DILLON -- Services for Patty Joyce Moody will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Main Street United Methodist Church with burial in Old Zion Church cemetery. Visitation is 7 until 9 p.m. on Monday in Cooper Funeral home.
Ms. Moody, 67, died Saturday at her residence.
born in Dillon County, Aug. 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Causley Moody and Lee Dale Sellers Moody. She retired as a court reporter for S.C. in 1994, was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she had perfect attendance in Sunday School for many years. She was a prominent civic leader in the City of Dillon and was a dedicated volunteer for the Library. She worked tirelessly after the fire to get the library rebuilt. She was a member of the Marvin Rast Sunday School Class, the Wesleyan/Sarah Glenn Circle, and was treasurer for the United Methodist Women of the Church for many years. She always kept in touch with members of her church who were residents of the Methodist Home.
Survivors include her sister, June Ryan Moody Alexander of Columbia; nephews, Robert Ryan and Heather Alexander of Columbia, Gregory C. and Mary Jane Moody of Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Clifford P. Moody Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; several cousins.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Dora Moody, Myra M. Cave, Rachael M. Mott, and Barbara M. McRae; brother, Clifford P. Moody.
Ethelyn McDaniel Powell
PAMPLICO -- Ethelyn McDaniel Powell, 91, widow of Rev. Hoyt Powell, died Saturday Sept. 29, 2001 in a Florence nursing center after an illness.
Mrs. Powell was born in Florene county, a daughter of the late John L. McDaniel and the late Arbelle Powell McDaniel. She was a homemaker, a member of the New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church and was a graduate of Hannah High School.
Surviving are one sister, Laurel M. Matthews of Charleston, SC; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday in the New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in the Bazen cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church, 4221 Sheminally Road, Pamplico, SC 29583.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM Sunday.
Emma Susan Disher Thomas
KINGSTREE -- Mrs. Emma Susan Disher Thomas, 85, widow of Hollie John Thomas, died Saturday at her residence.
Mrs. Thomas was born in the Hebron community, a daughter of the late Louis and Mary Bradham Disher. She retired after 30 years as an employee of Williamsburg County Memorial County Memorial Hospital. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo Bryant, Everette Disher and Eugene Disher; and sisters, Camilla McKenzie and Mary Jordan.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Powell of Florence and Judy Poplin of Kingstree; two sons, H.L. Thomas of Manning and Francis Thomas of Los Angles, Calif.; brother, Lindbergh Thomas of Sumter; sisters, Ruth Cliff and Teresa Faulk both of Wilmington, N.C.; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Monday in Kingstree Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Morris Smith. Williamsburg Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Georgetown County, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, S.C. 29440.
Eula Lee Graham
DARLINGTON -- Funeral service for Mrs. Eula Lee Graham will be 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. Bobby Miller, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. of Darlington.
Mrs. Graham died Friday, Sept. 28, at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Nathan Gattison after an illness. She was born in Darlington County a daughter of the late Pressley and Eliza Dubose Pugh. She was the widow of Lonnie Graham Sr.
She received her formal education in the Darlington County public schools. At an early age, she was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. After marriage, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church; there she served on the Senior Choir and the Missionary Society.
Survivors include five children, Ernestine (Willie) Dudley, Mary (Nathan) Gattison, Lonnie (Patricia) Graham, Robin (David) Lighty all of Darlington and Diane Graham of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Eliza Mae Moore of Bronx, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Minister Horace (Minnie) Graham of Darlington; three sisters-in-law, Emma Helen (George) Rollins of Mt. Clair, N.J., Patricia Ruth Robertson of Michigan and Mrs. Earlene Graham of Darlington; a special nephew, Presley Gibson of Florence; a special niece, Pastor Annie Lou Williamson of Darlington; a host of nieces and nephews.
The family is receiving friends at the home place, 268 Gandy Siding Road, Dovesville Community, Darlington County.
John M. Mathews
TIMMONSVILLE -- John Meriell Mathews, 52, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, after an illness.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Florence Baptist Temple. Interment will be in Byrd cemetery in Timmonsville. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.
Mr. Mathews was born in McRae, Georgia, the son of Herman N. Mathews and the late Cora Annie Blue Mathews. He was a retired store manager and a member of Florence Baptist Temple.
Surviving are his wife, Vickie Scheffel Mathews of Timmonsville; a son, Jonathan B. (Kristin) Mathews, Kissimmee, Florida; two daughters, Jessica L. and Julie E. Mathews, Timmonsville; a sister, Sue Mathews of Florence; and two grandchildren, Tori and Ashley Mathews.

