Born May 5, 1903, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the later Mr. Thomas Jackson and Mrs. Martha Streeter Jackson.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Brenda Knox, L-7 Summer Arms Apartments, Sumter.

MAYESVILLE — Ola Mae Edwards, 70, widow of Israel Edwards, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born Sept. 26, 1932, in Paxville, she was a daughter of Wilma Canty and the late Purdy Brunson.
The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, 15 Dignity Village, Sumter.

MARTHA M. WILLIAMS
MANNING — Martha Lee Murray Williams, 48, wife of Jasper Lee Williams, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 31, 1954, in the Forreston community of Clarendon County.
The family will receive friends at the home, 3931 South Brewington Road, Manning.
Services will be announced by Fleming & DeLaine Funeral Home of Manning.
J. LAVERN DRIGGERS
Jasper Lavern Driggers, 62, husband of Evelyn Walling Driggers, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his home.
Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Bligon Driggers and the late Alma Hanford Driggers.
Mr. Driggers was a member of Green Acres Assembly of God Church and a retired painter.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; three stepdaughters, Dianne Douglas and Martha Faye Culick, both of Sumter, and Emmaline Frierson of Manning; four stepgrandsons, Timothy Douglas, Nathaniel DeWitt, Dwayne Rogers, all of Sumter, and Jamie Frierson of Manning.
He was preceded in death by a sister and nine brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Green Acres Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Donnie Collins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the adult sunday school class.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home, 30 Regency Court.

Linnie Vaughn, 69, husband of Martha Milton Vaughn, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at his home.
Born May 6, 1933, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Linnie Vaughn Sr. and Eliza Sinkler Vaughn.

ELLANORA G. SESSIONS
SUMMERTON — Ellanora “Nora” Green Sessions, 53, widow of Robert Sessions, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
Born Oct. 1, 1949, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of Archie Bell Gaymon Green Brown and the late Sanders Brown and the stepdaughter of Kent Brown. She retired from Clarendon School District 1 and was a member of Mount Hope FBH Church. She was a Sunday school secretary and was actively involved with the following organizations, the junior missionary and H.Y.P.U. President Foster Care Association Chaplain of the Women’s Unity Club Diocese of Charleston Immigration Service assisting local migrant workers.
Survivors include four sons, Bryan (LaToya) Sessions of Snellville, Ga., William, Roderick and Artavais Sessions, all of the home; a daughter, Acetra Sessions of the home; two brothers, Moses (Savannah) Green of Willingsboro, N.J., and Kenneth Brown of Jamica, N.Y.; three sisters, Janie (Hugh) Jones of Jamica, Brenda (Omar) Kenner of Stone Mountain, Ga., Mazie (Maurice) Tinsley of Lithonia, Ga.; three grandchildren; and an adopted sister, Jessie Lee Coard.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 tonight at Summerton Funeral Service.
The remains will be placed in Scott’s Branch High School Gymnasium at noon Saturday.

GENEVA BALLARD
Geneva “Boot” Ballard, 82, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.
Born Aug. 21, 1920, in the Privateer section of Sumter, she was a daughter of the late John Bracey and Marie Carpenter Evans. She was reared in the home of the late Jacob and Eliza Witherspoon Ballard. In 1943, she moved to New York and worked as a home care provider. She joined Emanuel AME Church in Harlem and served as a Sunday school teacher and on the Ladies’ Trustee Board. After returning to Sumter, she rejoined LaGree AME Church and served in various capacities until her health failed.
Survivors include a daughter, Adell B. (William) Simmons of Sumter; two half-brothers, Freddie Bracey and Ulysses Bracey, and four half-sisters, Mable Lawson, Anges B. Gregg, Gladys B. Jones and Geneva Montgomery; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; three aunts; an uncle; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a half-brother, John Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at LaGree AME Church with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

EASTER M. LADSON
Easter Mae “Mae-Mae” Ladson, 38, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born March 5, 1965, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Easter Green Ladson and the late Frank Ladson. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter and was a 1983 graduate of Sumter High School. After high school, she attended Central Carolina. At an early age, she joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter where she served on the junior usher board. She was employed by the Young’s Market as a part-time employee and at McDonald’s as a full-time employee for 13 years until her health failed.
Survivors besides her mother include two brothers, Julius Rembert and Samuel Rembert, both of Sumter; two foster brothers, Bernard Galloway and Willie Galloway, both of Sumter; a sister, Frances Moses of Sumter; a special niece and nephew, Quandra and Brandon Moses; a special aunt, Ruby King; a fiance, George Wilson; a brother-in-law, Roosevelt Moses; three uncles, four aunts; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Quincy Moses; and an aunt, Dorothy Scriven.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

SAMUEL J. FRANKLIN
Samuel J. Franklin, 77, husband of Amelia Sanders Franklin, died May 15, 2003, in Brandford, Conn.
Born Dec. 1, 1925, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Hugh and Eliza White Franklin. While attending Lincoln High School, Sam enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943. After proudly serving his country, he was honorably discharged in 1945. He completed his high school education at the Hill House High School in New Haven, Conn., graduating valedictorian in his Class of 1966. His thirst for knowledge continued, affording him the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree in education from the New Haven College in 1981.
In his youth, Sam accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and joined Beulah AME Church, Sumter. In 1949, after completion of his military career, Sam was baptized in the Seventh-Day Adventist faith at the Mount Zion Church, New Haven, where he served faithfully in many capacities including first elder, head deacon, personal ministries director, community services leader, interest coordinator, usher, Sabbath school superintendent and Sabbath school teacher. He also served on the conference headquartered in South Lancaster, Mass., for 16 years and the northeastern conference headquartered in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., for 14 years. An avid reader and Bible scholar, Brother Franklin could often be found in many discussions about the history of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Sam worked in the building trades industry for more than 20 years and began his public service with the New Haven Redevelopment Agency in 1968. In 1978, he was appointed director of the New Haven Housing Authority, where he served in that capacity until his retirement in 1982.
Survivors besides his wife of the home in New Haven, include one daughter, Beverly Ann Franklin of New Haven; four sisters, Hilda Smith, Thelma China and Sally Rudolph Ward, all of Sumter, and Mattie (Precious) White of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Claudia Laws.
The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be held at Berea Seventh Day Adventist Church, Sumter, at 11 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be at Beulah AME Church.
The funeral procession will leave from the home of Mrs. Frances Sanders, 802 S. Harvin St., Sumter.

Ann Sisk King, 85, widow of Roy N. King, died May 20, 2003, at a local nursing home.
Born in Mt. Airy, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Paul Henry Sisk and the late Gertrude Elizabeth Walker Sisk.
Surviving are a son, James R. King and wife, Judy K., of Sumter; a brother, Walton Sisk of Salisbury, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Mary Ann King of Hendersonville, N.C., and John R. King of Charleston.

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Robert B. “Bobby” Baker, 60, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Whaley Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Alley and the Rev. Jack Kyzer, with burial at Southland Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his cousins, Leon King, Glen King, David Player, Marion Amerson Jr., Rusty Amerson and Kirk Amerson.
Mr. Baker died Tuesday, May 20, 2003. Born in Sumter, he was the son of Lourine A. Baker and the late Jesse B. Baker. He was a member of Whaley Street United Methodist Church and was a local musician of Summer Creek Band.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra B. Baker of West Columbia; daughters, Gay Franz of Columbia, Lee Cochran of Lexington and Becky Caulder of West Columbia; a sister, Dianne Neese of Pelion; and seven grandchildren.
