TURBEVILLE — Thenia Blackmon Baird, 80, widow of Cullie Edison Baird, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born Oct. 7, 1922, in Rich Hill, she was a daughter of the late Chester Franklin Blackmon and Zelma Couch Blackmon. She was a member of New Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra B. Dukes and her husband, Marion W., of Turbeville; three brothers, C.F. Blackmon of Sumter, Donald Blackmon of Ocala, Fla., and Steve Blackmon of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; four sisters, Sara Bazzle of North Charleston, Hazeline Hill of Florence, Edith Aldrich of Ft. Wayne and Carolyn Truesdale of Camden; a granddaughter, Tonya D. Byrd and her husband, John Richard, of Turbeville; a grandson-in-law, Shamokin Gladden; and two great-grandchildren, John Richard Byrd II and Victoria-Lynn Byrd.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Misty Lynn Gladden; a brother, Waddell Blackmon; and two sisters, Margaret Holliday and Kathleen “Betty” Green.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. James Holliday officiating. Burial will be in New Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
Leslie Hill, Charlie Jernigan, Michael Dunlap, Loren Blackmon, Barry Blackmon, Barry Powell and Rodney Holliday will serve as pallbearers.

JOHNSONVILLE — Willie Joshua Barr, 63, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Bronx, N.Y.
Born Jan. 26, 1939, in Florence County, he was a son of the late Richard and Alberta Cuttino Barr. He was a graduate of Battery Park High School, Hemingway. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two brothers, Joseph Barr of Baltimore and Bobby Barr of Bronx; and a sister, Bettie Barr of Bronx.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Mt. Beulah Believers Holiness Church, Vox community, Johnsonville, with Elder Otis Graham officiating. Burial will be in Eaddy-Ford Cemetery, Johnsonville.
The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

BISHOPVILLE — Thelma B. Brown, 95, widow of Neely Brown, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.
Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas James Brown and Sarah Bazelia Brown. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include a stepson, James Brown of Savannah, Ga.; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three stepdaughters, Lottie B. Pack, Bessie McLeod and Evleen B. Hudson; a stepson, Johnny Brown; and four brothers, Barnie Brown, Ellie Brown, Harvey Brown and Hoyt Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home with the Revs. Gene Stokes and Leslie Davis officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

SUMMERTON — Clice Mae Corbett Davis, 64, wife of Richard Marion Davis, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at her home in Summerton.
Born Feb. 3, 1938, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Charles Benjamin “Mood” Corbett and Vivian Newman Corbett. She was a member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church. She was a retired seamstress.
Survivors besides her husband of Summerton include a son, Richard M. “Ricky” Davis Jr. of Manning; a daughter, Linda Davis of Summerton; a sister, Judy Marie Dykes of Statesboro, Ga.; and a grandson, Jerry Lane Coker Jr.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mood Corbett Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Bennie Turner officiating. Burial will be in Summerton Evergreen Cemetery.

James “Fluddie” Herbert Jackson, 61, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born July 19, 1941, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Brailey and Neola Johnson Jackson. He was a 1960 graduate of Eastern High School and a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Mayesville. He was employed by Boykin Warehouse, Rowland Warehouse, and Santee Print Works.
Survivors include a companion, Lucille Washington of Mayesville; a son, Carl Cooper of Mayesville; a daughter, Cherrie “Tracey” Greene of Mayesville; a sister, Lillie M. Jackson of Washington, D.C.; an aunt, Sarah Blackwell of Mayesville; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry “Monkey” Jackson; and an aunt, Della Lesane.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Mark United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Thomas Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mayesville Cemetery.

LYNCHBURG — Rosa Spann McCray, widow of William McCray, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Faith Nursing Center in Florence.
Born March 9, 1924, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Alonza and Louvenia Spann. She attended Lee County public schools and was a lifelong member of King Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Geardline Spann and Annie Mae McCray, both of Lynchburg, and Retha Mae McCray of Bishopville; a sister, Evelina Williams of Lynchburg; and a special niece, Rosa F. Green.
She was preceded in death by three siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at King Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lynchburg with the Revs. Michael Fullard, pastor, and Robert Rabb officiating. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

Born May 9, 1950, in Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late Annie Bell Barron and Izell Barron.
Survivors include three brothers, Herbert Pressley and James Barron, both of Lake City, and Raymond Barron of North Carolina; and nine sisters, Jannie Pressley and her husband, Seth, Mary McKnight and her husband, Alfonza, Debra Cooper and her husband, Joe, Pearlease Barron, Deloris McFadden and her husband, Keith Singletary, Lisa Barron and her husband, Andra Henneghan, Diane Fulton and her husband, David, Christine Scott and her husband, William, and Pearlease Hanna, all of Lake City.
He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Brown.

SURF CITY, N.C. — Annelle N. James, wife of Earl J. James, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at her home in Surf City.
She was born July 27, 1934, in Watha, N.C. She was a former employee of Fort Roofing Co. and The Item newspaper.
Survivors besides her husband of Surf City include three sons, Tony, David and Douglas James, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter Susan J. Metz of Cape Coral, Fla.; a sister, Annette Gillies of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

MANNING — Lunette Sartor Robinson, 101, widow of Elder Marcellus F. Robinson, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 11, 1901, she was a daughter of the late Rev. William and Ida Sartor. She attended the public schools of Newberry and Greenwood counties. She attended Allen University and received a bachelor of science degree from Morris College. She began teaching, which spanned more than 40 years in the public schools of Newberry, Conway and Sumter. Her affiliations were supervisor of Young People’s Department, Sunday school superintendent, class leader, chairperson of Area No. 3 of the Minister’s Wives Alliance, second vice president and treasurer of the Northeast Conference Branch Missionary Society, delegate to the Women’s Missionary Quadrennial for four consecutive times, life member of the Women’s Missionary Society, and supervisor of the Sumter District Missionary Society for 18 years.
Prior to her illness, she became a member of Mt. Pisgah AME Church, where she served as first vice president of the Missionary Society for eight years, a member of the Stewardess Board No. 3, and a recipient of the Mother of the Year Award.
Survivors include two daughters, Marjorie F. Saunders and her husband, Ronald, of Manning and Ruth Walker of Gary, Ind.; a brother, Tom Sartor of Newberry; a sister, Willie Hearns of Manning; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Pisgah AME Church in Sumter with the Rev. Juenarrl Keith, pastor, officiating, assisted by Elders R.L. McCants, John Gillison, Charles Graves, W.J. Nelson, Alonza Middleton, and the Revs. George P. Windley Sr. and S.R. Miott. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

BISHOPVILLE — Marion Dubose Berry Sr., 74, husband of Phyllis Sylvia Brown Berry, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
Born Nov. 22, 1927, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Joseph Kershaw Berry and Annie Victoria McCaskill Berry. He was a 1944 graduate of Bishopville High School. He was of the Truelight faith and was a member of High Hill Truelight Church at Lucknow. He was employed by Williams Furniture Co. in Sumter as a cabinetmaker.
Survivors besides his wife of 51 years include three sons, Marion D. Berry Jr. and his wife, Sherry H., of Florence, Joseph Kelvin Berry of Bishopville and David Alan Berry of Sumter; a very special aunt, Lila Mae Stokes of Columbia; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at High Hill Truelight Church at Lucknow. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
