Mr. Miller, 63, died Friday, April 27, 2012 at his residence.
born in Dillon, SC, September 30, 1948 he was the son of the late Allen Worth Miller, Sr. and Anna Grace Moody Miller. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran having served in the Vietnam War, and was a member of Dillon Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Miller of Sellers; children, Stephanie (Buster) Long, Eric (Tammy) Miller, Valerie (Benjamin) Lozano, Lee (Beth) McPhatter, Ray (Tina) McPhatter, Jason Miller, Kevin (Melissa) Miller, and Kristina Miller; 26 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Allen, and Marilyn (Bill) Evans; brother, Ken Miller; special friends & family, Felicia Davis, Ray & Jamie Grey, Chip & Alicia Osborne, April Hayes, Dawn Huggins, and Debbie Carter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Monroe (Hazel) Carter, Robert (Jackie) Carter, Johnny (Betty) Carter, Diane McCall, Sallie Carter, and Gene Carter; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his daughter, Vanessa Hernandez; brothers, Dick Miller, and A.W. Miller, Jr.; sisters, Melva Miller, and Mona Skipper; mother-in-law, Geneva Carter, and his brother-in-law, Billy Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Faye Kersey of Sellers; son, Christopher Howard Kersey of Sellers; sisters, Jean (Woodrow) Lane, Joyce Cook, Shirley (Mack) Small all of Latta, Sarah (Willie) Barfield of Bennettsville, Marie (Ed) Lane of Latta; brothers, E.J. Survivors include her husband, Earl Norton of Little Rock; children, Earline (Larry) Grimsley, Bonnie (Dwayne) Bowers, Donald Norton, Danny (Cindy) Norton, Tim (Tammy) Norton, and Ellen Norton, all of Little Rock, and James Earl Norton, Jr. of Florence; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Rowell of Hamer.
Branford Edgar Townsend

Mr. Townsend, 77, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at his residence.
born in Dillon County, April 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Alphonso Edgar Townsend and Christine Stone Townsend. He was a member of Dillon First Baptist Church, and was the Owner of Star Shoe Shop.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Jackson Townsend of Dillon; children, Timmy (Sheila) Townsend, Bunky (Nancy) Townsend, Jason M. Townsend, Debbie (Jerry) Wellington, all of Dillon, and Eddie (Ann) Townsend of Bingham; brothers, Jerry (Jean) Townsend of Jacksonville, NC, and Larry (Emma Jean) Townsend of High Point, NC; sister, Mary Taylor of Stantonburg, NC; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; special friends, James Summerford, Chris Williamson, and Paul Gaddy, all of Dillon.
Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his grandson, Brad Townsend; and his brother, Gilbert Townsend.
Mary Ann Rowell
DILLON - Services for Mary Ann Rowell will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at the St. Louis Catholic Church with burial in Evergreen cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Reception will be held at the church following the graveside service.
Mrs. Rowell, 82, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at McLeod Medical Center in Dillon.
born in Fenton, Missouri, May 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Frank Schulte and Bernice Stone Schulte. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Bernice McGaha of Dillon; son, Rocky Rowell of Lancaster, SC; grandchildren, Mary Ann McGaha, Marissa McGaha, Grant Rowell, and Claire Rowell; brother, Jack Schulte of Michigan; and sister, Dottie Alcott of Oklahoma.

Janet Tyndall White

Mrs. White, 78, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at Anderson Oaks Assisted Living in Conway.
born in Dillon County, May 2, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Tyndall and Janie Brumble Tyndall. She was raised in the Temperance Hill Community, and was a lifelong resident of Latta. She was a member of Latta Baptist Church, and was the widow of the late Joe Edward White.
Survivors include her brother, Cecil Tyndall of Latta; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. White was preceded in death by her brother, Carlyle Tyndall; and her sisters, Kathleen T. Lane and Thelma T. McKenzie.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Shirley Jean Carter

Mrs. Carter, 68, died Saturday at her residence.

