Lloyd Gibert
McCORMICK — Lloyd Rudolph Gibert, husband of Daisy Harris McKenzie Gibert, died at The Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, Ga., on Sept. 28, 2001.
born in Mt. Carmel, he was a son of the late John Austin Gibert and Hattie Holloway Gibert Jones. He was a member of Spring Grove Baptist Church and was retired from the Army after 27 years. He was also a retired yard maintenance contractor.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Jeffery Gibert, stationed in Korea; Lloyd Gibert Jr. of Alexandria, Va. and Keith Gibert of Fort Washington, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Alice Thomas of Sacramento, Calif.; two stepsons, Rodney Curry of McCormick and James Harris of Beacon, N.Y.; five stepdaughters, Gertrude Harris, Avis McKenzie and Linda McKenzie, all of McCormick; Joanie Calhoun of Abbeville and Julia Harris of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sisters, Thelma Jones of Mt. Carmel, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Griffin and Mrs. Hattie Mae Fabrycy, both of Chicago; three brothers, John Thomas Gibert of Antioch, Tenn., Wilbert Gibert of Buffalo, N.Y. and John Oliver Gibert of Evanston, Ill. and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home on Cedar Hill Road, McCormick.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, which is in charge.
Eddie Hamilton Jr.
ROOSEVELT, N.Y. — Eddie Hamilton Jr., 81, of 111 North Ames St., widower of Janie W. Hamilton, died Sept. 29, 2001 in Roosevelt, N.Y.
born in Kirksey, he was a son of the late Eddie and Ora Adam Hamilton. He was a former employee of Greenwood Mills-Mathews Plant. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, member of the Senior Choir, former Senior Usher Board, former Sunday School superintendent, Board Man of Union Third Division, member of NAACP and Lodge No. 37.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Hamilton of Greenwood and Barry Hamilton of West Hempstead, N.Y.; six daughters, Jannye Watson, Maglean Raiford, Barbara H. Covington, all of Greenwood, Doris Tidwell of Spartanburg, Ora Hunter of Roosevelt, N.Y. and Eddie Mae Kennedy of Babylon, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — James Daniel “Dan” Hammett, 86, of Covenant Woods and former resident of Greenwood, widower of Nell Lowe Hammett, died Sept. 29, 2001, at his home. Visitation is from 10-11 Tuesday morning at Blyth Funeral Home. Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.
‘Booster’ Jenkins
GREENWOOD — Audrey Lee “Booster” Jenkins, 67, of Laura Lane, Greenwood died Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Self-Memorial Hospital. He was born in Greenwood County, a son of the late John M. and Ida Minick Jenkins. He was retired from Riegel Textile Corp. and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Ware Shoals, S.C. Surviving are: his wife, Elizabeth Crawford Jenkins of Ware Shoals, SC, three daughters, Mary Jane Harris and Betty Haynes both of Ware Shoals, SC and Wanda Jones of Hodges, SC also, eleven grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Robert Emory officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Haynes, Doug Jones, Jamie Crawford, Wayne Harris, Chris Readen and Preston Crawford.
The families will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at Parker-White Funeral Home Monday, 10-11 AM.
Pruitt McWhorter
DUE WEST — James Pruitt McWhorter, 75, of 244 South Main St., husband of Barbara Erwin McWhorter, died Sept. 28, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Robert and Nettie Pruitt McWhorter. He was a WWII Army Veteran and retired as cloth room supervisor at Milliken after 43 years of service. He was a member of Little River Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son, Bobby McWhorter of Donalds; a daughter, Candy Lynn McWhorter of the home; a stepdaughter and a granddaughter.
Services are at 2 Sunday at Little River Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Fuller and the Rev. Donnie Murdock. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are Dickie Chrisley, Stacy Lumpkin, Truman Lumpkin, John Giles, Billy Ryan and Eddie Rollins.

