FLORENCE -- Services for Mrs. Frances Wilkes Griffin, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at Whitner-Evans Funeral Home, Bennettsville, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Griffin died Friday, May 31. born in Dillon County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Lewis and Annie Hargrove Wilkes. She was a homemaker and a member of Tans Bay Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, William H. "Bud" Griffin of Florence; sons, William H. "Billy" Lockamy (Teresa) of Bennettsville and William H. Griffin III of Florence; a daughter, Miss Kimberly Michelle Lockamy of Society Hill; brothers, Robert L. Wilkes of Sanford, N.C., James W. Wilkes of Blenheim, Jimmy R. Wilkes of Sanford and Wayne L. Wilkes of Miami; sisters, Imojean Eccles of Buena Vista, Calif., and Linda Diane Womack of Broadway, N.C.; grandchildren, William H. Lockamy III, Joshua Nicholas Lockamy, and James Daniel Driggers; and great-grandchildren, Justin and Ethan Grooms. She was predeceased by a sister, Betty Jean Clark.
Rudolph R. Vause
TIMMONSVILLE -- Rudolph R. Vause, 82, died Monday, April 22, 2002 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Vause was born in Florence County, a son of the late Rube Mack and Mary Jane Locklair Vause. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army.
Mr. Vause was a retired farmer and manager of Growers Tobacco Warehouse. He was a member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee for over 30 years and was a member of the Wilbur Hicks Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Carolyn Miles Vause of the home; two daughters, Dean V. (Larry) Harris and Mona Gay V. (Ronnie) Harris, both of Florence; two sons, Crafton R. (Donna) Vause of Bethune and Gerald D. (Karen) Vause of Darlington; three sisters, Alice Lee, Mary Lee Cole and Willie Mae Goff, all of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Glenn Vause, Chad Harris, Ginger Mangum, Stacey Harris, Monica Woodberry, Christina Harris and Ron Harris; and eight great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Free Will Baptist, 4071 Creek Road, Timmonsville.
Christopher Donell Reid
TIMMONSVILLE -- Funeral service for Mr. Christopher Donell Reid will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002 in New Providence United Methodist Church in Darlington. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Bacote-Eaddy Funeral Home of Timmonsville.
Mr. Reid, 26, died Sunday, April 14 in Columbia.
Christopher was born in Greenville a son of Ceola Scipio Broadman and George Frinks. He graduated from the Southside High School in Greenville with a diploma in International Studies. He furthered his education at the University of Louisiana, Southern Illinois University and the University of South Carolina. His field of study was public relations and communications. He attended New Providence United Methodist Church and the Redemption Out Reach Church in Greenville. He was affiliated with Tuscon Masonic Lodge No. 21 in Greenville. He was a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol which included pilot lessons. In high school he was a member of the debate team and was a local state and national winner. He was a national qualifier in policy debate.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ceola Scipio Broadman of Timmonsville; his father, George Frinks; his stepfather, Benjamin Reid; a stepbrother, Karsten Frinks; his grandparents, Willie and Elease Scipio; three aunts, Carolyn Miller, Sharon Frinks and Eileen (Earl) Rogers; a great-aunt, Gracesena Scipio; an uncle, Foster (Elizabeth) Scipio; cousins, Joshua Scipio and Zia Scipio; his godmother, Elizabeth Albers; adoptive brothers, Craig Albers, Darren Albers and Jason Albers; a special friend, Provee Townsend; other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Jannie Mae Anderson
LAMAR -- Funeral services for Mrs. Jannie Mae Anderson will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at St. John United Methodist Church, Oates, with the Rev. Fredrick Yebuah officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home Inc., of Darlington.
Mrs. Anderson died Saturday, April 6 in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Dock and Eliza Jane Nichols Byrd. She was the widow of Jessie Anderson.
