BISHOPVILLE -- Funeral services for Frank Brown Sr., 68, who died Oct. 6, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at 3 p.m. from the Bible Truth Holiness Church. The Rev. Hazel Mixon will officiate. Burial will be in the Concord Methodist Church cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation were held Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Brown was born in Lee County, a son of the late Elisha Walter Brown Sr. & Lila Bell Tidwell Brown.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Ann Knotts, Bishopville; a son, Frank Brown Jr. of Scranton; daughters Michelle Springs, Pamplico and Mary Williamson, Lake City; brothers Eugene Brown, Bishopville; Jimmy Brown, Florence; sisters Diane Atkinson, Mary Caples, Pauline Werline, Bishopville, and Clarissa Epps, New Zion; 5 grandchildren.
William Raymond Devita
SHALLOTTE, N.C. -- William Raymond Devita of Shallotte, N.C. died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 26, 1920 in Newark, N.J., son of the late Michael and Felecia Devita, and was also preceded in death by two sisters; and four brothers all of New Jersey.
Mr. Devita retired from Tri-State Metallurgical Corporation of Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville, N.C. and Selma, Tenn., where he was the founder and past president. He was also founder and past chairman of the Board of Structural Foam Corporation of Charlotte, N.C.; and founder and past chairman of the Board of Porta Nails Corporation of Wilmington, N.C. Mr. Devita was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Vivian Green DeVita, of Shallotte, N.C.; two sons, Peter Michael DeVita and wife Terry, and William Raymond DeVita II and wife Lisa, all of Wilmington, N.C.; two daughters, Seton DeVita Chamberlin and husband Vance, of Wilmington, N.C. and Kathryn DeVita Wilcox and husband George, of Florence, S.C.; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, George DeVita of Mendham, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.
There will be a reception following the service at the home of Pete and Terry DeVita, 200 Inlet Point Dr., Wilmington.

Elizabeth Mixon Brockington
KINGSTREE -- Elizabeth Mixon Brockington died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 at her residence after an illness.
Mrs. Brockington was born in Sumter a daughter of the late Oscar and Betty Guerry Mixon. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and attended Columbia College, taking business courses and choir. She was a secretary for many years, pianist for Millwood United Methodist Church for many years, a member of Three Rivers Society and a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the Kindergarten class.
Surviving is her husband, John David Brockington of Kingstree.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in the Kingstree United Methodist Church with burial in the Kingstree Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the residence, 310 Singleton Avenue, Kingstree.

Evvie Leona Hunt Graham
DILLON -- Evvie Leona Hunt Graham, 88, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in St. Eugene Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
born in Dillon County, May 28, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Zeb Vance Hunt and Naomi McPhatter Hunt Turner. She was a member of the Dillon Second Baptist Church, and was a textile worker.
She was the widow of the late James Melvin Graham.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Frances Huggins of Charleston, Yvonne Bryan of Waycross, Ga., Eva Jo Cottingham of Dillon, and Polly Miller of North Myrtle Beach; sons, Archie Graham of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. and Larry Graham of Garden City; sisters, Maggie Stevens of Dillon and Anne Mild of Chicago, Ill.; brother, Lonnie Turner of Dillon; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Graham was preceded in death by her son, Marion Graham; and a grandchild, Camelia Graham.
Irene Medlin Brown
MYRTLE BEACH -- Irene Medlin Brown, 91, of Myrtle Beach Manor died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 at the nursing center.
born Jan. 21, 1910 in Spencer, N.C., she was the daughter of the late W.A. and Ida Misenhiemer Medlin. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and formerly of both Bennettsville and Florence. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Newton Brown.
Surviving are daughter, Betty Mason and husband Frank of Murrells Inlet, and two grandchildren, Charles F. Mason of Fairfax, Va., and Carolyn Land and husband Kenneth of Suffolk, Va.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5 at Mt. Hope cemetery in Florence.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
Elizabeth G. McFadden Washington
LAKE CITY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth G. McFadden Washington will be at noon Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 from Mt. Clair Baptist Church on Peachtree Street, Lake City, with the Rev. W.L. Thompson officiating and burial in Rest Lawn cemetery, directed by Green's Funeral Home of Lake City.
Mrs. Washington, 55, died Wednesday, Oct. 3. She was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Golden and Ginell McClam Graham.
She attended the public schools of Florence County and Mt. Clair Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, J.B. Washington, and two daughters, Vanessa (Lacy) Washington and Coretha L. Washington, all of Lake City; two sons, Derrick McFadden of Lake City and Jeffrey (Raynette) McFadden of Lauderhill, Fla.; a sister, Ida M. Graham of Lake City; two brothers, Norvell Graham of Richmond, Va., and Ronnie (Aquilla) Graham of Lake City; seven grandchildren; four stepchildren, Mary Peguese, J.B. (Michelle) Washington Jr., Martin Washington and William Washington, all of Lake City; sisters-in-law; brother-in-law; nieces; nephews; and aunts.
Lawrence 'Larry' Weintraub
FLORENCE -- Lawrence "Larry" Weintraub, 77, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001 at his residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at Beth Israel Congregation Synagogue, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Florence Jewish cemetery.
Mr. Weintraub was born in New York, N.Y., a son of the late Benjamin and Rose Zahl Weintraub. He was a World War II Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army in India and China. A resident of Timmonsville and Florence for 40 years, Mr. Weintraub owned a chain of retail stores, including Larry's Department Store and Florence Discount Store.
Mr. Weintraub was active in the Beth Israel Congregation, serving as former president and instructor in the Sunday School. He also was chairman of the Shirley and Arthur Seigal Education Fund.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Polan Weintraub of Florence; a son, Richard Weintraub of Durham, N.C.; a daughter, Gail Driebe of Atlanta; a brother, Mortimer Weintraub of Long Branch, N.J.; a sister, Adele Rubin of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
Flossie Lee Ard Furches
COLUMBIA -- Funeral service for Mrs. Flossie Lee Ard Furches will be held 3 p.m. today, Oct. 8, 2001, at the graveside in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery, Johnsonville. Conducted by the Rev. John Alexander.

