Edward “Bop” Marion Jr., 60, husband of Dorothy G. Marion, died Sept. 25, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born May 23, 1943, in Wilmington, N.C., he was a son of Gussie T. Marion Nixon and the late Edward Marion Sr. His formal education was obtained in the public schools of Maryland. He joined and became a faithful member of Allen Chapel AME Church. He was employed by Harvin Packing Co. for 43 years. He was also employed by Porter’s Garage and Jet Wrecking.
Survivors besides his wife and mother include seven children, Elder Ervin (Debora) Marion of St. Robert, Mo., Angela (Lewis) Wytch of Silverdale, Wash., Edward (Aslisa) Marion of Honolulu, Michael (Angela) Marion, Sharon (Perry) Moten, Donna (Ronald) Williams, Linda (Donald) Johnson, all of Sumter; five sisters, Pauline Harris, Helen (Kevin) Gaddy, Glendell Marion, Gloria Armstrong and Cleo Watson, all of Baltimore; 17 grandchildren; mother-in-law, Annie C. Mack; seven sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jennifer D. Marion; and three brothers, Benjamin, James and Levi Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Allen Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Harold Wilson, pastor, assisted by Elder Ervin L. Marion, the Revs. Gloria S. Brown, Joann Murrill and Robert E. Galloway. Burial will be in Allen Chapel Church Cemetery.
The body will lie in state at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The funeral procession will leave the residence at 2:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 344 Queen St., Sumter 29150.

HARRY JOHNSON
Harry Johnson, 82, husband of Flossie Evans Johnson, died Sept. 29, 2003, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia.
Born June 11, 1921, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Charlie Johnson and Emma Brand Johnson.
The family will receive friends at his home, 924 Saltwood Road, Sumter.

JOHN ELLIOTT ROWE Jr.
MANNING — John Elliott Rowe Jr., 92, widower of Sara Shirer Rowe, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at his home in Manning.
Born Aug. 6, 1911, in Summerton, he was a son of the late John Elliott Rowe Sr. and the late Anna Chewning Rowe. He was retired owner and operator of Rowe-Tomlinson Pharmacy; a lifelong member of Manning United Methodist Church and former president of the Men’s Bible Class; a graduate of the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy in 1933 and was one of the last survivors of that class; a member of the Manning Rotary Club, where he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award, and a Mason.
Surviving are a son, Dr. John Elliott “Jack” Rowe III, and his wife, Hazel Anne, of Sumter; two grandchildren, John “Elliott” Rowe IV of Bowman and Julie Gramling Rowe of Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Manning United Methodist Church. The Rev. Debra Quilling and the Rev. Dr. James C. Adams officiated. Burial followed in Manning Cemetery.
Pallbearers were A.B. Anderson, Elliott Rowe, Ansel McFaddin, Don Ellis, Billy Rowe and Alex Shirer.
Honorary pallbearers were the Men’s Bible Class of Manning United Methodist Church.
The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Julia Isabel Brown Brunson, 89, widow of John Edgar Brunson, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at a local nursing center.
Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel L. Brown and the late Belle Bearden Brown.
Mrs. Brunson was a member of Graham Baptist Church and the Dora Brogdon Sunday School Class. She was a graduate Westminister High School and Winthrop College.
Surviving are a son, William Q. “Billy” Brunson of New York City; a daughter, Marthabelle Rabon and her husband, E.W., of Easley; three grandchildren, Melody Rabon Davidson of Virginia Beach, Va., Philip Rabon of North Augusta and John Rabon of Easley; two great-grandchildren, Daniel Davidson and Matthew Davidson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Sammy Brunson; and three sisters, Mary Brown, Sara Brown and Evelyn Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Graham Baptist Church with the Rev. Roland Metcalf, the Rev. Dr. Thomas Painter and the Rev. John Patrick officiating.
Burial will be in the Brunson Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dora Brogdon Sunday School Class.

LADSON H. BOYLE
Ladson Hunter Boyle, husband of Anne McMeekin Boyle, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Covenant Place.
Born Dec. 26, 1929, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Adville Barnes Boyle and the late Mamie Hunter Boyle.
Mr. Boyle was a member and former chairman of the Administrative Board of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Boyle Bible Class. He served on The Methodist Foundation Board for 15 years. He attended Old Pueblo School in Tucson, Ariz., graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter, Darlington School in Rome, Ga., and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at UNC, he was president of Zeta Psi Fraternity.
He served on the board of Standard Building & Loan in Sumter, was a former chairman of the Sumter Fine Arts Council and served on the board of Covenant Place. He was a member of the Sumter Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycees, and the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association. He was a retired automobile dealer with Boyle Motor Co. Inc.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a son, Ladson Hunter Boyle Jr. of Columbia; a daughter, Meekin Boyle Herlong of Columbia; a brother, Adville Barnes Boyle Jr. of Litchfield Beach; a sister, Louise Boyle Deaton of Sumter; his grandchildren, James Augustus Herlong Jr. and Anne McMeekin Herlong.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sumter with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Taylor and the Rev. Phil Jones officiating.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery (Lady and Marion streets) in Columbia.

BISHOPVILLE — Phillip Blanding Jr., 69, husband of Juliaette Williams Blanding, died Sept. 25, 2003, at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center, Bishopville.
Born Feb. 22, 1934, in Stateburg, Sumter County, he was a son of the late Phillip Blanding Sr. and Helen Hunter Blanding. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. Upon graduating, he joined the United States Air Force. He was employed by Sumter Casket Co. for 34 years.
Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Phillip (Johnnie Mae) Blanding III and Shawn (Tamakia) Blanding, both of Sumter; two stepdaughters, Valerie McCray of Newport News, Va., and Vernita (Terry) Swinton of Sumter; three sisters, Roselee Richardson of Sumter, Ertha Perry of Manhattan, N.Y., and Thomasina (Nathaniel) Ford of Queens, N.Y.; one brother, George (Leola) Blanding of Manhattan, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, Willie (Earline) Williams of Sumter; 12 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Hogue; and one brother, Zackary Blanding.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Heritage Chapel, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
The body will lie in state at 1 p.m. today.
