ANDERSON — Mildred Gaynell Durham Hubbard, 60, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at her residence.
Born March 9, 1942, in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Elzy Hunnicutt Durham and the late Clifton Alonzo Durham. She was a homemaker.
Survivors besides her mother of the home include a son, Robert Hubbard Jr. of Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Tina Felker and Valerie Felker, both of Anderson; a brother, James Durham of Iva; two sisters, Rose Wilson of Sumter and Jeanette Davis of Anderson; and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Hart and the Rev. Mike Harrell officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Gardens Inc., Anderson.
The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home.
The family will be at the residence, 1321 Pearl Harbor Way, Anderson, and at the home of her sister, Jeanette Davis, 107 Iva St., Anderson.

VIRGINIA W. JOHNSON
PINEWOOD — Virginia Warley Johnson was born Oct. 15, 1908, in Clarendon County. She was a daughter of the late James Warley and Priscilla Gibson Warley. She was married to the late Purdy Johnson Sr.
On Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, she eternally rested at the Windsor Manor Healthcare System in Summerton.
In her youth, she attended Mt. Zero Baptist Church in Manning. After marriage, she joined New Hope AME Church, where she served faithfully on the missionary and stewardess board. She was also the mother of the church.
Survivors are five children, Woodrow (Hattie) Johnson of Pinewood, Solomon (Cleo) Johnson of Sumter, Evelyn Johnson of Pinewood, Virginia Walker of Columbia and Gardenia (Lawrence) Green of Rimini; one sister, Gardenia Fair of Columbia; two additional sisters-in-law, Ruth Warley of Wilmington, N.C., and Evelyn Gallishaw of Richmond, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, six brothers and eight children.
Funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday at New Hope AME Church, Pinewood, with the Rev. J.D. Seawright, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Roosevelt Boyd, the Rev. Jack Dais, the Rev. James Robinson, the Rev. Edward Moultrie Sr. and the Rev. E.J. Timmons. Burial will follow in the New Hope Community Cemetery.

Consuelo Esperanza Delgado Rodriguez, age 78, beloved wife of Juan Santiago Rodriguez, died on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Cuba, the daughter of the late Ramon Delgado and Rosa Camara Arias.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Juan Oscar Rodriguez and his wife, Patsy, and Angel Rodriguez and his wife, Lourdes, both of Miami; two daughters, Marcia Pages of Miami and Rosa Munoz and her husband, Al, of Sumter; one brother, Angel Delgado of Cuba; two sisters, Georgina Delgado and Rosa Delgado, both of Miami; five grandchildren, Luis Fernandez, David Fernandez, Lissette Rodriguez, Dianna Rodriguez and Sonny Rodriguez; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ramon Delgado and Manuel Delgado; and one sister, Inez Delgado.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glen Maxson officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Irene Kennedy Burrows Vaughan, 93, widow of Samuel Lafayette Vaughan, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Morningside of Sumter.
Born in Congaree, Richland County, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Colclough and Irene Moore Burrows.
Mrs. Vaughan graduated from Sumter High School, Winthrop College, and the University of South Carolina, where she received a master’s of education.
She served in education for 43 years. She taught in Sumter County; at Saxon Elementary, Spartanburg; at Manzanar and Trona, California; and in Sumter District 17. She was a principal at Crosswell Drive Elementary School in Sumter and retired as coordinator of elementary education for Sumter District 17.
She was a member of the Sumter County Education Association, the South Carolina Education Association, the National Education Association, the South Carolina Association for Supervision and Curriculum, the South Carolina Elementary School Principal’s Association, the National Elementary School Principal’s Association, the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and the National Administrators Association. She was past president of the Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Mrs. Vaughan was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sumter and active in the church circle. She was a member of the Sumter Pilot Club, the Sumter County Genealogical Society and the Sumter County Mental Health Association.
Survivors include two nieces, Caroline B. Lawson of Greenville and I. Adele Burrows of Sumter; three great-nieces; two great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; and one great-great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Alexander Moore Burrows.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Edward McLeod, Dr. Thomas Johnson, and the Rev. Walt Phillips officiating.
Burial will be at Tirzah Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Dalzell.

LAURINBURG, N.C. — Mary Alice Pritchard Harvin, 77, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Saint Luke United Methodist Church in Laurinburg and officiated by the Rev. Mack McMillan. The family will receive friends at 13361 Maplewood Drive following the service.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Paxville Cemetery in Paxville, S.C.
Mrs. Harvin is survived by her three children: David L. Harvin and his wife, Sue, of Chapel Hill, John P. Harvin and his wife, Judi, of Spangdahlem Air Force Base, Germany, and Mary Harvin McDonald and her husband, Max, of Laurinburg. She cherished her role as grandmother to Anna Reid Harvin, Maggie Lynne Harvin, Emily Grace McDonald and William Reid McDonald.
Mrs. Harvin was born on Dec. 13, 1925, in Sumter, S.C., daughter of John Levy Pritchard and Ethel Corbett Pritchard. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter and graduated from Columbia College with honors in 1947 with a bachelor of arts degree in English. She received a master’s of education in guidance and counseling from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1972.
Mrs. Harvin was an educator, serving as an English teacher at Laurinburg and Scotland high schools before becoming a guidance counselor in 1969. After her retirement in 1990, she spent much of her time involved in volunteer work, including Meals on Wheels and visiting residents at Scotia Village. Her love for travel led her to participate in more than 10 elderhostels.
During her lifetime, Mrs. Harvin was devoted to her church and her calling to be a servant of Christ. She was a charter member of Saint Luke United Methodist Church and held many positions of leadership through the years including pianist, choir director, Sunday school teacher, and president of her beloved United Methodist Women. In recent years, she led Disciple Bible Studies and Stephen Ministry Training.

Born in Okmulgee, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Scott Akison and Jolle Gaines. Mrs. Harrell was employed in the food industry as a cook for most of her working life. She attended the House of Prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith.
Survivors include two sons, Benjamin F. Harrell Jr. of Arizona and Wesley Harrell of California; one daughter, Melvinee (Elder Arthur) Nickelson of Sumter; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Leon K. Hawkins and Wilbert Harrell; two brothers, George Akison and Nolan Akison; and one grandchild, Floyd Harrell.