Roy A. Matthews
GEORGETOWN -- Roy A. Matthews, 57, husband of Betty Lambert Matthews, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001 in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at East Side Freewill Baptist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Carl Lavender and the Rev. Elbert Welch. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
He was born June 3, 1944 in Florence County, the son of Mary McLaughlin Matthews and the late Duncan Matthews.
He was a retired long distance truck driver and attended East Side Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; his mother; a son, Michael Matthews of Olanta; four daughters, Cynthia Smiley of Sumter, Linda Parrott of Columbus, Ga., Brenda Moore of Coward and Debra Matthews of Scranton; a stepdaughter, Peggy Cribb of Hemingway; a sister, Ann Fulton of Scranton; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mae Belle D. Floyd
COWARD - Mrs. Mae Belle DuBose Floyd, 87, widow of Winright Floyd died Sunday, July 1, 2001 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mrs. Floyd was born in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late John Middleton and Aleda Bernice Camelia Coker DuBose. She was a homemaker and member of the Bible Temple.
Survivors include three daughters, Mazine F. Lee of Coward, Iva Lee Parker of Charleston and Shirley F. (Clevie) Parker of Greenville, Tenn.; five sons, Julius L. "Mutt" (Wilma) Floyd of Florence, Boyd J. (Lela Mae) Floyd and David (Louise) Floyd, both of Coward, Murrell (Judy) Floyd of Scranton and John Wright (Kathy) Floyd of Lake City; two step daughters, Opal McCutcheon of Florence and Basil "Peggy" Aiken of Lake Mary, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ann McKnight and a stepson, Garland Floyd.
Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001 in the Bible Temple with burial in the church cemetery.

Annie Laurie Jordan Calder
OLANTA -- Mrs. Annie Laurie Jordan Calder, 86, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001 at a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2 at Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Mack Lynch and Lillie DeFee Lynch. Mrs. Calder was retired from L-Kay Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Calder was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Hugh Jordan and LeGrande Calder; two sons, Averitt Jordan and Jimmy Jordan; and a brother, J.M. Lynch.
Surviving are a son, Myron (Erma) Jordan of Hanahan; three daughters, Jean (Joe) Coker of Florence, Laurita (Don) Smith of Turbeville and Diane (Jack) Smith of Rock Hill; three sisters, Edith White of Coward, Mae Jordan of Olanta and Juanita McFaddin of Kingstree; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a special daughter-in-law, Shirley Jordan; and a special sister-in-law, Lorena Lynch.
Nell K. Anderson
TIMMONSVILLE -- Nell Kirby Anderson, 91, of Timmonsville died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 1, 2001, in a Florence health care facility after an illness.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3 in Sparrow Swamp Baptist Church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Anderson, 3206S. Hill Road, Timmonsville, S.C.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Mississippi, a daughter of the late Walker and Lillie Edwards Kirby. She was a member of Sparrow Swamp Baptist Church, the Sunshine Club, the T.E.L. Sunday School Class and was a former Sunday School teacher. She was a former employee of Pioneer Dress Co. of Sumter and of Avondale of Olanta.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert e. Anderson, who died in 1997.
Surviving are two daughters, Lyra A. Kirby of Mt. Pleasant and Nelda A. Brabham of Orange Park, Fla.; two sons, Billy D. Anderson of Sumter and Herschel K. Anderson of Timmonsville; two sisters, Azalee K. McAlister and Vergie Bergie, both Sumter; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Alford D. 'Al' Elmore Jr.
BISHOPVILLE -- Alford D. "Al" Elmore Jr., 42, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001 at his home.
born in Sumter, he was a son of Alford D. Elmore Sr. and Harriette Nesbitt Watts.
He was a member of Elliott Baptist Church and was the former owner and operator of Race Fans, USA in Florence. He was a graduate of Hudgens Academy and NASCAR Racing School.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Ronnie Watts of Bishopville; his father of Bishopville; paternal grandmother, Catherine B. Elmore of Bishopville; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his dogs, Bear Bear and Rocky.
He was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jim and Hannah Nesbitt, and his paternal grandfather, C. Colin Elmore.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Griggs officiating.
Burial will be in Wells cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Church, Keith Elvis, Paul Moore, Al Smith, Herbert Mozingo and Walter Jackson.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Watts, 1758 Lucknow Road, Bishopville.
