James Griffin
Mr. James Alexander Griffin, 79, of Fort Mill, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
A memorial service was held Jan. 28 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Fort Mill with the Rev. John L. Warren Jr. officiating.
born in Fort Mill, Mr. Griffin was a son of the late Hudson Harris Griffin and Sara Richardson Griffin. He attended Clemson College. Mr. Griffin served in the National Guard and later in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the air force as an electronics operator. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. He was a Scottish Rites Mason with the Masonic Lodge in Washington, D.C. He also was a member of the Eli Bailes American Legion Post No. 43, a life member of the V.F.W. No. 9138 and a Friend of Bill W. He enjoyed visiting flea markets.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his brother, Jerry L. Griffin and his wife, Alice, of Fort Mill; four sisters, Lucille Grant of Fort Mill, Carolyn G. Faught and her husband, Herb, of Jackson, Tenn., and Pat G. Corley and Phyllis G. Carswell and her husband, Ed, all of Fort Mill; 12 nieces and nephews, Brenda Hayes of Greenville, Karen Hyatt of Greenville, Barbara Liggins of Anderson, Mike Crume of Hamlet, N.C., Don Grant of Mount Pleasant, Barry Grant of Rock Hill, Dawn Eaton of Nashville, Tenn., Chip Faught of Falls Church, Va., Lisa Corley of Fort Mill, Leanne Blanton of Fort Mill, Dr. Claire Carswell of Boston, Mass. and Matthew Carswell of Columbia; and many great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Blanche Griffin, H. H. Griffin Jr., Helen Wilson, Elizabeth Crume and Rosalie Phifer; and his fiancee, Penny Winans.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1298, Fort Mill, SC 29715 or to the charity of one's choice.
Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred B. Neal
Mrs. Mildred Blackwell Neal, 80, of Bozeman Drive, Fort Mill, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Magnolia Manor.
The funeral was Jan. 28 at Sisk Memorial Baptist Church. Burial was in Unity cemetery.
Fort Mill Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Katie Smith Pettus
(Died October 28, 2011)
Mrs. Marian "Katie" Smith Pettus, age 73 of Indian Land, died Friday, October 28, 2011, at her home.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Chapel of Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Benny Green officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
born in Lando, Mrs. Pettus was a daughter of the late Howard Eugene Smith and Cora Alice Taylor Smith. She graduated from Indian Land High School. Mrs. Pettus was retired from Equitable Assurance in Charlotte.
Surviving are her son, Kenneth Pettus (Susan) of Fort Mill; her daughter, Sandra Pettus Campbell (Samuel) of Indian Land; her brother, Charlie Smith (Donna) of Rock Hill; two sisters, Barbara Mathis of New Port Richey, Fla. and Sybil Stanton (Bob) of Rock Hill; and her granddaughter, Sara Pettus of Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Donald Douglas Pettus (2003); and a granddaughter, Shannon Campbell (2001).

William "Bill" Pettus
(Died October 27, 2011)
Mr. William Henry "Bill" Pettus, age 91 of Indian Land, died Thursday, October 27, 2011, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Barry Yates and the Rev. Michael Ritter officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
born in Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. Pettus was a son of the late Dallas Williamson Pettus and Beulah Patterson Pettus. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Pettus was retired from Springs Industries, and was a member of its 25-Year Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Christine Brewer Pettus.
Surviving are three sons, William "Larry" Pettus (Jewel) of Parkersburg, W.Va., James David Pettus (Debbie) of York and Chris D. Pettus of Rock Hill; two daughters, Janice P. Freeman of Indian Land and Donna P. Faris (Steve) of York; his brother, Joseph A. Pettus (Jane) of Indian Land; three sisters, Miriam Shapcott of Staunton, Va., Ruth Byrd of North Myrtle Beach and Virginia Danenhower of Rock Hill; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Ernest "Ernie" Ruppert
(Died October 29, 2011)
Mr. Ernest "Ernie" Joseph Ruppert, age 82 of Tega Cay, died Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Agape Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, with Father John Giuliani, C.O. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Administration Building.
born in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Ruppert was a son of the late Frank and Catherine Norysius Ruppert. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Mr. Ruppert was retired from Lockheed-Martin in California. He was a pilot, aerobatic competitor and judge, a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the American Motorcycle Association. He was a member of several bowling teams and the Tega Cay Vintage Club. Mr. Ruppert was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Dorcas Christine Bendz Ruppert; his son Ron Ruppert of Lake Wylie, S.C.; granddaughter Kyla Ruppert; niece Brandy LeBoulch; and nephew, Michael McFarland.

Lisa McClain Taylor
(Died November 3, 2011)
Mrs. Lisa Ann McClain Taylor, age 47, died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home. The funeral will follow in the Chapel at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Unity cemetery.
Lisa was a homemaker and her children were her life. She enjoyed swimming and the beach.
Surviving are her husband, Mike Taylor; her children, Lacey Hanna Taylor and Michael Dylan Taylor of the home; her adoptive father, Barry Faile; her mother-in-law, Shelia Taylor; her adoptive brother, Sid Faile of Fort Mill; her adoptive sister, Sharon Faile of Fort Mill. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Ann Holt McClain; sister, Audrey Jane McClain; her grandfather, Sidney O. Holt; her grandmother, Eva D. Holt; and her adoptive mother, Jessie H. Faile.

