GREENWOOD — Patricia Ann Rylee Griffin, 57, of 229 Jenkins Springs Road, wife of Fred Griffin, died Aug. 1, 2001, at her home.
born in England, she was a daughter of Grace Young Rylee and the late Thomas Rylee. She was a bookkeeper for Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store in Greenwood.
Survivors include her husband of the home; her mother of Fitzgerald, Ga.; a son, Sam Griffin of Greenwood; two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Penny) Humbertson and Peggy Turner, both of Greenwood; a sister, Pam Bateman of Franklin, Tenn.; three brothers, Rick Rylee of Korea, Terri Rylee of Atlanta and David Rylee of Fitzgerald; and four grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Friday at Harley Funeral Home by the Rev. Stephen Owens. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Freddie Wideman, John Witt, Roland MacInville, Glen Wideman, Ray Witt and Ralph Reed.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Emma Lou Hubbard
GREENWOOD — Emma Lou Johnson Hubbard, 70, of 103 Belcourt Drive in Belle Meade, died July 31, 2001, at Lexington Medical Center.
born in Millen, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Ben and Mary Lou Patterson Johnson. She retired as manager of Quality Control and Regulatory Affairs with Capsugel. A member of South Main Street Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Ruby Adams Sunday School Class, the Barbara Moseley Missionary Circle and the Pilot Club.
Survivors include a son, Hal Hubbard of Columbia, and two grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 7 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home by the Revs. Dave Patterson, Richard McWhite and David Corbitt.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Lane Family cemetery, Millen.
Pallbearers are Bob Templeton, Fred Teeter, Hamp Warner, Bubba Culbertson, Randy Dougherty, Sonny Patterson and David Fernandez.

Bill Melstrom
GREENWOOD - W. R. 'Bill' Melstrom, 73, husband of J. A. Melstrom, died July 31, 2001 at his home.
born in Edison, KS, June 22, 1928, he was a son of the late Edward C. and Ethna Ella Solomon Melstrom. He was a grad-uate of Finley Engineering College in Kansas City, MO where he received a B.S. Degree in Construc-tion Engineering. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II, and was retired as Director of Cartography and Geographic Information Systems of the US Government Soil and Conservation Services.
Mr. Melstrom was a Registered Auction-eer and a member of the Northern Virginia Board of Realtors. He received his diploma from the National Institute of Real Estate. He was a Commander of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 14-2 in Omaha and was recognized for many of his contributions. Mr. Melstrom was heavily valued in Boy Scouts and has been recognized many times for his contributions.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister. He received Knight of the Year in 1990 from the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th degree Knight for Council #719. Mr. Melstrom was a member of the American Legion Post #20 where he served as Sergeant of Arms. He was recognized by the Department of Social Services for volunteering to distribute food for the Disabled American Veterans. He visited the sick at homes and hospitals.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two daughters, Deborah Griffin and Mrs. Tom (Barbara Jean) Yeager; four sons, Roger Melstrom, Mike Melstrom, John Melstrom and Billy Melstrom; nine grand-children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10 AM Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Father Richard Harris officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dan Biron, Kevin Schaffer, James Taylor, Jack Bartanus, Matthew Griffin and Scott Biron.
Honorary escort will be Members of American Legion Post #20 and the Knights of Columbus.
The family will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 6 to 8 Friday evening. There will be a Rosary prayed at 6:30 and a Christian Wake service will begin at 7PM.

Virginia ‘Dixie’ Winter
FRIPP ISLAND — Virginia “Dixie” Woodcock Winter, 82, wife of William E. Winter, died August 1, 2001, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
born in Hollidaysburg, Pa., she was a daughter of the late John and Marjorie Sprecher Woodcock. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort, a founding board member of the Boys and Girl’s Club of Beaufort and a former U.S. history teacher at the high school in Aiken. A founder of the Fripp Island Audubon Society, she regularly contributed information about birds to The Trawler, the Fripp Island newspaper.
Survivors include her husband of Fripp Island; two daughters, Elizabeth Crower of Midland, Mich., and Barbara Park of Greenwood; a son, William E. Winter Jr. of Gaffney; a brother, John Woodcock of Altoona, Pa.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 Saturday at the Fripp Island Chapel.

born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Luther Brownlo Hall and Mattie Liner Hall. He was an Army veteran and retired textile worker, and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Bonnie Marie Scott of Greenville and Opal Hall Miller of Greenwood.

born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late George Allen and Cynthia Ella Mundy Hannah. She was a seamstress and a member of Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Earline Jameson of Charleston and Mary Inez Boiter of Hickory Tavern.
Services will be conducted at 3 Thursday at Parker-White Funeral Home by the Rev. Wayne Wicker. Burial is in Greenville Presbyterian Church cemetery, Donalds.

born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late James Olin Miller Jr. and Mildred Eileen Thompson Gray. She retired from Capsugel and was a member of Grace Community Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Elizabeth Breland of Greenwood; two sons, Reginald Van Eric Culbertson and Reginald Christopher Daniel Culbertson, both of Greenwood; a sister, Janice Faye Cochran of Anderson; a brother, Donnie Ray Miller of Greenwood; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. today in Oakbrook Memorial Park, conducted by Pastor John Walsh.

GREENWOOD — R. C. “Pete” Hammond, Jr., 76, of 111 Lawton Street, husband of Virginia Hall Hammond, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at his home.
born in Anderson, he was a son of the late R. C. Hammond, Sr. and Allie Haynie Hammond. He was a graduate of Williamston High School and Draughn’s Business College and was retired from Greenwood Supply and Farmer’s Furniture. He was a US Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict with the aircraft warning squadron. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge #834, the Anderson Country Club and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Mason Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Joseph Hammond.
Surviving is his wife of the home and a daughter and son-in-law, Kay Hammond Drummond and Sam Drummond of Mt. Pleasant.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. James D. Dennis, Jr. and the Rev. James Medley officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be John Dupre, Ken Flinchum, Bill Logan, Gene Glanton, Frankie Connell and Bob Curenton.
