Raymond Cook

Mr. Raymond Cook, 73, husband of Barbara Thomas Cook, entered into rest on Sunday, December 05, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga. with his family by his side.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by a daughter, Gayle (Eddie) Wilson of Edgefield, a son, Thomas (Brenda) Cook of Trenton, a brother, Larry (Pam) Cook of Trenton, and six grandchildren: Allyson Wilson, Charleston; Justin Wilson, Myrtle Beach; Josh Wilson, Spartanburg; Mitch Cook, Aiken; Kelsey Cook and Collin Cook, Trenton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and ruby Langley Cook and a son, Mike Cook.

Raymond was a farmer and partner in Cook’s Roadside Market in Trenton. He drew his strength from tilling soil and was happiest walking the orchard or plowing the fields. Before retiring in 1985, he taught welding at Aiken Vocational School for 18 years. He also served on the Edgefield County School Board of Trustees for 15 years. He was a member of Trenton United Methodist Church where he was serving as Chairman of the Administrative Council.

Funeral Services will be held today, December 8, at 11 a.m. at Trenton United Methodist Church with the Reverend Cheryl Toothe officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer cemetery in Trenton. Pallbearers will be Carroll Clark, Reg Williams, Ric Vann, Danny Day, Huck Moss, and Tony Watson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trenton United Methodist Church, 1242 Augusta Road, Trenton, SC 29847.

Edgefield Mercantile Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

C.H. Robinson

Mr. C.H. Robinson, 63, husband of Patricia(Pat) Camp Robinson, of Pine Knoll Lane, died Monday December 6, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday December 9, 2010 at 2 P.M. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Robinson was born in Roanoke, Ala. And was the son of the late Vinion Robinson and Alice Walker Robinson. He was retired Regional Manager of Suburban Propane and was the Director of Industry Relations for Suburban Propane.He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his Wife, his Mother, 1 son- Chip (Laurie) Robinson, Edgefield, 2 Grandchildren- Matthew and Lauren; 2 Brothers- Robbie Robinson, Sharpsburg, Ga., Sam Robinson, Lake Villa, Ill.; a special cousin- Cheryl Meyer, Detroit, Mich.

Pallbearers will be David Miller, Lane Wise, John Delaughter, Brian Dowler, Buzz Byrd, Tommy Rushin, W. Thurmond Burnett, and Roy Stribble.

Memorials may be made to Edgefield County Hospital, P.O. Box 590 Edgefield, S.C. 29824 or Relay for Life of Edgefield, 307 Lynch St. Edgefield, S.C. 29824.

The family is at the home and will receive friends today from 6 to 8 P.M. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

David B. Satcher

Mr. David Byron Satcher, 50, of Twin Pines Drive, died Sunday 10-31-10 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday 11-2-10 at 2 PM at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home. Burial will follow with Masonic Rites in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park Edgefield, SC.

Mr. Satcher was a native of Augusta, Ga. He was of the Baptist Faith and a former service manager for Vic’s Motorcycles of Augusta, Ga. He was a member of Kadosh #181 Lodge in Johnston.

Survivors include his wife-Beth Satcher; one daughter-Kelley A. Satcher, West Columbia; 1 Granddaughter- Kailyn Johnson; mother- Peggy H. Satcher, Lexington; step-parents- Edsel & Darlene Thomas, Johnston; one brother- Richard H. Satcher, Oldsmar, Fl; one sister- Julie S. Wadford, St. Stephens, SC. He was predeceased by his father Herman E. Satcher and a sister Deborah S. Rush.

Memorials may be made to Special Funds Account Michael Wiggins P.O. Box 204313, Augusta, Ga 30917.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 11-2-10 from 12 to 2 PM prior to the service at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Lewis Fulmer

Memorial services for Mr. Lewis Fulmer, 93, of Johnston, were held Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Bland Funeral Home chapel, with a private burial that followed.

Mr. Fulmer, a native of Johnston, died Tuesday, Oct. 26. He was the son of late Ollie and Stella Stevens Fulmer. He retired after 40 years of service with South Carolina Electric & Gas and 22 years at J.W. Yonce & Sons Farms.

He is survived by his son, Mike Fulmer (Rhonda); daughter-in-law, Helen Merchant Fulmer; sister, Elizabeth “Lib” Fulmer Hendrix (James); brothers, Pete Fulmer, Bill Fulmer, George Fulmer (Sarah); sister-in-law, Blanche Fulmer; grandchildren, Chantsie Fulmer LaTorre (Chris), Sarah Fulmer Harris (Jason); and great-grandchildren, Christopher Hunter LaTorre, Carolina Chantsie LaTorre and Moira Hampton Harris.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice Wood Fulmer; a son, Roderick “Roddie” Fulmer; and a brother, Frank Fulmer.

