WILLIAM R. MULLINS
William R. “Moon” Mullins, 73, husband of Naomi Allen Mullins, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Pikeville, Ky., he was a son of the late John W. Mullins and the late Mellie Payne Mullins.
Mr. Mullins was a Baptist and was retired from the United States Air Force.
Surviving are his wife of the home; a son, William R. Mullins and his wife, Brenda, of Pittsboro, N.C.; a daughter, Maudie Lou Barnes and her husband, Gil, of Sumter; two grandchildren, Nichols Ryan Mullins of Pittsboro, N.C., and Gillian Renae Barnes of Sumter; three sisters, Mary Zemo and Clara Harris, both of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Ida Jo Corey of Kingsport, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin D. Snelgrove officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 2955 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.
Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WILLENE J. GALLOWAY
Daisy Willene Jackson Galloway, 93, widow of Charles Thomas Galloway Sr., died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie W. Jackson and the late Daisy Viola Geddings Jackson.
Mrs. Galloway was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church where she served in the adult choir and the Singles Sunday School Class Secretary. She was a member of the Shepherd’s Center. She was retired from the textile industry after many years of service.
She was a devoted mother of two sons, Charles T. Galloway Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Covington, Ga., and Carl W. Galloway and his wife, Pat, of Sumter; three daughters, Dorothy G. Gardenhire and her husband, Bill, Betty G. Ardis and her husband, Wilbur, and Deborah G. Reynolds and her husband, Larry, all of Sumter; seven grandchildren, John Gardenhire, Cindy Broome, Mike Ardis, Stan Ardis, Steve Galloway, Blair Murphy and Charles Galloway III; and five great-grandchildren, Ryan Broome, L.J. Gardenhire, Kevin Ardis, Courtney Ardis and Caitlin Russell.
The celebration of her going home will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Long and the Rev. Steven Rohrlack officiating. Burial will follow in Sumter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Norman Felder, Brooks Shumake, Bobby Rabon, Ernest Johnston, Jimmy Thigpen, Dennis Powell, Danny Burke and Kenny Brice.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Crosswell Baptist Church Choir, Dr. Usah Lilavivat and the staff of the Tuomey Healthcare System ICU.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Betty Ardis, 302 Stuckey St.
Memorials may be made to the Crosswell Baptist Church Choir Fund, 604 Mathis St., Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

RAY BRADLEY
BISHOPVILLE — Ray Bradley, husband of Bobbie Isaac Bradley, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.
The family will receive friends at the home, 150 Broad Acres in Bishopville.
Services will be announced by Square Deal Funeral Home.

DOUGLAS W. LABATT
Douglas Woodrow LaBatt, 85, widower of Margaret Haithcock LaBatt, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at a local nursing center.
Born in Ball, La., he was a son of the late John Francis LaBatt and the late Cora Alberta Miller LaBatt.
Mr. LaBatt was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church. He was a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 31, at the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

FLORA POULOS BRASWELL
Flora “Baby” Poulos Braswell, 75, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the Hope Hospice Center in Cape Coral, Fla.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Judge Moses James Moore Sr. and the late Flora Edens Moore. She was married to Gus N. Poulos of Sumter who predeceased her in 1986. In 1995, she married James Braswell, where they made their home in Bokeelia, Fla. She was a very active member of Cape Coral Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband of Bokeelia, Fla.; two sons, Nick Poulos of Cape Coral, Fla. and James L. Poulos of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; a daughter, Mary Ellen Hinchliffe of Monticello, Fla.; a stepson, Jimmy Braswell of Waco, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Linda Clayton of Waco; two sisters, Susan Hamilton of Sumter and Bessie Wadford of Freemont, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with Ministers Herbert Braswell and Ralph Braswell officiating. Burial will be in the Poulos family plot in the Sumter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jimmy Poulos and Gregory Hinchliffe and grandsons-in-law, Mike Liebno, Kevin Wescott, Leonard Volberg Jr. and Nicholas Holmes.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway East, Cape Coral, FL 33909.

MARJORIE J. SPELLEN
ATLANTA — Funeral services for Marjorie Jeffery Spellen of 2904 Arrowhead Drive in East Point, Ga., 30344, will be held Sunday, March 30, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2730 Brownsmill Road S.E., Atlanta, Ga., with Pastor Kenneth Moore officiating. Graveside interment services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2003, at Hillside Memorial Park on Cains Mill Road in Sumter with Pastor Eugene Mason of Berea Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sumter officiating.
Left to cherish her memories are four children, Patricia Spellen (James) Adair and Andrew (Liza) Spellen, all of Atlanta; Dr. Carol Spellen of Seal Beach, Calif., and Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Spellen of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Orr of London, England; several nieces, nephews and a goddaughter, Faith Harding of Houston, Texas.
Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter is in charge of local services.

JOHN H. WOODS
TURBEVILLE — John Harold Woods, husband of Mrs. Ann Louise Woods, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of Mr. Mack Swain Woods and Mrs. Marie Andrews Woods Player.
He was employed in the trucking industry prior to his retirement. His education was obtained in the public schools of Clarendon County.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Willie Woods Wells of Turbeville; two daughters, Ms. Rose Marie Woods of Baltimore, Md., and Ms. Sylvia A. Rogers of Turbeville; a brother, Mr. Clayton Woods of Philadelphia, Pa.; four sisters, Evangelist Ophelia Woods of Turbeville, Ms. Doris Woods of New York, N.Y., Ms. Franzellow Woods of Philadelphia and Ms. Joyce Woods of Salisbury, Md.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Harold Woods Jr. and two brothers, Simon Woods and Forrest Woods.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Turbeville with the Rev. Zander Davis and the Rev. Loucious Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and floral bearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends at 2232 William Gibbon Road in Turbeville.

