FLORENCE -- Funeral services for Brian Marshell Coleman will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2001 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Effingham. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by Smith's Funeral Home Inc. of Florence.
Brian died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 from injuries received in an accident.
Brian was born July 27, 1973 a son of Claude W. and Earlie Mae Johnson Coleman Jr.
He was educated in the public schools of Florence, a graduate of South Florence High School. Brian was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He was preciously employed by S&W Manufacturing.
Survivors include his parents, Claude W. and Earlie Mae Coleman Jr.; two sisters, Lora Ann (Theodore) McWhite of Florence and Linda (Bernard) Phyform of Effingham; three brothers, Kenny Johnson and Claude W. Coleman III of the home, and Wayne Anthony (Sandra) Coleman of Clarksville, Tenn.; three nieces; three nephews; three great-nieces; seven aunts; four uncles; godparents, Earl and Ettaphine Green of Florence; other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving friends at 6831 Coleman Road, Evergreen Community.
Livia Cora Bone
FLORENCE -- Livia Cora Bone, 94, of 912 Old Wallace Gregg Road, Florence, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bone was born in Andrews, a daughter of the late Buford and Lou Pearice Flowers. She was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and the Scott Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. "Buck" Bone and by a son, James B. "Boss" Bone and by a grandson, David Ward.
Surviving are two sons, J. Clyde (Louise) Bone, and Van R. (Ina Mae) Bone both of Florence; a daughter, Daisy Jeffords of Florence; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Bone of Florence; a sister, Rhoda Poston of Johnsonville; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; and a very special family friend, Louise Nichols of Florence.
She was truly devoted to her children and grandchildren and was a grandma to everyone.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Mary Douglas Washington
TIMMONSVILLE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Douglas Washington will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001 at Lamar Church of God, Lamar, the Rev. Levern Kirkland, pastor. Services will be conducted by Bowman's Funeral Home of Timmonsville.
Ms. Washington entered into eternal rest Monday, Sept. 24 at her home after an extended illness. She was born to the late Bessie and Lourie Douglas on May 21, 1924.
She attended the public schools of Darlington County.
At an early age, she joined John Wesley Church in Lamar.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Willie Washington. To this union, 11 children were born, three of whom preceded her in death: Willie Jr., Etta Peoples and Shirley Robinson.
She leaves to cherish her memories four sons, Cleveland (Wanda) , Larry (Patricia) , James and Bernard Washington of Timmonsville; four daughters, Marlyn (Jeffery) Simon and Lucille (Trent) Rainey of Timmonsville, Clara (Godfrey) Sanders and Bobbie McClain, both of Lamar; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Robert Edward 'Bob' Clemons
FLORENCE -- Robert Edward "Bob" Clemons, 66, of Florence, died early Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, 2001, at his residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 in Mizpah Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Clemons was born in Marion County. He was a member of Mizpah Baptist Church, a member of the Prayer Warriors Sunday School Class and was a former Deacon. He was the retired owner and operator of Carolina Curbers, Inc. of Florence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge DeWitt Clemons and Beulah Collins Clemons Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Jenny Turner Clemons of Florence; a son, Robert E. (Pam) Clemons Jr. of Florence; two daughters, Debra Clemons (Billy) Shuler and Mitzi Clemons (Jimmy) Mozen, both of Florence; a sister, Joyce (John) Odom of Florence; and seven grandchildren, Kelly Clemons, Robbie Clemons, Jacob Shuler, Kelsey Shuler and Leah Mozen, all of Florence, Justin (Jessica) Hill and Ethan (Brandy) Hill, both of Bishopville.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or Mizpah Baptist Church.
Samp Rogers
LAKE VIEW -- Mr. Samp Rogers, 77, died Monday Oct. 15, 2001 at Saint Eugene Medical Center after an illness.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. at the Piney Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Lake cemetery, directed by Cook Funeral Home of Lake View, SC.
Mr. Rogers was born in Dillon County, the son of he late Corrnie and Donnie Lupo Rogers.
Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Mickey R. Allen of Lake View and Ms. Janet Rogers of Lake View; one granddaughter, Mrs. Steve (Kesia) Venters; four great grandchildren, Taylor, Micheala, Grayson and Skylar Venters; one brother, Mr. Doug Rogers of Latta; one sister, Mrs. Coleen Clonch of Lake View and a special friend, Mrs. Fontella Hayes. He was preceded by death his wife Mrs. Hazel Rogers, brothers Thurston Rogers and Nelton Rogers; and a sister Mrs. Marvel Horne.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 16, 2001 at the funeral home.
Theo Elbert Sawyer Jr.
