DUE WEST — Jack J. Davis, 99, of 22 Depot St., husband of Sara White Davis, died Sept. 18, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William H. and Tecora Elgin Davis. He retired from Huggins Shirt Plant and was a member of Due West Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Carroll Davis of Hodges and Johnny Davis of Due West; a daughter, Rachel Davis of Due West; a sister, Ruth Farmer of Greer; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 3 Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville, by the Revs. J.R. Alewine, Porter L. Stackhouse and Jimmy Tucker. Burial is in Due West Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers are J.W. Farmer, Jimmy Freeman, Billy Davis, Len Clement, Bobby White and Billy White.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

DUE WEST — Helen Lois Moore Hall, 82, of 1049 Winona Church Road, widow of James W. Hall, died Sept. 17, 2001, at her home.
born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Betty Walker Moore. Retired from Erskine College, she was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church and a member of the Anita Alewine Sunday School Class.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Hall, Wayne Hall and Terry Hall, all of Due West; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Pauline) Stone of Due West; a brother, Henry “Jiggs” Moore of Iva; a sister, Mrs. Francis (Bonnie) Latham of Anderson; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 3 Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Revs. Jimmy Tucker and Tony Tilly. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Winona Baptist Church cemetery.

GREENWOOD — Julia Alice “Mema” Hastings, 57, of 405 Stevens St., died Sept. 18, 2001, at her home.
born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Calvin A. and Lillie Bell Hollingsworth Hastings. She retired from Grimes-Aerospace and was a member of New Market Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Stephen Turner of Greenwood, Scott Hastings of the home and Martin Navarro of Laurens; two daughters, April Navarro of Laurens and Kelley Turner of Greenwood; a sister, Joan Lambert of Fountain Inn; a brother, J.C. “Jimmy” Hastings of Clinton; and four grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Harley Funeral Home by the Revs. John Hughey and Craig Hughes. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Danny Harvley, Perry Huff, Don Price, Ruebin Holder, Phillip Holder and Fred Eastwood.

GREENWOOD — James Gary Richey, 54, of 123 Timberwood Road, died Sept. 18, 2001, at his home. born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Margaret LeCroy Boswell and the late William Ralph Richey. He was a 1965 Greenwood High School graduate and owner of Gary Richey Motors. A member of Augusta Highway Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Certified Independent Dealers Association.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, the Rev. Curtis C. Boswell, of Greenwood; two daughters, Kelly R. Harrison and Jodie Richey, both of Greenwood; a son, Scott Richey of Greenwood; a sister, Tami R. Moon of Greenwood; three brothers, Timothy Richey of Calhoun Falls, Michael Richey of Greenwood and Chuck Boswell of Ninety Six; and two grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 3 Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home by the Revs. Craig Hughes and Buddy Wiles. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.

LIBERTY — Edgar Claudie Stewart, 85, of Countryside Park, formerly of Ruhamah Road, widower of Florence Lanaw Ray Stewart, died Sept. 18, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital.
born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Mack Luther and Lillie Simmons Stewart. He retired from Singer Corp. in 1981 and had worked at Abney Mills, Brandon Plant, for more than 20 years. He was a member of Liberty Lodge 235 A.F.M. and was of the Wesleyan faith.
Survivors include a son, Mecal R. Stewart of Liberty; four daughters, Peggy Jo Hughes of Liberty, Mrs. Carroll (Louise) Powell of Greenwood and Elaine S. Medlin and Mrs. Gerald (Adrie S.) Wyatt, both of Easley; a brother, Roy Stewart of Valparaiso, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Lorene) King of Liberty and Mildred Goodnough of Simpsonville; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

McCORMICK - Azilee Mayson Whatley, 83, former resident of 307 Cherry Street, widow of James Wilber Whatley, died September 18, 2001 at Forest View Manor.
born in Edgefield County, July 28, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Milton Spann and Frances Seigler Mayson. She was a Past Matron of the Eastern Star and was a member of McCormick United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Lavinia Adams of McCormick and a brother, Elbert Mayson of Belvedere, SC. Three grandchildren, Sam Whatley and Russell Whatley, both of Jack-sonville, FL and Ali Whatley of McCormick and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at McCormick United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Clen-daniel officiating.
Burial will be in Overbrook cemetery.

Mae LaVerne Harty-Beck, age 75 of Southwood died Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
born July 30, 1928 in Rector, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Hester Belle Reagan Whitlock. LaVerne Harty-Beck was a member of the Indian Trail Church of Christ in Aurora, IL and Grand Strand Church of Christ. She had been the owner of LaVerne’s Touch of Velvet in Aurora, IL. She enjoyed gardening and was preceded in death in 2001 by her husband, William Beck; one brother and two sisters.
Surviving are son, Steve Harty of Marion, Iowa; daughter, Sue B. Murphy and husband, John of Orion, MI; grandchildren, Lanette Simonsen of Anderson, IN and Crystal L. Woolard of Fishers, IN; great grandchildren, Hilary and Eric Hess; sisters, Nareene Wells of Tulsa, OK, Norma Gresham of Plano, TX and Billie Lemon of Cary, NC and her dog, Lady Linn.
Funeral services will be 11:00., Friday at Grand Strand Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Hillcrest cemetery.

Bonnie Beaver Stevens, age 51, wife of Winston Paul Stevens, of Hwy 545, died Monday, September 1, 2003 at Loris Community Hospital.
Mrs. Stevens was born in Horry County, SC, a daughter of the late Luther and Ruby Graham Beaver.
Surviving in addition to her husband of Conway are one son, Winston Clay Stevens of Conway; two daughters, Heather Stevens White and her husband Will of Myrtle Beach and Kristie Stevens Trout and her husband David of Conway; one step-son, Scottie Stevens of Greensboro, NC; one step-daughter, Karen Stevens Cox of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Wanda Skipper and Carolyn Collins both of Summerville, SC; three grandchildren, Dalton Trout of Conway, Karlee Stevens of Philadelphia, PA and Brittany Cox of Longs.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, with Edwin Strickland and Rev. Earl Elvis officiating. Burial will follow at Stevens cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

George L. Petrie, age 86 of Jensen’s Village died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at his home.
born April 11, 1917 in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of the late George and Bertha Petrie. Mr. Petrie was a graduate of Syracuse University and was a World War II, US Army veteran serving in the medical corp. He had retired as Vice President of Corporate Planning with R.E. Dietz Co. in Syracuse after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Syracuse.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Vercrouse Petrie; son, George L. Petrie, II of Essex, CT; step sons, Joseph Grosso of Garden City Beach, Daniel Grosso of Liverpool, NY, Steven Grosso of Tampa, FL and Andrew Grosso of Clay, NY; grandchildren, Michael Petrie of W. Hartford, MA, Jennifer, Lauren and Kristen Petrie all of Huntington, NY, Stephanie and Laura Grosso of Tampa, FL, Katie and Sarah Grosso of Liverpool, NY and Joseph Grosso of Syracuse, NY.
