ANTREVILLE — Roy Elbert “R.E.” Driver, 65, of 188 Keowee Road, husband of Hazel Phillips Driver, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at his home. born in Hart County, Ga., he was a son of the late George Edgar and Nancy Leona Bruce Driver. He was a retired truck driver and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Charles Carey Driver and Darrell Shane Driver, both of Abbeville, Danny L. Driver of Anderson and Donnie R. Johnson of Belton; three daughters, Nancy Elaine Fisher and Latoya Shammon Johnson, both of the home and Tina Lashannon Shuler of Antreville; two brothers, Kenneth Driver of Antreville and Larry Driver of Santa Fe, Texas; three sisters, Faye D. Helton of Hartwell, Ga., Lynda Schall of Simpsonville and Donna Davenport of Pickens; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 3 Sunday at Midway Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Moore. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville.

GREENWOOD — Charlie Foggie, 87, of 111 S. Ames St., husband of Evangelist Ruth Foggie, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at the National Health Care Center. Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, Greenwood, which is in charge.
James A. Gilchrist
PLUM BRANCH — James A. Gilchrist, 63, formerly of Plum Branch, died at the Wesley Commons Nursing Center in Greenwood.
born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Fred and Hattie Brunson Gilchrist. He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church and a retired logger.
Survivors include a son, Walter Jennings of Lincolnton, Ga.; three sisters, Mabel Harrison of McCormick, Mattie Chiles of Pittsburgh and Fannie Williams of Ninety Six; four brothers, Johnny Gilchrist of McCormick, George Gilchrist of Washington, D.C., Robert Gilchrist of Richmond, Va., and Tommy Gilchrist of Maxton, N.C.; his stepmother, Mary Blair Gilchrist of McCormick; and a stepsister, Wanda Gilchrist of McCormick.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 Sunday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church by the Revs. W.H. McCain, J.C. Williams and R.C. Holloway. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews, and flower bearers are nieces.

Elizabeth McCord
HODGES - Elizabeth Pettigrew McCord, 87, resident of 4302 Moorefield Street and Frampton Hall in Clinton, widow of Hugh C. McCord, Sr., died October 4, 2001 at the Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken.
born in Abbeville, March 24, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Dr. J.C. and Mary Syfan Pettigrew. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Winthrop College and her Master's Degree from Clemson University. An educator, Mrs. McCord taught in Green-wood School District #50 and at Dixie High School in Due West. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Moore's Chevrolet in Greenwood.
She was an active member of Hodges Presbyterian Church where she was elected the first female Elder and had participated in many clubs and activities including a study club, the forestry association, garden and book clubs and activities of her church and Presbytery.
Surviving are three children and their families, her son, Dr. Hugh C. 'Mac' McCord, Jr. and wife, Mary Amelia of Anderson, their children, son, Thad and wife, Leanna and their children, Kelly, Douglas and Angus; daughter, Beth Ginn and husband Andrew and their children, Andrew and Katherine; Mrs. McCord's second child, James H. 'Jim' McCord and wife, Margaret of Charleston and their daughters, Holly and husband, Reid Sisson and Katie and husband Peter Schindler. The third child, Jane and Dr. David S. Keisler, Jr. of Aiken and their daughters, Cam and Sara. A surviving brother, James C. Pettigrew of Beaufort; a sister, Mildred Kinghorn from Beaufort predeceased her in death.
Graveside services will be conducted 1:30 Sunday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Robert Piephoff officiating.
Memorial services will be conducted 3:30 Sunday at Frampton Hall in Clinton with Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins officiating.

GREENWOOD — Maxie Balchin McDonald, 66, of 2511 Montague Ave., wife of Charles K. McDonald, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital. born in Elberton, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George and Jewel Frost Balchin. She graduated from Abbeville High School and the Greenwood College of Commerce and retired as secretary at Hodges Elementary School. She was a member of Emerald Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Jo Etta) Cain and Mrs. Bill (Amie) Faulkner, both of Greenwood; a son, Charles K. McDonald Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, George “Buddy” Balchin of Greenwood; four sisters, Mrs. Tony (Flonnie) Shaw of Spartanburg, Mrs. Melvin (Doris) Ashley and Mrs. Sloan (Billie) Wilson, both of Honea Path and Mrs. Wallace (Sara Jo) Nichols of Union; and nine grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 3 Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home by the Revs. Herman Bradley, Curt Eidson, Dean Webb and Jason Webb. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late John Larkin and Elizabeth Hughes Pennington. He retired from Laurens Mill and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include a son, Woodrow Wilson Pennington Jr. of Dublin, Ga.; two daughters, Martha Barker of Greenwood and Mrs. Terry (Shirley) Bodie of Laurens; a sister, Velma Wilson of Clover; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

NINETY SIX — Richard Anthony Stamps, 38, of 4308 Highway 702, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at his home.
born in Greenwood, he was a son of William Mack Stamps Jr. and Peggy Jean Martin Stamps. He was owner of South Pointe Tire & Auto and a volunteer with the Lower Lake Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his parents of Greenwood and a stepbrother, Drew Scott of Greenwood.
Services will be conducted at 2 Sunday at Harley Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Reid. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Ranson Burton and Miriam Nichols Burton of Ninety Six SC. Mrs. Bell was an employee of Fountain Inn Warehouse and Transfer. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fountain Inn where she was a member of June Roper Sunday school Class and The Barry Group. She attended Anderson College.
Surviving in addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Allison Bell and Scott Timmons of Fountain Inn; one son, David Charles Bell of the home; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Betty and Ronnie Long of Greenwood; and Beverly Burton and Micheal Runyan also of Greenwood; Three brothers and sister-in-laws, Joseph R. and Charlene Burton of Munford, ALA; James S. Burton of Ninety Six, SC and Jeffrey and Karen Burton of Ninety Six, SC and a Mother-in-law, Louise B. and Paul Bentley of Fountain Inn; and Sister-in-law, Anne B. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Charles Foggie of Waterloo and Stanley Foggie of Greenwood; three daughters, Hester M. Williams of Bronx, N.Y., Bettye J. Foggie of Columbia and Pauline Anderson of Waterloo; one sister, Lula Bell Cunningham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 1 Tuesday at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Herbert E. Glenn, assisted by the Rev. George Dendy, evangelist Linda Cunningham, the Rev. J. Williams, the Rev. W.J. Key, the Rev. A.L. Brackett and the Rev. R.A. Pilgram. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12.

McCORMICK — Charlie Mae Wright Cade, 85, of Route 1, Box 142, widow of Fred Cade, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
born in Lincolnton, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Mamie Warren Wright. She retired from John de la Howe High School and was a member of Price’s Grove Baptist Church, Lincolnton.
Survivors include a sister, Marie Wright of Augusta, Ga.; a grandson reared in the home, Carlos Tostell of Calhoun Falls; three nieces and five nephews reared in the home, Mabell Norman of Hodges, Janice Boyd of Honea Path, Hazel Covington of Greenwood, Guilford A. Boyd of McCormick, Melvin Boyd and Michael Boyd, both of Abbeville; Staff Sgt. Guilford D. Boyd of Hephzibah, Ga., and Delanda Boyd of Greenwood.
