KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. Paul A. Lancaster, 90, of 107 Lancaster Drive, Kings Mountain, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Summitt Place, Kings Mountain, after a short illness. Mr. Lancaster was born in Union County on Sept. 19, 1912, the son of the late Wallace M. and Carrie Gallman Lancaster and widow of the late Martha Louis Jones Lancaster who died in 1995 and was also preceded in death by a son, Hugh Lancaster, in 1996. He attended Union area schools, graduating in 1929. On June 30, 1933, he married Martha Louis Jones of Jonesville. They settled in Kings Mountain in 1954 and both became active in the Bethlehem Baptist Church, of which he was a member for 49 years.
He taught the PALS Sunday School Class for 40 years. He was the retired president and co-founder of Kings Mountain Mica Co., past president of the North Carolina Mining Association, member and past chairman of the CarolinaÕs Section of the Society of Mining Engineers, member and past Master of the Prudence Masonic Lodge A. F. M. 139 of Jonesville and a Y York Rite Mason and Shriner.
Surviving are a daughter, Bette Passamani of Iron River, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Helen Greenfield of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Wallace Lancaster of Bishopville, Dwight Lancaster of Irmo and Maxie Lancaster of Pahrump, Nevada; grandchildren, David Lancaster of York; Steven Lancaster of Kings Mountain, Christ Passamani of Lansing, Mich., Tina Akin of Arlington, Texas and Mark Passamani of Cedar Park, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. David Blanton and the Rev. Russell Fitts officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Pauline with full Masonic Rites. Visitation will be from 1 p.m.until 2 p. m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, P.O. Box 247, Pauline 29374. The Harris Funeral Home Inc. of Kings Mountain has charge of arrangements.
Mary M. Millwood
Mary West (Mickey) Millwood, 83, formerly of Buffalo, widow of James L. (Chub) Millwood, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. in Oakmont Nursing Home. Mrs. Millwood was born in Great Falls on July 2, 1919, a daughter of the late Paul and Leva Hawkins West. She was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church, a former member of the Chancel Choir, a member of the Rosa Rountree Sunday School Class and the Annie Massey Circle. Mrs. Millwood was retired from Milliken & Co., Monarch Plant and also retired from AAR Canteen Service.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Hugh Sanders of Buffalo; two grandsons, Russ and Rhonda Sanders, Tracy and Lori Sanders all of Buffalo; and three great-grandchildren, Courtney Sanders, Codey Sanders and Lee Sanders, all of Buffalo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Philip Chandler. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Spartanburg. Active pallbearers will be Terry Sturgill, Jimmy Maness, Jackie Haney, Bobby Fleming, Buddy Fleming and Jimmy Heatherly.
The following are asked to sit in a group: Avonell and Lester Zimmerman, Stella Ann Maness, Betty Jo Simmons, Janet Stone, members of the Annie Massey Circle and members of the Rosa Rountree Sunday Class of Buffalo United Methodist Church.
The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Hugh Sanders, 148 Bailey Road, Buffalo, and will receive friends at the church Saturday from 1-2 p.m. Memorials may be made to Buffalo United Methodist Church, 2003 Church Renovations Fund, P.O, Box 176, Buffalo, S.C. 29321. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Bobby Lee Rogers Jr.
Bobby Lee Rogers Sr., 51, of 402 Tight Circle, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, A native of Union County, he was the husband of Marjorie Rodgers Rogers of Jonesville and the son of the late Mrs. Cora Lee Rice and Alfred Rogers Sr. of Union. Mr. Rogers was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church of Buffalo. He was a former minister of music with Montgomery Chapel Baptist Church of Pacolet and had also served as the minister of music for the Regional All Male Choruses of Union.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, LaShon Rogers of Jonesville; and a son, Bobby Lee Rogers Jr. of Jonesville. The family will receive family and friends at the home of his mother-in-law, Annie Belle Rodgers, 1010 West Springs Highway, Jonesville. The J.W. Woodward Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
Laura G. Smith
Laura G. Smith, 95, of 108 Shady St., died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 31, 1907, in Union County, the daughter of the late Ed and Alice Smith. She attended Union County schools and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Eddie Woodson of Jonesville; a son-in-law, Willie Beckman of Detroit, Mich.; three granddaughters, Patricia (Phil) Craig, Jackie (Rufus) McWilliams and Dorothy L. Beckman, all of Detroit, Mich.; and two grandsons, Brent (Sylvia) Beckman and Marc (Freida) Beckman of Detroit, Mich.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Jonesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation/viewing will be held Saturday from 7 until 7:45 p m. at Gibson & Brown Chapel. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Kathryn B. Kicidis
Kathryn Byrd Kicidis, 81, formerly of 207 Hillcrest Drive, widow of James Mitchell Kicidis, died Friday, April 11, 2003, in Oakmont Nursing Home after an extended illness. Mrs. Kicidis was born in Blythwood on Jan. 21, 1922, a daughter of the late Joseph Carl and Lenora Ellinger Byrd. She was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church and attended McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church.
