Sandra Elaine Lloyd Epps
1954-2004
Sandra Elaine Lloyd Epps, 49, widow of Erwin I. Epps, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late William Leon Lloyd and the late Virginia Fields Lloyd.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Taylor of Carthage, New York, Michael Taylor and Charles Epps both of Sumter; a daughter, Michelle Epps of Sumter; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Mack Hemingway officiating.
Burial will be in the Zoar Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1665 Mims Road.

Dorothy Thigpen Galloway
1931-2004
Dorothy Thigpen Galloway, 72, widow of Robert Galloway, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at a local nursing home.
Born in Georgetown, she was the daughter of Gladys Thigpen Gibbons and the late Shelley Thigpen. She was previously married to Clarence DuBose.
Surviving are her mother of Sumter; three daughters, Patsy DuBose Garrison of Myrtle Beach, Kathy DuBose Warren and husband Toby of Sumter, Pamela DuBose Sharp and husband Harley of Cary, NC; three sisters, Donna Ray Rabon and husband George, Brenda Geddings and husband Ralph, Shelley Bendel and husband Jim all of Sumter; two brothers, Bobby Thigpen and wife Eloise of Charleston and Danny Thigpen and wife Shirley of Columbia; 9 grandchildren, Kari Buckner, Tracy Williams, Justin Lewis, Mark DuBose, Missy Gentry, Gary DuBose, Tammy Davis, Eric DuBose and Toby Warren, Jr.; 9 great grandchildren, Landon, Gabrielle, Zack, Megan, Elizabeth, Brandon, Sawyer, Summer and Savannah.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne DuBose and Ricky DuBose; and a daughter Beverly Kay.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Huggins and the Rev. Robert Morris officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin Lewis, Eric DuBose, Gary DuBose, Billy Davis, Toby Warren, Jr. and Donny Buckner.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her granddaughter Tammy, 1308 Boulevard Rd.

Megan Anne Bevan
1958-2004
Megan Anne Bevan, 46, wife of Darryl J. Hatheway, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, S. C. after an extended illness with cancer.
Born in Charlotte, N.C., she was a daughter of Louise Dabbs Bevan and the late John M. Bevan.
Upon graduating from Swarthmore College in 1980, Megan joined the staff of National Geographic, beginning as a writer-researcher in Educational Media and then in Educational Films. She came to National Geographic Television in 1984 as a senior scriptwriter for the newly launched National Geographic Explorer series and was quickly promoted to Associate Producer for Explorer's host studio shoots.
Known not only for her personal integrity, but also as an embodiment of the National Geographic institutional ethos, Megan was the logical choice to create, then direct Explorer's Research Department from 1986 to 1990. In 1991 she took over management of Explorer studio production, a complex job involving studio production between Washington, DC and New York, directing a crew of directors, script writers, and set designers.
She was promoted to Vice President for all National Geographic broadcast and syndicated series which included numerous series domestically and extensive international distribution in a period of worldwide expansion for National Geographic Television. Megan became an integral part of the programming team that developed the schedule line-up for the launch of the National Geographic Channel, now one of the fastest growing cable channels in the U.S. market.
Besides her husband and mother, Megan is survived by two stepsons, Dylan and Nigel Hatheway and a stepdaughter, Colette Beers; two sisters, Brenda Bevan Remmes and her husband Bill of the Salem Black River Community; and Elizabeth Bevan and her husband Dan Clodfelter of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, John Bevan, Jr. and his wife Kathryn of Great Falls, Va.; and six nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday at Salem Black River Presbyterian Church, Mayesville.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the Bevan home on Brick Church Road, Mayesville.

