Dr. Everett Joe Merritt, 67, of 135-A Glenwood Drive, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in his home. Born in York, he was a son of Della Ramsey Merritt and the late Oscar Merritt. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and later received his Ph.D. from Columbia Commonwealth University. He was a pilot and captain in the Civil Air Patrol and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from the South Carolina education system and Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter, where he was a medical technologist. He also was a part-time math instructor and tutor at York Technical College. He is listed in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.” Survivors besides his mother include a brother, Harmon Merritt of York; and three sisters, Janice M. Ramsey and Emily M. Mobley, both of York, and Dixie M. Deal of Clover. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Hawkins officiating. EFFINGHAM — Terrell Antionio Wright, 13, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at the Medical University of South Carolina. Born Aug. 7, 1988, in Florence County, he was a son of Yvette Wright and Sean Wilds. He attended Florence County public schools and was a student at Sneed Middle School. He attended Savannah Grove Baptist Church. Survivors besides his parents include two sisters, Brittany Wright and Beth Graham, both of the Savannah Grove community; two stepsisters of Florence; a half-sister of Florence; a half-brother of Florence; maternal grandmother, Gloria G. Wright, of the Savannah Grove community; a maternal grandfather, Billy Wright, of the Evergreen community; paternal grandparents Joan and Johnnie Wilds, both of Florence; two great-grandfathers, Deacon Ned Gee Jr. of Savannah Grove Community and Horace Wright of Florence; a stepgrandmother, Shirley Graham of Florence; three aunts; an uncle; and other relatives. BARNWELL — Peter Coutrier Jr., 59, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Barnwell County Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1942, in Charleston, he was a son of Inez Brown Coutrier and the late Peter Coutrier Sr.

NEWBERRY — Lucy Longshore Boozer, 93, of 1345 Wilson Road, widow of Chevis I. Boozer, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Covenant Place in Sumter.
Born Oct. 1, 1908, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Henry T. and Geneva Hudspath Longshore. She was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church and Circle No. 3.
Survivors include two sons, C.I. “Bud” Boozer Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Mauldin and Michael N. Boozer of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Eleanor B. Beard and her husband, Jim, of Sumter and Marcelle B. Ackerman and her husband, Bill, of Prosperity; seven grandsons, Neal Beard and Ed Beard, both of Columbia, Andy Ackerman and Billy Ackerman, both of Prosperity, Chev Boozer of Simpsonville, Rusty Boozer of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Art Boozer of Newberry; a granddaughter, Payton Boozer of Lake Charles, La.; two caregivers, Josephine Wheeler of Newberry and Dorothy Mae Wheeler of Prosperity; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Boozer.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College St., Newberry, with the Rev. John Buckner Malcolm officiating. Burial will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

SANTEE — Becky Antonieke Davis, 19, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Lake Marion in Santee State Park.
Born Aug. 28, 1982, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Anthony B. Davis and Jean Wright-Davis. She was a 2001 Crestwood High School graduate and had planned to attend Central Carolina Technical College’s School of Nursing in the fall. She was employed by Ruby Tuesday Inc. of Sumter and was engaged to Chris Sheard.
Survivors besides her mother and father include two sons, Deiondre Malik Davis and Avion Markiest Benjamin, both of the home; a brother, Jordan Davis-Myers of Wedgefield; a sister, LaToya Walker of the home; her maternal grandmother, Bessie Wright of Wedgefield; her paternal grandparents, Charlie and Wilber C. Davis of Sumter; and a nephew, Joshua Darnell Walker of the home.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Ernest Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Middle School, U.S. 521 North, Dalzell, with the Rev. Douglas Fisher officiating and Bishop Henry Dillard, state bishop, residing, assisted by trial elder Eston Wells, the Rev. Larry Wright and the Rev. Betty Fisher. Burial will be in Mayesville City Cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The funeral procession will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the home, 109 Briarcliff Mobile Home Park, Dalzell.

Sam William “Bill” Goins Jr., 43, husband of JoAnn McGriff Goins, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at his home.
Born January 15, 1959, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Sam W. Goins Sr. and Alma Sherwin Cooper Welch. He graduated from Sumter High School and was employed by Santee Print Works. He was a member of Sumter Masonic Lodge No. 364, Scottish Rite Temple, Jamil Shrine Temple, the Gamecock Shrine Club, Jamil Jets and Royal Order of Jesters. He was an active bowler in the Tuesday Night Mix and Men’s City League. He was also a member of the Five Points Hunting Club and White Tails Deer Hunting Club. He was a Baptist.
Survivors besides his wife, mother and father include a stepmother, Sheryl Goins; a stepfather, Roy Welch Jr.; three sons, Chase Goins, Patrick Goins and Eric Castro; a daughter, Leah Castro; and three brothers, Craig Goins, Woody Newman and Eddie Newman, all of Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Fleming officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Gene Gowder, John Davis, Keith Hodge, Ervin Boykin, Donny McLeod and Lewis Clark will serve as pallbearers.

LANCASTER — William Theadore Canty, husband of Elaine Williams Canty, died Sunday, July 28, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
He was a son of Henry and Sarah Richardson Canty and was employed as a product engineering manager by Duracell, where he served in several managerial positions during his 25-year employment.
Survivors besides his wife of Barnwell and parents of Pinewood include four children, Tia Canice, William “Teddy” Theadore, Tyler Williams and Taylor Elayne; a brother, James Canty and his wife, Gerl, of Seneca; and a father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Geneva Williams of Barnwell.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Louis Canty.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion AME Zion Church, Lancaster.

MANNING — Ralph Ferrell Cothran Sr., 80, widower of Ruth DuBose Cothran, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1921, in Manning, he was a son of the late Ralph Dillard Cothran and Mamie Ferrell Cothran. He was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran and a lawyer, practicing law from 1949 to 1995. He also served as probate judge of Clarendon County from 1995 to 1997 and as master in equity of Clarendon County from 1997 until his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Manning.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Ferrell Cothran Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Manning; a daughter, Debbie Joseph of Manning; a sister, Frances C. Brock of Summerton; three grandsons, Scott Ferrell Cothran, Michael Bailey Cothran and Marion Epps DuBose IV; and a granddaughter, Malloree Davidson Cothran.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth C. Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church at Manning with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery.

JAMES M. FRAZIER
James Marion Frazier, 78, widower of Idella Barnwell-Frazier, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 16, 1923, in Early Branch, Hampton County, he was a son of the late David Frazier and Mazie Frazier Witherspoon. He was a self-employed brick mason and carpenter and also served in the U.S. Army. He and his family settled in New York City for a number of years. Upon returning to Sumter in 1969, he joined the Church of God of Prophecy, where he served as an ordained deacon, superintendent and teacher of the adult Sunday school class.
Survivors include three sons, Lennie Frazier of Eastover, Darryl Frazier of Charlotte and Andre Frazier of Pace, Fla.; four daughters, Gloria Bertha-Frazier of Charlotte, Margarit Frazier-Dunn of Bronx, N.Y., Marilyn Frazier of Columbia and Katrinia Frazier Border of West Columbia; a sister, Elizabeth Gary of Sumter; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Frazier and Johnny Frazier; and two sisters, Della Green and Ethal Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Church of God of Prophecy with the Revs. David Sims, pastor, and Sammie L. Gary officiating, assisted by the Rev. Richard Jackson, evangelist Eva Miller, evangelist Ruth Major and Bishop Arthur Green. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
The funeral procession will leave at 3 p.m. Thursday from the home, 2 Montigue Court.
The casket will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
