HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Estelle Bowman Green Watson, 70, wife of Wayne Watson Sr., died Sept. 2, 2003, at Hollywood Medical Center.
Born Feb. 17, 1933, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Preston Bowman Sr. and Charlotte Hastie Bowman.
The family will receive friends at the home of her brother, McKinley Bowman, 2180 Kingsbury Road, Sumter, and at the home of her niece, Patricia Graham, 2150 Kingsbury Road, Sumter.

HANS W. IDSELIS
Hans W. Idselis, 77, husband of Emily Truluck Idselis, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston.
Born in Memel, Germany, he was a son of the late Johan Idselis and the late Marie Skeries Idselis. Mr. Idselis was a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran. He was a retired purchasing manager with the Regional Transit Authority.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Erna Haag Trier.
Private services will be held at a later date.

MANNING — Mattie Land Boswell Stukes, 92, married for 75 years to Ollie I. Stukes, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, in Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, and at other times at the residence, 607 Pickwood Drive.

ADELAIDA A. MORTON
Adelaida Atayde Morton, age 60, wife of 24 years to George Newbern Morton, died on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at her residence.
She was born in San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, a daughter of Rosalinda Garcia Atayde and the late Gaudencio Atayde. She was a licensed cosmetologist, a former vice president of the Philippines-American Association and a former restaurant owner in Valdosta, Ga. She was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving in addition to her mother are one son, Christopher A. Morton and his wife, Frances L., of Columbus, Ga.; one daughter, Maria L. Van Camp and her husband, Stephen, of Sumter; one sister, Theresa Santos of Sacramento, Calif.; one uncle, Benjamin Abbad of Tifton, Ga.; and seven grandchildren, Heather Van Camp, Jennifer Van Camp, Katherine Van Camp, Matthew Van Camp, Vishondra Renee Morton, Christopher Elijah Morton and Xevier Alexander Morton.
No local funeral services are planned.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the residence on Ridge Street in Dalzell.

Easter Prescott, 82, widow of Leon Prescott, died Sept. 5, 2003, at her residence, 6420 DuBose Siding Road.
Born Sept. 30, 1920, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Millier Rivers and Janie Stuckey Rivers.

ITLEAN J. WHITE
MANNING — Mrs. Itlean Johnson White, 80, widow of Mr. Theodore (Teddy) White, died Sept. 1, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.
Born May 1, 1923, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Mr. Preston Johnson and the late Mrs. Leila Harvin Johnson. Mrs. White obtained her education in the public schools of Clarendon County. She was a member of St. John Freewill Baptist Church, Bloomville. She served as mother of the church and was a member of the Missionary Society.
Survivors include one son, Mr. Charles White of Philadelphia, Pa.; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret (Ernest) Murray and Mrs. Mary (George) King, both of Manning, and Mrs. Huleen Burgess of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Mr. Preston Johnson and Mr. Lee Ernest (Ruth) Johnson, both of Sumter; one sister, Mrs. Leila (Johnny) Plowden of Manning; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda James; one son, Theodore White Jr.; six sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John Freewill Baptist Church, Bloomville community, with the Rev. Otis Wright, pastor, the Rev. Dr. C. Richburg, the Rev. Calvin Burgess, the Rev. Melvin Daniels and the Rev. Emanuel Evans.
Burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Ernest Murray, 2434 Oak Grove Church Road, Red Hill community, Manning.

MANNING — James William Harper, 73, husband of Frances Boatwright Harper, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sumter, he was the son of the late John W. Harper and the late Annie Laurie Williams Harper. Mr. Harper was the owner and operator of Harper Radio and Television Shop and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sumter.
Surviving besides his wife of Manning are a daughter, Sandy Harper Turner of Sumter; a nephew, Lee Glover of Sumter; and two grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.