She was educated in the Darlington County public schools and was a lifelong member of St. John United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Donnie Anderson of the home; two daughters, Jeannette (Edward) Ward and Jessie Mae (Jimmy) Johnson, both of Hartsville; nine grandchildren, two of which she reared as her own, Cheryl Anderson and Lakesha Anderson; six great grandchildren; two aunts, Mrs. Eva Nicholas and Mrs. Mabel McCullough, both of Lamar; a sister-in-law, Etha Jane "Duckie" Byrd of Darlington; a daughter-in-law; nieces and nephews.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 2292 Jefford Road, Lamar.
Phiphine 'Phi' Thomas
LAMAR -- Mrs. Phiphine "Phi" Thomas of 2403 Una Road died Saturday, April 6, 2002 at her residence after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles K. Wilson officiating. Burial will take place in the Sandy Bluff United Methodist Church cemetery with professional services directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The family will receive visitations at the residence.
Mrs. Thomas was born in the farming community of Lee County, near Bishopville. She was one of five children born to the late Clarence and Mary Jane Reed. She was educated in the Lee County public schools. She was married
to Eddie Thomas, and together, they raised six children. Mrs. Thomas worshiped at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Lee County and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie Thomas; four daughters, Sandra (Ricky) Lucas of Lamar, Amanda Adams, Shirley Reed and Bernetha Reed, all of Hartsville; two sons, Ulysses (Columbia) Adams Jr. of Henderson, N.C. and Henry (Mamie) Reed of Bridgeport, Conn.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
Edward M. Anderson
COWARD -- Edward M. Anderson, 74, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness.
Mr. Anderson was born in Coward a son of the late Hovie and Myrtie McAllister Anderson. He retired from Dexter Collins Company as a construction worker.
Survivors include an aunt, Ollie Collins of Coward and several cousins.
Mr. Anderson was predeceased by a brother, Marvin Anderson.
Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002, in the St. Paul United Methodist Church cemetery, Coward.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mrs. Ollie Collins, 432 Mallard Road, Coward, S.C. 29530.
Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge.
James A. Jones
FLORENCE -- James Anderson "Jimmy" Jones, 78, of 2206 S. Vance Drive, Florence, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Jones was born in Florence a son of the late John Anderson and Audell Simpson Jones. He attended the Florence County schools and Union Mill School in North Carolina. He was a former member of the South Carolina National Guard, and a Charter member of the College Park Baptist Church. He was formerly owner and operator of Jones Refrigeration Co. He was instrumental in organizing the Florence Chapter of The Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. He was a Past President of the Delmae Ruritan Club.
He was a member of Past Master of Amity Lodge no. 340 A.F.M., a member of York Rite and Scottish Rites Bodies, a member of Omar Shrine Temple which he served as Potentate in 1999, past member of Omar Shrine Temple Board of Trustees and the Governing Board, member and past director of the South Atlantic Shrine Clown Association. He was honored as a recipient of the Order of the Royal Cross of Constantine.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Singletary Jones of Florence; four sons, James Anthony "Tony" (Cheryl) Jones, John Douglas (Cathy) Jones, Ronald Anderson (Kathy) Jones and Robert Allen Jones all of Florence; a sister, Jacquelyn Jones Love of Pageland; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Sammy) Parker, Pamela Jones, Trey Jones, Jennifer Jones, Kimberly Jones, Kaylea Jones and Stacy Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Samuel Nelson Parker, Anzlee Elaine Parker and Caroline Denise Parker.
Memorials may be made to the Omar Shrine Temple, P.O. Box 21028, Charleston, S.C. 29413 or to the Singletary cemetery Trust Fund, P.O. Box 333, Coward, S.C. 29530.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Singletary cemetery near Coward.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Omar Shrine Temple.
Willard J. Conner
EFFINGHAM -- Willard Jesse Conner, 76, of 2401 Willow Creek Road, Effingham, died early Tuesday morning, March 19, 2002, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Conner was born in Florence County a son of the late Jesse and Lottie Meggs Conner. He was a member of the Gospel Temple and was retired from farming and from the Atlantic Coastline Railroad.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Conner, and by a brother, Damer Conner.