LULA L. PALMER
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Lula Lawson Palmer, 85, widow of Gabriel Palmer, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at a hospital in New York.
Born in the St. Paul community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Edisto Lawson and Eliza Walters Lawson.
Survivors include her brother, Henry (Faye) Lawson of Summerton.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Emanuel AME Church in New York. Burial will be in a local cemetery.
Amsterdam Memorial Chapel in New York is in charge of arrangements.

EDDIE RICE
Eddie Rice, 63, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at his home.
Born Aug. 18, 1939, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Willie Rice and Lucille Boone Rice.
The family will receive friends at his home, 416 Highland Ave.
Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

HARVIN GRANT SR.
COLUMBIA — Harvin Grant Sr., 75, husband of Laura Floyd Grant, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 1, 1928, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late William “Bill” McCoy and Elese Grant McCoy.
The family will receive friends at the home, 4600 Borden Road in Rembert.
Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

RAY BRADLEY
BISHOPVILLE — Ray Bradley, 68, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Carolina Pines Medical Center in Hartsville.
Born in Lee County, Ray was the youngest child of the late Clarence and Alice Harris Bradley. He graduated from Dennis High School and attended Allen University for four years where he majored in history. He spent his career as a brick mason, accepting jobs all over the state of South Carolina. At the age of 12, he accepted Christ in his life and joined St. John AME Church where he was an active member serving on the trustee board. He was a faithful member of Sandy Bluff No. 44 Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Isaac Bradley, a son, Raymond Bradley of Charleston; a daughter, Dana B. (Tavarie) Taylor of Pendleton, also two children, Everett Johnson and Evette Johnson, both of Trenton, N.J.; a brother, Samuel Bradley of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Dollie (Dewitt) Williams of St. Stephens; and Perteau Coleman of Raway, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
A wake will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Square Deal Funeral Home, 106 McIntosh St.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 31, at St. John AME Church in Bishopville with the Rev. Moses Hamlin Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Phillip Mixon and the Rev. James Rutledge. The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. for viewing.

CALVIN SMITH
MIAMI, Fla. — Mr. Calvin Smith died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Miami.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Ollie Mae Simon Thompson and Mr. Johnnie Thompson, at 3722 Mallett Road in the Sugar Hill community of Manning on Monday, March 31.
Fleming & DeLaine Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of services.

DAVID W. GARRISON
David Wayne Garrison, 43, husband of Diana Lowery Garrison, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at The Dorn Veterans Medical Center in Columbia.
Born in Houma, La., he was a son of Neatha Newman Garrison of Cleveland, Miss. and the late Burvis D. Garrison. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant for 14 1/2 years and served during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He received the following commendations: the AF Achievement Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the AF Overseas Long Term Ribbon, and the AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon. He later worked as a mechanic at Bob’s Automotive. He was a member of The Time Off Club, The APA and was a former member of the Emanuel Baptist Church in Cleveland.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two sons, David Wayne Garrison Jr. and Dwight Allen Garrison, both of Sumter; two daughters, Athena Garrison Quarles and her husband, John, of Shaw Air Force Base and Julie Ann Garrison of Sumter; three brothers, Curtis Garrison, Jim Garrison and Eddie Garrison, all of Cleveland; a grandchild, Michael Allen Quarles, who was born on March 21, 2003.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Richard Garrison.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. Internment at Florence National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home to handle the arrangements.

MARIE J. FELDER
BISHOPVILLE — Marie J. Felder, widow of Addison Felder, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Carolina Pines Hospital in Hartsville.
She was born Feb. 14, 1912.
The family will receive friends at 2377 Camden Highway in Bishopville.
Services will be announced by Boatwright Funeral Home.

RACHEL T. BEASLEY
BISHOPVILLE — Rachel T. Beasley, 56, wife of Clyde N. “Bubba” Beasley Jr., died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at her home.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Gilford Tidwell and the late Geneva Brown Tidwell.
Mrs. Beasley was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of Mayesville, two daughters, Janet Welch and her husband, Larry, of Bishopville and Kim Anderson and her husband, Pete, of Sumter; a son, Trey Beasley of Charleston; three sisters, Frances Rembert, Marie Geddings and Becky Hanna, all of Sumter; four brothers, Wayne Tidwell of Stapleton, Ala., Sammy Tidwell, Jimmy Tidwell and Joe Tidwell, all of Bishopville; five grandchildren, Shane Welch, Dal Welch, Kellee Welch, Brian Anderson and Kayla Anderson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Tidwell and Ronnie Tidwell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Stokes and the Rev. Freddie Gaymon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2514 Raccoon Road in Mayesville.
Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund. Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ROSA L. FORD
Rosa L. Ford died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Tuomey Healthcare Systems.
The family will receive friends at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Robert and Mary Bell Tomlin, 1005 Nathanel St. Sumter.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary.