Memorials may be made to Johnston First Baptist Church, 700 Church St., Johnston, SC 29205.

Larry Eugene Knight

Mr. Larry Eugene “Gene” Knight, of Knight Lane in Trenton, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. at Young Macedonia Baptist Church on Briggs Road in North Augusta, with the Rev. Allen L. Transou, pastor, and the Rev. Limeur Myers, eulogist, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Knight was the 10th child born to the late Tommie and Sally Aliean Simpkins Knight and was a native of Edgefield County. He was a graduate of W.E. Parker High School, class of 1963, where he received high honors.

Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Phiniezy (Henderson), Beech Island; two sons, Melton Knight (Rhonda), Hiram, Georgia and Leonard Knight (Rosalind), Shellville, Ga.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mattie Marie Loman (Milton), Trenton; two brothers, Roosevelt Knight, Washington, D.C. and Henry G. Knight, Trenton; four sisters-in-law, Fannie Knight, Trenton, Mattie Knight, New Jersey, Geraldine Knight, Augusta, Ga., and Mary Knight, Aiken; a brother-in-law, Charlie R. McCain, Trenton; an aunt, Rebecca Hillary (Wallace), North Augusta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

W.H. Mays Mortuary, James Brown Boulevard in Augusta, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.

Timothy E. Martin

Funeral services for Mr. Timothy E. Martin, of Aiken, were held Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Amos & Sons Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Richetta Daniels officiated. Burial was in Lottie Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Martin was employed with Shaws Industries.

Survivors include his soul mate, Renea Taylor, Aiken; a brother, Fred Michael (Courtney) Martin, New York; sisters, Annie Mae Martin, Jacqueline Faye Martin, Adrena (Cheyenne Hill) Martin, Vivian F. Martin, Lisa M. (John) Martin, all of Johnston; and a special niece, April L. Martin.
Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston, was in charge of arrangements.

Eddie A. “Bubba” Thomas

Mr. Eddie A. “Bubba” Thomas, 66, of Gary Street in Edgefield, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. at Jeter Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jasper Lloyd officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thomas, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Jeter Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Thomas; three sons, Craig Thomas, Scott Thomas and Michael Thomas; three brothers, Willie B. (Georgia) Thomas, Johnny (Eve) Thomas and Willie (Sadie) Thomas; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, Edgefield, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. W. Preston Morgan

Mr. W. Preston Morgan, 85, of Old Chappells Ferry Rd., husband of Alma Quarles Morgan, died Sunday October 17, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday Oct. 19, 2010 at 11 A.M. at Rocky Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Morgan was born in Edgefield County and was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from the Savannah River Site. He was a WW II Army Veteran and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, 4 Daughters-Rita (Tony) Callahan, Greenville, Susan Conley Edgefield, Brenda (John) Hammond, Raleigh, N.C., Nancy (Buddy) DeLoach, Saluda; 1 Son- Brooks (Mary) Morgan, Edgefield; 3 Sisters- Margaret Hammond, Johnston, Sarah Brooks Barnes, Greenville, Julia Bledsoe, Johnston; 12 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren. Mr. Morgan was Predeceased by his first wife Marquerite Turner Morgan, a step-son- Joe Williams, and a brother-Boyce Morgan.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Mr. Robert L. (Bob) Doran

Mr. Robert L. (Bob) Doran, 77, of Johnston, S.C., husband of the late Minnie Page Doran, died Monday October 18, 2010 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday October 20, 2010 at 11 A.M. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Doran was born in Virginia and he was a retired Farmer.

Survivors include 1 daughter- Kathy Doran, 5 Sons- Gary (Chrissie) Doran, Terry (Ann) Doran, Jerry (Jennifer) Doran, Rick (Jamie) Doran, Randy (Farrah) Doran. 3 Sisters- Dorothy Caldwell, Margie Hann, Ruth Moore; 2 Brothers- Denver and Roy Doran.; and 11 Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Mr. William ‘Billy’ Frampton Gibson

Funeral services for Mr. William “Billy” Frampton Gibson, 89, of Johnston, were held Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Johnston First Baptist Church, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Gibson, a native of Ward, died Thursday, Sept. 22. He was a son of the late Thomas Allen and Eva Marie McIntosh Gibson. Mr. Gibson was owner of Gibson Building Company. He was a member of American Legion Post 154, VFW, and Johnston First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Gibson; his son, William Jeffrey Gibson; daughters, Linda Smith (Buddy) and Judy Holmes; step-daughters, Tyra Miller (Billy) and Marsha Rearden (Chan); a sister, Louise Robertson (Steve); nine grandchildren, Lisa Crawford Hall, Matthew Frampton Smith, Haley Locklair, Chase Miller, Zack Rearden, Carly Rearden, Raleigh Rearden, Robbie Smith and Sheila Smith Crow; six great-grandchildren, Austin Hall, Kayla Hall, Kirsti Smith, Luke Smith, Nicole Smith and Cody Crow; and special sisters-in-law and niece, Geraldine Goff, Marilyn Fain and Cindy Dyer.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his first wife, Iris Hallman Gibson.