Surviving are his wife, Eugenia Turner Prevatte Conner of Effingham; four sons, Willard "Bubba" (Beverly) Conner Jr. of Florence, John Conner and Bobby (Kelley) Prevatte, both of Effingham and Russell Conner of Greenville; a daughter, Connie (Archie) Hudson of Effingham; two granddaughters, Staci (Jason) Poston of Concord, N.C., and Kristin Hudson of Effingham; three brothers, Edward (Georgia) Conner of Effingham, Heyward (Barbara) Conner and Boyd (Nell) Conner, both of Florence; two sisters, Bessie Mae DeBerry of Surfside Beach and Bernice Dalrymple of Florence; an uncle, Ossie (Elva) Meggs of Florence; and an aunt, Sadie Meggs of Florence.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Turner cemetery.

Walter 'Short Pint' Williams
TIMMONSVILLE -- Graveside services for Mr. Walter "Short Pint" Williams of Warren Street, Timmonsville will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002 at Florence National cemetery. Services are entrusted to Bowman's Funeral Home. Visitation and final viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Bowman's Funeral Home Chapel.
Tammy Darlene Prosser Flowers
FLORENCE -- Mrs. Tammy Darlene Prosser Flowers, 28, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, from injuries she received in an accident.
Mrs. Flowers was born in Florence, a daughter of Hank Prosser and Sandy Turner Prosser. She was a graduate of Hannah Pamplico High School class of 1990 and was employed by Spas & Things of Florence. She attended Christian Assembly Church.
Survivors include her husband, Brian Flowers of Florence; her mother, Sandy T. Prosser of Florence; her father, Hank (Debbie) Prosser of Friendfield; a son, Brandon DeLeon Prosser of Florence; a sister, Jennifer (Benji) Collins of Friendfield; a niece, Janet Prosser of Friendfield; a nephew, Cody Collins of Friendfield; maternal grandparents, Russell and Naomi Brown of Effingham; a special friend, Karen Conners; and many special aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, D.D. and Rudell Prosser, and maternal grandfather, Willcox Turner.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4 in Christian Assembly Church, Florence, with burial in Turner cemetery, Effingham.
The family will have visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Andy and Marie Thomas, 5012 Rhea Lane, Effingham.
Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge.
Rev. Troy Melton Gause
GEORGETOWN -- Rev. Troy Melton Gause, 69, a retired minister with the South Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Kingstree First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial follow in the church cemetery directed by Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Liberty Christian Church in Andrews.
Rev. Gause was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Williamsburg County, a son of Redden O. Gause and Florence Caraway Gause. He pastored Free Mount Pentecostal Holiness Church of Hemingway for 12 years. He was owner and operator of Hwy 52 Barber Shop for 30 years; owner of Gause Brothers Scrap Metal; a farmer; a member of the Kingstree Hunting Club; and a member of Free Mount Pentecostal Holiness Church of Hemingway.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Olive Gause of Georgetown; five sons, Keith Marshall Gause and Stanley O. Gause, both of Andrews, Ernest M. Gause and Troy M. Gause, both of Kingstree, and Raymond M. Gause of Georgetown; three brothers, Edward Gause, Freddie Gause and Albert Gause, all of Kingstree; two sisters, Edyfell Ryan of Kingstree and Modell Reed of Sumter; and seven grandchildren.
John W. Wilson
FLORENCE -- Memorial Services for Mr. John Wesley (J.W.) Wilson will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, at the North Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2820 E. Sammys Lane, Florence, SC. He died February 16 at McLeod Hospital.
Mr. Wilson was born January 13, 1924 in Henderson, NC, the son of the late John Wesley Wilson, Sr. and Bessie Faulkner Wilson.
He was an Electrical Supervisor in the construction of McLeod Regional Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jennie Tanner Wilson; a half sister, Margaret Stallings; a very special cousin, Doris Grissom with whom he was raised and her two children, Brady (Butch) and Diane; also two cousins Alvin and Roger Gupton, as well as other cousins.
Family will receive friends at 220 R. Bar M. Ranch Road, Florence.
