CLYDE MOORE
Clyde Egbert Moore, age 79, husband of 56 years to Shirley West Moore, died on Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.
He was born in Lynchburg, Va., a son of the late Edward E. Moore and Maude L. Parris Moore. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired after 43 years of service in the Perry Point VA Medical Center in Perry Point, Md. He was a former loan officer at The Perry Point VA Credit Union and was a former treasurer of The American Federation of Government Employees. He was a member of DAV and a member of the Perryville Methodist Church in Perryville.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Clyde E. Moore Jr. of Sumter, Randolph L. Moore of Columbia, Kenneth D. Moore of Columbia and Patrick K. Moore of Sumter; one daughter, Kathleen G. Rapposelli of Columbia; two brothers, Billy Moore and Harold Moore; six sisters, Nola J. Davidson, Toni Lord, Patsy Hickman, Linda Truslow, Louise Ham and Nancy Phares; eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cecil D. Moore and Edward Moore Jr.; and one sister, Jacklyn Bullins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at The Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Usher officiating. Burial will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at The Florence National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home to handle the arrangements.

MADLYN B. WELSH
Madlyn Bachus Welsh, 92, wife of Rowland Murray Welsh, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Poplar Bluff, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Cornelius Wynard Bachus and the late Alice Ann Horlacher Bachus.
Mrs. Welsh was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and a retired beautician.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a son, Ronald Murray Welsh of Sumter; a daughter, Linda Ann Welsh Lyons of Sumter; a sister, Maxine Steere of Wichita Falls, Texas; four grandchildren, Christia L. Burgess, F. Brent Lyons, Laura Welsh and Sherry Welsh; and two great-grandchildren, Brianna Lyons and Brooke Lyons.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Wynard Bachus.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. LaRue Cook and the Rev. Ron Richardson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 2354 Addison Drive.
Memorials may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 136 Poinsett Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or to Bondovlove Baptist Church, 2755 Carter Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

HENRY McGEE Sr.
Henry Bubba McGee Sr., 56, husband of Elouise Helen Jenkins McGee, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, on U.S. 521 North.
Born March 6, 1947, in Sumter, he was a son of Samuel McGee Sr. and the late Thelma J. McGee. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. He was employed with A&S Auto Sales for many years, then later was self-employed with B&S service center.
Survivors besides his wife and father include eight children, Henry McGee Jr., Teresa McGee, Tammie Brunson, Belinda McGee, Joey McGee, Terrance McGee, Norman McGee and Lakita McGee, all of Sumter; nine brothers and sisters, Samuel McGee of Carson, Calif., Willie McGee, Loraine McGee, Thelma Jane McGee, Leon McGee, Alonza McGee, all of Sumter, Loretta Heyward of Wedgefield, James McGee of Florence, and Roosevelt Johnson of Connecticut; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first born daughter, Regina McGee; and his oldest sister, Flossie McGee Gardner.
The body will be placed in the church at noon Thursday.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday from the New Covenant Presbyterian Church (USA), 907 Legare St., Sumter, with the Rev. Retha Nelson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers and floral bearers.
The funeral procession will leave from the home, 2810 Doc Road, Sumter.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.

LAKEITHA R. SIMS
HINESVILLE, Ga. — LaKeitha Regina Sims, 20, died Aug. 17, 2003, in Hinesville, Ga.
Born Jan. 14, 1983, in Mayesville, she was a daughter of Deloris Sims.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her grandmother, Carrie Sims, 14 Boundary St., Mayesville.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc.

SAMMIE PRESLEY
PHILADELPHIA — Sammie Lee Presley, 74, widower of the late Elease McDonald Presley, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, in Philadelphia.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Sammie and Hattie Robinson Presley and the uncle of retired Capt. Thomas B. Presley of Sumter.
The family will receive friends at the residence of 2308 N. 5th St., Philadelphia.

JOSEPH DAVIS JR.
ALCOLU — Deacon Joseph Davis Jr., 59, husband of Loretta F. Davis, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at 1575 Goward Road, Alcolu.
Born Aug. 7, 1944, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was a son of the late Joseph Davis Sr. and Georgia Dunwoody Davis.
He received his formal education in the Jacksonville school system, graduating from Gilbert High School. He continued his education at St. Johns University in New York City. Joseph received several certificates and awards while pursuing his studies.
At an early age Joseph accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and joined the local church in Jacksonville.
In 1963, Joseph moved to New York City with his sister Madeline Garner-Edmonds. in the mid-’60s Joseph joined Ford Motor Co. as an assembly worker. Joseph played an integral part in breaking the color line at Ford, joining the Ford management team in 1974.
Joseph continued his Christian works in New York City, joining Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in 1968. Joseph was an active member of the church, serving as a member of the missionary club, singing on the Clancey Johnson memorial choir and working tirelessly with the young people of Mount Calvary Church. He was ordained deacon in the mid-’70s.
Joseph was a past master of New Canaan Lodge No. 83 of the Most Worshipful Enoch Grand Lodge, New York state.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Davis; his sister, Madeline Edmonds; his daughter, Jacqueline Davis; three sons, Anthony Davis, Cypriani Davis, Farintino Gordon; eight grandchildren; niece, Ronnie Jaundon; sister-in-law, Thomasena White; two godsons; a goddaughter; five sisters and six brothers.
The remains will be placed in the church at noon Thursday.
Funeral services will be at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. Dennis Brock, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Johnathan Anderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1575 Goward Road.

