Everette Leon Harris, 80, of 226 Harris Circle Extension, husband of Marian Farr Harris, died Friday, April 3, 2003, at 12:45 p.m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
Martha S. Norman
Martha Sylvia Norman, 78, of 111 New St., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Oakmont of Union. A native of Union, she was a daughter of the late Robert Norman and Addie Jeter Norman. She was on the Usher Board and in the Singing Jubilee Choir of McBeth Baptist Church. She was a domestic worker-cook.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Norman of Union; a granddaughter, Lajuan Payne of Union; and a brother, John Henry Norman of Jacksonville, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at McBeth Baptist Church, Highway 49, by the Rev. T.D. Mouney. Visitation will be today from 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Union Community Funeral Home. The family is at the home, 111 New St. The Union Community Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Mildred Allen Gause
JOANNA Mildred Allen Gause, 83, of 400 West Calhoun St. and widow of William Duane Gause died Friday, April 2, 2004, at her home. Mrs. Gause was born in Buffalo and was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Mattie O'Shields Allen. She was retired from Greenwood Mills Joanna plant and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Surviving are her sisters, Evelyn Brown of Buffalo and Dorothy Fowler of Jonesville; and brothers Frank Allen of Columbia and William Allen of Covington, Ky. Funeral services were conducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Gray Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday from 3 to 4:30 at the funeral home. Gray Funeral Home of Clinton.
Barbara Jean Hancock
WHITMIRE Miss Barbara Jean Hancock, 65, of 267 Hunter Road, Whitmire, departed this life on Friday, April 2, 2004, at her home. Born in Union County, she was the daughter of the late James and Hattie Mary McClurkin Hancock. Miss Hancock was a member of Seekwell Baptist Church, Maybinton Community, Whitmire. A 1956 graduate of Sims High School, she furthered her education in nursing in Washington, D.C., and became an R.N. She retired from Renfro of Whitmire in 2003.
She leaves to cherish fond memories three daughters, Alice T. Gilliam of Whitmire, Sandra Worth of Columbia and Arlene Dawkins of Laurens; two sons, James (Jimmy) Thompson of Union and Larkin Thompson of the home; a sister, Mary Yvonne Monroe of Whitmire; a brother, the Rev. Larkin L. Hancock of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one uncle, three aunts and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Seekwell Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery with the pastor, Rev. Tonnie Collins, officiating. The family is at the home. Service is under the directions of Sanders-Thompson-Clinton. Mallonee M. Jimmie Lou Peake 65, Carlisle, husband of Virginia Mobley Peake, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Whitney Funeral Home.
Mallonee M. Hubbard
Mallonee Moorefield Hubbard, 85, of 113 Douglas Heights, widow of Clark Hubbard, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at 8:15 a.m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mrs. Hubbard was born in Hickory Grove, N.C., on Jan. 21, 1919, a daughter of the late Lester and Etta Idol Moorefield. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, the Episcopal Church Women and a former member of the Union Garden Club and a former Girl Scout Leader.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara H. Elliott of the home and Nancy H. Weinert of Oldsmar, Fla.; two sons, Bob Hubbard of Daphne, Fla., and Ed Hubbard of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Bobby Moorefield of Plantation, Fla.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity conducted by Father Edward Meeks. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 113 Douglas Heights, Union. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 320 S. Church St., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. James P. Mobley
James Phillip (Phil) Mobley, 53, of 217 Bobo St., Union, widower of Brenda (Roddey) Mobley, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Heathcare System. Mr. Mobley was born in Chester on March 28, 1951, a son of the late Harvey Mobley and Maggie (Darby) Mobley. He was a member of Wilksburg Baptist Church and was owner of B.I.J. Trucking. He attended Chester High School and was a member of the Chester Drag Racing Club.
Surviving are a companion with whom he made his home, Ginger Crowe of Union; a daughter, Lisa Mobley Poag of Chester; a son, James Phillip Mobley Jr., of Lockhart; three sisters, Magdalene James of Inman, Nancy Keenan of Chester and Alma Lee Roof of Boiling Springs; five brothers, Winfield, Zeddie, Doodle Johnny and Hoppy Mobley, all of Chester; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilksburg Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Charles Terry and the Rev. Elton Hunter. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wilksburg Baptist Church, 3121 Pinckney Road, Chester, S.C. 29706. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester. Barron Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Benjamin Rodgers Sr.
