MANNING — Roberta Stukes McCray, 44, wife of John Allen McCray, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia.
Born Dec. 28, 1958, in Summerton, she was a daughter of Mary Ann Brown Stukes and the late Robert Stukes Sr. She was a graduate of Scott Branch High School Class of 1976 and received a B.A. degree and master’s degree from S.C. State University. She was a member of Church of God by Faith, where she was a Sunday school teacher, missionary, deaconess and served in many other capacities. She was presently employed at Clarendon County School District 1.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher E. and Rodrigues J. McCray, both of Manning; a daughter, Jennifer N. McCray of Manning; four brothers, Robert A. Stukes Jr., Haywood L. (Claudia) Stukes of Greensboro, N.C., Micheal W. Stukes of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Carl W. (Mellissa) Stukes of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Mamie L. Stukes of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Ty’Mya Nakel; and a foreign exchange student, Lulsa Stranz of Germany.
The remains will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at My Fathers House, Summerton, with Bishop Raymond Holliday, pastor, and Elder Cleveland P. McBride Sr. officiating, assisted by Elders Anthony Blocker, Thomas Davis, James Lucas, Mack S. Wilson and Caleb Gordon.
Burial will be in Church of God by Faith Cemetery, Davis Station.
The family will receive friends at her residence, 616 W. Huggins St., Manning.

RONNIE C. BROWN
Ronnie “Ron” C. Brown, 49, husband of Diosa Garcia Brown, died Feb. 3, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 13, 1953, in Minter, Ala., he was a son of Betty Rose Spencer and the late Franklin Williams. At an early age, he joined Philadelphia AME Church, until the family moved to Chicago. He joined Bethel Green M.B. Church, where he was baptized. He served on the junior usher board and sang in the choir. He later moved to Detroit, where he graduated from Northern High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and retired after 26 years from Shaw Air Force Base in 1998. He graduated from St. Leo College with honors (Summa Cum Laude) and was also a Desert Storm veteran.
Survivors besides his wife and mother include a son, Bryant Brown of Sumter; two daughters, Chynalinn Brown of Sumter and Rhonda Brown of Sumter; two brothers, Michael Spencer of Sumter and Willie Spencer (Allison) of Detroit; two sisters, Priscilla Womack of Detroit and Gayle Williams of Birmingham, Ala.; stepmother, Velma Williams; special grandaunt, Elizabeth Mapp of Orangeburg; a mother-in-law and father-in-law of the Philippines; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter, with the Rev. Larry Weston, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Ken Choice and Phillip Williams.
The body will be placed in the church Saturday at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

IVORY J. GRAHAM
LYNCHBURG — Ivory James Graham departed his life on Feb. 4, 2003.
He was the son of Reatha McFadden Graham and the late James Graham Jr. He was born March 1, 1954, in Lee County. Mr. Graham was educated in the public schools of Lee County. He was a member of St. Matthew AME Church and graduated Class of 1973 of Mt. Pleasant High School in Elliott. He was employed with the Washington Hospital Center as a supervisor of laundry.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Reatha McFadden Graham; one son, Ivory James Graham Jr.; three daughters, Iveryette Graham, Santrell Primas and Saleta Renee Graham; one stepdaughter, Zendi Crosson; six grandchildren; seven brothers, Charlie and Laverne Graham of Bishopville, Johnny and Otis Graham of Lynchburg, Eugene Graham of Rimini, Carl Graham of Sumter and Billy Graham of Columbia; and two sisters, Ruth Jackson and Carolyn Graham Murray.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew AME Church, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Sammie L. Gary, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sanders Cemetery, Lynchburg.
The funeral procession will leave the home of his mother, 147 Friendly Lane, Lynchburg, at 12:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family and floral bearers will be friends of the family.

Leola Marie LeGros Cook, 80, wife of Thomas H. Cook, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Biloxi, Miss., she was a daughter of Edgar LeGros and Amelia LeJeune LeGros.
Mrs. Cook was a volunteer and supporter of the SPCA.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a son, Robert Cook of Farmington, N.Y.; four daughters, Lori Cook Briggs and Cindy Cook, both of Sumter, Paula Byrd of Huntsville, Ala., and Sharon Butler of Saratoga, Calif.; a brother, George LeGros of Illinois; and 12 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas H. Cook Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Atkinson officiating.

TURBEVILLE — Benjamin “Moses” Fleming, 90, husband of Roberta Garland Fleming, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Carolina Hospital System, Florence.
Born Oct. 29, 1913, in the Turbeville section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Isaac Fleming and Lula Benjamin Fleming. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. In his youth, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until his health failed.
Survivors include a daughter, Edna Carson of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Julia (Julius) Johnson of Turbeville, Rosa Johnson of Raleigh, N.C., and Sudie Herring of East Orange, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Carnell Fleming; a brother, David Fleming; and three sisters, Maggie McFadden, Reva Wilson and Leola Fleming.
The remains will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church, Turbeville. The Rev. Shelley Hickson, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

Virginia “Jenny” Gertrude Prescott, 93, widow of Taylor Prescott, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at a local nursing center.
Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Hartwell Barnes and the late Amanda Eugenia Hodge Barnes.
Mrs. Prescott was a member of Lewis Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Leon Prescott of Sumter; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Phillips and the Rev. Jerry Watson officiating.

Sidney B. Britt, 75, widower of Em Johnston Britt, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at a local nursing center.
Born in Elizabethtown, N.C., he was a son of the late Cula H. Britt and the late Lena Blackmon Britt.
Mr. Britt was a retired automobile mechanic with Bundy Motor Co. with 22 years of service.
Surviving are a son, Larry D. Britt of Sumter; two daughters, Ginger B. Griffin and Cindy B. Cribb, both of Sumter; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Jerry Rodney Mills, of Wytheville, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
He was the son of the late Harold K. and Margaret C. “Polly” Mills. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 9, the Wytheville Moose Lodge and Wytheville Golf Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from U.S. Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia.
He is survived by one son, Jerry Rodney Mills Jr. of Tujunga, Calif.; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Desanto and Loura Lynn Serody, both of Philadelphia; a brother and sister-in-law, Hal and Shelby Mills of Sumter; a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Vance Hash of Rural Retreat; special friends, Pat King of Rural Retreat and Eric and Christy King of Wytheville; four grandchildren; two nieces; three nephews; and many friends at Glisan’s and Turn One restaurants.

GABLE — Hayward W. Rhodes, 83, husband of Leola Johnson Rhodes, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Palmetto Richland Medical Center in Columbia.
Born July 1, 1919, in the Gable section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Martin Rhodes and Amy Bines Rhodes. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He joined Melina Presbyterian Church, USA, and served as an elder for many years. A member of the NAACP Manning branch, he was self employed as a farmer his whole life, retiring in 1987.
Survivors other than his wife include a son, Hayward E. (Patricia Eady) Rhodes Sr. of the home; a daughter, Haretha L. (Rev. Dr. Johnny L.) Ceasar of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sisters, Martha McFadden of Miami, Elizabeth Johnson of Bronx, N.Y. and Rosa Lee Cratch of Rembert; and four grandchildren, Lakeisha D. Rhodes, Hayward E. Rhodes Jr., Cassandra Rhodes, all of the home, and Trevor T. Ceasar of Brooklyn.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, Elex, Johnny and Sidney Rhodes; and two sisters, Emma Boyd and Rebecca Jenkins.
