WARE SHOALS — Mary Jane Morris Hall, 89, widow of James Hall, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Edgefield Health Care Center.
born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Mounty and Phoebe Hall Morris. She was a homemaker, and she attended Sharon Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Estelle Burkette of Ware Shoals; seven grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Parker-White Funeral Home by the Rev. Calvin Branch. Burial is in Ware Shoals cemetery.
Pallbearers are Edward Burkette, David Burkette, Roy Burkette, Ronald Davenport, Steve Hammonds and Waron Sullivan.
The family is at the home of a granddaughter, Carrie B. Cole, Martin Road, Ware Shoals.

HODGES — Mattie Moragne, of 108 Coates Lane, widow of Moses Moragne, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood.
born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Alice Elliott Caldwell.
She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
Services will be conducted at 2 Friday at Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home by the Rev. Oscar Caldwell. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.

ABBEVILLE — Services for Christopher Alexander Morton Sr., of 55 Deer Run, will be conducted at 1 Friday at Long Cane A.M.E. Church by the Revs. A.R. Kollock Sr., Wayman Coleman III, Carnell Morton and Derrick Scott and Brother Kenneth Aiken. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in the church cemetery.

CLINTON — Calhoun Rice, 51, of 1018 Bonds St., husband of Sarah McGowan Rice, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at his home.
A son of Savannah Fuller Rice and the late Johnny Larks, he was a former member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Waterloo, and an employee of Simmons & Weir Construction Co.
Survivors include his wife of Clinton; his mother of Laurens; a brother, Freddie Rice of Waterloo; five sisters, Ethel Mae Cunningham of Clinton, Gracie Grant and Issie “Sue” Mansel, both of Ware Shoals, Annie Mae Richardson and Wynita Jackson, both of Laurens.
Services will be conducted at 2 Sunday by the Rev. Herbert Glenn, pastor, at Laurel Hill Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.

ABBEVILLE — Harriett Wingfield Simmons, 89, of 103 Abbeville Ave., widow of Willie C. Simmons Sr., died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood.
born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Mateal Patton Wingfield. She was a retired teacher in the Abbeville School District and a member of St. James A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Louis Simmons and Willie Charles Simmons Jr., both of Abbeville; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of a son, Robert Louis Simmons, 103 Abbeville Ave.

born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Powness Boozer Blocker Watson. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Greenwood County. She was a housewife.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Moore and Tamie Odle, both of E. Elmhurst; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 11 Tuesday at the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. R.C. Oglesby.

NINETY SIX — Thomas Andrew Turner, 75, of 101 Pine Drive, Greenwood Shores, widower of Edna Clark Turner, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late Robert Johnson and Robbye Curtis Turner. He was a graduate of Ninety Six High School and the College of Commerce and attended Erskine College. He was retired from the insurance industry and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and Joe Brehmer’s Sunday School Class.
Surviving is a sister, Dorothy Turner Thomason of Ninety Six.
A memorial service is at 2 Tuesday at Siloam Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steven Crittendon.

Survivors include three sons, Amory Barrett and Wilburn Barrett, both of Nicholson, Ga. and Virgil Barrett of Greenwood; two daughters, Syble Beck of Nicholson and Rachel Roberts of Homer, Ga.; a sister, Vernlene Wiley of Commerce, Ga. and 19 grandchildren.

born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late T.J. and Laura Briggs Anderson. She was a retired teacher and counselor with Greenwood School District 50, where she taught at Northside and Emerald Junior High Schools. She was a member of the Greenwood Woman’s Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Retired Teachers Association, the Phelea Study Club, Circle 8 and the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Sago of Greenwood and two grandchildren, Lynette Sago and Denny Sago, both of the home.
A memorial service is at 2 Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. John Wall. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

GREENWOOD — Nell King McFerrin, 79, resident of 1203 Ninety Six Highway, widow of James W. McFerrin died November 10, 2001 at the Self Regional Health Care in Greenwood.
born in Oates, SC May 29, 1922, she was a daughter of the late George D. and Alma Munn King. She was a graduate of Lamar High School and the Greenwood College of Commerce. Mrs. McFerrin retired from the office of Dr. W.R. Ameen after 17 years service.
A member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church and the Maybelle Coleman Sunday School Class, she was also a former member of the church choir and a former Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Anne M. Burriss and Roger Burriss of Greenwood, two sisters, Mary K. Blackmon of Timmonsville and Gracie K. Blanton of Natchez, Mississippi. Two grandchildren, Kristi Burriss and Roger Burriss, Jr., both of Greenwood.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. J. Scott Cloninger and Rev. Harvey Peurifoy officiating. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home.
