Temples and James Henry Temples, in Blythe, Ga. She had three sisters, all deceased, and a brother, also deceased. She was a graduate of Blyth High School. She has been a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church since 1935. the garden club and Eastern Star Chapter (Worthy Matron, Life Member).
She is survived by four children, Adrian Wesley Thomas (Martha), Cedric Lee Thomas(Sue), Glenda Anne Thomas Sinclair(Richard), and Glenn Hasting Thomas (Nancy).

Melvin Ray Faglier
Mr. Melvin Ray Faglier, 68, of Martinez, Ga., died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Harlem, Ga., with the Rev. Michael Sulphin and the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Faglier was retired from Bowman Transportation and Augusta Coca-Cola. He ran Carolina Jamboree in Belvedere for seven years. He was a member of the Martinez Lodge #710 and the Scottish Rite. He attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.
Mr. Faglier was preceded in death by his father, William Cleon Faglier Sr.; his mother, Ouida Iola Faglier; brothers, Cleon Faglier Jr. and Glenn Faglier; and a sister, Grace Faglier.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl K. Howard Faglier; sons, Keith (Angela) Faglier and Steve (Tori) Faglier; a stepson, Jerry (Robbie) Reese; a stepdaughter, Lynn (Jerry) Brooks; grandchildren, Michael Faglier, Shelby Gin and Macey Gin; step-grandchildren, Sarah, Ronnie (Heather), Randy, Sandra and Gracie; brothers, Wilbur (Faye), W.J. Mr. Pat Garrard Gorman, 56, husband of the late Catherine Carroll Gorman, of North Augusta, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
The Mass of Christian Burial and Prayer Vigil were celebrated Monday, Aug. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Cherian Thalakulam as celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.

Mr. Moates was a native of Newberry. He was employed with McDonald’s of Edgefield.

Mrs. Elaine Faye Sanders Peppers, 55, wife of the late Jack Hugh Peppers Sr. and Larry Alan Wilkerson, of Modoc, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, Ga.

Mrs. Peppers was born in Tokyo, Japan and lived most of her life in the Augusta area. She was a licensed practical nurse and a Methodist.

Mrs. Nora Jane Moore Pitcher, 69, of Joy Road in Grovetown, Ga., died Friday Aug. 6, 2010 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.
Mrs. Pitcher was born in Edgefield, and worked at Graniteville Company and Clearwater Finishing Plant. She retired as a bus driver for Columbia County.

John W. Shealy Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. John W. Shealy Sr., of North Augusta, who died Aug. 3, 2010, were conducted Friday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Johnston. The Rev. James Houck officiated. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church cemetery.
Mr. Shealy was a native of Lexington, a former resident of Aiken, having made North Augusta his home for the past six years. He retired from Graniteville Company. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council, and was a member and past master of the Star Masonic Lodge #99 AFM.
Survivors include his wife, Lee Ann Shealy; a son and daughter-in-law, John W. “Rusty” Jr. and Lynne Shealy, Lexington; two brothers, Paul R. Shealy, Chapin, and Dr. Guy H. Shealy, Rock Hill; a sister, Eleanor S. Rawl, Lexington; two grandchildren, Jennifer Shealy and Steven Shealy.
