FLORENCE -- Livia Cora Bone, 94, of 912 Old Wallace Gregg Road, Florence, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bone was born in Andrews, a daughter of the late Buford and Lou Pearice Flowers. She was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and the Scott Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. "Buck" Bone; by a son, James B. "Boss" Bone; and by a grandson, David Ward.
Surviving are two sons, J. Clyde (Louise) Bone and Van R. (Ina Mae) Bone, both of Florence; a daughter, Daisy Jeffords of Florence; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Bone of Florence; a sister, Rhoda Poston of Johnsonville; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a very special family friend, Louise Nichols of Florence.
She was truly devoted to her children and grandchildren and was a grandma to everyone.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Ollie Belle Derry Antrum
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Funeral service for Mrs. Ollie Belle Derry Antrum will be 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, in Round-O Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael A. McMillian, Sr., pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. of Darlington.
Mrs. Antrum, 65, was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Harley and Rena Poole Derry. She died on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at her residence in Ithaca, N.Y. after an illness.
She was educated in the Darlington County public schools, graduating from Mayo High School, Class of 1954. At an early age she joined Round-O Baptist Church and after moving to Ithaca, she became a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess.
Survivors include: Her husband of 45 years, Mr. Harold Antrum Jr. of the home; three children, Ms. Melissa Antrum and Harold Antrum III both of Ithaca, N.Y. and Harley Antrum of Arizona; a sister, Mrs. Elnora (Charlie) Gandy of Darlington; three brothers, Heyward (Helen) Derry, Clifton (Mary) Derry both of Darlington and James (Margaret) Blake of Winston-Salem, N.C.; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Theodore Antrum of Groton, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
The family is receiving friends at the home of her sister and brother-in-law of 1344 Mt. Siani Road, Darlington.
Madeline B. Simmonds
FLORENCE -- Madeline B. "Mimi" Simmonds, 103, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001.
born in Charlotte, N.C., she was the daughter of the late George and Henrietta B. Bellinger; wife of the late R.M. Simmonds Sr.; and mother of the late R.M. Simmonds Jr. and the late Madeline B. Barnes.
Survivors include grandchildren and great grandchildren. A private service has been held.
Rev. Bill Howard
FLORENCE -- Rev. William "Bill" Martin Howard, 83, died Sept. 21, 2001 in a Florence hospital. He was born in Timmonsville a son of the late Rufus Fulton Howard Sr. and Olive Truett Howard.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Peniel Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Culberson, 1526 Francis Marion Road, Florence.
Memorials may be made to Crusade for Christ Mission, 514 Schofield St., Florence. 29501.
Rev. Howard was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was ordained at Peniel Baptist Church. He organized Crusade for Christ Mission and had a weekly radio and TV program. He was founder of Five Point Baptist Church; and also helped Rehoboth Baptist Church, and Rose Hill Baptist Church, which later became Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He was involved in getting Glad Tidings Church in Timmonsville established. He worked with the Salvation Army.
Surviving are a son, William Martin (Ilene) Howard Jr., Annadale, Virginia; two daughters, Mary Ruth (Russell) Culberson, Florence, and Judy Bailey, Lexington, N.C.; a stepson, David (Deborah) Exum, Coward; a brother, Charles L. Howard, Florence; 11 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest T. Howard and R.F. Howard Jr. and a sister, Dorothy McLendon.
He was first married
to the late Mildred Ramsey Howard and his second marriage was to the late Lois Deaton Exum Howard.
Layton-Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth W. McKenzie
DILLON -- Ruth W. McKenzie, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at a local hospital.
Mrs. McKenzie was born in Brownsville, Jan. 27, 1927, and was a daughter of the late William D. and Hattie Elizabeth Meggs Whittington. She attended Trinity Holiness Church.
She is survived by her husband W.L. McKenzie of the home, son W.L. (Pete) McKenzie of Twin City, Ga.; daughters Miss Patty McKenzie of Dillon, Betty M. (Garrett) Miller of Lake View and Kathy M. (Jerry) Gray of Lake View, brother Leslie Whittington of Latta; sisters Marie W. Allen of Latta and Sarah W. Carter of Columbia; four grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by sisters Virginia Whittington, Eloise W. Bailey and Clara W. Johnson and brother Billy Whittington.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 9, 2001, at Kannaday's Funeral Home in Dillon. Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery in Dillon directed by Kannaday's Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8.
Lisa W. Purvis
LAKE CITY -- Lisa Weatherford Purvis, 67, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001 at her residence after an illness.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19 in Black Creek cemetery.
Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge.
Percy Donell Cobb
FLORENCE -- Percy Donell Cobb, 67, of 111 S. Wallace Road, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 in Florence National cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Honor will be by Florence Moose Lodge 2566.