NORMAN C. MITCHEM
Norman C. Mitchem, 81, widower of Ella Josey Mitchem, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Blue Jay, W.Va., he was a son of the late Mae Mitchem. Mr. Mitchem was a retired U.S. Air Force staff sergeant with 20 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II. He was wounded in Normandy and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He also retired from Santee Print Co.
Surviving are one stepson, James Compton Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Ann C. Thornley of Willow Springs, N.C., and Judy Smith of Bishopville; one half-sister, Ruby Mills of Beckley, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

ROGER W. SPRINGS
Roger William Springs, age 73, husband of 51 years to Jacqueline Joyce Hawk Springs, died on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Sumter, a son of the late Ashable Grover Springs and Rosa Haselden Springs. He received his associate degree in electronics at the Sumter Technical College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and retired as a master sergeant from Shaw Air Force Base after 25 years of service. He later retired as an instructor with 16 years of service from Sumter Technical College. He was president of the South Carolina Association of Naturalist, a master gardener, and a member of The Shepherd’s Center. He was a member of the First Southern Methodist Church and served in numerous capacities.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Katherine “Kate” Kennedy and her husband, Francis, of Sumter; one sister, Charles Helen Turner of Nesmith; a stepmother, Lal Montgomery of Kingstree; two half-brothers, Sidney O. Springs and Grover G. Springs, both of Georgetown; and two half-sisters, Sylvia Springs and Madge Eady, both of Kingstree.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven Michael Springs; and one brother, Kedron Springs.
A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Ellison L. Evans officiating.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Mrs. Thelma M. Glover, 79, of 2528 Nottingham Drive, Savannah, died Sept. 3, 2003, at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
She was born in Savannah, Ga. After living most of her life in Kingstree, she moved back to Savannah in 1993. She was a member of Historic First African Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Beach Cuyler High School. She was a graduate of South Carolina State University, where she received a bachelor’s of science degree in home economics education and a master’s of science degree in guidance and counseling. She taught school at Saint Mark and Thomlinson High School. She retired as a school teacher from Williamsburg County public schools. She was a member of AKA Sorority.
Survivors include a daughter, Trienne Glover and her husband, Clyde Swan, of Silver Spring, Md.; a son, Willie C. Glover Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Marie Ingram (Robert) of Savannah, Ga.; a granddaughter, Lauren Glover of Columbia, Md.; three grandsons, Gerald Swan and Evan Swan, both of Silver Spring, Md., and William Glover of Columbia, Md.; and two nieces, Rosemarie Kinsey and Leslie Ingram, both of Savannah, Ga.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at First African Baptist Church, 23 Montgomery St. (Franklin Square), with the Rev. Thurmond Tillman, pastor.
Burial will be Monday at the Florence National Cemetery, Florence.

Arnice Mouzone died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y., on May 27, 1966, she was the daughter of Joseph and Roberta Reed Palmer. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York. She was formerly employed as an elementary teacher in the New York City School System and later as a case worker for the Department of Social Services in Sumter. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Palmer.
Surviving are a daughter, Chauniece Diamond Mouzone of the home; parents, Joseph and Roberta Reed Palmer of Sumter; a sister, Jocella Palmer of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, Reginald Palmer of Sumter, Ronald and wife, Betty, Palmer of Saopaulo, Brazil, and Arnold Palmer of Rock Hill; two aunts, Emma R. and husband, Willie, Singleton of Sumter and Linda Henderson of Charlotte, N.C.

Antonio R. Potts, 21, died Sept. 7, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born Oct. 28, 1981, in Sumter. He was a son of Margaret Potts and Phillip Potts.

DORIS GOINES
Doris Goines, 60, died Sept. 7, 2003, at his residence, 315 Dusty Circle, Sumter.
Born April 14, 1943, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Deacon Blanding Goines and Loree Smiling Goines. At an early age, he joined Bethesda Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of Clarendon County and was later a self-employed painter.
Survivors include three brothers, Barney (Jessie Mae) Goines, Roland (Ulease) Goines and Clairmont (Knenite) Goines, all of Sumter; three sisters, Natharene Riley, Ardell Smiling and Louise (Robert) Wilson, all of Sumter; one brother-in-law, Albertus Conyers; a special relative, O’Neal Stukes of Sumter; 24 nieces; 13 nephews; and a host of grandnieces, great-grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lavica Mack, Hilda Mae Wells and Ruby Lee Conyers; and one brother, Jack Goines.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael L. Walters, pastor, assisted by the Revs. Albertus Smiling, Ralph W. Canty Sr. and Nathan Amos. Burial will be in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body will lie in state at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Barney Goines, 420 Geddings Road, Sumter 29150.
