GREENWOOD – Jo Lynn Rice Thompson, 71, resident of 106 W. Northside Drive, wife of Jack E, Thompson, died December 12, 2004 at her home.
born in Greenwood County, November 7, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth M. and Virginia Montjoy Rice. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired from Monsanto (now Solutia) after 25 years of service.
A charter member of Harris Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and the Joy Group of the church. She was a member of the Tarrant ella Dance Club, the Greenwood Woman’s Club and the OPEL Club.
Mrs. Thompson was twice married
, first to the late Richard Allen Smith.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a daughter, Laurie S. Menard of Greenwood; two sons, Mike Smith and Doug Smith, both of Greenwood; two stepsons, Tony Thompson of Greenwood and Terry Thompson of Hodges; three brothers, Donald Rice of Macon, GA, Larry Rice of Rome, GA and Richard Rice of Clemson; grandchildren, Matthew Menard, Brock Thompson and Tanner Thompson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday from the BIyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev, Frank Thomas and Otto McDonald officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be David Crotts, Jim Rice, Robert Menard, Gerald Sartain, Bill McCollum, Robert Triplette, Gerald Deaton, Morris Ridge and Brock Thompson.
Honorary escort will be members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Harris Baptist Church.
The family is at the home on Northside Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening.

born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Will Grant Aiken and Lana Davis Aiken. He was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church and a retired textile worker from Riegel Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Aiken; a son Jerry Aiken of Greenville; four daughters, Ethel M. Aiken of Youngstown, Ohio, Joann Aiken of Lexington, N.C., Naomi Tracy Graham of Greenville and Mary E. Aiken of Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Effie Carson Lott. She was twice married
, first to the late Willie Stone. She was retired from Saluda County Council on Aging and was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Caroline Shealy of Columbia, Ruth Ann Felker of Newberry, Billie Starling of Saluda and Mary Parr of Newberry; two sisters, Sue Lott and Ruth Medley, both of Cokesbury; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Leila Johnston
Leila Gladden Johnston, 86, of Winnsboro, entered her eternal rest Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008.
Funeral services were held Sept. 16 at Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Peter G. Rambo Sr. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Johnston was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Lenora Hornsby Gladden and wife of the late Thomas L. Johnston, Sr. for 45 years. She spent most of her life in Fairfield County and attended the public schools in Fairfield. As a devoted lifelong member of Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder. Mrs. Johnston was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. In her later years she moved to Chester County, where she had a second career working for the Senior Citizens Organization of Chester.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by her son, Thomas L. Johnston Jr. and his wife Valerie Walsh Johnston; two grandchildren, Thomas Brooks Johnston and Erica Johnston Newell; two great-grandchildren, Nickolas Peyton Newell and Paris Lacie Newell, all of Fort Mill; a brother, William E. Gladden and his wife, Jeanette, of Chester; and a sister, Ophelia G. Bennett of Rock Hill. She is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.

Adele Lytle
Mrs. Adele Kirkland Lytle, 96, of Fort Mill, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Community.
The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 1 at St. John's United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Warren officiating. Burial followed at Unity cemetery.
Mrs. Lytle was born Sept. 10, 1912, in Lancaster. She was a daughter of the late George Kirkland and Estelle Roberts Kirkland Steele. Mrs. Lytle graduated from Winthrop Training School, where she was a running champion. She also graduated from Winthrop College, with a B.S. in Home Economics and Science. Mrs. Lytle began teaching school in Lancaster County and spent most of her career teaching in the Fort Mill School system, where she retired. Prior to her health problems she was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Susie Armstrong Circle. As a member of the Senior Citizens of the Fort Mill Complex, she performed with the clowns and Seniors Choral Group. She was an active volunteer working with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Her talents of cooking and sewing were shared with many.
Mrs. Lytle is survived by her son, Dr. William Franklin "Billy" Lytle Jr. of Titusville, Fla.; her daughter-in-law, Elaine Tarleton of Fort Mill; two grandchildren, Rocky Rhoad and his wife, Chris, of Rock Hill and Ricky Rhoad and his wife, Robin, of Leslie; four great-grandchildren, Kristen Rhoad and Trey Rhoad, both of Rock Hill and Daisy Adele and Alli Rhoad of Leslie; her brother-in-law, Brice E. Lytle and his wife Betty of Titusville and their three children and 10 grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Adelle Lytle Brown of Hanahan and Martha Kirkland of Rock Hill; three nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Lytle Sr.; a son, Dr. John Ervin Lytle; her grandson, David Rhoad; her brother, John Henry Kirkland; and a great-grandson, Ricky Rhoad Jr.

Mr. William Calvin Kimbrell Sr., 89, of Fort Mill, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was two days from his 90th birthday.

born in Fort Mill, Mr. Kimbrell was a son of the late Charles Sarger Kimbrell and Leila Belk Kimbrell. His family moved to Columbia, where he graduated from Columbia High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific theatre.
Mr. Kimbrell was a passionate philanthropist and member of Unity Presbyterian Church since 1947, where he served on numerous boards and was an elder, a deacon, superintendent of Sunday School and choir member for more than 50 years. He was a tremendous supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and other youth/education organizations and believed - in his own words - "it is better to build boys and girls than to mend men and women." Mr. Kimbrell enjoyed golfing, gardening and fishing, and especially loved his church, community, family and friends; he never met a stranger. He was retired from Kimbrell Furniture Company.
Mr. Kimbrell is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joanne J. Kimbrell; two daughters, Willann Woodward of Columbia and Karen Kimbrell of Fort Mill; his son, William Calvin Kimbrell Jr., and his wife, Dr. Eva Tollefsen, of Greenville; his sister, Carolyn Seigler, and her husband, Cecil, of Columbia; stepsons, Jimmy Austin and his wife, Cathie, of York and Jeff Austin and his wife, Vicki, of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Ashley Edwards and her husband, Mark, of Rock Hill, Alison Gonzales and husband, Arthur, of Columbia, Dixon Woodward and wife, Erica, of Charleston, Chad George of Charleston, Katie Kimbrell of Boston, Margaret Kimbrell of Charleston and Will Kimbrell of Greenville; stepgrandchildren, Jordan, Morgan, Hannah and Grayson Austin; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Melba Cassels Kimbrell; his son-in-law, Andy Woodward; sisters, Nancy K. Davis, Evelyn K. Seigler and Leila K. Barbara Huddy
Barbara Huddy, 74, of Tega Cay, lost her battle with cancer on Jan. 24, 2009.
A memorial service was held Jan. 31 at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Rock Hill. Interment followed in the Smyth Garden located at the church.
Mrs. Huddy was born Oct. 12, 1935, in Muskegon, Mich. She was the daughter of Wilbur and Marion Frost. At age 8, the family moved to Shelby, Mich., where Barbara completed her grade school and high school education. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education. She married
Albert Huddy in 1961. When their two sons reached high school age, she entered the travel business and has seen most of the world. After retiring from the travel business, Barbara and her husband, Al, moved to Tega Cay, leaving even more time to fill her love of traveling. Barbara's Christian faith was very important in her life. Her main concern with her illness was that it did not allow her to attend Sunday services at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior.
Mrs. Huddy is survived by her husband, Albert; her oldest son, Jonathan and his wife, Suzanne and their three children, Tyler, Austin and Marissa; and Peter, her youngest son and his wife, Jamie and their two children, Madison and Michael.
