GREENWOOD – Fred Curtiss Rauton, 62, resident of 117 Brentwood Drive, husband of Mary Emma Owens Rauton, died December 12, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
born in Greenwood County, July 26, 1942, he was a son of the late Hoyt C. and Iola Lyda Rauton. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School. Mr. Rauton owned and operated Ninety Six Video and Tanning in Ninety Six and Sunkissed Tanning Salon in Greenville. He was a former police officer with the Greenwood City Police Department. For many years he coached Little League football and girl’s softball.
He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and served for a number of years as president of the Ninety Six Band Boosters Club. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two daughters, Mary Brent Rauton of Greenwood and Misty Rauton Ennis of Greenville; two sons, Fred Curtiss Rauton, Jr. of Augusta, GA and Matthew Trent Rauton of Greenwood; two sisters, Omie R. Walker and Belvia R. Gonce, both of Greenwood; a brother, James Clarence Rauton of Abbeville; two grandsons; one step-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM Wednesday at Siloam Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Crittendon officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Todd Douglass, Ken Rauton, Ken Stargel, Chris Pulley, Earl Pulley, Gerald Rauton, Mike Maffett and James Allen Kennemore, Jr.
Honorary escort will be Clarence Putnam, Allen Kennemore, John Hodges, Bobby Davis, Tony Ray Griffin, Lee Stargel, Tammy Galphin, Penny Corbin, Ellis Martin, Jr. and John Martin.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1PM Wednesday.
The family is at the home on Brentwood Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening.

William David Shipman, Jr.
BLADENBORO, NC – William David Shipman Jr., 74, known to his hometown as “Brother Shipman”, died Sunday, December 12, 2004 at Bladen County Hospital.
Mr. Shipman was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William D. and Mattie Lee Shipman. A brother C.A. Shaw and a sister Mary Shipman Bazemore.
He graduated from Bladenboro High School and from NCState University of Textiles. He was a veteran in the 82nd airborne Division of the USArmy, and a Mason in the Greenwood, SC lodge. Mr. Shipman was a retired quality control engineer for Monsanto Textiles Company. Mr. Shipman was a commissioner for the Town of Bladenboro. for 8 years and served with the Merchants and Bladenboro Citizens Association and Committee of 100. He was a member the First Baptist Church in Bladenboro. His sense of humor and his friendly smile with a ready joke will be missed.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 16, 2004 at Lewis Funeral Home from 7 until 9pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 17, 2004 at 11am at the First Baptist Church in Bladenboro. Officiating will be the Rev. Bert Young. Burial will follow in Pine Crest cemetery.
Mr. Shipman is survived by his wife Martha Bridger Shipman of the home. One daughter Sharron S. Kovalchik, of Honolulu, Hawaii. Two sons: William D. Shipman III of Marion, SC, and Michael Livingston Shipman of Maryville, Tenn. Two brothers J.C. “Tater” Shaw of Bladenboro and Robert C. Shipman of Spencer, NC. Six grandchildren; William Kovalchik, John Kovalchik, Bishop Shipman, Taylor Shipman, Meredith Shipman, and Jeff Shipman.

ABBEVILLE — Mary Tiller Wright, 73, of 115 Morse Ave., died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at her home.
born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late Odell and Ida Sorrow Tiller. She worked at Fovil Manufacturing Plant for 12 years and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Hand and Carolyn Sink, both of Abbeville; a son, William Wright Jr. of Abbeville; a brother, Bill Tiller of Abbeville; a sister, Ophelia Medlin of Abbeville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. today at Harris Funeral Home. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is 12-2 today at the funeral home.

