HARTSVILLE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Lee Myers will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, the Rev. Edward J. Squire, pastor, with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc.
Mrs. Myers was born in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Demon and Millie Ann McCleod. She moved to Hartsville in the early '40s and was educated in the public schools. Jessie was married
to Frank Myers for 45 years. They moved to Newark, N.J., where they raised their three children as well as several other children in their home. She worked as a head cook and supervisor in the school system in Newark, N.J., for 35 years. She retired in 1996 and she and her husband returned to South Carolina. Jessie was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church; while in Newark, N.J., she worshipped at Wells Cathedral Church of God in Christ.
Survivors in addition to her husband, Frank Myers of the home, are two daughters, Angela (William) Davis of Columbia and Linda (Jack Hunter) Jackson of Hartsville; a son, Donnie Myers of Hartsville; a sister, Ruby (Alexander Clark) Green of Fayetteville, Ga.; stepbrother, Roy (Naomi) McIver of Detroit; and two grandchildren.
Leo R. Perritte Sr.
FORK -- Mr. Leo Robert Perritte Sr., 85, husband of Patsy W. Perritte, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Perritte, the Rev. Thomas Timmons and the Rev. Hank Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Perritte was born Oct. 14, 1916 in Marion County, a son of the late Thomas Robert "Bob" Perritte an the late Mary Frances Johnson Perritte. Mr. Perritte owned and operated Perritte's Grocery in Fork from 1945 until 1975 and was a used car dealer until his retirement. He attended Zion School and graduated from Latta High School. Mr. Perritte also was a graduate of North Carolina State University. He was a member of Fork Masonic Lodge No. 258 for 44 years, where he served as chaplain. Mr. Perritte was a member of Fork Presbyterian Church, where served as Elder, Sunday School teacher, Superintendent and Layman.
Surviving Mr. Perritte in addition to his wife of the home are four sons, Rev. Larry Perritte of Atlanta, Bobby Perritte of Fork, Frankie Perritte of Fork and Leo R. Perritte Jr. of Mullins; a stepson, Michael J. Cox Sr. of Whiteville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Mr. Perritte was predeceased by his first wife, Geneva Evans Perritte, and his daughter, Annette Perritte Richardson.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Maxie K. Bazen Sr.
FLORENCE -- Maxie K. Bazen, Sr., 82, husband of Doris Cook Bazen, died Thursday, December 20, 2001 in Conway Nursing Center after a long illness. born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Jessie K. Bazen, Sr. and Plummer Calcutt Bazen. He was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Bazen and two grandchildren, Charlie "Chuck" Bazen, Jr. and an infant, Russell Lee Bazen.
Prior to his illness, he was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Florence, SC. He was a Deacon and also served as Treasurer for many years while a member of Southside Baptist Church, Florence, SC. He was the owner of M.K. Bazen Construction Company, until his retirement. He previously served on the Florence Zoning Commission.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Cook Bazen, of Myrtle Beach, SC; four children, Maxie K. Bazen, Jr. and wife Glenda of Greenwood, SC, Linda B. Hughes of Myrtle Beach, SC, Charlie L. Bazen and wife Cathy of Florence, SC, Sandra B. Cobb and husband Allen of Cassatt, SC; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Jessie K. Bazen, Jr. and wife Willa Snow of Pamplico, SC; two nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2001 from 7-9 pm, at Cain-Poston Funeral Home, 512 West Second Loop Road, Florence, SC. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2001 at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Mount Hope cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Mid-State S.C. Chapter, Post Office Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202.
Shaun D. Holcomb
MULLINS -- Mr. Shaun Dale Holcomb, 29, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at Jeannette cemetery in Lookout, W.Va., directed by Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home.
Mr. Holcomb was born Nov. 2, 1972 in Russellville, W.Va., a son of L. Joe Holcomb, Sr. and Judith Giatras Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb was co-owner of Atlantic Southern Builders. He was a member of the S.C. National Guard for the past 10 years.
Surviving Mr. Holcomb are his parents, L. Joe Holcomb Sr. and Judith Giatras Holcomb of Canon, Ga.; his children, Justin Stanley Holcomb and Madison Michelle Holcomb, both of Mullins; two brothers, Larry Holcomb Jr. of Atlanta and Chris Holcomb of Mullins; a sister, Denise Martin of Hartwell, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Holcomb was predeceased by two sisters and a brother.
Ananda Cooper
JOHNSONVILLE -- Ananda Cooper, 94, of 1004 Beaver Road, Johnsonville died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Jeremiah UM Church. Interment will follow in James Swamp cemetery directed by Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home Inc.
