Mrs. Rosie Lee Fullwood, wife of the late Marion Fullwood, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Manor Health Care Facility in Largo, Md.
Born in Sumter County on July 20, 1905, she was one of 11 children born to the late Silas Gaymon and Fannie Burns Gaymon. She attended the schools of Sumter County. She was a devoted member of Jehovah Baptist Church for more than 55 years and served faithfully in many capacities including the usher board. During her stay in the Washington area, Rosie worshiped at the Covenant Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a devoted daughter, Fannie Jenkins Tillman; her deceased siblings, Louvenia G. Williams, Ethel G. Nelson, Lucille G. Dwyer, Willie Gaymon, Taft Gaymon, Paul Gaymon and Silas Gaymon.
She leaves to cherish precious memories a loving and supportive granddaughter, Yolanda (Terry) Tillman of Washington, D.C.; her sister, Virtus Rose of Sumter; two brothers, Porter Gaymon of Sumter and Johnnie Gaymon of Philadelphia; her son-in-law, William Tillman of Washington, D.C., a stepdaughter, Marjorie Felder of Baltimore; two grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Earlene McCoy of Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with the senior pastor the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton, eulogist, assisted by Minister Irene Anthony, Minister Nate Brock and the Rev. James H. Jackson III. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Fullwood will be placed in the church for viewing from noon until the hour of service.
Pallbearers will be Taft Gaymon, Leonard Gaymon, Randolph Gaymon, Rapheal Gaymon and Reggie Gaymon.
Flowerbearers will be Jehovah Usher Board.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Palmer Memorial Chapel and at other times the home of her sister, Virtus Rose, 1011 South Main St., Sumter.

FRANCIS J. COBURN
Francis Jewel Coburn, age 83, wife of the late Jack Hollman Berry and the late Herbert M. Coburn, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Melvin McLeod Moore and Daisy Mae Boyce Moore. She was the manager of the school cafeteria at the Crosswell Drive Elementary School in District 17 school system for 17 years and the Mayesville Institute in District 2 school system for four years. She was a member of the Sheppard Center and attended the Open Bible Fellowship Church.
Surviving are one son, Stanley Dermont Berry of Riverside, Calif.; one daughter, Jewel Janette Marcoux of Pinewood; one sister, Geraldine O’Neal of Rockingham, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas H. Berry; and two brothers, Charles Melvin Moore and Don Osborne Moore.
A graveside service was held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sumter Cemetery with Dr. Clay Weeks officiating.
The family received friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home to handle the arrangements.

Richard “Bee Bop” James, 48, widower of Yvonne “Sly” James, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 10, 1954, in Sumter, he was a son of Bessie James and the late Henry James. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. He was employed by Carolina Golden Products until he became disabled.
Survivors besides his mother of Sumter include one son, Byron James of Baltimore; two daughters, Tarsha James of Baltimore and Catherine Lyons of Sumter; two brothers, Henry (Denise) James of Little Rock, Ark., and Larry James of Jersey City, N.J.; four sisters, Lillie Mae Randolph and Henrietta James, both of Sumter, Elma “Tula” James of Bronx, N.Y., and Pamela (Pablo) Congo of San Diego; numerous grandchildren; one aunt, Annie M. Scott; and special friends, Wilbur Pack, Alpheia Bracey and Carrie Young, all of Sumter.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Bruce; and a brother, Kenneth James.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Sumter Funeral Service Inc. with the Rev. Henry James officiating.
The funeral procession will leave from the home of his sister, Lillie Mae Randolph, 38 Lincoln Ave., at 2:10 p.m.

REMBERT — Louise D. Davis, 72, wife of Albert Davis, died May 30, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 24, 1930, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Eugene Dennis Sr. and Victoria Rembert Dennis. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter and later graduated from Sarah J. Hale for dressmaking in Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended New York Millinery School of New York City and the New York City School of Catering and Fashion Industries. She was baptized at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Rembert and later became a member of Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended Solid Rock Baptist Church, Brooklyn, N.Y. Upon returning to Sumter she resumed her membership at Mt. Pisgah.
Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Maxine Davis and Darlene Davis, both of Brooklyn; three sisters, Emma D. Ramsey of Cleveland, Ella M. Dennis Christan of Saluda and Carrie M. Dennis of New York City; six brothers, Coleman Dennis, Eugene Dennis and Marcus Dennis, all of Rembert, Leland Dennis of Washington, D.C., James Kirkland of Galveston, Texas, and John Dennis of Dallas; four sisters-in-law; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Rembert, with the Rev. Anthony Taylor, pastor, assisted by the Rev. W. Dennis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

James T. McCain, husband of Mrs. Ida M. Chennault McCain, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter County on March 8, 1905, he was a son of the late Sigmund McCain and Laura Thomas McCain.

