Donna M. Ledford
Former Union resident

ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. Donna Minor Ledford, 46, of 162 Smith Branch Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., wife of Virgil Ledford, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. Mrs. Ledford was a former resident of Union. She was born on Oct. 24, 1957 in Grand Rapids, Mich., daughter of the late Harry J. and Hilda Murphy Minor. Mrs. Ledford was a Baptist.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four sisters and a brother-in-law, Patsy and Burton Bates of Union, Darlene Brown of Pacolet, Jane Wheeler and Tonya Minor, both of White Cloud, Mich., three brothers, Gene Minor of Mt. Sinai, N.Y., Jimmy Huffstickler of Charlotte, N.C., and Ralph Minor of White Cloud, Mich; a special friend, Angela Johnson of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ledford was predeceased by a sister, Nancy M. Mosier. Funeral services were conducted at noon Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Ronnie Beam. Julia M. Rast
Episcopal Home resident

CAMERON Julia Kathleen M. Rast, 97, died Wednesday morning, April 7, 2004, at Still Hopes Episcopal Home in West Columbia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cameron with the Rev. Bob Young officiating. Burial will be in the St. Matthews Lutheran Cemetery, 1628 Old Number Six Highway, Creston.

Mrs. Rast was the daughter of the late Rufus Michael Monts and Kitty Eloise Dean Monts of Prosperity. Born in Parrott, Ga., on Nov. 4, 1906, she spent her childhood years in Statesboro, Ga., where her father was superintendent of schools. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women and taught first grade in Swansea. After her marriage to James Dantzler Rast in 1929, she made her home in Cameron.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James Dantzler Rast Jr. and wife Jessie; Edward Monts Rast and Jeanne, all of Cameron; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Lanning (Dean Rast) Risher of Camden and Mrs. DuBose (Betty Rast) Edmonds of Orangeburg; 12 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives.

Among the survivors are a granddaughter, Kim Fast of Union and great-grandchildren, Shane, Brian and Deanna Fast, all of Union. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church Parish Hall in Cameron. At other times friends may call at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Resurrection/St. Matthews Lutheran Parish, P.O. Box 427, Cameron, S.C. 29030. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg has charge of arrangements.

Bess F. Walden
Retired teacher

FAIRFOREST Bess Faucett Walden, 82, of Fairforest, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Union, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Griffin and Bessie Kelly Faucett and the widow of Andrew Russell Walden. A 1942 graduate of Columbia College, she taught for many years in both Union County and Spartanburg District 6 schools. She was an active member of Fairforest Baptist Church where she served in organizations including Homebound Ministry, Young at Heart, Sunday School, and Yesterday's Children Choir.

Survivors include three sons, Andrew Russell Walden Jr. of Inman, Robert Alonzo Walden II of Spartanburg and Kenneth Augustus Walden of Fairforest, and their families; two daughters, Rebecca Lee Walden Smith of Pauline and Lisa Kelly Walden LaFever of Charlotte, N.C., and their families; a brother, Munroe Faucett of Evanston, Ill; two sisters, Helen Lide of Aiken and Marjorie Patterson of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Andy Walden, Summer Walden, Patrick Smith, Adrienne Smith, Emily Smith, Dawn Shands and Hayley Walden.

She was predeceased by a brother, Jack Faucett. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. James C. Hilton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairforest Baptist Church, P.O. Box 338, Fairforest, S.C. 29336. The family is at the home. Floyd's North Church Street Chapel.

Alice M. Browning
School bus driver

Alice Michelle (Pumpkin) Browning, 34, of 1111 Lakeside Drive, Apt. 28D, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, in St. Francis Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Union County on Aug. 5, 1968, a daughter of Jimmy Dawkins and Elnora Browning. She was a school bus driver. She also was a member of Wyatt's Chapel Baptist Church and a member of the church choir.

Surviving in addition to her parents are two daughters, Shaveair Latrice and Chavez KaLice, both of Union; her grandmother, Essie A. Browning of Union; four brothers, Allen Michael (Anita) Browning, Derrick Jemaine Browning and Markus Browning, all of Columbia; Jimmy Dawkins Jr. of Union; a special and dedicated friend, Bernard Gossett of Union; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Wyatt's Chapel Baptist Church in Buffalo conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jefferson McDowell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday to await the hour of service.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The family is at the home of her grandmother, Essie A. Browning, 308 Cabin St. The Carolina Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Joe W. Kelly
Maintenance worker

