Addie Richardson Conyers, 96, widow of Paul Conyers, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Hopewell HealthCare Center. Born Oct. 12, 1904, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late John and Lucinda Richardson. She attended Clarendon County public schools. In her youth, she joined Antioch UME Church, where she was a member of the missionary society. Survivors include a daughter, LueEthel Conyers Drayton of Rimini; two sisters, Sarah R. Canty of Pinewood and Dorothy Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Allen, Richard, George, Rufus, James and John. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Antioch UME Church, Rimini, with the Rev. Jonathan Smith, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Richard McKnight, the Rev. Dr. S.R. Moitt and the Rev. R. Boyd. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery. Antioch UME Missionaries will serve as flower bearers. The casket will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The funeral procession will leave from the home of her daughter and son-in-law, LueEthel and Irving Drayton, 1556 Drayton-McKnight Road, Rimini. The family will receive friends at the home. Jovon Rokeen Gaymon, 20, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 18, 1980, in Sumter, he was a son of Henretta and James Gadson and Jarrett B. and Barbara Logan. He was a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Sumter public schools and also attended Sumter High School and Lakewood High School. Survivors besides his parents of Sumter include three daughters, Alexus Taquanda Gaymon of the home, Kayla Samone Gaymon of Charlotte, N.C., and Danisha Alexandra Walker of Sumter; a brother, Jarrett B. Logan Jr. of Sumter; three sisters, Ashley J. Gadson of the home, Sherrice S. Logan of Sumter and Gloria Gaymon of Jacksonville, Fla.; a stepsister, Harmony Gadson of Sumter; maternal grandparents, Roy and Mattie Jones; paternal grandparent, Amanda Logan; and maternal great-grandmother, Maggie Copeland, all of Sumter. He was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather, Harry Lee Gaymon Jr.; a paternal grandfather; two uncles, Jake Logan and Bobby Earl Gaymon; and a special cousin, Corey Henry Copeland. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Marion H. Newton officiating. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery. GREENWOOD - Jessie Delbert "J.D." Geddings, 83, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Magnolia Manor. Born June 21, 1918, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Jessie Jacobs and Lula Pritchard Geddings. He was a member of Emerald Baptist Church, where he was a member of the R.E. "Pop" Strom Sunday School Class and was the discipleship director of the church for more than 10 years. He was a member of the Greenwood Lions Club. He retired from Greenwood Packing Plant after 35 years of employment. Survivors include two daughters, Daisy G. Scurry of Darlington and Cynthia G. Elmore of Bishopville; a brother, Bernard Geddings of Sumter; a sister, Emma Lee Nesbit of Sumter; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Wayne Wiggins officiating. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park. BISHOPVILLE - Doris Stokes Hatfield, 76, died Monday, July 30, 2001. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Haston and Algie Lee Stokes. She was retired from Reeves Brothers. Survivors include three sons, Bobby and Donald Hatfield, both of Bishopville, and David Hatfield of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Olin Stokes of Topok, Ariz.; four sisters, Dorothy Farmer, Edna Turner, Lib Stokes and Myrtle Turner, all of Bishopville; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Robert Marvin Hudson Sr., 92, husband of Edna Kolb Hudson, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Thomas E. and Hattie Shorter Hudson. He was a lifelong member and Deacon Emeritus of Bethel Baptist Church. He served the church in many other roles over the years, including as trustee and leader of the Cemetery Committee. He was a longtime retiree of the William Furniture Division of Georgia Pacific. He was first married to the late Estelle Bartlette Hudson for 57 years. Survivors besides his wife include four sons, James W. Hudson and his wife, Mary Alice, of Sumter, Clyde E. Hudson of Sumter, H. Gordon Hudson and his wife, Marilyn, of Pawleys Island, and Thomas R. Hudson and his wife, Vickie, of Lexington; two daughters, Evelyn H. Sniecinski and her husband, Frank, of Sumter; and Esther