CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Helen Bobo Byrd, 84, of Carolina Meadows, formerly of 136 Ridgewood Circle, Greenwood, S.C., widow of Albert C. Byrd, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill.
born in Union County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William N. and Anna Bolt Bobo. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1934 and from Draughan’s Business College, Greenville, S.C. Retired from Chickasaw Processing Co., Greenwood, she was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, and a former member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Byrd of Durham and Sara Byrd Goldberg of Centreville, Va.; and two brothers, the Rev. P.B. Bobo of West Columbia, S.C., and William N. Bobo of Greenwood.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11a.m. Friday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Greenwood, S.C., by Dr. Carlton Allen and the Rev. Gloria Lightsey-Lewis.
A memorial service will be scheduled at Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, at a later date.
Visitation is at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, from 7-8 tonight and 9:30-10:30 Friday.

GREENWOOD — Charles Waymond “Suitcase” Haynie Sr., of 521 Circle Drive, husband of Margaret Sisk Haynie, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late John Waymond and Ruby Mae Alexander Haynie. He was an employee of Austin Industrial, Augusta, Ga., and a Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Charles W. “Skip” Haynie of Ninety Six and Michael E. Haynie of Greenwood; three daughters, Lisa Haynie Coker and Traci D. Haynie, both of Ninety Six and Tina M. Haynie of Greenwood; a sister, Patricia H. Skidmore of Greenwood; two brothers, Gary T. Haynie and Floyd T. Haynie, both of Greenwood; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Friday at Harley Funeral Home by the Rev. Billy Joe Reynolds. Burial is in Elmwood cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mark Mooney, Scotty Skidmore, Bobby Ledford, Rudy Skidmore, Keith Skidmore and Rusty Haynie.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

GREENWOOD - Timothy Adam "Speedy" Hollingsworth, 19, of 440 Burnett Road, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001.
born in Greenwood, he was a son of Ernest Hank Hollingsworth and Judy Dukes Hollingsworth. He was a member of Grendel Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Damascus Road Youth Group.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Chad Ernest Hollingsworth. Surviving is his mother of the home and his father of Bradley; maternal grandparents, Roy and Margaret Dukes of the home; paternal grandparents, Virginia Hollingsworth of Hodges and Ernest and Dot Hollingsworth of Greenwood and four brothers, Jason Seth Hollingsworth, Brent Earl Hollingsworth, Phillip Heath Hollingsworth, and Jimmy Hollingsworth, all of Greenwood.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grendel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. James Tollison and Pastor Shane Cox officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Derrick Jones, Scott Thornton, Joey Jamros, Bubba McBride, Nathan Nelson, and Monalis Angeladakis.
Honorary escort will be members of the Damascus Road Youth Group.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

NINETY SIX — Georgina Youvon Yater, 92, of 406 S. Cambridge Ave., died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at the home of a grandson in Ninety Six. born in Patton, Ala., she was a daughter of the late George Robert Burt and Mary Jane Laybourn Booth. She retired from the Budd Co. in Detroit and was a former member of the Lions Club Auxiliary in Hiawassee, Ga. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include nine grandchildren, one with whom she made her home, Raymond Robinson Jr.; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Friday at Blyth Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Crittendon. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

CALLISON - Betty Joyce Arnold Ard, 55, of 2326 County Line Road, wife of Jimmy Joe Ard, died October 18, 2001 at her home.
born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Frances Rush Arnold and the late R. Wilson Arnold. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired from Professional Medical Products. A lifelong member of Bold Springs Baptist Church, she was a member and soloist of the adult choir, a member and former president of the Women on Mission, a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, a teacher in the two and three year olds Sunday School Class, a volunteer in prison ministry at three correctional institutions, an honorary member of the Greenwood Writer's Guild, and a treasurer of The Federation of Families, an affiliate of The Greenwood Mental Health Association.
Survivors include her husband of the home; her mother of Callison; two daughters, Corrie P. Ard of Greer and Betty Jo Ard of the home; her sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl Agnew-Bell and Jess W. Bell of Greenwood; a niece, Tara Agnew of New York and nephew Travis Agnew of North Greenville College.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 PM at Bold Springs Baptist Church, Callison by the Rev. Chris Garrison and Rev. Bennie Ridlehoover. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be deacons and former deacons along with members of The Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Bold Springs Baptist Church. Honorary escort will be Bobby and Barbara Minor, James and Elsie Jackson, Roy Davis and Joyce Davis.

HODGES — Hazeleen Arnold, 86, of 104 Gregg Court, widow of the late Charlie Arnold, died Oct. 18, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Agnes Hunt Mansel. She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include eleven sons, Willie, David and Ellis Arnold, all of Greenville; Ellis and Izel Arnold, both of Hodges; Parker, Abney, Jimmy and Carl Arnold, all of Greenwood; Charles Arnold of Abbeville and Elbert Arnold of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five daughters, Ruby Arnold of the home, Susie Louden, Hazel Gilliam and Rosa Anderson, all of Greenwood and Linda Hemmings of Atlanta; two brothers, Frank Mansel of Orlando, Fla. and Joe Mansel of Ware Shoals; four sisters, Mary Morgan and Nettie Pressley of Greenwood; Jessie Lucille Mansel and Agnes Mansel, both of Orlando, Fla.; 41 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren.

HODGES — Jessie James Gantt, 70, of 1106 Miller Road, husband of Martha Gantt, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001 at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Sammy and Charlotte Gantt. He attended Greenwood public schools, was an Army Korean War veteran and a former employee of the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C. He worked at Riegel Textile Mill, Ware Shoals, and retired from Greenwood Packing Plant. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jessie James Gantt Jr. of the home; a daughter, C. Deborah Hill of Hodges; a niece, Vernell Arnold of the home; a brother, Alfred Gantt; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Macedonia C.M.E. Church by the Rev. Ida Shipman, assisted by the Rev. James Williams. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 10.
Pallbearers are friends of the family.

She was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she was a former member of the Senior Choir and the Missionary Society. She was also a former member of the Cottage Height Community Club. Survivors include a son, Odell Martin of Greenwood; two daughters, Bertha Jones of the home and Eloise Robinson of Greenwood; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family is at the home. Services will be conducted at 2 Sunday at Old Mount Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Clyde Cannon, pastor, assisted by the Revs. Dora Ann White, Nathaniel Byrd, Andy Robinson and the Rev. Ligon. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery. GREENWOOD — Claude E. Sims Jr., 80, of 808 Truett Ave., husband of Gladys Bishop Sims, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Claude E. Sr. and Alice Sisk Sims. He was a graduate of Fairforest High School in Spartanburg and was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Durst Plant as a carding superintendent and was a licensed commercial airline pilot. He was a member of Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club and attended the Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Sharon S. Golden of Newberry; a son, Jerry W. Sims of Columbia; a sister, Helen Juanita Glenn of Clinton; a brother, Rudolph Sims of Ninety Six; and five grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home by the Revs. Richard Martin and W.F. Rodriguez. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

AUGUSTA — Charles David Trotter, 61, of 1854 Starnes St., husband of Mary Ann Trotter, died Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta.
born in Warrenville, he was a son of Charles Wesley Trotter and the late Vada Mae Bledsoe. He was a Vietnam veteran with 21 years of military service.
Survivors include his wife; his father; a daughter, Barbara Diane Eubanks of Hodges; a son, Charles Allen Trotter of Hodges; a step-son, Timothy Still of Waynesboro; a brother, Donald Keith Trotter of Greenwood; and a grandson.