ALMA M. LOWE
Alma Agnes Mack Lowe, 70, died Aug. 19, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 10, 1933, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Ethel Bowman Mack. At an early age, she joined St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter. After relocating to Baltimore, she joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was a 1953 graduate of Lincoln High School and a 1957 graduate of Morris College, where she obtained her degree in elementary education. She taught at Coldstream Park Elementary School, Baltimore, and later worked as a home health care nurse in Baltimore.
Survivors include one son, Allen (Joann) Mitchell of Baltimore; two sisters, Rhunnette Wise and Mattie M. (Wilbur) Witherspoon, both of Sumter; two brothers, Levi W. Mack of Baltimore, and John W. (Sylvia) Mack of Sumter; three grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ann Brown of Baltimore; three aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Wake will be held Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Job’s Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150.
Funeral services will be held Monday in Baltimore.
The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Rhunnette M. Wise, 39 Brent St., Sumter, SC 29150.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. is in charge of local arrangements.
March Funeral Home, 1101 E. North Ave., Baltimore, MD 21202, is in charge of funeral services.

CLARINE J. GREENAWALT
Clarine Joy Greenawalt, 80, widow of Donald Dean Greenawalt, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in Clinton, Md.
Born Aug. 24, 1922, in Rockford, Ill., she was a daughter of the late William Frederick Nashold and the late Clara Janet Fuller Nashold.
Mrs. Greenawalt was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She was also a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and The Colonial Dames of the XVII Century.
Surviving are six sons, Rodgers K. Greenawalt and wife, Katy, of Sumter, Frederick W. Greenawalt and wife, Yvonne, of Pennsylvania, Bradford J. Greenawalt of Georgia, Stanton C. Greenawalt and wife, Jane, of Myrtle Beach, Joseph N. Greenawalt and wife, Barbara, and John P. Greenawalt of Maryland; two daughters, Janet G. Smith and husband, Robert, of Virginia, and Deborah J. Golanski of Maryland; a daughter-in-law, Merrilea Greenawalt of Maryland; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald D. Greenawalt Jr.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, in Maryland with burial at Arlington National Cemetery on Sept. 2.

ELMA R. WELLS
MANNING — Elma Ridgeway Wells, 87, widow of Glen H. “Duck” Wells Sr., died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, in National Healthcare of Sumter.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

FREDDIE BAXTER Sr.
Freddie “Freddy” Baxter Sr., 72, widower of Ophelia Blanding Baxter, died Aug. 18, 2003, at his residence, 38 Dant St., Sumter.
Born Nov. 3, 1930, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late James T. and Malvenia Bosier Baxter. He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, he joined Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where he served diligently and faithfully as a member. “Mr. Freddy,” as he was affectionately known to many, served his community as the “neighborhood barber.” In Jan. 1953, he enlisted as a member of the United States Army. After serving his country with honors, he was employed by Korn Industries until 1969 when his health began to fail.
Survivors include two sons, Ransom “Bobby” (Louise) Baxter of Columbia and Freddie Baxter Jr. of Sumter; two daughters, Pearlie Baxter and Henrietta (Bruce) Scott, all of Sumter; two brothers, Roosevelt (Rosa) Baxter of Brooklyn, N.Y., and James (Mary) Baxter Jr. of Flushing, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, special relatives, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, Henry Baxter.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Silver, with the Rev. W.J. Chandler, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Dr. C. Richburg, the Revs. J.H. Pringle, George Johnson and Nate Brock.
Burial will be in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 38 Dant St., Sumter, SC 29150.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES E. WASHINGTON
James Earl Washington, affectionately known as “Doby,” husband of the late Cheryl Clark Washington, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, in Linden, N.J.
Born April 19, 1957, in Linden, N.J., he was a son of Winnie Brunson Washington and the late John F. Washington Sr.
The family will receive friends at the residence of 2664 Rembert Church Road, Dalzell.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter.

MARSHALL J. McFADDEN
Marshall J. McFadden, 80, died Aug. 17, 2003, at Hopewell Nursing Center.
Born Oct. 8, 1922, in Sardinia, Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Washington and Verneshia Cousar McFadden. He received his formal education from the Melina Parochial School. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and joined the Melina Presbyterian Church, where he was active until his health declined. He served faithfully as a member of the board of trustees and the men’s council. He was also a member of the Golden Gate Lodge No. 78 of Free and Accepted Masons.
Survivors include one nephew, James McFadden of Sumter; one foster daughter, Rose J. McFadden of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Jeannette Kennedy of Sumter; four foster grandchildren, Gail Roberts, Cynthia Murry, Marcia Holland and Deloris “Tammy” Tips; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Melina Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, pastor, assisted by Elder Azalee Knox. Burial will be in Melina Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The body will lie in state Friday at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the home of his nephew, James A. McFadden, 1200 Plowden Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

PAULINE E. JOHNSON
ROCK HILL — Pauline “Polly” Epps Johnson died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Rock Hill.
She was the daughter of the late George “Billy” L. Epps and the late Gladys Epps. Mrs. Johnson was twice married, first to the late John Z. Johnson and later to the late David F. Johnson. Formerly of Sumter, Mrs. Johnson moved to Rock Hill in October of 1999, where she resided with her daughter until her death.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra Karen Johnson; honorary stepdaughter and friend, Kelley Gunnells O’Hara; a sister, Zelene E. Kempson; a brother, Dan Epps; and a stepson, Richard C. Johnson.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Epps Cemetery on Bethel Road near Kingstree.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research.
Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WADELL DINGLE
MIAMI — Wadell Dingle died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at North Shores Medical Center, Miami.
Born in Summerton, Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Julian Dingle and Lucy Bell Richburg Dingle. He was the brother of Emma Lee (Nathinel) Robinson of Summerton.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Poitier’s Home for Funerals, 2321 N.W. 62nd St., Miami. Burial will be in Miami. Arrangements by Poitier’s Home for Funerals of Miami.

BISHOPVILLE — Cornelia Albert died Sept. 1, 2003, at Oakhaven in Darlington.
