LAMAR -- Jane Pate Featherstun, 76, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, in a Garden City nursing home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28 in Lamar United Methodist Church with interment following in Lamar cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Featherstun was born in Lamar, daughter of the late Efford H. and Maida Bullington Pate. She was married
to the late Ray B. Featherstun. She was a graduate of Lamar High School, Coker College and George Peabody College where she received her masters degree in Library Science. She was employed in the public school system of Lee County. Mrs. Featherstun was Methodist in faith.
Surviving is a daughter, Marcy (Don) Bindner of Surfside Beach.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Lamar.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Curtis James Sr.
DARLINGTON -- Funeral services for Mr. Curtis James Sr. will be 4 p.m. today at New Providence United Methodist Church in Darlington with the Rev. Roberta C. Josey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by Jordan Funeral Home of Darlington.
Survivors include four devoted children, Curtis (Daisy) James Jr., Edith (Howard) King, Rosa Lee (Robert) Roberson and Jackie (Leola) James; a foster daughter, Ms. Francena James; 12 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Levern James; and a host of other relatives.
Joseph Edwards Green
WILSON, N.C. -- Joseph Edwards Green, 80, died Saturday, May 25, 2002. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Cedarwood of Weldon, with the Rev. Blair Both officiating.
Mr. Green was born Oct. 12, 1921.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Lee Wright Green; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Marion Swink of Effingham; granddaughters, Elizabeth Stewart Swink, Frances Green Swink and Marion Gray Swink, all of Effingham.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Edwards Green Jr.; four sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be at the home, 612 Monticello Drive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wilson County Home Health, 1801 Glendale Dr., Wilson, NC 27893 or WilMed Hospice, 1705 S. Tarboro St., Wilson, NC 27893.
Annie Binn Livingston
TIMMONSVILLE -- Memorial service for Mrs. Annie Binn Livingston will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Bacote-Eaddy Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Livingston died Wednesday, May 23, as result of a car accident in Florence.
She was born in Lee County a daughter of the late Willie D. Joe and Roxie Joe Moses. Annie left South Carolina at a very early age and lived in New York for many years, she later moved to Cleveland, Ohio and lived three until Dec. of 2000 when she returned to live in South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Marion Joe of Seattle, Wash.; a son Burton Binn of Roosevelt, N.Y.; three sisters, Oneater (James) Patterson and Ethel Henry of New York and Elouise Bailey of Lamar; a brother Herman (Annette) Moses of Lamar; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Lamar Public Library.
Coley B. Gibson
GREENVILLE -- Coley Bell Gibson, a long time resident of Darlington, died Sunday in a Greenville nursing home following a year of declining health.
born Oct. 31, 1912, in Camden, Mr. Gibson was raised in Kershaw, the son of the late Frank V. and Lula B. Gibson. He was the widower of Lillie Mae Ghent Gibson.
The Gibsons married
in Kershaw on Nov. 10, 1934, and moved to Darlington in 1940. Mr. Gibson retired from full time work in 1975 from the Hartsville Mill, having spent most of his life in textile work. From 1976 to 1986, he was employed part-time with Advanced Security at Nytronics Inc. in Darlington.
At the time of his death, Mr. Gibson was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington. During his years as a Darlington resident, he had also been a member of Calvary Baptist and Southside Free Will Baptist Churches, where he served in various capacities including deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and church treasurer.
Mr. Gibson is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa G. and David R. Heitz of Greenville; a granddaughter, Rachel Grace Heitz of Greenville; a brother-in-law, Broadus Ghent of Lancaster; three nieces, Mary G. McCaskill and Jean G. Benedict, both of Columbia, and Margie W. Lowery of Forest Hills, N.Y.; and loyal friends and caregivers, Mr. and Mrs. Tex Willard and Mrs. Althea Roberts, all of Darlington, and Mrs. Juanita James of Florence. He was predeceased by a son, Franklin Gibson and a granddaughter, Courtney Grace Heitz.
Funeral services will be 11 am. Wednesday in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home in Darlington. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Bethany Christian Services, 620 E. Washington St., Greenville, S.C. 29601.
Richard McBride 'Mack' Nettles Sr.
LAKE CITY -- Mr. Richard McBride "Mack" Nettles Sr., 66, died Monday, June 3, 2002, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Nettles was born in Lake City, a son of the late Richard W. and Letha Poston Nettles.
He was a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy, a retired Captain of the Charleston Naval Weapons Station Fire Department, and a retired engineer of the Lake City Fire Department. He was a volunteer Lieutenant with the Lake City Fire Department and a volunteer Captain of the former Lake City Rural Fire Department. He was a Baptist and former member of the S. C. National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Poston Nettles of Lake City; three sons, Garry (Karen) McCutcheon of Surfside Beach, Richard M. (Tammy) Nettles, Jr. of Lamar and David (Lisa) Malone of Lake City; one daughter, Cindy (Charlie) Foster of Pensacola, Florida; 12 grandchildren, Kerri, Kirby, Zachery, Tosha, Micheal, Whitney, Lauren, Kaitlin, Heather, Jennifer, Amy and Emily and two great-grandchildren, Allison and Autumn.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to: McLeod Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 East Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506.
The family will have visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Lucy Brown Johnson
DARLINGTON -- Funeral service for Mrs. Lucy Brown Johnson of 104 Virgil Wells Circle, Darlington will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 29 in New Ebenezer Baptist Church, Florence. Rev. Norman Gamble, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.
Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, May 23 in a Hartsville hospital after an illness. She was born in Lee County a daughter of the late Rev. William and Mamie Rogers Brown. She was the widow of Leo Johnson Sr.