CARLISLE Joe William (Diamond) Kelly, 59, husband of Estell Hunter Kelly, of 138 Jeter St. died Friday, April 4, 2003, in Gaffney. Mr. Kelly was born in Union County on July 26, 1943 a son of Mike and Dorothy Kelly Spencer and Dennis Jeter Sr., all of Carlisle. He attended Union County schools and was a maintenance worker. Mr. Kelly was a member of James Chapel Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons, Mark A. Booker of Dayton, Ohio.; Recardo A. Stradford, Joe Dartangan and Jamar William Kelly, all of Chester and Kenneth Kelly of Boston, Mass.; seven daughters, Phyllis and Beverly Kelly, both of Boston, Mass., Missy Sartor of Jersey City, N.J. , Tina Tucker of Carlisle, Tiffany Jeter of Union, Natalis and Wendy Kelly; six brothers, Mike Spencer of Hyattsville, Md. , the Rev. Charles E. Spencer of Dayton, Ohio, Kent and Keith Spencer of Carlisle, Savoy Jeter of Boiling Springs and Dennis Jeter of Temple Hills, Md.; four sisters, Carolyn Hardy and Kathy McConnell, both of Carlisle, Carolyn Simmons of Stubenville, Ohio and Shirley Booker of Clinton; a god-daughter, Benika Tucker of Union; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday at James Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles E. Spencer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be tonight at the home. The family is at the home of his parents, Mike and Dot Spencer, 115 Carlisle St.

The body will be placed in the church at noon to await the hour of service. The Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Lois S. Franklin

Lois Sanders Franklin, 87, formerly of Jonesville, widow of Jimmy (Jim) Lee Franklin, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at 10:10 p.m. in the Westside Nursing Center, Greenville. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mallonee M. Hubbard
Former Girl Scout leader

Mallonee Moorefield Hubbard, 85, of 113 Douglas Heights, widow of Clark Hubbard, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at 8:15 a.m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mrs. Hubbard was born in Hickory Grove, N.C., on Jan. 21, 1919, a daughter of the late Lester and Etta Idol Moorefield. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, the Episcopal Church Women and a former member of the Union Garden Club and a former Girl Scout Leader.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara H. Elliott of the home and Nancy H. Weinert of Oldsmar, Fla.; two sons, Bob Hubbard of Daphne, Fla. and Ed Hubbard of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Bobby Moorefield of Plantation, Fla.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity conducted by Father Edward Meeks. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Rick Weinert, Beck Weinert, Michael Weinert, Kevin Elliott, Dick Dobson and Trent Dyer. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 113 Douglas Heights, Union. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 320 S. Church St., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. James Jeter
Retired custodian James Jeter, 74, of Carlisle, husband of the late Ellen Taylor Jeter, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Born in Carlisle, Oct. 27, 1929, he was a son of the late Jackson and Budell Booker Jeter. He was a retired custodian from Clark Elementary School in Charlottesville. He attended public schools in Union, was an ordained minister and a member of New Covenant Baptist Church, Charlottesville, Va.

Surviving are a brother, Ruben Jeter of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Sallie Spencer of Carlisle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be fromo 2-8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 pm at James Chapel Baptist Church, Carlisle, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Dawkins and the Rev. Thomas Worthy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at noon to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of his sister, 608 Cambridge St., Carlisle. Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Margeret Rebecca Meador
Assembly worker

Margeret Rebecca Meador, 56, of Cheraw, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Chesterfield General Hospital, Chesterfield. Born in Union County Nov. 30, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Jimmie and Sallie Neal Meador of Union and was a member of Mt. Rowell Baptist Church. She attended Union County Schools and was an assembly worker at Chesco Workshop.

Surviving are two sisters, Barbara Ellis and Sallie M. Jones, both of Union. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary L. Sanders. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mr. Rowell Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Sister Ella Gilbert. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Nephews will be pallbearers. Visitation will be today from noon-7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family is at 214 Ravencroft St., Union Union Community Funeral Home

Margaret B. Reeves
Retired secretary

SPARTANBURG Margaret Blakely Reeves, 81, of 425 South Church St., Heritage Court Apartments, formerly of Greenville, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Greenville County and was reared by the late Clinton W. and Myrtle Blakely. She was the daughter of the late Patral Gregory Ollis and the wife of the late Rev. Harold Thomas Reeves. She was a retired secretary, and a member of Buncombe United Methodist Church of Greenville.

Survivors include a son, the Rev. Robert Blakely Reeves and his wife, Melanie, of Clover; a daughter, Lisa Bollinger and her husband, Wayne, of Texas; and three grandchildren, Emily Reeves, Joshua Reeves and Susannah Reeves. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel conducted by the Rev. Richard Lewis and the Rev. Dave Walton. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the Chapel.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kings Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church, 2040 Highway 161, York, S.C. 29745. Floyd's North Church Street Chapel.
