Alma R. Hysell
WATERLOO — Alma Reid Hysell, 74, passed away on December 26, 2004 at her home in Waterloo. She was the wife of the late James Hysell; daughter of the late Horace and Pearl Reid; loving mother of daughters, Wanda Hysell, Waterloo, SC, Cindy Correll, St. Mary, Missouri, Elaine Kriegel, Lighthouse Point, Florida, and sons, Ed Hysell, Waterloo, Mickey Hysell, Okeechobee, Florida; and a dear sister of brothers, Wayne (Buzzy) Reid, Greenwood, SC, James (Daniel) Reid, Hodges, SC and Fred (Mike) Reid, Columbus, Ohio.
She was the devoted grandmother of Ricky Wayne Casey, James (Robby), Kassandra, Patricia and Jenna Kriegel and devoted great-grandmother of Max Casey.
Sisters would like to thank their brother Ed Hysell and his future wife, Brenda Boekel for the tender loving care that they bestowed upon their mom these past many months.
The family will receive friends at Parker-White Funeral Home in Ware Shoals, SC, on Tuesday, December 28, 6-8 PM. Graveside service at Harmony United Methodist Church in Ware Shoals at 2 PM Wednesday.

HONEA PATH — Pamela Nichole Davis, 16, of 7074 Highway 20, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004.
born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Tracy Gene Vaughn and Jessie Ann Davis Cole. She was a member of Little River Baptist Church and was a junior at Dixie High School.
Survivors include her father of Antreville, her mother of the home; stepfather, John Matthew Cole of the home; stepmother, Crystal Howell of Antreville; a sister, Tamara Lynn Cole of the home; a stepsister, Courtney Danielle Howell of Antreville; paternal grandparents, Larry and Glenda Vaughn of Honea Path; paternal great-grandfather, Otto Brock of Honea Path; paternal great-grandmother, Nellie Vaughn of Honea Path; maternal grandparents, Eastern and Jessie Davis of Honea Path, maternal great-grandmother, Mali Brock of Honea Path, step-grandparents, Johnny Cole of Belton and Faye Wilson of Anderson; and step-grandparents, Walter and Thelma Campbell of Anderson.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Keowee Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Jerry Mize, Charles Fuller and Tim Brooks. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is after 12 noon Tuesday at Pruitt Funeral Home.

Simon Edwards
SALUDA, SC — Simon Peter Edwards, 74, of 1072 Forrest Hills Rd., died Sunday, December 26, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.
born in Saluda County and a son of the late Walter Henry and Hester Ann Berry Edwards, he was the husband of the late Mary Bledsoe Edwards. He served in the US Army Air Corps and was retired from Graniteville Mills. Mr. Edwards was a member of Saluda First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Nine brothers, Patrick, Mike, James, Walter, Joe Ben, David, Barry, Hamp and Paul Edwards preceded Mr. Edwards in death.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Saluda First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Walter Edwards Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Monday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.

Howard Griffin
Howard “Bike” Griffin, 87, formerly of 225 Saco St., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004 at the Richard E. Campbell Veteran’s Nursing Home in Anderson.
born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late James Larkin and Nancy Fuller Griffin. He retired from the Navy having served on the USS Hornet during WWII and the Korean War and was a member of West Side Baptist Church.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
Services are 1 p.m. today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Hal Lane.
Visitation is immediately following the service at graveside.

WATERLOO — Wilkins Jerry Grubbs, 44, of 5920 River Fork Road, husband of Angie Grubbs, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004 at his home.
A native of Woodruff, S.C., he was a son of Junior Grubbs and the late Leola Gossett Grubbs. He was a former electrician and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his father; stepmother, Nanny Grubbs; two sisters, Margie Harlan of Gray Court and Anita O’Shaughnessy of Houston.

Josephine Hall
Nina Josephine Anderson Hall (Mama Joe), 90, of Panama City, Florida died December 23, 2004 in a Panama City nursing home. She grew up in Greenwood, South Carolina, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1932 and married
her husband, Odell Hall in September of that same year. She was very involved in her church in South Carolina, South Main Street Baptist Church; she was in the choir, taught Sunday school and joined the Gideon Society. She retired from United Telephone Company after twenty years of service. In 1989, she moved to Panama City, and joined First Baptist Church of Parker, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lealand Odell (L.O.) Hall. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Hall Kitchings and husband Bob of Panama City, grandchildren, Robert (Ed) Kitchings and wife Cris of Ocala, Florida, Beverly Copes of Panama City, great grandchildren, Robert Kitchings IV of Ocala, Emily Roberts of Panama City, personal friends, Elizabeth Sexton and Ruby Stegeman. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, South Carolina. Leon M. James Sr.
EDGEFIELD — Leon M. James Sr., 82, husband of Rebecca Cogburn James, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Pacolet, S.C., he was a retired farmer and a member of Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Kiebler James, Chattanooga, Tenn.; three daughters, Barbara Lee Hopkins, Mauldin, Becky Dilleshaw, Greenville, and Debbie Murrell, Mauldin; two brothers, Bobby James and Rufus James, both of Greenwood; a sister, Jean Davenport, Greenwood; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at little Stevens Creek Baptist Church. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

GREENWOOD — Mildred Dukes Carlay, 86, resident of 210 Sylvan Rd., widow of Horace C. Carlay, died December 24, 2004 at Morningside Assisted Living.
born in Greenwood County, October 31, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Janie Rush Dukes. She was a graduate of Ninety Six High School. Mrs. Carlay retired from Civil Service-Department of Health, Education and Welfare in Denver, CO.
A member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was a member of AARP.
Surviving are three sisters, Mary D. Rambo of Summerville, Daisy D. Rodgers and Frances D. Sprouse, both of Greenwood; a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carlay was predeceased by four brothers, J.T. Dukes, James W. Dukes, William F. Dukes and Allen E. Dukes; and a sister, Evelyn D. Latham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Tucker and Rev. James Rodgers officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Tom Dukes, Jimmy Sprouse, Roger Hembree, Johnny Ballentine, Calvin Coursey, Terry Latham, Garnet Latham, Joshua Rodgers and Kevin Hembree. Honorary escort will be nieces and nephews. The family is at the home of Kim and Roger Hembree, 126 Clifton St. in Hyde Park and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 Sunday evening.

BRADLEY — The Rev. Archie Rufus Evans, 80, of 503 Markham Road, husband of Lee Highsmith Evans, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004 at his home.
born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Lewis Wesley and Lot Stroud Evans. He was a graduate of Wofford College, where he holds the football record for the longest punt. A World War II Army veteran, he was a retired Advent Christian Minister and a member of Bold Springs Baptist Church and the Men’s Bible Class of the church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Cindy Evans Stanley of the home and Charlotte Evans Blackwell of Greenwood; two sons, Archie Warren Evans of Walterboro and Curtis Wesley Evans of Goose Creek; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Bold Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chris Garrison. The body will be placed in the church at 1. A private family burial is after the service.
Pallbearers are Andrew Spell, Archie James Evans, Curtis John Hodges, Justin Stanley, Matthew Sparrow, Patrick Evans and Glen Coker.
Honorary escorts are members of the Men’s Bible Class of the church.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Nina Josephine Anderson “Mama Jo” Hall, 90, widow of Lealand Odell “L.O.” Hall, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 in a Panama City nursing home.
A native of Greenwood, S.C., she was a 1932 graduate of Greenwood High School. She was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, taught Sunday school and joined the Gideon Society. She retired from United Telephone Co. after 20 years of service. In 1989, she moved to Panama City and joined First Baptist Church of Parker, Florida.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Carolyn Hall) Kitchings of Panama City; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood.
