BEN GREEN JR.
SUMMERTON — Ben Green Jr., 55, husband of Lillian Tindal Green, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at St. John Hospital in Detroit, Mich.
Born July 15, 1947, in Summerton, he was a son of the late Ben Green Sr. and Sue Robinson Green. He attended Clarendon County public schools and graduated from Scott’s Branch High School. He was a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church and was employed by Ford Motor Co. in Detroit.
Survivors besides his wife include a son, Tyrone Pack of Detroit; an adopted daughter, Angela Coleman of Detroit; three brothers, Sammy L. Green and his wife, Mamie, and John Green, all of Manning, and William Green of Sumter; and four sisters, Carrie Lee Johnson and her husband, Leroy, of Baltimore, Md., Sara Green and her husband, Leroy, of New York, N.Y., and Sue G. Wilson and Bobbie G. Johnson and her husband, Arthur, both of Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton, with the Rev. W.T. Johnson, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Sammy Lee and Mamie Ruth Green, 1193 K.W. Hodge Road, Summerton.
Dyson’s Home for Funerals-Summerton is in charge of arrangements.

GEORGE SANDERS SR.
REMBERT — Deacon George Sanders Sr., 70, husband of Sallie Dinkins Sanders, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born March 28, 1932, in Rembert, he was a son of the late James D. Sanders and Ella Young Sanders and stepson of Louise Sanders. He attended South Carolina public schools. He was a faithful member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, member of the C.H. Davis Choir, member of the Brotherhood organization and as church sexton for a number of years. He retired from Becker Sand and Gravel.
Survivors besides his wife and stepmother include three sons, Curtis Sanders and his wife, Kathy, of Rembert, William Sanders and his wife, Charity, of Sumter and Robert Lee Harrison of Philadelphia, Pa.; four daughters, Glamor Pringle and her husband, Larry, and Patricia Singleton and her husband, Silas, all of Rembert, Edith Harrison Wright and Suzanna Harrison, both of Philadelphia; four brothers, Tom Sanders and his wife, Lurine, Willie Sanders and his wife, Nancy, Edgar Sanders and his wife, Emily, and Owen Sanders, all of Rembert; six sisters, Fannie Dennis, Mamie E. Dinkins and Steral Singleton and her husband, John, all of Rembert, Mary Battle and her husband, Thomas, of Washington, D.C., Louise Graham and her husband, Samuel, of Sumter and Albertha Williams and her husband, Johnny, of New York, N.Y.; his mother-in-law, Katie Dinkins; a daughter-in-law, Susie G. Sanders; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four aunts; eight brothers-in-law; 11 sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, George Sanders Jr. and Benjamin Sanders; and three brothers, Joseph, James and John Sanders.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Rafting Creek Baptist Church, Rembert, with the Rev. Dr. C.H. Davis, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Willie Dennis, John Jasper, Willie Bellamy, Freddie Thomas and Minister John Kennedy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home, 5055 Dennis Road, Rembert.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

JOSEPHINE H. BETHUNE
MANNING — Josephine Hayward Bethune, 83, widow of Deacon Lawson Bethune Sr., died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born June 10, 1919, in the Huger section of Berkeley County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lydia Hayward.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Evangelist Mary Bethune, 9547 Bloomville Road, Manning.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

SANDRA A. JOSEY
BETHESDA, Md. — Sandra Ann Josey died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the National Institutions of Health in Bethesda.
She was a daughter of Ollie Mae Josey and Manning Josey Jr. She was a stepdaughter of the Rev. Roberta Josey.
The family will receive friends at 271 Poulas St., Sumter.
Services will be announced by James Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

JOSEPH M. MOZINGO JR.
BISHOPVILLE — Joseph M. Mozingo Jr. died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Lexington Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville.

SUDIE H. COKER
KINGSTREE — Sudie Herring Coker, 76, widow of Leonard E. Coker, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Dillon County, she was a daughter of the late McKiver and Blanch Ratley Herring. She was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty B. Watkins of Sumter and Linda Nesmith of Kingstree; a brother, Reddy Herring of Sumter; a sister, Edieth Jolly of Sumter; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Williamsburg Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kingstree Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Williamsburg Funeral Home of Kingstree is in charge of arrangements.

BEN GUNTER
Bennie Malcolm “Ben” Gunter, 67, husband of Joan Reed Gunter, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
Born in Marion, he was a son of the late Ben Gunter and Isadore Miller Gunter. He was a retired U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran and retired from Allstate Insurance Co.
Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, Benjamin William “Billy” Gunter and his wife, DeDe, of Raleigh, N.C., and David Malcolm Gunter and his wife, Suzanne, of Sumter; a brother, Ken Gunter and his wife, Jane, of Darlington; a sister, Joyce Gunter Wilson of Florence; four grandsons; a granddaughter; four nephews; two nieces; and special relatives in England.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Frankie Tanner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

LILLIE S. HILTON
MANNING — Lillie Ann Servance Hilton, 63, widow of Deacon James Hilton Sr., died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in Charleston.
Born Oct. 9, 1938, in Manning, she was a daughter of Oliver Servance and the late Gertrude Jones Servance. She was a stepdaughter of Lula Allean Servance. She attended Clarendon County public schools. In her youth, she attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors besides her father of Manning and stepmother of Lancaster, Penn., include a companion, Gilbert Ludd of the home; three sons, James Hilton Jr., Herbert Hilton and John Kenneth Hilton, all of Manning; two daughters, Shirley Hilton and Debra Hilton, both of Manning; six brothers, Oliver Servance Jr. and James Servance and his wife, Mary Lou, Raymond Servance and his wife, Daisy, and Joseph Servance and his wife, Margaretta, all of Manning, Willie Louis Servance and his wife, Esther, of Lancaster, Penn., and Isiah Servance and his wife, Rebecca, of Sumter; three sisters, Mamie Lucky and her husband, James, of Charlotte, N.C., and Ella Ree Pompey and Della Mae Cantey, both of Lancaster, Penn.; a step-brother, Johnny Robinson and his wife, Rosetta, of Manning; and a granddaughter, Michelda Samuels of Alcolu.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Greeleyville Highway, Manning, with the Rev. Gussie Ceasar, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jack Morant. Burial will be in Goodwill Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, Bloomville community of Manning.
The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home, 1204 Poston Lane, Manning.

DAVID E. MANNING
David Earl Manning, 38, husband of Naquita J. Manning, died Sunday,
Aug. 4, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born Feb. 24, 1964, in Tallahassee, Fla., he was a son of Robert Manning Jr. and Betty McPherson Manning. He attended Tallahassee public schools and graduated from Wakalla High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from Upper Iowa University. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Tallahassee. While residing in Sumter, he attended Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by Ashley Furniture Co. of Sumter.
Survivors besides his wife of the home and his parents include four daughters, Candance Manning and Cenecia Manning, both of Tallahassee, and Alexandra D. Manning and Amber Manning, both of Sumter; five brothers, Robert Manning III of Woodville, Fla., Ralph Manning of Crawfordville, Fla., Jeffrey Manning of Orlando, Fla., Mark and Brian Manning, both of Tallahassee; and two sisters, the Rev. Dr. Janet Cleary and Sharon Otley, both of Tallahassee.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Tallahassee. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery Association, Tallahassee.
Strong and Jones Funeral Home of Tallahassee is in charge of arrangements.
