Dorothy Allsbrook Calcutt
1914-2005
Dorothy Allsbrook Calcutt, 90, widow of Hilton Calcutt, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at the Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia.
Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late James Edward Allsbrook and the late Martha Eula Gardner Allsbrook.
Mrs. Calcutt was formerly employed by Charm House.
Surviving are a daughter, Jo Ann Douglas DuBose and husband Oscar of Gilbert; four grandchildren, Lynn DuBose Eaton, Frank DuBose, Alan DuBose, and Michael DuBose; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Atkinson officiating.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 1116 Manning Road, Sumter, S. C. 29150.

Fred E. Wells, Jr.
1919-2005
Fredrick “Fred” E. Wells, Jr., 86, husband of Evelyn A. Wells, died Sunday, April 24, 2005 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Coronaco, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Fredrick E. Wells, Sr. and the late Clara Pinson Wells.
Mr. Wells was twice married first to the late Mary Rayle Wells and later to Evelyn Avin Wells.
Mr Wells was a charter member of Alice Drive Baptist Church and later rejoined First Baptist Church. He graduated from Clemson University in 1940 and received a Master’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 1952. He was a Lt. Colonel in the U. S. Army and served in World War II and retired from the United States Army Reserves after 20 years of service. He was the Business Manager and Deputy Superintendent of Sumter School District #17 having retired in 1978. He was a member of the Road’s End Club, past President and former member of the Sumter Rotary Club, charter member of the Cooper River Fishing Club, member of the Millwood Club, member of the American Legion Post #15, former President of the S.C. Airstream Association and was active in many civic organizations.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; three daughters, Patricia W. Lassiter and husband William of Newport News, Va., Rosemary W. Drakeford and husband Meredith (Drak) of Sumter, and Rebecca W. Faile of Darlington; two sisters, Roberta W. Timmerman of Estero, Fla. and Annie Lee W. Daniels of Greenwood; step-children, Norma L. Davis and husband William of Greenville, Rhea L. Rowe and husband George of Townville, S.C., Charlie R. Compton and wife Angie of North Augusta, S.C., J. W. Lloyd, Jr. and wife Casey of Moreno Valley, California; grandchildren, Fredrick Scott Lassiter, Suzanne L. Culotta, Clyatt D. Brady, Morgan E. Drakeford, Robert E. Faile, Mitchell Faile and Paul Faile;, step-grandchildren, Melissa A. Halyckyj, Julie A. Wells, Will Davis, Lisa D. O’Bradovich, Stephanie Davis, Sandy B. DesLauriers, Rene’ Rowe, Chrissy Compton, April Weaver, Travis Lloyd and Jake Lloyd; great-grandchildren, Hannah Faile, Mackenzie Faile, Austin Faile, and Quinn Brady.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise W. Cullum and two brothers, Richard Kendrick Wells and Joe S. Wells.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Pack and Rev. Burton Williams officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Fredrick Scott Lassiter, Sandy Culotta, Morgan Drakeford, Travis Brady, Robert Faile, Mitchell Faile, and Paul Faile.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Barach Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, members of the Road’s End Club, Dr. Phil Brandt, and Dr. Michael Drakeford.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church and other times at the Ramada Inn, Room 111.

Martha Embry Northcutt
1923-2005
Martha Embry Northcutt, 81, died Sunday, April 24, 2005 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Dalzell, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Leland Northcutt and the late Estelle Weldon Northcutt.
Miss Northcutt, affectionately known as “Em”, was a member of Fraser Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Victoria O. Northcutt of Sumter; two nieces, Shirley N. Alsbrooks and husband Steve of Sumter and Vicki N. Clayton and husband Michael of Myrtle Beach; three nephews, Leland Freddie Northcutt, Jr. and wife Pam of Sumter, Charles A. Buck and wife Micky and James A. Buck and wife Kaye all of Hilton Head.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leland F. Northcutt, Sr. and a sister, Eugenia N. Buck.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday at Sumter Cemetery with Rev. Michael Baynai officiating.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service and other times at the home of her niece, 535 Mikom Road.
Memorials may be made to Fraser Memorial Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1746 Highway 521 South, Sumter, S. C. 29153.

Rosa Lee Anderson Russell
1932-2005
Rosa Lee Anderson Russell, 73, wife of Talmadge Russell, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at her home.
Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Anderson and the late Meddie Smith Anderson.
Mrs. Russell retired from Campbell Soup Company with 23 years of service. She was affiliated with New Start Community Church.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; three sons, Edward Floyd and wife Betty, H. D. Floyd and wife Shirley, Roland Floyd and wife Dianne all of Sumter; twin daughters, Rhonda David of Patrick, S.C. and her fiance Chad Smith; and Wanda Simpson and husband Gary of Sumter; three step-sons, Talmadge Russell of Goose Creek, Paul Russell and wife Lynn of Mt. Pleasant, and John Russell and wife Nancy of Sumter; three step-daughters, Betty Russell of St. Stephen, Yvonne Russell of Mt. Pleasant, and Katherine Russell of St. Stephen; two brothers, Herbert Anderson, Jr. of Sumter, Thurmond Anderson of Campbellsville, Kentucky; three sisters, Dorothy Graham of Sumter, Pat Vause of Florence and Pearl Ardis of Pinewood; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Anderson; two sisters, Maybell Floyd and Gayle Tedder.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Turner, and Rev. Nettie Lamb officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 4380 Bush Branch Road.