NEW ZION — Mrs. Sally Moore, age 65, died June 4, 2003, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel in Olanta. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Madison David Green and Aurelia Coker Green. She worked most of her life as a telephone operator and was employed by the Turbeville IGA.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Garry Moore; and two sisters, Norma Jean Clements and Melba Jane Mariane Green.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Thomas Moore of New Zion; two daughters, Pamela Revera and her husband, John, of El Paso, Texas, and Vonnie Smith and her husband, Danny, of Springfield, Ga.; two brothers, David Everett Green of New Zion and Aubrey Dean Green of Turbeville; and two grandsons, Daniel and Troy.

SUMMERTON — Mildred Juanita “Link” Brunson, 80, widow of Charlie Brunson Sr., died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born May 21, 1923, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Filmore and Florence Mcfadden Filmore.
Survivors include four sons, Perry Brunson of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Douglas and Charlie Brunson Jr. of Summerton, and Willie Filmore of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; four daughters, Judy, Oprah, Sadie Mae and Lillie Mae Brunson, all of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; 31 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at King Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnnie Gilliam officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Mrs. Louise Bryant died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at the McCoy Memorial Nursing Facility in Bishopville.
Born in Denmark, S.C., on Feb. 16, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Moss Pinkney and Laura Pinkney. She was the wife of the late Archie Bryant.

ELIZABETH BATEMAN
Mary Elizabeth Lynam Bateman, 94, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Elliott Huger “Zeke” Lynam and the late Mamie Brinkley Lynam.
Mrs. Bateman was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Constance Herbert Bible Class, and the United Methodist Women of the church. She was a retired home economics teacher with Sumter School District 17 and was one of the first Head Start teachers in Sumter. Mrs. Bateman served as a teacher for more than 45 years. She was a graduate of McLaurin Girls High School and Winthrop College. She was a member of the Pilot Club and the Evening Pilot Club of Sumter; the Winthrop Daughters, the Winthrop College Alumni Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was also a member of the Sumter Home Economics Club, the Iris Garden Club and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Surviving are a son, Jimmy Bateman and his wife, Bootsie, of Manning; a brother, Billy Lynam Jr. of Sumter; five grandchildren, Mitzi Lowe and her husband, David, of Charlotte, N.C., Debbie Jasinski and her husband, Mike, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Stevie Pace of Granite Falls, N.C., Tami Eleftheriou and her husband, Nick, of Bluffton and Jamie Bateman and his wife, Ashley, of Sumter; five great-grandchildren; a cousin, Kingman Lynam and his wife, Jane, of Alabama; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Jones and the Rev. George Gain officiating.
Pallbearers will be Bill Lynam, Tommy Lynam, Zeke Lynam, Frank Brown, Van Hobbs, Vandy Hobbs, Ben Lynam and Allister Brown.

Born May 26, 1930, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Bertha Perkins Eckles. She attended the public schools of Florence and was a member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the senior usher board until her health failed.
Survivors include one granddaughter reared in the home, Mrs. Melba (Lamatel) Edwards; one niece, Cynthia (Joshua) Davis of Charlotte, N.C.; one nephew, Marquis Spears; one great-grandson, Raekwon (Jon Jon) Edwards; one great-granddaughter, Lindeja Edwards; two sisters, Edna Mae Jordan and Pearlie McDaniel, both of Effingham; three stepsisters, Ollie Mae Nowlin of Effingham, Naomi Walters of Florence and Jean Eagleton of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Berlie (Charles) Walker of Effingham; two aunts, Josephine Jupiter of Baltimore, Md., and Fannie Lane of Effingham; one uncle, Harry (Eulia) Thompson of Effingham; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Moore was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and was a long-time member of Manchester Trail Riders.