She served as past organist at Augsburg Lutheran Church and was a member of the choir at McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Kicidis was a member of the Virginia HeathÕs Bible Class at Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty R. Outen of Columbia and Tami K. Howell of Sumter; four sons, Melton E. Roof of Spartanburg, Michael D. Kicidis of Charlotte, Kenneth Roof of Columbia and James M. Kicidis of Charlotte; a brother, John E. Byrd of Chapin; a sister, Ruth Evelyn Starnes of Blythwood; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Cryptside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum conducted by the Rev. E. Arnold Shealy. The following grandsons will be active pallbearers: Carl Roof, Michael Fulmer, Jeff Roof, Brad Roof, Grayson Howell, Marcus Howell, Chris Kicidis and David Conlin.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8. The family is at the home of her sister-in-law, Margaret Leventis, 314 Glendale Road, Union.
Memorials may be made to Augsburg Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 366, Union, S.C. 29379 or to the McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lockhart Highway, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Stephen W. Mann Jr.
Stephen W. Mann Jr., 91, husband of Mary Baker Mann, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. A native of Princeton, Ark., he was born Sept. 1, 1911, a son of the late Stephen W. Mann Sr. and Neil Clark Mann, He was a retired comptroller with Sears. Surviving in addition to his wife are a step-son and daughter-in-law, John D. and Pat W. Long; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a beloved cousin, Edwin Fuller of Pine Bluff, Ark. At Mr. Mann's request, private arrangements will be handled by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
Bobby Lee Rogers Jr.
Bobby Lee Rogers Sr., 51, of 402 Tight Circle, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003. A native of Union County, he was the husband of Marjorie Rodgers Rogers of Jonesville and the son of the late Mrs. Cora Lee Rice and Alfred Rogers Sr. of Union.

The family will receive family and friends at the home of his mother-in-law, Annie Belle Rodgers, 1010 West Springs Highway, Jonesville. Visitation will be held on Sunday. The family will receive at 402 Tight Circle on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Baptist Church in Buffalo conducted by the Rev. George W. Shell and the Rev. Jefferson McDowell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon to await the hour of service. The J.W. Woodward Funeral Home Inc. of Spartanburg is in charge of arrangements.
Derrill E. Schumpert Sr.
Derrill Ernest Schumpert Sr., 71, of 313 Brookside Drive, husband of Millie H. Schumpert, died at his home Friday, April 11, 2003, at 8:28 a.m. after a brief illness. Mr. Schumpert was born in Newberry on May 9, 1931, a son of the late Francis Marion Schumpert and Kizzie Henson Schumpert. He was a graduate of Newberry High School, attended Clemson University and was a graduate of Newberry College.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and also served as financial chairman for numerous years. He was a member of the Union County Chamber of Commerce where he served as president in 1976 and 1977, he was a charter member of the Union Civitan Club where he had served as president and secretary and was named Man of the Year in 1968 and 1969 and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard. Mr. Schumpert was retired president and CEO at Union Federal Savings and Loan where he served over 35 years.
He was first married to the late Frances Sanders Schumpert. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and David Nichols of Rock Hill and Ann and Chuck Foster of Fort Mill; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Patrick Sullivan of San Francisco, Calif., and Carol and Carlton Craig of Asheville, N.C.; a step-son and daughter-in-law, David and Julie Hancock of Burlington, N.C.; a sister, Doris Schumpert Gardner of Newberry; an aunt, Elizabeth Miller of Lexington; 11 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Schumpert was predeceased by a sister, Frances Schumpert Bennett. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Gary Byrd. Burial will be in the Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the following nephews: Jimmy Bennett, David Bennett, Todd Bennett, Chris Bennett and Howard Wells, Scott White, Chip Alexander and Al Maxwell.
The following are asked to assemble at the church Sunday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: members of the Union Civitan Club and Claude Finley, Dr. Jeffrey Craft, Chester Todd and Lynn Eaves. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Window Fund, P.O. Box 446, Union, S.C. 29379 or to Hospice Care of S.C., 128-C Medical Science Drive, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Myrtle W. Aycock
CASSELBERRY, Fla. Myrtle Mae Harmon Whitehead Aycock, 96, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in her home at 124 Park Ave., Casselberry, Fla. Survivors include a sister, June Sloan of Lakeland; two daughters, Betty Carol Terhune of West Palm Beach and Sandra Joan Clark of Casselberry; a son-in-law, Casselberry Vice Mayor Al Clark; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Aycock was born in Booneville, Ind., and lived for many years in West Palm Beach before moving to Casselberry. She was the widow of Bob Whitehead of West Springs and Harold J. Aycock of West Palm Beach, one of the founders of the Florida Skindivers Association. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and cooking, and was active in her local community. She previously taught Sunday School in West Springs.
Mrs. Aycock was buried April 12 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in West Palm Beach. Donations will be gratefully accept in her memory to the cemetery fund at Bogansville United Methodist Church, 4052 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Jonesville, S.C. 29353.