MARION -- Mr. Theo Elbert Sawyer Jr., 69, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in a VA Nursing Home in Columbia after an illness. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 from Richardson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Devotion Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
born in Marion, Mr. Sawyer was a son of the late Theo Elbert Sawyer Sr. and Frances Jean Sawyer. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a retired insurance salesman. He also was an Army veteran.
Survivors are his wife, Cara Bell Sawyer of the home; two sons, Tommy Sawyer of Marion and Karl (Gloria) Sawyer of Marion; a daughter, Angela S. (Bryan) Rogers of Marion; a brother, Larry Sawyer of Lynchburg; a sister, Betty Jean (Sims) Lambert of Little River; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a son, Jack Lee Sawyer, and a brother, Glen Dale Sawyer.
Alfred I. Robinson
TURBEVILLE -- Mr. Alfred I. Robinson, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at his home after an illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8 at Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Evander S. Robinson and Harriet C. Buddin. He was a retired farmer, carpenter and was a member of Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Corine W. Robinson.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas A. Robinson and Douglas Arthur Robinson, both of Turbeville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Nell H. Amerson
LAMAR -- Nell Kate Hendrix Amerson, 73, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001 in a Charleston hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 at Lamar United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Lamar cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.
Mrs. Amerson, wife of Curtis D. Amerson, was born in Darlington County the daughter of the late Edward and Elma Hudson Hendrix. She retired as a Lab Technician for DuPont. Mrs. Amerson was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class and Bessie Jeffords Circle of the church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two daughters, Linda Isgett of Lamar and Effie Amerson of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Curtis D. Amerson Jr. of Lamar; five granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jackie McFarland of Fountain Inn; and three special nieces, Patsy Grooms of Alma, Ga., Frances Holloman of Darlington and Brenda Forkasdi of Lamar.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jonah S. 'Speck' Martin
NICHOLS -- Jonah Sam "Speck" Martin, 61, husband of Marie Bell Martin died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Alford officiating. Burial will follow at Zoan Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Martin was born Aug. 27, 1940 in Horry County, a son of the late Robert and Corine Johnson Martin. Mr. Martin was a retired construction worker.
Surviving Mr. Martin in addition to his wife of the home are a son, Darryl Martin of Nichols; two grandchildren, Darrin Martin and Ashton Martin; a sister, Addie Jane Simmons of Thomasville, N.C.; 12 nieces; and seven nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Kenneth Lanning
CLEWISTON, Fla. -- Kenneth Lanning, 65, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at Lee Memorial Health Systems, Ft. Myers, Fla., after an illness.
Mr. Lanning was born in Florence, a son of the late John Duffy and Lila Parrott Lanning. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth Lanning Jr. of Clewiston, Fla.; a daughter, Donna Murdock of Clewiston, Fla.; a brother, John D. Lanning Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Marjorie L. (Jimmy) McAllister and Beatrice L. Beasley, both of Lake City; and two grandchildren, Brenda Murdock and Donivan Murdock, both of Clewiston, Fla.
Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 in Grace Free Will Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Sidney Alan Godwin
FLORENCE -- Mr. Sidney Alan Godwin, 37, died Sept. 14, 2001 in Florence.
Mr. Alan was born in Florence, a son of Adolph Godwin and the late Pauline Lee Godwin. He was a graduate of Lake City High School and was employed with La-Z-Boy of Florence. He attended the Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his father, Adolph Godwin of Lake City; three brothers, Edwin Godwin of Florence, Ralston Barfield and Mendel Barfield, both of Scranton; one sister, Hope Watkins of Florence; three nephews, Zackery Godwin and Nathaniel Lamb both of Florence and Marcus Clore of North Myrtle Beach; and three nieces, Tonya Hayes, Miranda Barfield and Natalie Barfield all of Scranton. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 in the Matthews Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the Matthews cemetery, Lake City.
The family will have visitation from 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening in the funeral home.

Ruth W. McKenzie
DILLON -- Ruth W. McKenzie, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at a local hospital.
Mrs. McKenzie was born in Brownsville, Jan. 27, 1927, and was a daughter of the late William D. and Hattie Elizabeth Meggs Whittington. She attended Trinity Holiness Church.
She is survived by her husband W.L. McKenzie of the home, son W.L. (Pete) McKenzie of Twin City, Ga.; daughters Miss Patty McKenzie of Dillon, Betty M. (Garrett) Miller of Lake View and Kathy M. (Jerry) Gray of Lake View, brother Leslie Whittington of Latta; sisters Marie W. Allen of Latta and Sarah W. Carter of Columbia; four grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by sisters Virginia Whittington, Eloise W. Bailey and Clara W. Johnson and brother Billy Whittington.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 9, 2001, at Kannaday's Funeral Home in Dillon. Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery in Dillon directed by Kannaday's Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8.
