CHRISTINE CARTER
LYNCHBURG — Christine Carter, wife of Jacob Carter, died Sunday,
June 2, 2002, at her home.
The family will receive friends at the home, 348 Main St.
Services will be announced by Jefferson Funeral Home of Lynchburg.

MAMIE BACHUS
Mary Mable “Mamie” Dietze Bachus, 94, widow of Wynard Edwin Bachus, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Covenant Place.
Born in Qulin, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Ernest Emil Dietze and Emelia Acherman Dietze. She was raised by her late aunt, Etta M. Bush. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Bethany Sunday School Class. She was formerly employed as the ready-to-wear buyer for Sumter Dry Goods and formerly owned and operated the Little Hat Shoppe.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Bachus Johnson of Summerton; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Teddy M. Johnson IV.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Burns officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 107 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to Covenant Place, 2825 Carter Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

KENLY BURROUGHS JR.
Kenly Burroughs Jr., 54, husband of Mattie Bradley Burroughs, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at his home.
Born Feb. 11, 1948, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Rosa Lee Spann Burroughs. He attended Lee County public schools and Sumter Area Technical College. He was a member of Greater St. Paul Non-Denominational Church, where he attended Sunday school and morning services on a regular basis. He joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and served two years of active duty. His tours of duty included Fort Jackson, Columbia; Fort Dix, Fort Dix, N.J.; Germany and Vietnam. He received two purple hearts, an air medal, Army commendation medal, good conduct, national defense, Vietnam service medals, combat infantryman badge and a Republic of Vietnam comagin ribbon with device, 1960. He was employed at Shaw Air Force Base for 30 years, retiring in November 1999.
Survivors besides his wife include a son, Kenny Lemonta Burroughs of Sumter; a daughter, Rosemary B. Wilson and her husband, Mackie T., of Sumter; two brothers, Freddie Burris of Wallington, N.J., and Harmond Spann Jr. of Patterson, N.J.; three adopted brothers, Wendell Green, Joe Colclough and James Wilson; three sisters, Garon Isaac of Sumter, Annie Ledwell of Willingboro, N.J., and Maggie McDonald of Timmonsville; three grandchildren; and a number of uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ulysses Burris.
Viewing services will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Job’s Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Non-Denominational Church in Sumter with Bishop W.T. English, pastor, officiating, assisted by Elder James Johnson. Burial will be in Bishop W.T. English Memorial Park Cemetery, Illery and Congruity Road.
The family will receive friends at the home, 247 Gibbons Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greater St. Paul Non-Denominational Church Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 937, Sumter, SC 29151.

BEATRICE T. CARAWAY
MAYESVILLE — Beatrice Ann Thibodeau Caraway, 55, wife of Clarence Daniel Caraway, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Charleston, she was a daughter of Wallace G. Thibodeau and Zula Blackwell Thibodeau. She was a member of Home Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband of Mayesville and her parents of Mayesville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. John Hall officiating. Burial will be in Home Branch Baptist Church cemetery in Manning.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home, 16 Salem St., Mayesville.
Memorials may be made to Home Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, Route 1, Box 770, Manning, SC 29102.

CURTIS GRAHAM
CADES — Curtis Graham, 33, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born Jan. 4, 1969, in Florence County, he was a son of Neomia Graham. He was a graduate of Lake City High School.
Survivors include three sisters, Jackie Graham Burgess of Lake City, Chantel Graham and Sherrie A. Stuckey, both of the home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Deep River Street, Lake City, with the Rev. T.J. Barrett officiating. Burial will be in Lake City.
The casket will be placed in the church at noon.
The funeral procession will leave from the home of his mother, 18 Ditchbank Road, Cades.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother.
Green’s Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.

CORA L. HUDSON
Cora Leviner Hudson, 75, widow of Robert Marvin Hudson Jr., died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Rockingham, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Berry Leviner and Donnie Leviner Leviner. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was retired from Pinewood Manufacturing Company.
Survivors include a son, David Shealy of Sumter; a stepson, Glen Hudson of Manning; four daughters, Josephine Boley and Donna Difford, both of Sumter, Linda Gregory of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Brenda Shealy of Columbia; six brothers, James Leviner and Benny Leviner, both of Gary, Ind., Jimmy Leviner of Raleigh, N.C., Henry Leviner of Wadesboro, N.C., Charles Leviner and Harvey Leviner, both of Hamlet, N.C.; three sisters, Pauline Cooper, Mary Ingram and Alice Leviner, all of Hamlet; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Leviner; and two sisters, Lucy Woolard and Donnie Leviner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. James Grasty and the Rev. G.W. Harrell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Grandsons, Randy Helms, Thomas Mays, Tripp Mays and deacons of Bethel Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughters on Nazarene Church Road.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church “Arise and Build” Fund.