Mr. Cobb was born in Caswell County, N.C., a son of Zachariah H. and Beulah Teal Cobb. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Florence Moose Lodge No. 2566. He was retired as superintendent of maintenance for Goodyear, Inc. of Asheboro, N.C., and had been employed by Celetex in Latta.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Adrian Hugh Cobb.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Sue Buchanan Cobb of Florence; a daughter, Cindy Moore of Burlington, N.C.; two sons, Randall Cobb and Douglas Cobb, both of Burlington, N.C.; a sister, Flora Rainey of Elon College, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Donna Sherrill of Seneca, Jonna Patillo of California and Karmann Osborne of Longs; four grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Florence Moose Lodge No. 2566, 301-B E. Palmetto St., Florence, S.C. 29506.
Ruby Heath Dail
SIMPSON, NC -- Mrs. Ruby Heath Dail, 81, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Winterville cemetery.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ray Dail, and parents, A.Z. (Zeb) and Nancy Dail Heath. Surviving are her husband, Junior Lee Dail; sons, Rev. Ronnie Lee Dail and wife, Barbara May Dail, of Booneville, Miss.; daughters, Carolyn D. Riddick and husband, Rev. Eddie Riddick of Florence, and Judith D. Briley and husband, Billy Briley of Durham; daughter-in-law, Judy Roebuck Dail of Greenville; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Marie Brunson
FLORENCE -- Funeral service for Mrs. Marie Brunson of Kissimmee, Fla., and formerly of Florence will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 in J.O. Smith Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Union cemetery directed by Smith's Funeral Home Inc.
She died Friday, Sept. 28.
Mrs. Brunson was born in Florence County a daughter of the late Lawerance and Marion Gamble Starr.
She was a member of Southern Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Brunson; a daughter, Mary Brunson Richardson; and a son, Joseph Brunson.
Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Copeland of Kissimmee, Fla.; two sisters, Frances Redden of New York and Annie Starr Brown of Florence; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Leroy Richardson; a brother-in-law, Moultrie Redden; nieces; nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
The family is receiving friends at 513 N. Sanborn St., and 408 S. Johns St., Florence.
Laura A. Powell
MYRTLE BEACH -- Laura A. Powell, 62, of The Lakes, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 at her home.
born May 4, 1939 in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Grace Lawrence Atkinson. Mrs. Powell was a graduate of Palmer College in Charleston with a medical secretary degree and worked at M.U.S.C. as a medical secretary. She was a former statistician at Clemson University at the computer center and had worked also for ten years at Belin Child Development Center. She was presently a loan secretary with Conway National Bank in Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Powell was a member of Belin United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Clinton J. Powell; mother-in-law, Annie Frances Powell of Charleston; son, Keith Powell and wife Renee of Myrtle Beach; daughters, Anne P. Herring and husband, Howard of Myrtle Beach and Claire Powell of Florence; grandchildren, Alora and Alexis Powell and Blake and Allison Herring; brother, Frank Atkinson and wife, Jozhan of Charleston and several nieces and nephews of Charleston.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Burial will follow in Belin Memorial cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Nathaniel 'Nat' Smith III
FLORENCE -- Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services for Mr. Nathaniel "Nat" Smith III, 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion AME Church in Florence. Burial will follow in Northview cemetery. Mr. Smith died on Saturday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
born in Anniston, Alabama, he was the son of Nathaniel Smith II and Patricia Ann Gregg Smith. He was predeceased by his grandparents Eugene and Bertie Lee Gregg.
He attended the public schools of Florence.
Survivors are a daughter, Chastity Daniels; son, Khalil Smith; sisters, Shonda Shiree Gregg, Tameika Tenee' Smith; half sisters, Nattille Yvette Kenny, Ray Ann Smith, Shnatta Smith; grandparents, Edmund Smith Sr. and Hazel L. Smith; brotherly cousin, DeShan Gregg; and devoted friend, Nico Thomas.
The family is receiving friends at 304 Landsdale Drive.

Emma Elizabeth Price
TIMMONSVILLE -- Funeral service for Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Pompey Price will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church with the Bishop W.L. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Bacote-Eaddy Funeral Home of Timmonsville.
Mrs. Price died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001.
She was born in Augusta, Ga. a daughter of the late Josh and Viola McCutheon Pompey. She was a faithful member of St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church for 74 years and served as mother of the church, member of the choirs and finance committee. She was a member of the Mutual Aid Lodge #29 and the Joint Stock Lodge.
She was the widow of Mr. Matthew Miles and Mr. Bizan Price. Five children preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Helen Simon and Madalyn Dumas; two sons, James Ray (Helen) Price and Roosevelt (Rosa Lee) Price; a granddaughter reared in the home, Elvadine (Jerome) Hickson; two great grandchildren of the home, Sierra Lavesha and Jerome Hickson; a brother, Charlie Pompey; a sister, Elizabeth Wingate; 34 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren and 65 great-great grandchildren.