Gilany Victoria Martin
1925-2005
Gilany Victoria Hardee Martin, 80, wife of Talley Martin, Jr., died Thursday, April 21, 2005 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pitt County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Heber Highland Hardee and the late Katie Baker Hardee.
Mrs. Martin was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church and was retired from Campbell Soup Company.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; two sons, Randy Talley Martin aand Joseph Talley Martin both of Sumter; a sister, Hermana Hardee Thompson of Summerville; three brothers, Jerry Nevil Hardee and Highland Bryant Hardee both of Sumter and Jimmie Green Hardee of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren, David Gavin Martin of Sumter, Jimmy Glahn of Charlotte, N.C. and Michele Sims of Dalzell; a great-grandson, Jacob William Martin of Moncks Corner.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday at New Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Jenkins officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Hardee, Jason Hardee, Dean Graham, Danny Dowless, Charles Dowless, and Stevie Dowless.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of New Calvary Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 445 Ridgeway St.

Esther Ardis Davis
1925-2005
Esther Ardis Davis, 79, widow of Leland E. Davis, went to her eternal home on Thursday, April 21, 2005.
Mrs. Davis was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
She was the beloved mother of four sons, Eldridge Davis and wife Sharon, Wylie Davis and wife B.J., Ike Davis all of Sumter, and James “J.D.” Davis and wife Pam of Manning; three daughters, Debbie Davis and Betty Davis both of Sumter and Violet Wallace and husband Ed of Keysville, Va. She was the loving grandmother of Gina, Lee, Dee, Shannon, Shari, Jamie, Beth, Don Lee, Angel, Megan, Christina, Richard, and Lucy Grace; and also the great-grandmother of Charles, Steve, Autumn, Amber, Tianna, Zachery, and Patrick.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Amber Ardis, Nora Avins, Dove Dantzler, Alice Geddings, Mae Barkley; and two brothers, Robert Ardis and Moses Ardis.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Harold Greene officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Grandsons, great-grandsons, and her son-in-law will serve as Pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 319 Old Manning Road.

Margie Rice Patterson, 83, wife of 65 years to L. C. “Pat” Patterson, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at a local nursing center.
Reared in Bennettsville, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Webster Rice and the late Anna Belle Carson Rice.
Mrs. Patterson attended high school in Bennettsville and was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a daughter, Gail P. Hunter and husband Richard of Roswell, Ga.; a son, Douglas Patterson of Sumter; a brother, Douglas Rice of Jefferson, Ga.; 3 grandchildren, Mike Hunter and wife Dawn of Atlanta, Ga., Jon Hunter and wife Nicole of Charlotte, N.C., and Rich Hunter and his fiancee, Lauren Colletti of Houston, Texas; 3 great-grandchildren, Jack Hunter, Patterson Hunter and Jane Hunter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Northside Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.
Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the residence at Morningside of Sumter, 2500 Lin-Do Court.

Pauline Chance House, 73, wife of John S. House, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Tuomey Healthcare System.
Born in Bladenboro, NC, she was a daughter of the late A.M. Chance and the late Bessie Douglas Chance.
Mrs. House attended St. James Lutheran Church and was a retired administrative assistant with Sumter School District #2.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a son, Mark S. House and wife Allison of Sumter; a daughter, Lisa M. Roupe and husband Brent of Sumter; a sister, Hazel Ward of Georgetown; and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Am Wednesday in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Metze officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

Helen Brockington Richardson, 79, widow of James “Jimmy” Richardson died, Friday, April 15, 2005.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late George Herman Bodeen and the late Alva Larson Bodeen.
Mrs. Richardson was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter and attended Northwestern University. She was a member of the numerous Garden and Bridge Clubs. She was formerly employed as a legal clerk for the South Carolina House of Representatives and was former owner of The Brass Lantern.
Mrs. Richardson was twice married first to the late Dr. F. S. Brockington then to the late James “Jimmy” Smith Richardson.
Surviving are three sons, Rhett Brockington and wife Liz of Charlotte, N.C.,Wayne Brockington of Columbia and Richard Brockington and wife Kathy of Orangeburg, and; two daughters, Sandra Noe and husband Allan of Virginia and Sheri Green and husband David of Lake City; a brother, George H. Bodeen, Jr. and wife Nancy of Chicago, Illinois; a step-son, Jay Richardson and wife Karola of Sumter; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Helena R. Fickling.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Dr. John Barr officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. Sunday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