Lt. Col. Retired Gregory John Renko
1949-2006
Gregory John Renko, (LTC. Ret.), 56, husband of Diane (Dee) Hollingsworth Renko, died Saturday, January 14, 2006 at MUSC in Charleston, S.C.
Born on July, 16, 1949 in Duluth, Minn. He was a son of the late George Renko and Jessie Huntsinger Renko.
Mr. Renko was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter and was a graduate of the Air Force Academy in 1973. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Air Force after 25 years of service where he was a former navigator and retrained as a pilot . He flew A-10 at Myrtle Beach AFB, OV-10 at Sembach AB, GE; F-16 stationed at Kunsan AFB, Korea, McDill AFB, two tours at Shaw AFB, one with 9AF Stan-Eval, last 9AFIG, from which he retired. He also trained in the A-7 and served a tour with the AF Reserve training at Warner Robins AFB. He was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Works, National Skeet Shooting Association, S.C. Skeet Shooting Association and Command Bar Stool Association.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of MUSC and to the Life Point Organ Procurement Team that assisted in organ donation.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; one daughter, Kelly C. Renko, one son, Matthew J. Renko both of Sumter; one sister, Renee Harmon of Henderson, NV.
Memorial Services will be held at 3 PM Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Mark Riggs officiating.
Private burial will follow at a later date.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Parish Family Life Center at the church.

Samuel Theodore Plowden
1909-2005
Samuel Theodore Plowden, 96, died February 11, 2005 at the Laurels of Summit Ridge in Arden, N.C. after a brief illness.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Arthur Davis Plowden and the late Mary Elizabeth Kidd Plowden.
Mr. Plowden attended Duke University, later receiving a doctor of chiropractic from Lincoln Chiropractic College. He served in England for the U.S. Army during World War II, then sold life insurance during his later years. He spent the last 55 years in Florence, S.C., until the last six months when he lived in Arden, North Carolina with his daughter, Patti and her family. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Florence.
Surviving are his daughter, Patti Plowden-Ulirsch of Arden, N.C.; two sisters, Polly Plowden McKay of Hilton Head, S.C. and Claire Plowden Richards of New York City, New York; his brother, A.D. Buster Plowden, Jr. of Sumter; two grandsons, Jacob Ulirsch and Nicolas Ulirsch both of Arden, N.C.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Jim Braswell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

William Ferguson Sachs
1928-2005
William Ferguson Sachs,76, husband of Lillian Lindsay Sachs died Saturday April 30, 2005 at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia after a long illness.
Born October 6, 1928 in Bethlehem PA. he was a son of the late Evelyn Gracely Sachs and Edward Julius Sachs.
Mr. Sachs attended Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, PA. where he later served as Chairman of the Board of Visitors. He graduated from the Citadel in 1951 where he was a very active alumnus, having served as President of the Association of Citadel Men and The Citadel Brigadier Foundation.
He served in the Korean War in the Twenty-Fifth Infantry Division, 14th Regiment, and was awarded the Combat Infantry Man's Badge and the Bronze Star.
He went to work for Home Finance Company in Charlotte N.C. in 1954 moved to Columbia in 1963. In 1973 he founded First Financial Corporation, where he was Chairman and President until recently.
Mr. Sachs was the past President and Director of the South Carolina Financial Services Association. He was a past Director and staff member of the University of Colorado National Installment Banking School. He was a member of the committee of several men who first brought Young Life to Columbia.
Mr. Sachs was currently serving on the South Carolina State Board of Financial Institutions, having been appointed by three Governors.
He was a summer resident of Blowing Rock N.C. for many years. He was a member of the Palmetto Club, Capital City Club, Blowing Rock Country Club and St. John's Episcopal Church.
Bill Sachs was a man of great energy and enthusiasm and it showed in every aspect of his life. He flew his own plane up until this recent illness.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years of Columba; one daughter Lindsay Sachs Long and husband Ernest B. Long of Charleston; one son Richard E. Sachs of Columbia; four grandchildren, William F. Sachs III of Columbia; Lilly Sachs of Blowing Rock N.C.; Elizabeth Long and Bethea Long of Charleston and a step-granddaughter Caroline Long Parnell.
He was preceded in death by a son William F. (Billy) Sachs Jr. and a brother Edward Sachs Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church on Wheat St. in Columbia with the Reverend Fletcher Montgomery officiating.
Burial will follow in the Elmwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Charles McCreight, Everett Gasque, Barnes Boyle Jr., Dr. James Weston, C. Edward Williams, Frank Wooten, Gen. D. E. Rosenblum, Charles Fonville, Harold Shokes, Hampton Walker.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. Sunday at the home, 1412 Kathwood Dr.

