Mary Perrin Searles
McCORMICK — Mary Perrin Searles, 77, of 1001 Hammond St., widow of Henry Morgan Searles, died Sept. 12, 2001, at her home.
A daughter of the late John and Willie Mae Lewis, she was a member of White Rock F.B.H. Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Elizabeth Hackett of Promised Land, Freda L. Parks of Lincolnton, Ga., Mary Hardy, Gertrude Searles, Shirley Searles and Jean Mursier, all of McCormick; five sons, Claude Searles, Elder Melvin Searles and James Searles, all of McCormick, John Searles of Morganfield, Ky., and Richard Searles of Woodbridge, Va.; a brother, James Perrin of McCormick; two sisters, Mamie Hackett of Promised Land and Ruth Dennis of McCormick; 32 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.

Jerry Vail
GREENWOOD — James T. “Jerry” Vail, 63, of 119 Lauren Circle, husband of Lynn Bollinger Vail, died Sept. 11, 2001 at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Salisbury, N.C., he was a son of the late Robert E. and Janie Ester Moore Vail. He graduated from Spencer High School, Spencer, N.C., and attended North Carolina State University. Retired from Monsanto (now Solutia) after 37 years of service, he was presently employed as a property manager for Uptown Property Management. He was a member of Emerald Baptist Church and the Home Builders Sunday School Class and was past president of the Lauren Circle Home Owners Association. He was also a volunteer tutor for Greenwood Regional Correctional Center and a counselor for Conquerors Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jeffery Thomas Vail of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Robert Scott Vail of Greenwood; two daughters, Kelly Vail Riddle of Greenwood and Mary Jane Vail of Columbia; a stepson, David Wells of Ninety Six; a stepdaughter, Mickie Hite of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Robert E. Vail of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Mary Jane V. Andrews of Pensacola, Fla.; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Saturday at Emerald Baptist Church by the Rev. Curtis Eidson and Tunny Blackmon, Charles Stone, Ken Mattison and Eddie Barfield.
Pallbearers are members of Home Builders Sunday School Class, along with Jerry Perkins, Gerald Duncan, Jerry Duncan, Robert McFadden, Sam Stevenson, Byron Jones, Ed Maruit, Charlie Herndon, Billy Burdette, Louie Rodgers, Jack Griffin, Preston Abrams, Danny Smith, Harold Collins, Tommy Calhoun, Joe Campbell, Jim Martin and Jeff Sargent.
Visitation is at Blyth Funeral Home from 7-9 Friday.

Louise Adams
SALUDA — Louise Chapman DeLoache Adams, 96, died Sept. 11, 2001.
born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Mose and Eva Cockrell Chapman. She was twice married
, first to the late Caleb Eugene DeLoache, and second to the late Clarence Adams. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Saluda Shirt Co. A member of Gassaway United Methodist Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader and Sunday School treasurer.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty D. Green and Debra D. Bishop; two sons, George DeLoache and Melvin DeLoache; four brothers, Samuel Chapman, William Chapman, Mert Chapman and Donald Chapman; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 4:30 Thursday at Gassaway United Methodist Church by the Rev. Wayne Smith. Entombment is in Travis Park Mausoleum.
Visitation is from 3-4 Thursday at the church.

Alice Gambrell
WARE SHOALS - Mrs. Alice Smith Gambrell, 80, of 2 Greenacres Dr., widow of Marvin V. Gambrell died September 10 at her home. She was born in Honea Path, S.C., a daughter of the late Jack and Kitty Snipes Smith and was retired from Honea Path Shirtmakers.
Mrs. Gambrell was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving are: one son, Marvin Smith Gambrell, Greenwood; two daughters, Mrs. James 'Marlene' Madden, Ware Shoals, Mrs. Mike ÒCaroleÓ McKee, Ware Shoals, S.C.; six grandchildren, Tammy M. Hembree, Michele Mouyeos, Kevin McKee, Jill Boland, Julie G. McDade, and Timmy Madden and ten great-grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Clarence Smith and Guy Smith and one sister, Ruby Smith Britt. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, 11 AM at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Emory officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Dennis Marsh, Boyd Britt, Jack Smith, Frank Smith, Mack Smith, Jason Smith.
Honorary escort will be Henry Cooper, Jr., Johnny Wright, Billy Wells, Jake Davis, J. T. Snipes, Blair Snipes, Keith Gambrell, Titus Gambrell and the Ladies Sunday School Class.

