FLORENCE -- Clara Jones McCall, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at Mount Hope cemetery. Burial will follow directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
Mrs. McCall was born in Eastover, a daughter of the late William Thompson and Laura Jennings Jones. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, she went on to teach for the Florence District School system until retirement. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Andrew McCall, Sr.; son, James Andrew McCall, Jr.; and daughter, Mary Ann Ryan.
Surviving are a son, William S. McCall of Florence, four granddaughters and three grandsons.
Memorials may be made to Effingham Presbyterian Church, 526 E. Effingham Highway, Effingham, SC 29541.
Milda Lanning Langley
JOHNSONVILLE -- Milda Lanning Langley, wife of Randolph Langley, returned to her God on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002.
Mrs. Langley was born the youngest child of Minnie Gertrude Estes Lanning and David Lorenzo Lanning.
A lifetime resident of Johnsonville, Milda was Salutatorian of the 1940 class of Johnsonville High School. A person of great energy, Milda spent a lifetime in the pursuit of the health and happiness of her family, church and community. During the early years of her marriage, she was an indefatigable companion of Randolph as they struggled to operate a farm and rear six children, Donald (Queen) and Neron of Johnsonville, Heyward (Willie Von) Langley of Florence, Rachel (Jim) Harshaw of Atlanta, Linda (Charles) Cox of Germantown, Md., and Vivian Johnson of Hartsville.
Later she spent several years employed by Wellman, Ind. In 1966, she and Randolph established and operated the Johnsonville egg farm for a number of years. In the mid-seventies, she sought training in upholstery and operated "Langley Upholstery" for a number of years before retiring and passing the business on to a grandson.
He husband, her six children, her 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a brother, Francis E. Lanning of Hopewell, Va., survive her.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 in First Baptist Church of Johnsonville.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway.
Curley Allen Sr.
TIMMONSVILLE -- Funeral service for Mr. Curley Allen Sr. will be noon Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 in John Wesley United Methodist Church in Lamar. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Bacote-Eaddy Funeral Home of Timmonsville.
Mr. Allen died Monday, Jan. 21.
He was born in Darlington County a son of the late Ed and Rosa Dubose Allen. He attended the public schools of Florence County and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Riven Rock Masonic Lodge No. 60.
He was first married
to the late Mrs. Rosa Lee Fredrick Allen and to this union two children were born. He later married
Mrs. Eleanor Timmons Allen and to this union eight children were born. A son, Curley Allen Jr., preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eleanor T. Allen; six sons, Foster (Madge) Allen of Baltimore, Clarence (Shirley) of Raleigh, James (Nancy) Allen of Lamar, Francis (Bessie) Allen of Timmonsville, Henry (Patricia) Allen of Lamar and William Frank Allen of Timmonsville; four daughters, Pecola Harvey of New Jersey, Annie A. McCoy and Wilhelmina (Wilbur) McClam, both of Baltimore, and Edell Allen Johnson of Timmonsville; a daughter-in-law, Julia Allen of Columbia; two brothers, Clayton (Annie Louise) Allen and Joseph (Mary Helen) Allen, both of Timmonsville; a sister, Margaret Allen of Timmonsville; 32 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Wake service with Masonic rites will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 825 Cartersville Highway, Timmonsville.
Rev. Harry McGill Sr.
DILLON -- Funeral service for the Rev. Harry McGill Sr. will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at Berea Association Center, Highway 38, Bennettsville. Internet will follow in Pine Hill Church cemetery. Rev. McGill was born Nov. 16, 1928 in Dillon County and departed this life Monday, Jan. 21 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, after an illness.
He is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Clara Mae Morgan McGill; five daughters, Cornell McGill of the home, Lydia Benjamin and Elgerene McGill, both of Dillon, Betty Brock of Whiteville, N.C., and Annie Marie Hemingway of Roland, N.C.; five sons, Terry McGill of the home, Rev. Harry McGill Jr., Robert and Kenneth McGill, all of Lake View, and John McGill of Dillon; five brothers, Warren McGill of Bingham, Andrew McGill of Baltimore, Jimmy and Marvin McGill, both of Washington, D.C., and Buck McBride of New Jersey; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jack Cameron
LAKE CITY -- Funeral services for Mr. Jack Cameron of New York City and formerly of Lake City will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 from Bethel A.M.E. Church on Camerontown Road, Lake City with the pastor, the Rev. Eric Fladger, officiating and burial in Cameron cemetery, directed by Green's Funeral Home of Lake City.
The family is receiving friends at the residence of Mr. Jack Cameron on Bethea Road, Camerontown Community, Lake City.
Mr. Cameron died Saturday, Jan. 19. He was born in Camertown, a son of the late Authur and Sinclair Cameron. He was married
to the late Jennie Mae Cameron.