Mr. Cooper was born in Williamsburg County daughter of the late Robert and Sallie White. She was educated in the public school of Williamsburg County. She joined Jeremiah UM Church at an early age, serving as a choir member, Stewardess and a community club member. In 1964 she moved to New Jersey and joined St. John UM Church. While in New Jersey she became a Licensed Practical Nurse.
She was married
to the late Willie Roy Cooper. To this union 10 children were born; three preceded her in death.
Survivors are three daughters, Sallie Mathis and Evelyn Walker, both of Johnsonville, and Arnetta James of Newark, N.J.; five sons, Norman Cooper and James (Emily) Cooper, both of Johnsonville, Robert (Francis) Cooper of Cedar Grove, N.J., David (Helene) Cooper of Union, N.J., and Samuel (Janice) Cooper of Grand Forks, N.D.; 28 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Alifair White of Deerfield Beach, Fla.
Wake service is from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.
Anthony 'Craig' Smith
SUFFOLK, Va. -- Mr. Anthony "Craig" Smith, 44, died at Obisici Hospital in Suffolk, Va., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001 after an illness. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 from the Richardson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Chatham County, Ga., a son of the late Samuel Fletcher Smith and Eunice Craig Mawyer Smith. He also was predeceased by a brother, Samuel Fletcher Smith Jr. Mr. Smith was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Marion. He also was in Manufactured Housing Sales, working in management.
Mr. Smith is survived by a son, James Anthony "Jamie" Smith of Florence; two daughters, Jennifer Ryan Smith Hucks and Meagan Renee Smith, both of Columbia; a brother, James Allen Smith of Suffolk, Va.; and three sisters, Barbara Smith Reynolds of Marion, Kathryn Smith Kramer of Suffolk, Va., and Norma Smith Sander of Troutville, Va.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mamie Yarbrough
BETHUNE -- Funeral service for Mary Alice Hugh "Mamie' Yarbrough, 100, of Bethune, will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Bethune Presbyterian Church with burial in Scotch cemetery. The Rev. Lonnie Richardson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the home in Bethune. Memorials may be made to Bethune Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 68, Bethune, S.C. 29009 or Hospice of Georgetown County, 2591 Fraser St., Georgetown, S.C. 29442.
Mrs. Yarbrough died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001. born in Bethune, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Muriel and Mary Alice West Hough. She was a homemaker, a member of Bethune Presbyterian Church and a member of Bethune Women's Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Frances Yarbrough Cagle of Andrews; a granddaughter, Mary Alice Cagle Young of Lake City; two great granddaughters, Mary Katherine Young and Ashley Cagle Young of Lake City; a sister, Clara Frances Hough Howard of Bainbridge, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Edwin McKinnon Yarbrough Jr.
John Wesley Collins
FLORENCE -- Funeral services for Mr. John Wesley Collins will be conducted 12 noon Monday in the chapel of Ideal Funeral Parlor. Burial will follow in Florence National cemetery. He died on Dec. 13, 2001 in a local hospital after an illness.
John Wesley Collins was born Oct. 27, 1938 in Florence. He was the son of the late Rev. Richard Collins and Annie Lee James.
He attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Wilson High School. He served in the U.S. Army for a number of years. John was retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
Left to cherish his precious memories are a devoted and special friend, Martha C. Jones of the home; daughter, Mrs. Miranda (Kelvin) Jones of Hampton; two sons, Leroy C. Collins of Miami, Fla. and Mr. John F. Collins of Florence; seven grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Jacquelene Wingate of Florence; two aunts, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Molly Odom Creech
BENNETTSVILLE -- Services for Mrs. Molly Odom Creech, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of the Nazarene with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the First Church of the Nazarene.

Mrs. Creech died Sunday. born in Marlboro County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Molly Hubbard Odom. She resided in Stamford, Conn. for 28 years prior to returning to Bennettsville. She retired from Clairol, Inc. after 24 years of service. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She should be remembered as an especially loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Ralph K Creech; daughters, Mrs. Patricia C. Pruitt and husband Roy of Bennettsville, Mrs. Linda C. Ritch and husband Bruce of Statesville, Mrs. Betty C. Genovese and husband Billy of Myrtle Beach, and Mrs. Nancy C. Carlucci and husband Frank of Stamford, Conn.; a brother, Earl Odom of Bennettsville; a sister, Mary O. Herndon of Bennettsville; grandchildren, Janet P. Sides, Winston Genovese, Billy Genovese, Peter Carlucci and Frank Carlucci and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Marshall and George Odom; a sister, Annie Mae Odom; and a grandson, Raymond Browning Patterson Jr.
