Jeanette M. Congdon Ardis, 73, widow of Clarence Ardis, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cortland, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Clinton Congdon and Emily Gingrich Congdon. She attended Calvary Church of the Nazarene, where she was a member of the ladies Sunday school class.
Survivors include four sons, Allan C. Ardis of Tampa, Fla., Stephen R. Ardis of Missouri, William C. Ardis of Pinewood and Michael R. Ardis of Wakefield, R.I.; a daughter, Cheryl Morse of Sumter; a brother, Dr. Wayne Congdon of Indianapolis; a sister, Lorraine Barringer of Utica, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held at noon today at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. G.W. Harrell officiating.

Sandra “Sandy” Ardis, 60, wife of Robert A. Ardis Sr., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Colon Republic of Panama, she was a daughter of the late Horace D. Bishop and Blanche Campbell Bishop. She was owner and operator of Sandy’s Place. She taught in District 17 and was an honorary life member of the PTA, where she served as a past president of Wilder and Bates schools.
Survivors besides her husband include three sons, Curtiss M. Rivet and his wife, Liset, of Jacksonville, Fla., Russell M. Ardis Sr. and his wife, Melissa, and Robert “Ashley” Ardis Jr. and his wife, Minnie Sue, both of Sumter; four daughters, Robbin M. Donohue and her husband, Ed, of New Port Richey, Fla., Renee M. Herring and her husband, Joe, of Niceville, Fla., Scarlett M. Layne and her husband, Aaron, of Manning, and Sandra Dee Sinner and her husband, Curtis, of Sumter; two sisters, Bonnie Bishop of the Republic of Panama and Billie Greenwood of Baton Rouge, La.; a brother, Horace David Bishop of the Republic of Panama; and 23 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Alister McKay C.Ss.R. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Phillip Hawkins, Rick Nelson, Gene Ingram, John Murray DuBose, Ronald DuBose and Billy Ardis will serve as pallbearers.

JOHN DOZIER
COLUMBIA — John Dozier, 68, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Providence Hospital.
Born Dec. 3, 1933, in Lee County, he was a son of the late John Dozier Sr. and Sarah Butler Dozier. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served for four years of active duty. He was employed with Kraft Food Industries for 20 years as well as several other odd jobs.
Survivors include a son, Cedric Dozier of Newark, N.J.; three daughters, Denise, Sarah and Debra Dozier, all of Elizabeth, N.J.; two former wives, Shirley Adams Dozier of Elizabeth and Alberta Scott Dozier of Newark; two stepbrothers, Johnny and Boo Boo, both of Elizabeth; two stepsisters, Barbara and Gloria, both of Elizabeth; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Eric Dozier and Steven Dozier; a sister, Janie Mae Myers; and an aunt, Maggie Scarborough.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Eddie C. Thomas officiating, assisted by the Revs. James F. Williams and Frank E. Williams Sr. Burial will be in Cooksfield Cemetery in Dalzell.

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — U.S. Navy retired Cmdr. Harold Warren King, 70, husband of Frances Loren Lacewell, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in Winter Springs.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Harold Francis King and Wilma Player King Cox and stepson of the late George E. Cox. He was a 1951 graduate of Edmunds High School. He honorably retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service. He was a B/N in both the A-3 Skywarrior and A-6 Intruder and served four tours and 268 combat missions during Vietnam. He was a member of RRVA, CASbar, Intruder Association, American Legion, DAV, VFW, VVA, and Fleet Reserve.
Survivors besides his wife of 51 years include three sons, Harold G. of Richmond, Va., Barry G. of Virginia Beach, Va., and Gordon M. of Apopka, Fla.; two daughters, Deborah K. Barnes of Summerland Key, Fla., two brothers, George G. Cox of Sumter, S.C., and Edward L. Cox of Hillsboro, N.C.; four sisters, Ann King Marsh of Summerton, S.C., and Helen King McLeod, Patsy C. Dees and Pamela C. Davis, all of Sumter; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Friday, Nov. 15, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Winter Springs. Burial with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Rosa Lee “Nizia” Owens, widow of Robert Owens, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 25, 1926, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Leo Dave and Nancy Sinkler Gayle. She attended Sumter County public schools and was a member of Orangehill RUME Church in Wedgefield.
Survivors include a son, Larry Green of Wedgefield; a special niece and caregiver, Elizabeth Sarah Charles; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a number of children; a brother, David “Sonny” Gayle; and two sisters, Willio Gayle Conyers and Sarah Lee Gayle Floyd.

PINEWOOD — Lutisha Pringle, widow of Gurney Pringle, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at her home.
Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Louis Toby Singleton and Rebecca C. Singleton. She attended Sumter County public schools. In her youth, she joined Enon Baptist Church.
She later became a member of St. John Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Harry Pringle of Philadelphia, John Earl Pringle of Pinewood and Robert Lee Pringle and his wife, Roberta, of Sumter; four daughters, Carrie Hunt and her husband, James, of New Jersey, Mildred Plummer of Richmond, Va., Ellen Johnson and her husband, Earnest, of Philadelphia, and Annie Mae Green and her husband, Hiram, of Sumter; 34 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Moses Pringle, Herbert Pringle and Willie Lee Pringle; and a daughter, Francis Pringle. Wake services will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
