Burial is in Oakbrook cemetery, McCormick.

SILVERSTREET – Daisy Mae Byrd Farrow, 51, of 22 Green Ace Road, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at her home.
born in Newberry, she was a daughter of Bessie Boston Farrow and the late Marvin Farrow Sr. She was a member of Scurry Springhill Baptist Church in Chappells.
Survivors include her mother of Silverstreet; a son, Taner Terrell Byrd of Silverstreet; a daughter, Mackenzie Venise Byrd of Silverstreet; four brothers, Marvin Farrow Jr. of Chappells; Tommie Gene Farrow, John Henry Farrow and Ossie B. Farrow, all of Silverstreet; five sisters, Roberta Farrow and Bessie Lee Farrow of Silverstreet, Mary Alice King of Greenwood, Loretta Settles of Edgefield and Mozetta Peterson of Chappells; and two grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Wilson Funeral Home in Newberry, which is in charge.

Mary Fortner Giles
FOUNTAIN INN — Mary Ella Fortner Giles, 76, formerly of Greenwood, widow of Roy M. Giles, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Fountain Inn Nursing Home.
born in Clinton, she was a daughter of the late J.C. “Clyde” and Genie Tinsley Fortner. She was retired from the Durst Plant of Greenwood Mills, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She was a member of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Panola Community Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Giles of Greenwood; three sisters, Carolyn Massey and Pat Still, both of Greenwood and Emily White of Greenville.
Services are at 11 Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Lawrence Johnson. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her sister, Carolyn Massey, 414 Bond St., Greenwood.

Willie Edward Jones
CROSS HILL — Miss Willie Edward Jones, 101, of 836 Will Jones Road, died Sunday, October 21, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Cross Hill on September 8, 1900; she was a daughter of the late Squire Dixon and Sarah Ward Jones. She was a 1917 graduate of Cross Hill.
She was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church, where she was honored for her 101st birthday. After her retirement, she dedicated her life to caring for invalids and those unable to care for themselves. She shared her abundant vegetables and gardens with many friends and neighbors.
On her 101st birthday, her family honored her with a dinner at Lee’s Barbeque for more than one hundred guests. She recently celebrated her 101st birthday at a party which also honored the first birthday of her great-great nephew Jake McAllister. She was predeceased by four sisters, an infant brother, and several nieces and nephews.
Surviving are nephews John Andrew McAllister, Sr. and Veron Jones Plyler; nieces Sarah B. Segars, and their families.
Services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday at Bethabara Baptist Church, Cross Hill, with the Rev. Edwin Quattlebaum officiating. Burial will follow at Soule Chapel cemetery.
Pallbearers will be great-nephews, John Andrew McAllister Jr., Thomas Edwin McAllister, Westley Darrell McAllister, Joseph Calhoun Watson, Ernest Boazman Segars, Donnie Jones Plyler, Rickey Eugene Plyler, and Edward Franklin Plyler.
Honorary escorts will be the men of Bethabara Baptist Church, Ethel Chumley, Virginia Hipp, Mary Sue Hill, Mildred Alverson, Judy Miller, Elizabeth Arant, Annie Miller, Jake Arant Sr., Jake Arant Jr., William Hollingsworth, Robert Hollingsworth, Ernie Austin, Robert Whiteford, Jack Iusti, Elvin Miller, Ernest Miller, Jimmy Sharpe, Perry Simpson, and Michael Fowler.

Alfred E. Whittle Jr.
GREENWOOD — Alfred E. Whittle Jr., 83, of Greenwood, formerly of Irwin, PA, died Saturday October 20, in Wesley Commons Health Care Center, Greenwood.
He was a retired supervisor for Westinghouse Electric Corp., East Pittsburgh, PA and a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army 78th Infantry Division. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood.
He is preceded in death by his son Alfred E. Whittle III. He is survived by his daughter in law Teresa A. Whittle, a granddaughter Beth Whittle Bell, a grandson Nathan D. Whittle and two great-grandsons Tucker G. and Dawson V. Bell all of Greenwood.

DONALDS — R.E. Hawthorne, 73, of 427 Mount Lebanon Road, widower of Martha Hawthorne, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.

Sara H. Jefferson
CLINTON - Sara H. Jefferson, age 72 formerly of Greenwood and the widow of W. C. Heaton died Friday, October 19th in the Laurens County Hospital. She was born in Anderson County and was a daughter of the late L. C. and Mattie Vee Floyd Heaton.
Mrs. Jefferson was retired from Clinton Mills Bailey Plant.
Surviving are her daughter, Judy R. Creswell of Laurens; two brothers, Clifton Heaton of Joanna, Freddie Heaton of Clinton; one sister, Barbara Fulbright of Laurens; three grandchildren, Todd Creswell, Shannon and Kristen Creswell, Lee Creswell and Matt Pennington and four great-grandchildren, Tee Tinsley, Sean, Talyor and Conner Creswell. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, October 21st at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The Family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

GREENWOOD — Ann Kinard Roberts, 74, of 321 Gatewood Drive 3-D, wife of Eugene Wallace “Buddy” Roberts, died Oct. 19, 2001, at Wesley Commons.
born in Ninety Six, she was a daughter of the late Dr. John Carroll and Lalla Byrd Kinard. She was 1944 graduate of Ninety Six High School and a 1948 graduate of Columbia College. She formerly taught in Union and Ninety Six public schools. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, the Palladian Study Club and the Ivy Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Eugene Wallace “Rob” Roberts III of Greenwood; two daughters, Ruth Carroll Roberts of Bluffton and Angela Roberts Baker of Greenwood; a sister, Ruth Byrd Waters of Tampa, Fla.; and a granddaughter.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 Sunday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Larry Jenkins.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

MOORE — Jack Hughston Rowell, 64, of 412 McFall Court, husband of Mary Ann Turner Rowell, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Gary Carlisle and Rona Parker Rowell. He retired from Hoechst Celenese. He was a member of Roebuck Baptist Church, Montgomery Masonic Lodge No. 362, and was also a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jack Hughston Rowell Jr. of Cowpens; a daughter, Bonita Rowell Hedrick of Moore; six sisters, Lanell Lowry of Spartanburg, Jill Lowe of Greenwood, Reta Gregory of Boiling Springs, Pamela Prince of Charlotte, Glenda McKeithan of Wilmington and Marsha Willingham of Chesnee; a brother, Gary C. Rowell Jr. of Greenwood; and two grandchildren.

born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Calvin Butler and Leamie Duffie Williams. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired from Sprint Telephone Company. She was a member of Laurel Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two daughters, Carolyn C. Massey of Abbeville and Virginia C. Shirley of Sumter; a son, John Andrew Cobb III of Greenwood; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 3 Monday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Ray Massey and the Rev. Todd Johnson.
Pallbearers are grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
