WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ruth V. Dye Gadson, widow of Nathaniel Gadson Sr., died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in Washington, D.C.
born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Wiley and Rebecca Cade Dye. She was a member of the Church of Incarnation.
Survivors include two sons, Nathaniel Gadson Jr. of Accokeek, Md., and Francis Gadson of Washington, D.C.; four daughters, Katherine Odum, Barbara Gadson, Lawanda Gadson and Barnedette Harrison, all of Maryland; a brother, Ernest Dye of Greenwood; three sisters, Annie Lou Scott of Washington, D.C., Naomi Cannady of McCormick and Opal Dye Kelly of Augusta, Ga.; a granddaughter reared in the home, Nicole Gadson of Washington, D.C.; eight other grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services and burial are Friday in Washington, D.C.

McCORMICK — George Arthur Read, 64, of 239 Fairway Drive, Savannah Lakes Village, husband of Eleanor Jean Frasier Read, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood.
born in Queens, N.Y., he was a son of the late George and Mary Hartnett Read. He was the retired owner of General Sign Co., New York and a member of St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, Middle Village, N.Y., and the New York National Guard. He had lived in McCormick for two years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Thomas George Read of Novi, Mich., and James Douglas Read of Massapequa, N.Y.; a daughter, Linda Jean MacDougall of Charleston; three sisters, Bertha Piper of Queens, Lillian Kaplan of Babylon, N.Y., and Mildred Munck of Texas; and five grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Republican United Methodist Church by Samuel George III. Burial is in Overbrook cemetery.

McCORMICK — Albert Sherard, 79, husband of Louise Patterson Sherard, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late George and Carrie Sherard. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in McCormick, a World War II Army veteran and retiree of Chevrolet Motor Co., Buffalo, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife of the home; and five sisters, Anna Williams of Evanston, Ill., Florence Peterson of Abbeville and Carrie Sherard, Eddie Lee Gray and Jessie Sherard, all of Atlanta.
The family is at the home on Cedar Hill Road.

GREENWOOD — Stephen Eugene Snodgrass, 52, of 205 Glendale Ave., husband of Jane Pulley Snodgrass, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at his home.
born in Charleston, W.Va., he was a son of the late Eugene and Margaret Snodgrass. He was employed by A.M.C. (formerly Grimes Aerospace) and was a member of North Side Baptist Church and the Ambassadors Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Melissa Snodgrass and Tracey Snodgrass, both of Greenwood; and two sisters, Nancy Bell of New Orleans and Linda Peacock of Jacksonville, Fla.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens by Dr. Jeff Lethco.
Visitation is at Harley Funeral Home from 7-9 tonight.

Rusty Tuck
WAXHAW, N.C. — Russell Scott “Rusty” Tuck, 38, of 4608 Ferguson Circle, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at his home.
born in Goldsboro, he was a son of Rita Hart Tuck and the late Ronald Kermit “Buddy” Tuck. He graduated from Greenwood High School, Greenwood, where he was a member of the Junior R.O.T.C. program and received marksmanship honors on the rifle team. Graduating from Clemson University in 1984 with a bachelor of science degree in computer technology, he was a self-employed computer analyst and was employed by Learning Dynamics of Charlotte. He served as Red Cross Disaster Coordinator for Lancaster, S.C., and on the Lancaster Red Cross Board of Directors. He was a member and former deacon of Cedar Springs Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church near Verdery, S.C., and an amateur radio operator.
Survivors include his mother of Abbeville; a brother, Robert K. Tuck of Warner Robins, Ga.; and two sisters, Cyndi T. Ward of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Susan Tuck of Minneapolis.
Services will be conducted at 3 Friday at Cedar Springs Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church by Dr. Loyd Melton. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are Barry Rambo, Bennie Rambo, Gary Miller, George McKinney, James Lagrone and John Snipes.
Honorary escorts are elders and deacons of the church, along with Mark Watson.

born in Defiance, Ohio, he was a retired dentist and a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas J. Winkler of Lima, Ohio; two daughters, Anne Katzer of Chester, N.J., and Jean Coburn-Reed, Salt Lake City; and four grandchildren.

ABBEVILLE — Grace Martin Brown, 91, of 83 Thompson Circle, widow of Oscar Edward Brown, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late William S. and Maggie Finley Martin. She retired from Milliken Mills with 45 years of service. She was a member of Abbeville Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include a son, James Brown of Chester; a daughter, Betty Fuller of Abbeville; a sister, Eunice Ouzts of Edgefield; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 3 today at Harris Funeral Home by the Revs. Ray Massey and George Long. Burial is in Long Cane cemetery.

born in Greenwood County, S.C., he was a son of the late Jake and Mary Butler. He was a member of Pine Pleasant Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and a member of the Son of Aide.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruby Sanders of Philadelphia; a son, Louden Butler Jr. of Ninety Six, S.C.; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

born in McCormick County, he was a son of the late John M. and Annie Ruth Quarles Chiles. He was a member of Marshall Chapel Baptist Church and retired from Greenwood Packing Co.
Survivors include three daughters, Eartha Dandy of Hodges and Emma Mae Wright and Johnnie Mae Chiles, both of Greenwood; two brothers, Willie Clarence Chiles and Rufus Chiles, both of McCormick; four sisters, Corrie Lou Chiles of McCormick, Roberta Williams of Callison, Wyonia Williams of Greenwood and Pecoila Hines of El Paso, Texas; and five grandchildren.