Surviving are a son, Cephus Barron of Florida; two daughters, Dorothy C. Lory and Shirley V. Cameron, both of New York City; three brothers, Mason Cameron, D.L. Cameron and Phillip Cameron, all of Florida; three sisters, Martha Cameron, Laura Cameron and Ethelenea Myers, all of Lake City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Sara Layton Griggs
HARTSVILLE --Funeral services for Sara Layton Griggs, 78, who died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 from the Antioch Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Swilley will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Griggs was born in Spartanburg County a daughter of the late Frank B. and Alene Taylor Layton. She taught for 30 years in the Darlington County public schools and St. David's Academy in Society Hill. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Ms. Jimmelyn Griggs of York; two sisters, Carol Spracklen and Dorothy King, both of Camarillo, Calif.; and a brother, C. H. Layton of Union. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harrell Griggs.
Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1121 Bethlehem Road, Hartsville, S.C. 29550.
Ethel Jowers
LAKE CITY -- Miss Ethel Jowers, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in the Lake City hospital after an illness.
Miss Jowers was born in Lake City, a daughter of the late William Isiah and Leila Evans Jowers. She was a member of Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include a sister, Edith J. DuBose of Lake City, and a brother, J.W. Jowers of Johnsonville.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Bertha Mae Jowers, Beulah J. Evans, Mae Bell J. Purvis and Viola Jowers; and two brothers, William Edward Jowers and Thomas Earl Jowers.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 in the Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the Cook cemetery.
The family will have visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge.
Mr. Willie "Bill" Alexander
FLORENCE -- Funeral service for Mr. Willie "Bill" Alexander will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 in Monumental Baptist Church. Burial will follow in North View cemetery directed by Backus Funeral Home.
Mr. Alexander was born in Florence the son of the late Townsend and Mary James Alexander, where he also received his formal education. He was a home maker.
Surviving are a sister, Glayds Smoot of Richmond, Va.; a devoted caregiver/niece, Miss Linda Mumford of the home; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Alexander of Florence; a devoted nephew, Richard Alexander of Florence; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive members and friends at the home.
Lila Marie Windham Pace
FLORENCE -- Lila Marie Windham Pace, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pace was born in Florence, a daughter of the late James Lawrence and Lila Boykin Windham. She was the widow of Leon B. Pace, Sr., who died in 1982. Mrs. Pace was a member of Peace Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Leon B. Pace Jr. of Fort Sumner, N.M., Gary Lawrence Pace of Olanta, and Furman E. Pace of Cheraw; two brothers, Henry E. Windham of Augusta, Minn., and Harold T. Windham of Darlington; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Thelma Denise Campbell
FLORENCE -- Thelma Denise McGee Campbell, 32, of 684 E. Black Creek Road, Florence died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 in a Charleston hospital after an illness.
Mrs. Campbell was born in Florence, a daughter of James Ervin McGee and the late Thelma Louise Elliott McGee. She was employed by Rodeway Inn of Florence.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry Ray Campbell of Florence; her father of Marion; two children, Melinda Sue McGee and David Paul McGee, both of the home; two sisters, Beth Caulder of Patrick and Angie Gandy of Darlington; a brother, Jimbo McGee of North Myrtle Beach; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Hollings Cancer Clinic, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27 in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Chatham Hill Memorial Park in Cheraw.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Huger 'Junior' Turner Jr.
AYNOR -- Mr. Huger "Junior" Turner Jr., 73, husband of Sarah Lee Dimery Turner, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 at Marion County Medical Center after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27 at Pisgah United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Harper and the Rev. Tom Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel cemetery directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Turner was born April 6, 1928 in Marion County, a son of the late Huger Turner Sr. and the late Rebecca Sellers Turner. Mr. Turner had retired from the S.C. Forestry Commission as a truck driver after 29 years of service. He also was a retired farmer. Mr. Turner attended Pisgah United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Turner in addition to his wife of the home are a brother, Bobby Dimery of Florence, and sisters, Thelma Rosser of Florence and Molly Jones of Mullins.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29577 or to Pisgah United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3655 Dog Bluff Road, Galivants Ferry, S.C. 29544.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Billy Lee Ham Sr.
FLORENCE -- Billy Lee Ham Sr., 61, of 205 Graham St., Florence, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Ham was born in Ruffin, a son of the late Walter Lee Ham and the late Viola Lee Ham Smyly. He was a member of Lake City Masonic Lodge No. 193 and a member of Lake City First Baptist Church. He was a former employee of the Florence County Detention Center and was employed by the Bethea Baptist Home.
Surviving are three sons, Billy Lee Ham Jr. and Jody Dustin Ham, both of Florence, and Brent Alan (Angelin) Ham of Jamestown, N.C.; two grandchildren, Brendan Myers Ham and Benjamin Brewer Ham, both of Jamestown, N.C.; and three sisters, Ruth Fletcher of Beaufort, Lola Walker of Columbia and Barbara Kleager of McAlester, Okla.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28 in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Florence National cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27 at the funeral home.
