Inez Seigler Wardlaw
GREENWOOD — Inez Seigler Wardlaw, 75, of 513 Taggart St., wife of Lewis Wardlaw, died Aug. 14, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Callison, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Julie Ann Dunlap Seigler. She was a retired employee of Greenwood Packing Plant and a member of New Faith Holiness Deliverance Church.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Ida Seigler, Theresa Seigler and Angela Seigler, all of the home; a stepdaughter, Effie Turner of Atlanta; four sons, Willie Seigler, Lloyd Seigler, Clarence Seigler and Ben Seigler, all of Greenwood; a sister, Cecil Fuller of Uniondale, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, two reared in the home, Quintrell and Steven Seigler; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is at the home.
No services are planned. Donations may be made to the charity or church of one’s choice.

GREENWOOD — Services for Emanuel Wright, of 111 Moss Creek Drive, Greenwood, are Friday at 3 at Milway Baptist Church in Troy. The Rev. Bernard White is officiating and will be assisted by the Revs. Lonnie Jones and Ulysses Parks.
The body will be at the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Leroy ‘Rabbit Dog’ Dansby
GREENWOOD — Leroy “Rabbit Dog” Dansby, 51, of 218 Sloan Ave., husband of Margaret Ferguson, died Aug. 13, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Timothy and Cleo Dansby. He was a logger for Earnest Ouzts Logging Co. and a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield County. He attended Brewer High School, where he was a former bus driver.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Daryl Hill of Greenwood; four stepsons, William Ferguson, Ricky Ferguson, Michael Ferguson and Johnnie Ferguson, all of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Malissa Ferguson of Greenwood; four brothers, Timothy Dansby and William Dansby, both of Washington, D.C., Chris Dansby and Thomas Dansby, both of Maryland; four stepbrothers, Joe Morgan of Promised Land, William Morgan and Leroy Morgan, both of Greenwood and John Morgan of McCormick; five sisters, Ola Mae Dansby and Gladys Wilson, both of Maryland, Annie Ruth Harlem of Atlanta and Mozell Foster and Helen Yeldell, both of Greenwood; four stepsisters, Alberta Cunningham of McCormick, Luberta McIntyer and Annie Mae Gaines, both of Maryland and Mary Sue Morgan of Atlanta; four grandchildren, and a great grandchild.

Stanley L. Hurst Sr.
SALUDA — Stanley Lyman Hurst Sr., 84, of 1502 Denny Highway, husband of Lena Allen Hurst, died Aug. 11, 2001, at his home.
born in Minneapolis, he was a son of the late Ernest C. and Marie Ellen Nicholson Hurst. He was the retired owner and operator of Pinehurst Resort in northern Wisconsin, a pilot and a member of Butler United Methodist Church. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he served as a pilot in the Pacific.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Stan Hurst Jr. of Lowell, Ind.; a daughter, Joan Herbst of Vernon Hills, Ill.; a brother, Bill Hurst of Blytheville, Ark.; three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Butler United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ben Ward.
Visitation is from 7-8 Wednesday at Ramey Funeral Home.

Price Quinn
Houston Price Quinn, 81, resident of 1291 Calhoun Road (Quarterpath), formerly of Ormond Beach, FL and Atlanta, GA, beloved husband of Patricia W. Quinn, died August 13, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Quinn was born February 23, 1920 in Washington, DC. He was the son of the late Chester and Mazie Elizabeth Quinn of Atlanta, GA and a brother of the late Burns Duke Quinn, also of Atlanta.
Mr. Quinn retired from Southern Railway where he was supervisor in the Freight Re-Audit Department. He was President of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, Washington Lodge 943, AFL-CIO.
Mr. Quinn was a faithful Christian, a Deacon and Ordained Elder, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood, SC. He was a Free and Accepted Master Mason for more than fifty years in the Grand Lodge of Georgia, Pythagoras Lodge #41. In addition, Mr. Quinn was a member of the American Legion, Georgia Post 159 for 55 years.
Mr. Quinn graduated from Boy's High School in Anderson, SC in 1938 and attended McCallie Military Academy in Chattanooga, TN.
He served his country proudly in the European Theater in WWII as a Staff Sgt. in the US Army Air Corps, 10th Airdromo, SQ-AAF-180. During one of his furloughs in England he showed his lifelong concern for his fellow man by giving his furlough time to the English farmers and helping them plant their crops. He was the first soldier to report for this service. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a good, kind, loving and fair man - a man of integrity and honor; a man who cared deeply about his family and his fellow man.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son Mark S. Quinn of Greenwood; two daughters, Patricia E. Miller and her husband Brian N. Smith of Norcross, GA and Jean Q. Sink and her husband Sam V. Day of Greenwood. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michael S. Miller and his wife Shelly of Norcross, GA, Douglas B. Smith of Norcross, GA, Anne L. Sink of Greenwood, Terry G. Sink, Jr. of Ormond Beach, FL and Timothy Price Sink of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 2PM Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Livingston and Dr. John Wall officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Michael Miller, Doug Smith, Brian Smith, Terry Sink, Tim Sink and Sam Day. The family is at the home in Quarterpath and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening.