Mary Kemp

Memorial services for Ms. Mary E. Kemp, of Edgefield, were held Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Clark officiating.

Jimmy G. Riley

The Funeral Mass and Prayer Vigil for Mr. Jimmy Gerard Riley, 53, husband of Mary Catherine Riley, of North Augusta, was celebrated Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Cherian Thalakulam as celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.

Additional survivors include two sons, Brandon Riley and John Eric Riley; a daughter, Catherine Mary Riley; three brothers, Eddie Riley, Tommy Martin Riley and Johnny Riley; three sisters, Patricia Riley, Teresa Riley and Jeannie Riley and six grandchildren, Eddie Polo Riley, Johnny Sire Riley, Katlyn Riley, Sadie Riley, Jimmy Rollins Riley and Patrick Brando Riley.

Rowland Funeral Home, North Augusta, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gerard “Pedro” Doolittle

Mr. Gerard “Pedro” Doolittle, 62, of Bishop’s Circle, husband of Brenda Doolittle, died Monday September 26, 2011 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday September 29, 2011 at 11 A.M. at Red Oak Grove Baptist Church with burial in the Church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Mr. Doolittle was a native of Edgefield County and a member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was the Owner Operator of Metal Specialist of Augusta, Ga. Mr. Doolittle was a 32 nd degree Mason and a member of Parksville Lodge # 199 in Parksville, S.C. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and a member of the Jamil Temple, both in Columbia, S.C.

Survivors include his wife Brenda, 1 Son- Dee Doolittle; 2 Daughters- Brittney Tucker and Ashley Beasley, all of Evans, Ga.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Sandra Reece Friar

Mrs. Sandra Reece Friar, 58, of Addison Street in Edgefield, wife of Joe Horace Friar, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 at her residence.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.

Mrs. Friar was the daughter of Amelia Davis (Boots) Reece and the late John W. Reece, and was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. She was the public information director for the Edgefield County School District, with 28 years of service.

In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include a son, Joseph E. Friar; two daughters, April (Eric) Holt and Anna (Chad) Joyner; two brothers, Jack (Sandra) Reece and Danny (Myra) Reece; four grandchildren, Landon, Reece, Hannah and Ethan.

Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Rutland Kneece

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Rutland Kneece, 91, of Ridge Spring, were held Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Ridge Spring Baptist Church. Officiating was Pastor Chris Yeargin. Burial was in Ridge Spring cemetery.

Pallbearers were Herbert E. Kneece, Guy E. Rutland, Andrew G. Rutland, William C. Rutland, Mark E. Rutland and Richard Miller.

Mrs. Kneece, widow of Arthur C. Kneece, died Monday, Sept. 5. born in Ridge Spring, she was the daughter of the late Lake J. and Hassie Kirkland Rutland. She was a lifetime resident of Ridge Spring and a faithful member of Ridge Spring Baptist Church. She and her husband were co-owners of Tire and Oil Company for 50 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Elaine K. Dubose (Clark); granddaughters, Alysia Ketchum (Steelman) and Dr. Amanda DuBose; great-grandchildren, Steelman D. Ketchum, Anna Ketchum and Mae Ketchum.

She was predeceased by two brothers, A.G. Rutland and Guy Rutland.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210-1790.

Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic B-L Chapel, assisted the family with arrangements.

Martha S. “Doll Baby” Ouzts

Mrs. Martha S. “Doll Baby” Ouzts, 91, of Edgefield, wife of the late Albert R. Ouzts, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial in Eastview cemetery.

Mrs. Ouzts was a native of Edgefield County and was a retired textile worker.

Survivors include nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jean Hughes.

Pete “Bumper” Sherlock

Mr. Pete “Bumper” Sherlock, 85, husband of Margaret O'Hara Sherlock, of Mistletoe Court in North Augusta, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

His Funeral Mass and Prayer Vigil were celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Davis Panakkal as celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.

Additional survivors include two sons, Pat Sherlock and Johnny Sherlock; two daughters, Cathy Carroll and Mary McNally; and a brother, Pierre Sherlock.

Rowland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