JONESVILLE Benjamin Rodgers Sr., 79, of 1010 West Springs Highway, Jonesville, husband of Annie Belle Smith Rodgers, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at his home after a long illness. He was born in Union County on July 12, 1924, a son of the late Junious Rodgers Jr. and Emma Boyd Rodgers. He was retired from Union Mill after 30 years service. Mr. Rodgers was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and a deacon of the church. He also was a member of Foster Chapel Enterprise Masonic Lodge #460.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Annie Ruth Rodgers, Geraldine R. (Lucius Jr.) Rice and Marjorie Rodgers Rogers, all of Jonesville; a son, Benjamin (Sarah) Rodgers Jr. of Jonesville; four sisters, Emma Lee Rodgers and Helen Rodgers Fleming, both of Spartanburg; the Rev. Ella Mae Hardy of Jonesville and Ruth McKissick of Chicago, Ill; four brothers, Samuel Rodgers and Emerson Rodgers, both of Spartanburg and Willie Rodgers and J.V. Rodgers, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, three great--grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Baptist Church in Jonesville with the Rev. Dwayne Cooper and the Rev. David S. Moore officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 1010 West Springs Highway, Jonesville. The Carolina Mortuary has charge of the arrangements.
Odell Allison
PACOLET William Odell Allison, 84, of 1081 E. Main Street, Pacolet, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Oakmont Nursing Home. A native of Mayo, he was a son of the late John William and Annie Henderson Allison. He was retired from Pacolet Manufacturing Co. A member of Pacolet United Methodist Church, he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and the church choir. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Allison. Survivors include his wife, Evie Petty Allison of the home; a son, Larry O. Allison of Boiling Springs; a daughter, Barbara A. Barker, of Pacolet; two brothers, Lloyd Allison and Robert Allison, both of Pacolet; three sisters, Rosa Lee McCraw of Cannon Campground, Nettie Mae Kirby of Pacolet, and Dora Faye O'Shields of Spartanburg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Sunday night at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Funeral services were held at 11 this morning at FloydÕs Pacolet Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Perry Evatt. Burial was in Pacolet Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home. J. F. Floyd Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Jimmy Chambers
PAULINE James (Jimmy) Chambers Jr., 64, of 5981 Highway 56, Pauline, died Friday, April 4, 2003, in Union. A native of Union County, he was a son of the late Anna Elizabeth Mitchell Chambers and James Norman Chambers Sr., and was the widower of the late Janet Fatum Chambers. He was first married to the late Shirley Clendenin. He was employed by Spartanburg Stainless Products Inc. for 30 years.
He served in the Army National Guard 118th Infantry for two years, receiving the expert marksmanship medal, and then served four years in the Navy. He attended Spartanburg Technical College and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Holly Chambers Patterson and Pamela Moore, both of Union; Joy Chambers and Melody Wilt, both of Rock Hill; four sons, Mark Chambers of Campobello, David Chambers of Buffalo; Jamie Chambers of Pauline and Timmy Chambers of Union; two-stepdaughters, Marion Pearson of Inman and Gail MIchel of Dumfries, Va.; three step-sons, Jimmy Cothran of Inman, Glen Cothran of Nashville, Tenn., and Darren Cothran of Spartanburg; four sisters, Bunea Inman and Frances Chambers, both of Union, Gwendolyn Fisher and Sylvia Reynolds, both of Buffalo, a brother, Chanbler Chambers of Union; 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family received friends Sunday night at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. A memorial service was held at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel this afternoon at 2 conducted by the Rev. Dr. James L. Jackson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Boulevard, Suite 101, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301, or to Cancer Center of the Carolinas, Spartanburg Office, 11 Doctors Park, Suite 200, Spartanburg, S.C. 29307.
The family was at the home of a daughter, Holly Chambers Patterson, 311 Lakeside Drive. The J.F. Floyd Mortuary had charge of arrangements.
Lt. Everette L. Harris
Lt. Everette Leon Harris, 80, of 226 Harris Circle Extension, husband of Marian Farr Harris, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at 12:45 p. m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Lt. Harris was born in Union on April 24, 1022, a son of the late James Wallace Harris and Nannie Gault Harris. He was a member of the Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of the S.C. Retired Trooper's Association, the Union County Cattleman's Association and a member of the Union County Soil and Water Conservation District. Lt. Harris was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and Spartanburg Methodist College and was a retired state trooper after 36 years service.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Faye Harris of Union; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Lori Harris of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Hope and Annabeth Harris of Lancaster; three sisters, Ada H. Adams, Rachael H. Roark and Dorothy H. Harris, all of Union; and two brothers, Manuel Harris and Curtis Harris, both of Union. Lt. Harris was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers, Lillian H. Wix, Sarah H. Howell, Frank Harris and Douglas Harris.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat and the Rev. Alan West. Burial was in Union Memorial Gardens. Nephews served as active pallbearers. Active and retired S.C. Law Enforcement personnel served as the honorary escort and members of the Carlisle Hart Sunday School Class sat in a group.
The family received friends Saturday night at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to Foster's Chalet United Methodist Church, 392 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, S.C. 29353 or to Spartanburg Methodist College, 1200 Textile Road, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