Mamie D. Johnson
SALUDA — Mamie Davis Johnson, 96, of 200 Travis Ave., widow of Eulie D. Johnson, died Sept. 10, 2001, at her home.
born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar J. and Hassie A. Marchant Gentry. She was first married
to the late Henry M. Davis. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Ida Crouch Bible Class and the Dawsey Circle and a charter member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and a former member of the Saluda Garden Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Betty) Griffith of Greenville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Edith Bell and Mary Cheek, both of Greenwood, Blanche Charles of North Myrtle Beach and Helen Bryan of Edgefield.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church by the Revs. Nels Ledwell and Wayne Horne. Burial is in Travis Park cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 Wednesday at Ramey Funeral Home.

GREENWOOD — Fannie Mae Carroll Mathis, 63, of 108 Posey St., widow of Bobbie J. Mathis, died Sept. 11, 2001, at her home.
born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Lola Dean Carroll. Former owner of Martin Beauty Shop, she was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Monique Mathis of Irmo and Mellissa Mathis of Florence; a brother, Ulysses Carroll of Greenwood; a sister, Sarah Morse of Greenwood; and a grandson.

WARE SHOALS — Lota Griffith Payne, 94, of 913 Old Shoals Junction Road, Donalds, widow of Fred N. Payne, died Sept. 8, 2001, at Magnolia Place in Greenville.
born in Garfield, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George W. and Kate Boatwright Griffith. She was a retired nurse at Self Memorial Hospital and a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church and Eastern Star Boyd Bobo Chapter.
Survivors include two sons, G. Fred Payne of Simpsonville, William M. Payne of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Virgil J. Griffith of Saluda and James Griffith of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Vivian Webb of Saluda and Kate Mullinax of Ware Shoals; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. GREENWOOD — Clara Bobo Rodgers, 87, of Sterling House, widow of Irby E. Rodgers, died Sept. 7, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Union County, she was a daughter of the late William Norman and Anna Elizabeth Bolt Bobo. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and Lander College. She retired as office manager for Dr. Richard Carter. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, the Upper Room Sunday School Class and the Circle No. 10 of the church. She was also a member of the Lander Club and a former member of the Pilot Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane R. McGahee of Taylors and Ann R. MacKenzie of Gastonia, N.C.; two brothers, the Rev. Preston Bolt Bobo of West Columbia and William N. Bobo of Greenwood; a sister, Helen B. Byrd of Chapel Hill, N.C., seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 today at Main Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Jenkins. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Visitation is from 2-3 today in the Ladies Parlor at Main Street United Methodist Church.

born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Broadus Claiborne and Martha Perry Corley. She was a homemaker and was an Army Veteran (WAC). She was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of the home; daughter, Jan Farmer of Hodges; niece, Brenda Ivie of Greenwood; nephews, Randy Corley of Hodges, Don Corley of Travelers Rest, and Rick Corley of Beaufort; brother, Fred Corley of Greenwood; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Harvey Peurifoy officiating.

GREENWOOD — Jesse Edward Moore Sr., 75, of 235 Florida Ave., Apt. 65, husband of Betty Brown Moore, died Sept. 7, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Augusta.
born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late Jesse Lee and Ethel Perry Moore. He retired from Independent Life Insurance Co., where he was a sales representative for 20 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and a charter member of Living Waters Tabernacle.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Donna M. Wham and Kim M. Harrison, both of Greenwood; a son, Phillip D. Moore of Greenwood; two brothers, John Moore and Paul Moore, both of Greenwood; two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Rick Harris and Mr. Phillip Moore.
