CHESNEE - Daisy Marie Quinn, 44, of 107 Over Head Bridge Road, died June 27, 2004 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County, N.C., she was the wife of Darryl Quinn and daugther of Mattie Randall and the late Cletus Randall.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, Travis Lefler of Chesnee; two daughters, Jacalyn M. Peterson of the home and Brooke Quinn of Cowpens; two brothers, Titus Stewart of Roebuck and Albert Stewart of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Cindy Parris of Spartanburg, Ann Laughter of Forest City, N.C. and Jane Powell of Ellenboro, N.C.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, they will be at the home. A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, June 29 at Fairview Freewill Baptist Church, 2058 Chesnee Hwy. in Spartanburg at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Tim Hackett officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church cemetery, 502 Buck Shoals Road, Gaffney.

CHESNEE - Peggy Westbrook, 70, formerly of Chesnee, died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
born in Polk County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late James Pinkney Gilbert and Georgia Ann Shultz. She was a retired caregiver and a member of Pinewood Baptist Church.
Surviving are her spouse Donald Westbrook Sr.; sons, Donald Westbrook Jr., and wife Nena of Chesnee, Matthew Thomas Westbrook of Chesnee; daughters, Judy Mills and friend Paul Mitchell of Gaffney, Patty Stephens and husband Timmy of Chesnee, Audrey LaGrand and friend Michael Waldrup of Gaffney; brother, Frederick Gilbert of Spartanburg; sisters, Inez Henson of Chadbourne, N.C., Gerogialene Gowen of Chesnee and Norma Jean Cantrell of Chesnee; grandchildren, Chad and Travis Mills, Mindy, Jonathan and Cassie Westbrook, Christy Paysour, Keith, Brian, Eric, and Tyler Stephens; great-grandchildren, Chase Mills, Peyton Mills, and Brian Paysour.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Casey Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Tim Stephens and the Reverend Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of Timmy and Patty Stephens, 107 Blackwell Road in Chesnee.

MOORESBORO, N.C. - Carrie Campbell Whelchel, 85, of 3009 Wood Road, Mooresboro, died Friday, June 25, 2004 at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mary Elizabeth Ruppe Campbell. She was retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant, and was of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Walter Whelchel.
She is survived by one daughter; Phyllis McGillivray of Charleston and one brother, James Campbell of Cliffside, N.C.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 27, 2004 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home. Burial followed in Prospect Baptist Church cemetery.
Daniel Craig Butler
Daniel Craig Butler, 56, of 423 Burgess Road, died June 27, 2004 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Carolyn Mullinax Butler and the son of the late Guy Vernon Butler and the late Rebecca Colleen Butler Hamrick.
Formerly employed with Dorman Painting Company, he attended Bethel Memorial Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Anna Colleen Pierce and Lori DeLane Sellars of Gaffney; a son, Lynn Sellars of Gaffney; eight grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Retired from Musgrove Mills
Carolyn Jean Porter Ledford, 63, of 3111 Union Hwy., died June 25, 2004.
She was the daughter of the late Grady Porter and the late Florence Maynor Porter, her stepmother was the late Hattie Robinson Porter.
A retiree from Musgrove Mills, she attended Silica Springs Baptist Church. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Ann Phillips and Betty Sue Gamble of Gaffney; brother, Jimmy Wayne Porter of Gaffney; four nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 27 at 3 p.m., with graveside services at Frederick Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Lynn Ford officiated.
Pallbearers were Bryan Martin, Patrick Phillips, Lynn Laughlin, Tim Spencer, Dwane Lamb and Bruce Porter.
The family is at 114 Escambia Avenue.

Betty W. Phillips

Betty Ann Whelchel Phillips, 50, of 400 Bonner Lake Road, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of David Phillips and daughter of Bertha Elizabeth Moore Whelchel and the late Carl Lee Whelchel. She was a textile worker and a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother are a son, Travis Phillips of Pacolet; one grandchild; four sisters, Shirley Wyatt, Peggy Henson, Maggie Thomas, all of Gaffney, and Vicki Millwood of Mayo; and two brothers, Gerald Whelchel of Gaffney and Kenneth Whelchel of Forest City, N.C.
In addition to her husband and father, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by a sister, Gail Mode, and two brothers, Rod Whelchel and Dan Whelchel.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Vernon Mullinax. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday following the service.
Pallbearers will be Leon Broome, Clint Hood, Jack Phillips, Dennis Childers, Robert Phillips and Jody Partin.

Arvel Brindel

Arvel Brindel, 83, of 2047 Bachelor Road, Mooresboro, N.C., died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Jasper, Ga., he was born on March 14, 1921, and was the husband of Doris Teasley Brindel. His parents were the late James Arch Brindel and the late Mabel Long Brindel. A retired mechanic from Central Chevrolet in Columbia, he was a lifetime member of the Masons, Scottish Rites and the Shriners, and was a member of the Eastern Star. He served in the U.S. Army with the 862nd Aviation Engineer Corp during World War II.
Surviving are a son, James Arch Brindel of Ward, S.C.; a daughter, Troyce Smart-McSwain of Mooresboro, N.C.; two brothers, Olen Brindel of Cary, Ill., and Jake Rufus Brindel of Picayune, Miss.; a sister, Opal Springfield of Talladega, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tony Arvel Brindel; a brother, D.A. Brindel; and a sister, Jewel Padgett.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charles Ivey. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30-11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.

Estelle Gilfillan McCain, 90, formerly of 933 Adams Ave., died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Brookview HealthCare Center.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of Jim McCain and daughter of the late Carl Elliott and the late Minnie Coyle Elliott Sellars. She was a retired textile employee and was first married
to the late John Clem Gilfillan. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, Jimmy C. Gilfillan Sr. of Gaffney; four daughters, Katie Upchurch, Margaret Hilton, both of Rock Hill, Lois Shirley Gilfillan of Gaffney and Carolyn Gilfillan of Kershaw; a half-sister, Ponice Sellars of Gaffney; three half-brothers, Garland Sellars of Blacksburg, Olin Sellars of Gaffney and Bobby Sellars of Spartanburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Willie Lanier and Dean Painter. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Charlie Thompson, 78, of Peachtree Centre, formerly of 2299 McCraw Road, Mooresboro, N.C., died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at 8:15 a.m. in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Son of the late Gather and Planter Thompson, he was a native of Cleveland County, N.C., and a member of Mikes Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from Randolph Trucking Co.
Surviving are a son, Bernard Thompson of Mooresboro, N.C.; two daughters, Angelia S. Dawkins and Angel Jefferies of Gaffney; two brothers, Windell Wray of Mooresboro and Windfred Wray of Boiling Springs, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Samuel Johnson and the Revs. Stanley Watson, Samuel Leach and Kervin Wray. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m.

Thomas Richard Johnson, 53, of 291 Northgate Road, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
born in Jackson, Miss., he was a son of John Johnson Sr. of the home and Louise Norwood Johnson of St. Paul, Minn. He was a Baptist and a carpenter.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Johnson Jr., and a sister, Kathy.
Also surviving are his wife, Cassandra Laird Johnson of New York; a son, Sha-ron Harris of Hempstead, N.Y.; two daughters, Tiara Harris of Hempstead and Tosha Harris of Florida; stepmother, Lisa Johnson of the home; three brothers, John Johnson Jr. and Christopher Johnson, both of the home, and the Rev. Robert Lee Johnson of St. Paul, Minn.; and five sisters, Doris Norwood, Jeanette Johnson and Linda Johnson, all of Norwood, Miss., Jill Woodward of Atlanta, Ga., and Nicole Johnson of the home.