Harper A. Norman
ABBEVILLE — Harper A. Norman of Abbeville, S.C., 307 McGowan Avenue went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 28, 2001 at the Carlisle Nursing Center in Due West, S.C.
He was the son of Alonzo Lawrence Norman and Grace Pardue Norman. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie Ashley Norman; two children, Dr. Michael Ashley Norman of Atlanta, GA and Andrea Norman Burriss of Belton, SC; four grandchildren, Dr. Michael Atkinson Norman of Houston, TX, David Ashley Norman of Ann Arbor, MI, Ellen Burriss Smith of Lowndesville, SC and James Mark Burriss of Belton, SC; and a sister, Grace Norman Ellenberg of Greenwood, SC. His sister, Lura Norman Ellenberg preceded him in death.
For fifty years he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville and a deacon (serving several times as Chairman), Sunday School Superintendent, Training Union Director, Church Clerk, Trustee and Sunday School Teacher.
He served three times as a trustee for Connie Maxwell Children’s Home and was named Trustee Emeritus by the Board of Trustees.
He was a member of the Development Committee for the Greenwood Methodist Home (now Wesley Commons) for over twenty years and also served as a trustee of that institution.
He was a Certified Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in the states of Georgia and South Carolina; a member of the S.C. Society of Engineers and a charter member of the American Textile Managerial Engineers Society.
His employment included: Assistant Engineer for the City of Greenwood; Plant Engineer for the Brunswick Shipyard in Brunswick, GA; City Engineer and City Manager in Brunswick; Engineer with J.E. Serrine Company, Engineers, Greenville; and Assistant Engineer and Director of Engineering for Abney Mills, Greenwood for over thirty years – before his retirement in 1983. During this time he was a member of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club.
The family invites relatives and friends to join them in a worship service of praise to God and in gratitude for Harper’s life on Sunday, September 30, 2001 at the First Baptist Church. Conducting the services will be his pastor, the Rev. Reiny Koschel, and former pastors, the Rev. Wayne Wiggins and the Rev. Ron Gaynor. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and the members of Baraca Sunday School Class. Active pallbearers will be Hugh Craft, Philip L. Ellenberg, James A. Hodge, Jr., Dewey Goin, William Devore, Don Reese, James S. Jones, Jr. and Mason Speer.
Friends will be received at 1:30 Sunday at the church. His body will be placed in the church sanctuary at that time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, Abbeville or Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, Greenwood.

Clarence Perry
CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Clarence Bell “C.B.” Perry, 95, of Leake Street, died Sept. 30, 2001.
born in Dawson County, Ga., he was a son of the late Thomas Jackson Perry and Missouri Angeline Anderson Perry. He attended Mercer University and the University of Georgia, was principal and basketball coach at Taylorsville School, was principal at Douglas Street Elementary School, was a teacher in the Bartow County and City of Cartersville school system; and was Superintendent of Bartow County Schools. He was owner and operator of the Cartersville Men’s Shop that opened in until 1972. He was a member of the Cartersville Lion’s Club and the Retired Men’s Club. He was an avid fisherman, a member of the First Baptist Church for more than sixty years and served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and usher.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ernest Young of Greenwood; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are at 3 today at the Owen Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Dr. Clark Hutchinson. Burial is in Oak Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bert Crane, Steve Owen, Harry White, Winfred McDaniel, Jimmy Long and Willard Summey.
Honorary pallbearers are Don Leveen, Gordon Timms, Woodrow Bradley, W.D. Fortenberry and Bobby Dye.

ABBEVILLE — Landrew Collier, 44, of 1640 Old Douglas Mill Road, died Sept. 27, 2001.
born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Ella Rollinson Collier and the late Anderson Collier. He was a member of Haigler Street Church of Christ, a graduate of Abbeville High School, a U.S. Army veteran, and an employee of Burnstein Precision Casting Corporation.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, William H. Jorden, of the home; a son, Landrew C. Collier of the home; a sister, Connie R. Martin of Anderson; a brother, Harold A. Rollinson of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

EDGEFIELD — James E. “J.E.” Timmerman, 81, of Highway 378 East, widower of Marjorie Elizabeth Collins Timmerman, died Sept. 28, 2001.
born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Edgar M. “Jim Ed” and Nora Harling Timmerman. He was a retired grocer and also retired from Edgefield County Hospital’s maintenance department. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion and McKendree United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, James Edgar Timmerman, Jr. of Powdersville; a sister, Martha Timmerman of Greenwood; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Graveside services will be at 4 Sunday at McKendree United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Jim Tippins and Timothy Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Jim Reeves, Chris Williams, Kenny Vines, Larry Brock, Tim Collins and Billy Wall.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 Saturday at Harley Funeral Home.