H. Baker of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Cora L. Hudson of Sumter; a brother, John Thomas Hudson and his wife, Josie, of Pinewood; six sisters, Ruby H. White and her husband, W.T., of Sumter, Trudy H. McLeod of Sumter, Lila H. Elmore of Darlington, Ida H. Geddings of Camden, Docia H. Keech and her husband, Cecil, of Seabrook, Texas, and Mildred H. MASSANUTTEN, Va. - Gaynell McCormick Kennedy, widow of Eli McWhite Kennedy, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Massanutten. Born April 6, 1917, in Langley, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Lottie Mae Owens and Charles Edward McCormick. She was the director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church in Sumter for 18 years and Centennial Associate Reform Presbyterian Church in Columbia for five years. She was active in the Pilot Club and the Woman’s Afternoon Music Club. Survivors include a son, Charles McWhite Kennedy and his wife, Anna Jean Croft Kennedy, of Salem, Va.; a daughter, Judith Gaynell Kennedy Conn and her husband, George M. Conn Jr., of Massanutten; five grandchildren, Deborah Gaynell Conn McCallister, G. Maurice Conn III, Rebekah Louise Conn Foster, Kristy Leighanna Kennedy Maynor and Sharlee McWhite Kennedy; and four great-grandchildren, Brooke O’Shea Conn, Charles Matthew McCallister, Andrew Connor McCallister and Georgia Anne Foster. Deloris Richburg, 63, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia. Born Aug. 27, 1937, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of Julia Vaughn Richburg and the late Horace Richburg. She attended Sumter County public schools. She also attended Morris College. In her youth, she joined St. Matthew AME Church, where she served as a trustee for many years until her health failed. She retired from Campbell Soup Co. in 1982. Survivors besides her mother include a brother, Abraham Oliver of New York; and a sister, Horitiense O. Dubose of New Jersey. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at St. Matthew AME Church, Summerton, with the Rev. Silas Spann, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. TAYLORS - Jeanette Lewis Pannell Stancil, 72, of 109 Waters Road, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in Sumter. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late John Brice and Annie Mae Jacob Lewis. She was a member of Faith Temple in Greenville and attended Wise Drive Baptist Church in Sumter. She was first married to the late Ralph Edward Pannell and then to the late James Wallace Stancil. Survivors include a son, Dr. Timothy L. Pannell of Sumter; two grandchildren, Trent Pannell and Tyler Pannell, both of Sumter; and a sister, Margaret Morgan of Greenville. She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Edward Pannell; and two brothers, Robert Lewis and James Carlton Lewis. FARMERSVILLE, TEXAS - Margaret Louise Harris Osborne Wares, formerly of Sumter, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Hinton Nursing Home of Farmersville. Born Oct. 15, 1917, she was a daughter of the late James and Daisy Montgomery Harris. Survivors include a son, Charlie B. Osborne Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Sumter; a daughter, Kathy O. Smith and her husband, Don, of Farmersville; three grandchildren, Jeremy H. Griffin of Farmersville, Jennifer Hodge and Brandon Osborne; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Dewayne Griffin. MANNING - Alberta Jenkins Williams, 62, of 4250 Bullard Road, Hemingway, wife of George Williams Jr. died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at her daughter’s home. Born June 16, 1939, in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of Elsie Hemingway Jenkins and the late Rufus Demo Jenkins Sr. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. In her youth, she joined St. Mary’s Holiness Church and later became a member of The Holiness Church of Donnely. After moving to Hemingway, she joined St. Phillips Baptist Church, where she served 25 years. Survivors besides her husband and mother, include four sons, George Williams of New Haven, Conn., Johnny Williams of Hemingway, Joe L. Butler of Sacramento, Calif., and Anthony W. Butler of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; a daughter, Judy Conyers of Manning; four brothers, Levi Jenkins, Leroy Jenkins and Don Jenkins, all of Hemingway, and Rufus Jenkins Jr. of Miami, Fla.; three sisters, Jessie Mae Jenkins, Elizabeth Ann Jenkins and Ruthina Jenkins, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