Mrs. Furches died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001. born in Florence County (Hannah Community) , she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Ada Stone Ard. Mrs. Furches moved to Columbia in the early 80's. She was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church and the Lamplighters Sunday School Class. Mrs. Furches was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Johnsonville. Survivors are: Daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Jim Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Terrie Furches; grandchildren, Rick Maturi and Sarah Borek; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Jonathan Smith; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Furches and sons, Lloyd and Michael Furches.
Mona H. Rae
FLORENCE -- Mona Hasselriis Rae, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 at Richard M. Campbell Veteran's Nursing Home in Anderson.
born in Chicago, Mrs. Rae was the daughter of the late Sir Caspar (H.W.) Hasselriis and the late Karen Borch Hasselriis. Mrs. Rae graduated from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and was a music teacher and a church organist. She was a member of Dawsey United Methodist Church in Florence and was a member of the American Legion. Mrs. Rae was also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Surviving are her husband, John Gibson Rae Jr. of Florence; three sons, Professor John Gibson Rae III of Florence, the Rev. Gary Wolfsen Rae of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jeffrey Mark Rae of St. Cloud, Fla.; a sister, Karen Hasselriis of Long Island, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers.
A memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Dawsey United Methodist Church in Florence.
Linda Sanders Hinds
MURRELLS INLET -- Linda Sanders Hinds, 58, of Ponderosa Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Hinds was born June 16, 1943 in Conwayto the late George Sanders and Frances Reichard. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hinds is survived by her husband Paul D. Hinds; two sons, Brian G. Tanguay of Murrells Inlet, John Walsh of Lexington; three daughters, Pamela T. Waters of Beaufort, Mimi M. Tanguay and Eileen M. Walsh both of Cola; two step-children Del Hinds of Myrtle Beach, Allison Reddick of Columbia; six brothers, Jackie Sanders of Florence, Devon Sanders of Goose Creek, David Sanders of Fayettevile, N.C., Kenneth Sanders of Nashua, N.H., Jack Reichard of Atlanta, Ga., Paul Reichard of Warner, N.H.; one sister, Kitty Cabe of Rochester, N.H.; and ten grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, Murrels Inlet, SC 29576.
Services will be private.

HARTSVILLE -- Memorial services for Fred M. Selby Jr., 52, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001 at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Charles McLendon will officiate. Mr. Selby died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001. born in Darlington County he was a son of the late Fred M. and Margaret Moore Selby Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from the SC National Guard.
Surviving are his wife, Sherry Rowe Selby of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Angela Selby of Myrtle Beach; daughter and son-in-law, Karen S. and David Clemson of Hartsville; brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Sandra Whitehead of Anderson; sister and brother-in-law, Libby S. and Charlie Schmitz of Hartsville.

Mr. Carter, 41, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
born in Mullins, August 5, 1960, he was the son of Oscar L. Carter and Marilyn Lockemy Carter. He was a member of East Dillon Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents Mr. and Mrs. Oscar L. Carter of Florence, brother, Brandon "Dooner" Lee Carter of N. Augusta; grandmother, Nettie Lockemy Ivey of Dillon.