Anna Mengel Benedict
(Died November 5, 2011)
Mrs. Anna Mary Mengel Benedict, age 75 of Fort Mill, died Saturday, November 5 2011, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Unity Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Unity Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, with the Rev. Jeannie Bickett officiating.
born in Sandtown, N.J., Mrs. Benedict was a daughter of the late William Ezra Mengel Jr. and Verna Elizabeth Clark Mengel. She was a former dispatcher for Pemberton Township, N.J. and the Mt. Laurel, N.J. Police Department. Mrs. Benedict was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church. She was the "Best Mom". Mrs. Benedict volunteered at an Alzheimer's Clinic in Boynton Beach, Fla. She volunteered at the Fort Mill Care Center and also volunteered and was a reader at the Fort Mill Elementary School.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Benedict (Joanne) of Mt. Holly, N.J. and Michael Benedict (Barbara) of Fort Mill, S.C.; her daughter, Beverly A. Benedict Arriaga (Joseph) of Eastampton, N.J.; her brother, William "Bill" Mengel (Linda) of Locust Fork, Ala.; her sister, Betty R. Wilmerton (Harold) of Titusville, Fla.; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Robert Massey

Mr. Robert L. Massey, age 78, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at his home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Hunsucker officiating. Burial will be at Unity cemetery.
born in Fort Mill, Mr. Massey was a son of the late Tanzell and Jessie Helms Massey. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Eli Bailes American Legion Post 43 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9138. Mr. Massey was a member of the Catawba Masonic Lodge No. 56. He was retired from Celanese and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Doris Broome Massey; two daughters, Carolyn Worley of Fort Mill and Cindy Massey of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two stepsisters, Ruby Catoe and Christine Caston, both of Fort Mill; two grandchildren, Rebecca Banks and her husband, Mac, and Carrie Worley; and his great-granddaughter, Savannah Worley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry L. Massey.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Dr. Frank Holloway
(Died November 9, 2011)

Dr. Frank LeRoy Holloway, age 91 of Tega Cay, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Westminster Health Care in Rock Hill.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Bible Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Parrish officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall
born in Murphysboro, Illinois, Dr. Holloway was the only child born to the late Frank Irwin Holloway and Helen Eck Holloway. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Yorktown Association in Charleston. Dr. Holloway graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1942 and received his PhD from the University of Chicago in Physical Organic Chemistry in 1950. He was retired from Allied Chemical. Dr. Holloway was a volunteer fireman for the Tega Cay Fire Department and was a member of the Tega Cay Lions Club. He was a photographer, and the author of two published books, Rine's Universal Rules for Man, Money, and Molecules; and Bigger Bridges for Better Education.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Alice Louise Cochran Holloway; his son, Randall Holloway and his wife, Carol, of Fort Mill; his granddaughter, Allison Kinard and her husband, Sean; his great-granddaughter, Brenna; and two step-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tega Cay Fire Department, 7200 Tega Cay Dr., Tega Cay, SC 29708.

Victor Fred Towery
(Died November 13, 2011)

Mr. Victor Towery, age 64 of Rock Hill, died Sunday, November 13, 2011, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Caruso officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
born in Gastonia, N.C., Mr. Towery was a son of the late Fred Bobo Towery and Phyllis Beam Towery. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War. Mr. Towery was retired from Armstrong and Valmet/Metso.
Surviving are his wife, Kitty McCarter Towery; his son, Victor Bo Towery of Clover; two daughters, Wendy Towery Snipes of Clover and Kim Towery Messer, both of Clover; two stepdaughters, Teresa McCarter Barton of Clover and Dawn McCarter Rogers of Catawba; three brothers, Joe Towery and twins, Jerry Towery of Fort Mill and Terry Towery of York; his sister, Sherron T. Barrett of Fort Mill; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Betty Sutton Patterson
(Died November 14, 2011)
Mrs. Betty Sutton Patterson, age 82, died Monday, November 14, 2011, at the home of her son, Eddy and Kathy Patterson.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Wolfe Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Lee Dye officiating. Burial will be at Unity cemetery.
born in Lancaster, Mrs. Patterson was a daughter of the late William "Bub" Sutton, Sr. and Maggie Warlick Sutton. She graduated from Fort Mill High School. Mrs. Patterson was the owner of Betty's Beauty Shop on Main Street for many years and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her son, Eddy Patterson and his wife, Kathy, of Rock Hill; her daughter, Sally Pangle and her husband, Don, of Fort Mill; her sisters, Sherly Pearson, Carol Shealy and Linda Maxey; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady “Pete” Owen Patterson (1986); and her siblings, W.E. Sutton, Jr., Lynwood Sutton, Edward Sutton, Odell Sutton and Laphene Garrison.