Annie Mae Booker
Annie Mae Booker, 89, formerly of 543 Goode St., widow of Sam H. Booker, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Robert Smith Robinson and Queen Ester Dean Robinson. She retired from Connie Maxwell and was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth.
Survivors include two daughters, Sallye Raford of Washington, D.C., and Joann Warren of Greenwood; a brother, Charlie Robinson of Greenwood; four sisters, Eleanor Lynch and Lillie Mae Glenn, both of Washington, D.C., Iola Gill and Maggie Andy, both of Greenwood; a nephew reared in the home, Tommie Hamilton of Greenwood; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

GREENWOOD – Ida Belle Ouzts Bryan, 86, resident of 315 Rock Knoll Drive, widow of Marion B. Bryan died December 13, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center
born in Edgefield June 11, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Earle and Viola Adell Fox Ouzts. She was retired from Eastwill Sportswear and a member of The Lighthouse Baptist Church in Abbeville.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Irvin (Faye) Hurt of Greenwood, two granddaughters, Mrs. Larry (Cindy) Summey who was reared in the home and Mrs. Andrew (Cecelia) Cook both of Greenwood, two brothers, J. Earle Ouzts of West Columbia and Kermit Ouzts of Edgefield, four sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Jennie) Wilson of Prosperity, Lucille Padgett of Johnston, Mrs. Wayne (June) Moffett of North Augusta and Mrs. Tom (Mary) Korrek of Edgefield, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30pm Wednesday from the BIyth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robbie Burton and Rev. James Boling officiating.
Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Tecora Gaston Burt
McCORMICK — Tecora Gaston Burt, 74, wife of Deacon James “Fab” Burt, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at her home.
born in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of late Wade and Cornelia Talbert Gaston. She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Plum Branch, where she was a church secretary, director of Vacation Bible School, president of the Simmon Ridge Samaritan Baptist Association Women’s Auxiliary, dean of the Western Division of Macedonia Baptist Sunday School Congress and many local church auxiliaries. She graduated from Edgefield Academy, received a bachelor of science degree from Morris College, Sumter, and did further studies at South Carolina State University and the University of South Carolina.
Retiring after 34 years of teaching in Edgefield County schools, she was a member of the Edgefield County Election Commission, Helping Hand Club of Edgefield, Retired Educational Association and was a Worthy Matron of The Ponds Chapter No. 33, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a brother, Earl Gaston of Philadelphia; a niece and caregiver, Wanda Jean Morton of McCormick; and a nephew reared in the home, William W. Rearden of Fort Washington, Md.
The family is at the home, No. 67 Gaston Road, Edgefield County.

Archie Fredrick Dean
RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Archie Fredrick Dean, 89, formerly of Saluda, S.C., husband of Alice Bell Dean, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004.
born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Aaron and Elizabeth Campbell Dean. He was a World War II veteran, a former member of the Mine Creek Baptist Church and a retired employee of EC Electroplating.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Daniel Dean of Milford, Mass., Archie Dean of Hayward, Calif., and Richard Dean of Rutherford; a daughter, Janet Wilcox of Columbia, Md.; and a sister, Gertie Lee Henderson of Saluda. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mine Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Saluda.

Harold E. Hampton
CLINTON, SC – Harold E. Hampton, age 80, of 208 Academy St. died Sunday, December 12th at his home.
He was born in Ware Shoals and was the son of the late William A. and Maggie Lowery Hampton.
Mr. Hampton was retired from Clinton Mills and served on the City Council for 8 years. He was also a member of the Bailey Memorial Methodist Church and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on the U.S.S. Samuel Moore and took part in the Normandy Invasion and served in the Pacific Theatre.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Thrift Hampton of the home; two sons, Darryl E. Hampton of Greenwood and Dennis A. Hampton of Laurens; one daughter, Tami Fowler of Clinton; nine grandchildren, Ashley Hampton, Brantlee Hampton, Chad Webb, Miles Fowler, Shea Fowler, Zachary Hampton, Kelsey Hampton, David Hampton and Will Hampton; one great grandchild, Trey Hampton; a brother, A. W. Hampton of Greenwood.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Rosemont cemetery.
His sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will received friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

born in Whitmire, she was a daughter of the late Arthur W. and Tedie Pilgrim Starnes. She retired from Whitten Center and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Carol Feltman Sluder of Seneca and Phyllis Feltman Powell of Greenwood; a son, Artie Hazel of the home; a sister, Ruth “Scrappy” Wherry of Batesburg; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