RICHARD McCOY
Richard McCoy, 82, husband of Pearline Williams McCoy, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Hopewell HealthCare Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1919, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Virginia Boyd.
Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Edna McCoy of Sumter; a grandson, Richard Lee Montgomery; a great-grandson, Lt. Lee McKnight and his wife, Keesha; and two great-great-granddaughters, Erica Bell and Kierra McKnight.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the parlor of Job’s Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. H.B. Shaw officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Florence.
The family will receive friends at the home, 237 E. Calhoun St.

LAURA G. McLEOD
PAXVILLE — Laura Janette Griffin McLeod, 76, widow of S.O. McLeod, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.
Born Dec. 12, 1925, in Pinewood, she was a daughter of the late Charles Laurence Griffin Sr. and Naomi Geddings Griffin. She was a graduate of Pinewood High School and a member of Paxville Baptist Church, where she taught GA’s and Sunday school and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. She was former owner of S.O. McLeod Grocery in Paxville.
Survivors include two sons, Laurence Wade McLeod and his wife, Libby, and Simeon O’Donnell “Don” McLeod Jr. of Paxville; a daughter, Lois Janette McLeod Brown and her husband, Donnie, of Paxville; a brother, Graham Griffin of Pinewood; two sisters, Ruth Griffin Aycock of Sumter and Naomi Griffin McCutcheon of Bishopville; seven grandchildren, Andrew McLeod, Susan Nesbitt, Joseph McLeod, Neal Brown, Lorin Brown, Laura Hinman and Wade Brown; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and two brothers, C.L. Griffin Jr. and Rhinehart Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Paxville Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Robert McCarthy, Steve Morris, Charles Griffin III, Gregg McCutcheon III, Billy Simon and Cecil Scott will serve as pallbearers.
The staff of Lake Marion Nursing Facility will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of Don McLeod, 10629 Scott Ave., U.S. 15, Paxville.

RAYMOND L. KIBEL
Raymond Lee Kibel, husband of Robbie Jean Young Kibel, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at National Health Care of Sumter from complications of Alzheimer’s.
He was born in Bayfield, Colo. He was a graduate of Fullerton Union High School in Fullerton, Calif., The Art Center in Los Angeles and California State University Long Beach with a degree in secondary education. He taught at the Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif., and attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors besides his wife of 50 years include a daughter, Debbie Martin and her husband, Jay, of Sumter; a granddaughter, Lauren Lee Martin; a nephew, Craig Ahrens and his three children, Kristen, Matthew and Britney of Lake Forest, Calif.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert Stillwell officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Mid-State SC Chapter, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044.

ELLA N. BRAND
MANNING — Ella Ree Nelson Brand, 73, widow of Albert Brand, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born May 6, 1929, in Elloree, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Nelson and Marie Willis Nelson.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

JOHNNIE F. SMITH
NEW ZION — Johnnie Fitzgerald “Gerald” Smith, 28, of 2206 Lake Woodberry Circle, Brandon, Fla., died Monday, June 3, 2002, at 10932 Black River Road, New Zion.
Born Sept. 9, 1973, in Sumter, he was a son of Johnnie L. Smith Jr. and Betty McFadden Smith.
The family will receive friends at the home of his parents, 10932 Black River Road, in New Zion.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

ELMORE McCLAM
Elmore McClam died Monday, June 3, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Florence, he was a son of the late Joe and Laura Edith Jones McClam.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Ossie and Leroy Price, 76 McCormick Drive in Sumter.
Services will be announced by Scriven Funeral Home.

SIREATHA C. EDWARDS
LYNCHBURG — Sireatha C. Edwards, wife of Longfellow Edwards, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at Regency Medical Center in Florence.
The family will receive friends at 545 Pudding Swamp Road, Lynchburg.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc.

HARRIETT EDITH BREWER
MANNING — Harriett Edith Brewer, 62, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Charleston.
Born Aug. 6, 1940, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Millard Garrell Brewer and the late Harriett Rebecca Bagnal Brewer. She was retired secretary of Walker Tire Company and was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Barney Lee Brewer Morris of Turbeville, Becky Brewer Bradham and her husband, Johnny, of Mt. Pleasant, Martha Herlong and her husband, Don, of Sumter; a brother, William “Bill” Brewer and his wife, Irene, of Manning; seven nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bethea Morris.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel in Manning. The Rev. Clyde Bagnal and the Rev. George Gain will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Manning.
Pallbearers will be Roger Flowers Jr., Robby Jordan, Michael Fleck, Mike Windham, Cag Brunson, Shannon Barwick, Kerry Brewer and Darrell Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Walker Tire Company.
The family will be at the residence in Bloomville.
Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Methodist Church, 1060 Colonels Run, Manning, SC 29102.