Lillie Mae Shaw
DARLINGTON -- Funeral service for Mrs. Lillie Mae Shaw will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 in New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church the Rev. Calvin Daniels, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home Inc.
Mrs. Shaw, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 16 in a Florence nursing home after an illness. She was born in Darlington a daughter of the late Demus Jack and Fannie Hunter Richardson. She was the widow of Marcus Shaw.
She was educated in the Darlington County public school system graduating from Butler High School Class of 1938.
She settled in New York City. There she met and married
Marcus Shaw. She joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Deaconess Board and the Hospitality Committee.
She was a long-time employee of Spotless Cleaners in New Jersey and later employed as a Unit Clerk at the Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.
After retirement in 1974, she relocated to Darlington. She became actively involved in New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the choir, the Deaconess Board, the Pastor's Aide Society, the Homebound Ministry and taught Sunday School.
Survivors include a sister, Catherine (Alexander) Stewart of New York City; a son, Odell (Carletta) Shaw of Atlanta; an aunt, Marie Jones (101 years old) of Bronx, N.Y.; three nieces, Alexia White, Patricia (Eric) Johnson and Kimberly (Eric, "Rickey") Johnson; great-nephews and -nieces; cousin, Willie "Bo" (Pearl) Johnson; and in-laws of Lithonia, Ga.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 104 Kirven St., Darlington.
Mr. Adolphus 'Rick' Richardson Jr.
FLORENCE -- Funeral Services for Mr. Adolphus "Rick" Richardson, Jr., will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday at New Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florence. Burial will follow in the Florence Memorial Gardens. He died on December 13, 2001.
born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Aldolphus and Rosa Lou Richardson.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1955 and received an honorable discharge in 1959.
Rick began his career with the United States Postal Service in December 1961, and retired in October 1992. He also worked with various security firms and the Florence County Sheriff's Office as a school crossing guard since his retirement.
Rick joined New Ebenezer Baptist Church and served in the Sunday School Department, Mass Choir and Male Chorus.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy S. Richardson; two children, Adolphus Richardson, III and Anita Delores Richardson; one brother, Samuel (Molly) Richardson; one aunt, Lucille Richardson; father-in-law, Wilbert Scriven; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law; spiritual children, Minister and Mrs. Alexis (Ladonna) Pipkins Sr.; dedicated friends, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie (Linda) Thomas.
Family is receiving friends at 605 Royal Street, Florence, SC.

Carol Joyce Melton
FLORENCE -- Carol Joyce Melton, 75, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2001, at the Heritage Home of Florence after an extended illness. born in Michigan December 25, 1925, she and her late husband Robert L. Melton and family, moved to Florence in 1965. She was a member of the Florence Church of God for several years and later moved to Darlington County and became a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Hartsville.
She is survived by 5 brothers from Michigan, Ohio and Arizona; 3 sons, James L. Melton of Bakersfield, Ca., Curtiss A. Melton of Scranton and Nelson L. Melton of Florence; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Hartsville at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church on Thursday, December 20 at 3:00pm.

Virginia A. Gaskin Cameron
SCRANTON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia A. Gaskin Cameron will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001 from St. Paul Baptist Church on McKnight Road in the High Hill Community of Scranton with the Rev. Lauris J. Eaddy officiating and burial in Sandhill Memorial Park, directed by Green's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cameron, 62, died on Friday, Dec. 14. She was a daughter of the late Anderson and Mattie Gaskins.
Surviving are two sons, Jimmy Gaskins and Timothy Cameron, both of Jersey City, N.J.; a daughter, Annette Cameron of Jersey City; three brothers, Anderson (Willie Mae) Gaskins, John (Elouise) Gaskins and Joe (Tina) Gaskins; five sisters, Queene McCullough, Blondell Gaskins, Betty (Willie) Cameron, Mattie Gaskins and Mary Ann Daniels; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Roland James Johnson
FLORENCE -- Funeral service for Mr. Roland James Johnson will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001 in Bethel Apostolic Church, Elder Harry Williams, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Backus Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson, 46, was the son of the late Frances Porter and Thomas Johnson Sr. Educated in Florence District 1, he was a member of Bethel.
Surviving are two sisters, Selena (Roy) Goodson and Nathalene (Edward) Ingram of the home; four brothers, Frank (Jannie Mae) , Solomon (Annie Ruth) and Willie (Thelma) Porter, and James Thomas Johnson Jr., all of Florence; five aunts; other relatives and friends.
The family will receive members and friends at the home 711 N. Stackley St., Florence.