Survivors include her husband, Marion Carter of Dillon; daughter, Peggy Garner of Dillon; grand daughter, Shanna McDaniel of Dillon; sisters, Ida Mae Caulder of Dillon and Lois (Bill) Smith of Asheboro, N.C.; brothers, Raymond (Brenda) Lane of Dillon and Grady (Hazel) Lane of Fair Bluff, N.C.; special sister in law, Gail (Skip) Broadway of Arkansas; She was preceded in death by her brothers, Armond Lane and Major Lane.
Helen Louise Hamilton
DILLON - Services for Helen Louise Hamilton will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Latta Southern Methodist Church with burial in Greenlawn cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hamilton, 95, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Carolina Hospital System Marion.
born in Dillon County, August 17, 1916, she was the daughter of the late J.W. Herring and Bonnie McDonald Herring. She was a member of Latta Southern Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was the widow of the late Alva David Hamilton.
Survivors include her daughter, Pat (Ronny) Bullock of Mullins; sons, Terry (Gloria) Hamilton of Dillon, and J.D. (Fonda) Hamilton of Florence; brother, Neil Herring of Dillon; sister-in-law, Mary Lois Herring of Mullins; grandchildren, Rhonda (Fred) Sanders, and Nicki (Kevin) McDaniels, both of Nichols, SC, Angie (Bob) Lawrence of Hartsville, Tara (Jon) Black of Lexington, Melanie (Chris) Dove of Dillon, Ricky (Dawn) Hamilton of Florence, Chris (Charlene) Hamilton of Dillon, and Brant Hamilton of Latta; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her sister, Aline Hardy; brothers, J.W. Herring, Jr. and Tom Herring.
A heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Mullins Nursing Center for their caring love and support over the past four years, and to the hospital staff at Carolina Hospital System Marion during her hospital stay.

Charles David "Charlie" Long
Charles David Long “Charlie, ” 84 of Simpsonville, SC, surrounded by his family, and his faithful pet, Kirby left his earthly home to begin eternity in heaven with those who have gone before him. After many years of suffering and pain, his valiant battle with heart disease and rheumatoid arthritis ended peacefully on May 9, 2012. He was born in Florence County, son of the late David Lee Long and Hattie Hamilton Long. Charlie was one of nine children, six of whom had predeceased him - Ishmael, Paul, Beaufort, Cecil, Ted and Virginia. Charlie was quite the sportsman, having helped the Latta Red Raiders win State Championship in baseball, football and basketball. For a short while he played professional baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He and his younger son spent many hours watching football games and playing golf. Charlie appreciated and enjoyed music. Singing bass with a quartet and playing guitar and piano. His oldest son, Russ became a concert pianist and Charlie spent many hours listening to him practice and attending his performances. He attended Columbia Business College and was bookkeeper with Latta Ford Company. After 25 years as a mail carrier for USPS, he worked with the South Carolina Highway Department building bridges. He served during the Korean conflict when his Dillon National Guard unit was mobilized. Charlie later joined the US Navy, aboard the heavy cruiser, USS Newport News out of Norfolk, Virginia, serving in the Mediterranean. He is survived by his wife Jean, his son Russ, his son Roger (Anne) and two beautiful grandchildren, Lizzie and “Little” Charlie, and many nieces and nephews, whom he delighted in kidding with; brother, Biven (Joyce) Long of Bingham; sister, Elgireen Bethea of Latta. Visitation will held Saturday evening 6 pm - 8 pm at Cooper Funeral Home in Dillon, SC. The service celebrating his life will be held at 4 pm Sunday afternoon at Ebenezer Southern Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Philip Fulmer officiating. The significance of the hour is because the marriage to his wife Jean on March 19, 1961 began at that time. He wanted to end there. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Long, Chris Long, Jason Meggs, Foster Bethea, Mike Arnette and Trey Cook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060 or the First Baptist Church, PO Box 2110 Spartanburg. SC 29304 (the church he faithfully attended each Sunday by watching the service on television) .
James "Brownie" Edwin Brown

Mr. Brown, 89, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at McLeod Medical Center in Dillon.
born in Decatur, Tennessee May 19, 1923, he was the son of the late Warren Brown and Katie Patterson Brown. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dillon, was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, retired from Burlington after 35 years of service, was a Mason, and member of Mackey Lodge #77 where he earned his 40 year Pin, and was a Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star for 20 years. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves Fan.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mildred H. Brown of Dillon; daughters, Sharon B. (Ernie) Shankle of Dillon, and Patsy B. (Mark) Burris of Anderson, SC; sister, Lucille Burnette of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Herbert Brown of Fort Walton Beach, FL; grandchildren, James Michael Hulon of Charleston, Cory Burris, and Ivey Burris, both of Anderson, SC.
