Sandra Browning McTeer, ex-Miss S.C., dies
COLUMBIA — Sandra Browning McTeer, a vivacious beauty who advanced her “Miss Greenwood High” title to a “Miss South Carolina” crown in 1960, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001.
She was also “Miss Greenwood” and among the 10 finalists for “Miss America” while representing her state.
McTeer, 60, was the wife of Thomas B. McTeer Jr., and daughter of the late Edith Metts Browning and Cecil O. Browning, a retired executive of Greenwood Mills.
born in Greenwood, she was a product of Greenwood High where she was a cheerleader, and a graduate of Columbia College. She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of Columbia; her father of Greenwood; three daughters, Mrs. John (Lisa) Taylor of Florence, Mrs. Mac (Ashley) Love of Columbia and Mrs. Barnie (Meredith) Smith of Columbia; a sister, Mrs. Peter (Joan) Sanders of Hilton Head; and six grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 Wednesday at Shandon United Methodist Church by the Revs. Michael Guffie Sr. and Patricia Warden. Burial is in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home on Devine Street.

Mary Chandler
TROY — Mary Robinson Chandler, 86, of 682 Old Goldmine Road, widow of Broadus Louden Chandler, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Magnolia Manor.
born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Joe P. and Essie Shirley Robinson. She graduated from Greenwood High School and retired from Wharton’s. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ninety Six and the TEL Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Chandler, and a daughter, Mrs. Jasper (Jane) Rush, both of Troy; two sisters, Mrs. Carroll (Virginia) Ouzts of Greenwood and Mrs. Langdon (Hazel) Rhodes of Ninety Six; three brothers, Joe Robinson of Troy, Lanier Robinson of Anderson and Harold Robinson of Greenwood; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 3 today at Blyth Funeral Home by the Rev. Robin Fisher. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Jerry Jones, Johnny Rhodes, Stan Robinson, Hal Robinson, Greg Hicks, Russell Johnson, Wayne Jones, Gerald Robinson and Barry Robinson.
Visitation is from 2-3 today at the funeral home.

NINETY SIX — Marie Wrenn Devore, 80, formerly of 5506 Highway 178 S., died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001.

Stella M. Huskey
COWPENS — Stella Mae Harris Huskey, 97, of 440 McGraw Road, widow of Lee Onimus Huskey, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Camp Care Nursing Home in Inman.
born in Cleveland County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Annie Humphries Harris. A seamstress and a homemaker, she was the oldest member of Casey Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Elder Mothers Sunday School Class.
Survivors include a daughter, Alpha Brown of Greenville; two sons, Farrell Huskey of Greenwood and Leonard Huskey of Boiling Springs; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Casey Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary Adkins, the Rev. Claude White and Mr. Kenneth Williams. Burial is in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Eggers Funeral Home, Chesnee.

DETROIT — Jesse Willard Leverett, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at a local hospital.
born in Lincolnton, Ga., he was a son of the late Charles and Ollie Leverett Robinson. He was a retired truck driver and a former member of Little River Baptist Church, Ware Shoals.
Survivors include four sons, Billy Joe Leverett of Pittsburgh, Jessie Leverett Jr. of Abbeville and Russell Leverett and Vincent Leverett, both of Ware Shoals; four daughters, Laverne Leverett, Anjenet Leverett, Rose Leverett and Sabrina Leverett, all of Ware Shoals; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be in Detroit.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Vera Alice McBride Skeen, 88, of 304 W. Parkway, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001.
born in Patrick County, Va., she lived most of her life in High Point, retired from Slane Hosiery Mill and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was first married
to the late Harry Pierce, and second to the late Britt Skeen.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan P. Throckmorton of Winston-Salem; two sons, Michael D. Pierce of High Point and Roger Skeen of Greenwood; a sister, Amelia Wilson of Carolina Beach; two brothers, Kabel McBride and Dempsey McBride; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 Wednesday in Floral Garden Park cemetery, by the Rev. Dr. William A. Slater.
Visitation is from 12:30-1:30 Wednesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, which is in charge.
Dannie E. Baldwin
SIMPSONVILLE — Dannie Edward Baldwin, 50, of 102 Deer Run Court died September 29, 2001 at Hillcrest Hospital in Simpsonville. He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and was injured in 1974 while serving in the US Navy.
He is survived by his mother Iris Baldwin, of Simpsonville, who lovingly and carefully took care of him in her home for the past 28 years.
He is survived by his father Edward Baldwin and stepmother Ruby Baldwin of Simpsonville, a brother Jerry Baldwin, nephew Jarrod Baldwin, and a niece “His Little Lady” Leigh Baldwin all of Simpsonville.
Funeral services 3:30 pm Monday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Neil Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.
The body is at Parker-White Funeral Home in Ware Shoals where the family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm.

ABBEVILLE — Services for Landrew Collier will be at 2 Tuesday at Haigler Street Church of Christ, conducted by Raymond Pressley. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Garden. The body will be placed in the church at 1.

GREENWOOD — Arnold “Junior” Fisher Jr., 76, of 213 Cambridge Apartments, husband of Mamie L. Fisher, died Sept. 30, 2001, at National Health Care.
born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Arnold Fisher Sr. and the late Cessie Mae Fisher Robinson. He was retired from Satterfield Construction Co. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Greenwood; 1 son, Dexter Lee Fisher of Athens, Ga.; 1 brother, Manuel Robinson of Greenville; five sisters, Mrs. Booker T. (Annie Laura) Sanders, Mrs. Sammie (Esther M.) Cooper, Mrs. Fleming (Lizzie) Ervin, all of Greenwood; Mrs. B.J. (Estelle) Mathis and Helen Parks, both of Greenville and one grandson.
The family is at the homes of his sisters, Mrs. Booker T. Sanders, 110 Addison Street and Mrs. Sammie Cooper, 313 Baptist Ave.

Daniel Hammett
COLUMBUS, Ga. — James Daniel Hammett, 86, of Columbus, Georgia, formerly of Greenwood, SC passed away on Friday evening, September 28, 2001 at his home. He was a resident of Covenant Woods in Columbus, Georgia.
born in Spartanburg, SC, July 28, 1915, he was a son of the late Clara Daniel Hammett and Bratton Alvin Hammett. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Nell Lowe Hammett.
Mr. Hammett was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbus, he was a former member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Greenwood. He was also a member of Mathews Masonic Lodge # 358. He retired in 1981 as Director of Purchasing for Greenwood Mills after 51 years of service.
He is survived by two daughters, Dannie Andrews and husband Wayne of Columbus, GA and Jane White and husband John of Kenansville, NC and Mexico City, Mexico. In addition, Mr. Hammett is survived by three grandchildren, Elizabeth Graham and husband Garry of Columbus, Russell Andrews, of Columbus, and David Andrews of Carrboro, NC.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be James Owings, Tripp Owings, Bill Adams, Joe Hammett, David Andrews, and Garry Graham.
Honorary escort will be Walter Roark, Jr., Warren C Schulze, Jesse Herin, Billy Martin and Ron Massey.
The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 Tuesday morning.