She was educated in the Lee County public schools. At an early age, she joined Sandy Grove Methodist Church serving on the Usher Board. After moving to New York City she joined Bridge Street A.W.M.E. Church in Brooklyn. After retiring from N.Y. University in 1998 and living more than 45 year in New York City she returned to South Carolina and made her home in Darlington.
Survivors include six children, Mamie (Raymond) Adams of Spring Fields Garden, N.Y., Charles (Stephanie) Johnson of Staten Island, N.Y., Leo (Sheila) Johnson Jr. of Hempstead, N.Y., Barbara (John) Blake of Palm Coast, Fla., Fred (Dian) Johnson of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Elaine (John deceased) Everett of Queens, N.Y.; a sister, Willette (Henry) Harris of Florence; 11 grandchildren; three of which she reared as her own, Keith, Krystal and Karen; four great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; three special cousins, Mary "Sister" Mercy of Philadelphia, Pa., Eunice Burris of Hartsville and Mattie Adams of Brooklyn, N.Y.; host of cousins.
The family is receiving friends at the residence.
Octavia Courtney Pigate
TIMMONSVILLE -- Octavia Courtney Pigate, 77, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002 in a Florence hospital. She was born in Florence County a daughter of the late Ernest Lee and Lincey Louise Lane Courtney. She was a member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church and the Ruby Lee Severance Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her husband, J. Ashton Pigate; a son, Ray D. (Muriel) Pigate of Timmonsville; a sister, Betty (Ernie) Cornett of Florence; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Larry M. Pigate.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bethany Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery directed by Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, 4071 Creek Road, Timmonsville, SC 29161.
Brian Arnette Bazen
SCRANTON -- Brian Arnette Bazen, 26, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, from injuries he received in an automobile accident.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, in Gilead Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the High Hill Free Will Baptist Church cemetery.

Carroll Gardner Coker
NORTH CHARLESTON -- A loving husband, father and adoring grandfather, Carroll G. Coker, 76, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002 in a Charleston hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31 at Friendship Baptist Church of North Charleston with burial at 3:30 p.m. in St. John's United Methodist Church cemetery of Lake City, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home of North Charleston.
born in Florence County, he was a son of the late William D. Coker and Letha Allen Coker. Mr. Coker was retired Charleston branch manager of Liberty Life Insurance Co. for 33 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of North Charleston.
Surviving are his wife Lillie F. Coker of North Charleston; two sons, Dr. Mark (Terri) Coker of Charleston and Russell (Sandra) Coker of Lake City; a brother, Garris Coker of North Charleston; and five grandchildren, Jason Coker, Phillip Coker, Marsha Coker, Edward Coker and Amanda Coker.
Memorials may be made to St. John United Methodist Church Rebuilding Fund.
Lillie Bell Moore Wilson
FLORENCE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Bell Moore Wilson will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002 in New Providence United Methodist Church with Reverend Roberta C. Josey officiating.
Burial will follow in the Church cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. of Darlington.
Mrs. Wilson died Saturday, June 1, 2002 in a Florence nursing home after an illness. She was born in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late Isaiah and Camillia Mitchell Moore. She was the widow of Howard Wilson.
She was educated in the Clarendon County public schools. After marriage and moving into the Florence/Darlington area, she joined New Providence United Methodist Church. She was employed at Florence Steam Laundry for 25 years until she retired.
Survivors include four loving children: a daughter, Mrs. Carrie Lee Sparks of Florence; three sons, Eddie James (Bessie) Wilson; Carell Levi (Shirley) Wilson and Johnny Howard (Phyllis) Wilson, all of Hollywood, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah McKelley of Whitesville, N.C.; Mrs. Margaret Greene of Pinewood and Mrs. Mary Benjamin of Hollywood, Fla.; one brother, Levi Moore of Brunswick, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and an aunt, Mrs. Helen Mitchell of Sumter.
The family is receiving friends at the home of a granddaughter, Veronica Murphy of 306 E. Carolyn Ave., Florence.
Freddie Lee McDougal
AIKEN -- Funeral services for Mr. Freddie Lee McDougal, 59, of 2045 McDougal Road, Aiken, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mark Miller and the Rev. Richard McDuffie will officiate. Interment will follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens in Aiken.
Mr. McDougal died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at his residence.
Survivors include his three children, Tammy Fields, Lori McDougal, and Mark McDougal all of Aiken. Other survivors include a son-in-law, Van Fields; six grandchildren, Kenny Clark, Jamie Armstrong, Jimmy Armstrong, and Megan McCabe; five sisters, Lois Gainey, Scranton; Leona Tomlinson, Florence, Nell Knotts, Florence, Francis Taylor, Roanoke, Va., Sandra Lee, Florence and a brother, W. Jack McDougal, Aiken.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph Hospice, 681 Silver Bluff Road, Aiken SC 29803. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday evening at Shellhouse Funeral Home.

Pauline H. Wood
ST. MATTHEWS -- Mrs. Pauline H. Wood, 69, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at the Baptist Hospital of Columbia after an illness.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 at the Hayestown cemetery, Lake View. Directed by Cook Funeral of Lake View.
Mrs. Wood was born in Dillon County, the daughter of the late Fulton L. and Leona Hayes.
Surviving are her husband, Ralph Wood of the home; four sons, Kenneth W. Prevatte of St. Matthews, Ronnie D. Prevatte of Ehrhardt, Sammuel L. Prevatte of Star City, Ark., and David Wood of Maine; one daughter, Mrs. Brenda Shafer of Myrtle Beach; one brother Mr. Harmon Hayes; one sister, Mrs. Slyvia Lee Hayes both of Lake View; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