SALUDA — Frances Huffman Tolbert, 84, of 197 Tolbert Road, widow of Jesse Morton Tolbert, died Aug. 12, 2001, at her home.
born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Holland Lawton and Elizabeth Earhardt Huffman. She was a retired librarian with Saluda County Library, serving for 30 years. She was also a former member of the B.P.W. and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Morris (Betsy) Jones and Mrs. Mike “Stumpy” (Joanna) Wertz, both of Saluda; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ben Ward. Burial is in the church cemetery.

CALHOUN FALLS — Clyde H. Broadwell, 78, of 662 Savannah St., husband of Ruth McClain Broadwell, died Aug. 12, 2001, at his home.
born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William M. and Ethel Mann Broadwell. He was a retired letter carrier, serving for 43 years, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion Post of Calhoun Falls, Calhoun Falls Lions Club and the Golden Agers. He also delivered Meals-on-Wheels and was a member of Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church, where he was co-teacher of the Men’s Bible Class. He was twice married
, first to the late Hazel Rose Broadwell.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Clyde H. Broadwell Jr. of Calhoun Falls; two daughters, Iris B. Moss of Abbeville and Evadne Starnes of Greenwood; three stepdaughters, Hazel Cape of Columbia, Mary Sue Whitus of Mineola, Texas and Linda Thomas of Liberty; three brothers, William Broadwell and George Broadwell, both Calhoun Falls and Wayne Broadwell of Anderson; two sisters, Myrtle Bishop of Ware Shoals and Lena Hopkins of Rock Hill; and six grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church, with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.

NINETY SIX - Eric Hager, 16, of 5901 Highway 178 South, died Friday, August 10, 2001 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
born in Greenwood, a son of Ronald Hager and Margaret Cogdill McDonald, he was a Junior of Ninety Six High School where he was a former member of the foot-ball team. He was predeceased by grandpar-ents Marshall and Magnolia Cogdill.
Surviving in addition to his father of Ware Shoals are his mother and stepfather, Mark McDonald of the home; a sister, Ashley Culbertson of the home; a stepbrother, Brock McDonald of the home; grandparents Edith Lambert of Ninety Six, Ronald and Diane Hager, Sr., of Fisher, Indiana; Joe and Blanche McDonald of Ninety Six, and Glenda McDonald of Bradley.
Services will be 4:00 pm Tuesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Davis and Rev. Ben Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.

‘Sleepy’ Scruggs, outdoorsman, ex-McCormick councilman, dies
McCORMICK — Lewis “Sleepy” Scruggs, ” who deftly juggled an active life of public service and colorful hobbies between two widely diverse careers, died Sunday in the large two-story home he built with his own hands.
He was a manager with Milliken Mills for 40 years and later boarded a pontoon to provide fishing and river tours for Savannah Lakes Village.
Scruggs, 79, attended Presbyterian College, where he played football and boxed.
By that time, he had been dubbed “Sleepy” after a baseball whizzed by his head as he daydreamed in the infield.
He served in the Navy during World War II, participating in seven invasions.
Scruggs was a former member of McCormick County and City councils, a Commissioner of Public Works, a Soil Conservation board member and an Emergency Medical Service volunteer. He was one of the organizers and builders of Long Cane Academy.
He was the husband of Marjorie Cogle Scruggs and a member of McCormick United Methodist Church.
An avid outdoorsman, Scruggs hunted, fished and prospected for gold and loved to share his hobbies. He provided mining demonstrations at McCormick’s Gold Rush Days and other community events. He also was an accomplished artist, specializing in wildlife scenes.
Lewis Furqueron Scruggs was born in Augusta, a son of the late Jack and Georgia Furqueron Scruggs. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve Scruggs of McCormick and Ricky Scruggs of Greenwood; a grandson reared in the home, Leland Scruggs of McCormick; three daughters, Dianne Purdy and Gwen Sibert, both of McCormick and Callie Patterson of Anderson; two sisters, Mary Frances Truluck of Laurens and Catherine Hanna of McCormick; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McCormick United Methodist Church by the Revs. Don Clendaniel III and Mary Rowell. Burial is in Overbrook cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Baggett, Leonard Bowick, Melvin Bowick, Garfield Bowick, Russell Ferris, Stan Sexton, Alton White, Tommy White, Jake Trantham, Abe Moton, John Vaughter and Randy Young.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight in the social hall at McCormick United Methodist Church. The family is at the home on U.S. 378 East.
