Falesha Conyers Johnson, 37, wife of Darrell Johnson, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 2, 1965, in Jamaica, N.Y., she was a daughter of Mr. Manuel and Evelyn Deloris Pompey Conyers.
Falesha spent her early life in New York, where she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. In 1980, she relocated to Sumter and joined the Greater St. Paul Non-Denominational Church. She served faithfully in many capacities including membership on the Shonda and Great Jubilation Choir.
Her early education was received in the public schools of New York. She completed her high school education as a graduate of Sumter High School in the Class of 1983. She also attended Sumter Area Technical College. Her employment experience was diverse and included the Alice Drive Middle School Extended Day Care Center, Moores Finance Company, Polar Bear Cleaners and Payless Shoe Store on Broad Street in Sumter.
Survivors besides her husband include two sons, Darrell Johnson Jr. and Christopher Johnson; and two brothers, Ronald Lee Conyers of Durham, N.C., and Manuel Conyers of Sumter.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deloris Johnson; a brother, Donald Lee Conyers; her maternal grandparents, Samuel Lee and Bernice Simon Pompey; and her paternal grandfather, James Conyers.
The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Greater St. Paul Non-Denominational Church with Bishop W.T. English, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Bishop W.T. English Memorial Park.
The funeral procession will leave at 1 p.m. from 1441 Frank St.

WALTER A. BRADLEY
MAYESVILLE – Walter A. Bradley, 83, widower of Rosa Lee Ruth Bradley, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born Dec. 11, 1919, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Abner and Luvenia Toney Bradley.
He was educated in the public schools in Lee County and Lincoln High School in Sumter. In 1942, he moved to Wilmington, N.C., where he worked as a ship builder for a number of years. Upon his return to South Carolina, he fulfilled his dreams of being a barber and farmer, which enabled him to provide for his family. From 1969 to 1985 he was employed at Reeves Brother’s Textile Industry located in Bishopville. After his retirement from Reeves Brother’s, he continued to farm as well as dedicate his time and service to helping friends in the community.
Survivors include seven sons, James E., Wilton, Albert and Roosevelt Bradley, all of Mayesville, Wardell Bradley of Bishopville, and Larry Bradley and Booker T. Carter, both of Sumter; five daughters, Louvenia Wilson of Lynchburg, Margie D. Bradley of the home, Ernestine Emerum of Stone Mountain, Ga., Betty Turner of Cheltenham, Md., and Nancy Charles of Washington, D.C.; 28 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mammie Wilson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Bradley; and a daughter-in-law, Grace Carter.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at New Zion AME Church in Wisacky with the Rev. Franklin W. Spears, pastor, officiating, assisted by Pastor Webb, the Rev. S.L. Gary and the Rev. Alfred Bradley. Burial will be in New Zion Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be class leaders and trustees.
Floral bearers will be stewardess and the Women Missionary Society.
The funeral procession will leave at 2:20 p.m. from his home, 750 Lower Lee School Road in Mayesville.
The family will receive friends at his home.

RICHARD “CHARLTON” McLEOD Jr.
PAXVILLE — Richard “Charlton” McLeod Jr., 69, husband of Annie Laurie White McLeod, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Manning, he was a son of the late Richard C. McLeod Sr. and the late Grace Tisdale McLeod.
He was a member of Paxville Baptist Church, where he was a member of the men’s bible class and formerly served as a deacon. He was retired from the S.C. State Forestry Commission after 35 years of service. He was a mason and was a former NASCAR dirt track racing champion.
Survivors besides his wife of Paxville include a son, Ricky McLeod of Paxville and his girlfriend, Sandy Waters; a daughter, Diane McLeod Chappell of Paxville; two grandsons, Todd Chappell and Ryan Chappell, both of Paxville; and an aunt, Frances Haigler of Paxville.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Chappell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Paxville Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating.
Burial will be in Paxville Town Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Brunson, Dickie Potter, Wade McLeod, Harold Corbett, Joseph Persighin, Donnie Brown, Don Herlong and Andrew McLeod. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Paxville Baptist Church.

MANNING — Junious “Hall” Canty, widower of Merthlen Doughty Canty, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. He was 76.
Mr. Canty was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Summerton. He was a son of the late John Canty and Ophelia Oliver Canty.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Classie Canty of 1354 George Harvin Road in Manning.