Marion A. Bolton Harris, 97, widow of Monroe D. Harris, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 at a local nursing facility. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Jack Bolton and Agnes Butler Bolton.
Mrs. Harris was of the Methodist faith and was a former resident of Morningside of Sumter.
Surviving are nine grandchildren, Robert Bob Harris and wife Kathy of Sumter, John Harris and wife Dow of Newport News, Va., Thomas Harris and wife Marie of Jacksonville, Fla., Jim Harris and wife Debra of Hilliard, Fla., Jerry Harris and wife Laura of Cumming, Ga., Cathy Harris of Jacksonville, Fla., Don Harris and wife Rita and Pam Roberts and husband Greg of Fenton, Michigan, Darlene Ames and husband Brian of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Harris of Grand Rapids, Mich. and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald M. Harris and Robert E. Harris .
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her grandson, 380 Mallard Dr.
Entombment will be held in the Lone Oak Cemetery and Mausoleum in Leesburg, Fla.

David Frederick Day
1938-2005
Lt. Col. (Ret.) USAF David Frederick Day, 67, widower of Mary Ann Andrade Day, died Sunday, May 1, 2005 in Decatur, Georgia.
Born in Carnegie, Pa., he was a son of the late David Day and the late Agnes Black.
Mr. Day was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He retired after 22 years in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a school teacher in the Lee County Public Schools for many years before his retirement and later retired from St. Francis Xavier High School in 2004.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda T. Fink of Atlanta, Ga. and Lisa M. Martinez of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, David Patrick Day of Australia; a brother, Richard Day of Pittsburg, Pa.; five grandchildren, Robert David Fink, Victoria Cristina Day, Isabelle Hope Day, Isaac Joseph Day, and Alexandra Mary Day.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Alistair McKay, C.Ss.R. officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
A Prayer Service will be held at 6 P.M. Thursday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with visitation following until 8 P.M.
Memorials may be made to the David F. Day Memorial Scholarship Fund, % St. Francis Xavier High School, 15 School Street, Sumter, S.C. 29150.

Benjamin and Madeleine Richardson
Graveside services for Benjamin Perry Richardson and Madeleine Thompson Richardson will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday May 7, 2005 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross Cemetery at Stateburg with Rev. Dick Archer officiating.
Born February 19, 1915 in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Richard C. Richardson and Martha W. Perry Richardson. Mr. Richardson died February 4, 2005.
Born January 2, 1917 in Hines, California, she was a daughter of the late John Alfred Thompson and Bertha I. Mentzer. Mrs. Richardson died November 25, 1997.
Surviving are two sons, Benjamin Perry Richardson, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C. and John Alfred Richardson of Portland, Oregon; and a daughter, Carolyn Richardson Hagen, of Magalia, California. In addition, Mr. Richardson is survived by a brother, Deas Richardson of Spartanburg, S.C.; two sisters, Mary Northcutt of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Norvelle Gozdziewski of Lynchburg, S.C.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Historic Preservation Trust, in care of Mrs. Amelia B. Harper, 2161 Gion Street, Sumter, SC 29150-5904.

Margaret Elizabeth Yount, 83, widow of Vance L. Yount, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 24, 2005 in Richmond, Virginia.
Born in Lincolnton, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Frank Parker and the late Mary Leona Lynch Parker.
Mrs. Yount was formerly of Sumter and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Y. Cantor and husband Steve of Richmond, Virginia; a son, Steve Yount and wife Mary of Douglasville, Ga; a brother, Bill Parker and wife Alice of Lincolnton, N.C.; a sister, Ruth McGinnis and husband Bergen of Lincolnton, N.C.; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Sumter, S.C. with Rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