ELGIN — Larry Lee Oldham, 59, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Kershaw County Medical Center.

COLIE REYNOLDS
Colie Reynolds, 78, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003.
Mr. Reynolds was born in Hagood and was a son of the late Walter and Leah Reynolds Outing. His grandparents, Benny and Annie Reynolds, raised him.
Mr. Reynolds was a member of First Baptist Church. He served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a retired chef at Shaw Air Force Base’s NCO Club.
Surviving are his children, Annie Reynolds Bolton, Larry (Rhonda) Reynolds, Calvin Reynolds, Bruce (Michelle) Reynolds and Benny (Virginia) Reynolds; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Sumter. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
The body will be placed in the church an hour before the funeral.

Jamie Louise Bates, widow of George Feagen Bates, died Sunday, Sept. 21, at her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Bates was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Athens, Ga.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Neimiah “Dumpy” Boatright, husband of Valery Moses Boatright, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in a trucking accident near Newark, N.J. He was 36.
Mr. Boatright was born May 24, 1967, in Manning. He was a son of Fredrick Boatright and Ernestine Johnson Boatright.
The family will receive friends at the home of his parents, 1057 Herod Drive, in the Red Hill Community of Manning.

Mrs. Newton died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003. Born in Poplar Bluff, Mo., she was the daughter of the late William Edwin and Mary Elizabeth Mast Horlacher. Formerly of Missouri, she had been a local resident here since 1949. Mrs. Newton was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Women.
Surviving are her husband, Laurence Newton of Lexington; son and daughter-in-law, John and Susan Newton of Lexington; brother, Myron Horlacher of Columbia; and two grandchildren, Derik Newton and Lauren Newton, both of Lexington.
She was predeceased by a son, Larry Newton; two sisters, Theda Armstrong and Lillian Kinney; and one brother, Jim Horlacher.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Cassandra LaToya Holliday, 21, died Sept. 22, 2003, in Nashville, Tenn.
Born Feb. 9, 1982, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Samuel and Marie Anderson Holliday. She attended Lakewood High School and graduated from adult education in the year of 2002. She attended the Bethel Church of Christ until she relocated to Nashville, Tenn.
Survivors besides her parents include one son, Jamel Dwayne Thompson of Nashville, Tenn.; companion, Dwayne Thompson of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Chantrell Smalls of Sumter and Sandol Lasha Holliday of Wedgefield; four brothers, Samuel (Keela) Holliday Jr. of Alabama, Christopher Tyrone Holliday, James Holliday, both of Wedgefield, and Frederick Antonio Holliday of Nashville, Tenn.; paternal grandmother, Ellen Holliday of Wedgefield; godparents, Charlie and Isabella Taylor of Wedgefield; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Solomon Holliday Sr., Charlie and Nancy Anderson; and two uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Church of Christ, Wedgefield, with Elder James Mickens, pastor, assisted by Elder Robert Garrett.
Burial will be in Heaven Gateway Cemetery, Wedgefield.

Presently of Stone Mountain, Ga., Mr. Medows, 48, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the Atlanta VA Medical Center following a long illness. Mr. Medows had a very distinguished career in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was the husband of Verna Medows; father of Corey Hillman-Medows and Nakeeta Medows; son of Jeanette Shaw Medows (Sumter) and Edward Medows; and the grandson of the late Kenneth and Edmonia McNeil.

GREELEYVILLE — Geraldine Moore, 86, widow of Wallace V. Moore, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.
Born Sept. 4, 1917, in St. Paul, Minn., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Pearl Clemmons Staples. She was a retired technician for the 3M Corporation.
Surviving are a son, Dennis Moore of Lino Lakes, Minn.; a daughter, Judith M. Coker of Greeleyville; two granddaughters, Katherine Moore and Tracey Boicort; a grandson, Scott Oberembt; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Minnesota.

BISHOPVILLE — Herbert Wayne Boykin, 52, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Born in Lee County, he was a son of Rosa Lou Boykin and the late Herbert Boykin. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was retired from E.I. DuPont.
Survivors besides his mother of Bishopville include a daughter, Trena Flowers and her husband, Ken, of Florence; two sisters, Kaye Boykin and Debra Jenkins and her husband, Sammy, all of Bishopville; and a granddaughter, Kennedy Flowers.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Arlin Kirkland and the Rev. Dannie Wainright officiating.
