Johnnie Pearl Cook Truesdale, 91, widow of Sidney J. Truesdale, Sr., died Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Camden, she was a daughter of the late George S. Cook and the late Mary Truesdale Cook.
Mrs. Truesdale retired from Roses Department Store with 18 years of service.
Surviving are two sons, John B. Truesdale of Winnsboro and Robert “Bobby” Truesdale of Cassatt; three daughters, Alma Bowen of Camden, Thelma Sellers of Lugoff, and Melba Blair of Charleston; a sister-in-law, Idalene Baker of Lugoff; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two special friends, Yvonne Seigley and Bobby Seigley both of Dalzell.
She was preceded in death by two sons, George Truesdale and Sidney Truesdale, Jr.; two brothers, Jim Cook and Henry Cook; and a sister, Eliza Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Marion Watkins and Rev. Albert Truesdale, Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in the Providence Southern Methodist Church Cemetery.
Grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers.

Mildred "Millie" Sarah Copeland
1936-2005
Mildred “Millie” Sarah Copeland, 68, widow of Major Strother S. Copeland, died Sunday, April 10, 2005 at the Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia.
Born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Dubell and the late Mildred Witcraft Dubell.
Mrs. Copeland attended Louisiana College. She was a former real estate agent, a past employee of Bell Telephone Company and was currently owner and operator of Typing Plus. She was an accomplished artist in watercolors, was a former President of the Sumter Artist Guild, and co-organizer of the Fall Fiesta.She was a member of the Retired Military Officer’s Wives Club, and a former volunteer at the SPCA.
Surviving are a son, Joseph C. Pike of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Patricia Lee Copeland of Sumter and Carolyne Edith Copeland of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren; and three beloved Labrador dogs.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Gennello.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Henry Nelson Strange, Jr.
1918-2005
Henry Nelson Strange, Jr., 87, entered the Church Triumphant on Tuesday, April 5, 2005.
Born March 30, 1918 in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Henry Nelson Strange, Sr. and Florence Olive Strange.
He is survived by two daughters, Lynda S. Boyd and her husband John E. Boyd, Jr. and Judith (Judy) S. King and her husband Wayne A. King, III all of Concord, N.C.; four granddaughters, Ashley K. Mangum, Stacey K. Hudson, Kristen B. Parker, and Amanda B. Cox; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Harmon Strange and Sidney Strange both of Sumter, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth White Strange; two brothers, Clifford Strange and Frances Strange.
He retired as a Superintendent of the CSX Railroad, Rocky Mount, N.C. with forty years of service. Mr. Strange served as a Master Sergeant in the 60th Army Air Force during World War II in England, North Africa, and Italy. He was honorably discharged with citations from the military in 1945.
Mr. Strange believed in helping young people and served the YMCA Boards of Florence, S.C. and Rocky Mount, N.C. He was a member of the Kiwanis Civic Club of Rocky Mount. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount for many years and most recently a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Concord, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. John E. Boyd, Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Margaret Anna James Warmoth
1917-2005
Margaret Anna James Warmoth, 87, wife of 69 years of Edward Louis Warmoth, died peacefully Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the home of her daughter, after suffering a stroke in July.
Born November 24, 1917, in Greer, S. C., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Henry James and the late Susie Owen James.
Mrs. Warmoth was educated in the Columbia and Chester schools. She and her husband settled in Sumter in 1940, where they raised their family. A Christian private in her faith, she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she and her family attended. She was formerly employed as a Secretary for Dr. Richard Furman Baker. In earlier years, Margaret loved gardening and won numerous awards for her talents in floral arranging as a member and past President of the Poinsett Garden Club. She loved bridge, playing with one group every other week for over 50 years, and others in recent years as her friends departed. She cared deeply for the Sumter community where she served as a member and Chairman of the Sumter City-County Planning Commission for several years. She served as a volunteer of the Grey Ladies of the Red Cross. A knowledgeable and accomplished genealogist, she was an active member of the Sumter Historical and Genealogical Societies. Her children will remember her happiest times camping beside a stream in the mountains when camping was a rare adventure. Above all, she loved her family.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; two sons, Edward Louis Warmoth, Jr. of Charleston and Francis James “Frank” Warmoth and wife Zoe Rhame Warmoth of Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter, Margaret Anna “Meg” Player and husband Tommy of Sumter; a sister, Sara Stringfellow of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren, Wren Cook, Tommy Cook, Holly Jackson Garrity, Katie Jackson Atolli, Thomas Player, James Warmoth, and Anna Warmoth Carbone; three great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Tommy Cook of Columbia; a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She will be eternally missed by those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Sue Cook; her siblings, Joe, Ruth and Elliott; and a great-granddaughter, Sara Anne Garrity.
The family would like to thank Tuomey Hospice and the wonderful people who devote their lives to caring for those approaching death.

Betty Ann Lambert Woodward, 71, widow of Dr. Arthur Stuart Woodward, died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.
Born in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Lambert, Sr. and the late Pamie Ridgill Lambert.
Mrs. Woodward was a retired realtor with Prudential Carolina Realty and was a graduate of the McLeod Infirmary School of Nursing. She attended Sea Coast Community Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Surviving are three sons, Mark Woodward of Greenville, Larry Woodward and wife Nancy Lee of Sumter, Bryan Woodward and wife Tracie of Summerville; two daughters, Lorinda Richter and husband Terry of Greenwood, Cheryl Brunslik and husband John of Petaluma, California; a brother, Daniel Lambert, Jr and wife Jeanette of Manning; a sister, Joyce Shorter of Sumter; 9 grandchildren, Kyle Richter of Greenwood, SC, Paige Richter of Greenwood, Morgan Brunslik, Kristin Brunslik both of Petaluma, California, Kayla Woodward, Brandon Woodward both of Summerville, Roland Woodward, Tucker Woodward and Liza Woodward all of Sumter.
Mrs. Woodward was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Nevelle Lambert.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Monday at Old Fort Baptist Church in Summerville, SC with the Rev. Dr. Eric Lethco and Kyle Richter officiating.

Bertha Baucom Freeman, 81, widow of Floyd F. Freeman, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the Tuomey Healthcare System.
Born in Concord, N.C. she was a daughter of the late Lee C. Baucom and Joyce Clementine Baucom.
Mrs. Freeman was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church and was retired from Tuomey Healthcare System as a ward clerk after 25 years of service.
Surviving are one son, Sonny Freeman and wife Brenda of Sumter; 5 grandchildren, Patricia Bowen, Michael Freeman, Robin Parker, April Riles and Katie Freeman; 5 great-grandchildren, Mason, Jacob, Allison, Beth and Kameron.
Graveside Services will be at 3 PM Sunday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

Born in Manning, SC, he was a son of the late James Ralph Avin and the late Lillie J. Avin.
Mr. Avin was a Baptist. He was a retired retail salesman.
Surviving are his sons; Robert Darryl and wife, Lisa Avin, of Sumter; James Jeffrey and wife, Vicki Avin of Darlington; and Michael Anthony Avin of Sumter; sisters, Gertrude Frick of Gilbert, SC and Alice Griffin of St. Petersburg, Fla; a brother, Furman Avin, of Sumter. 6 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Eugene Avin, Hubert Avin and Bernard Avin.

Winnifred “Bootsy” Northcutt Holland, 92, widow of Lawrence E. Holland, died Monday, April 4, 2005 at a local nursing center.
Born in Berkeley County, she was a daughter of the late Luther T. Northcutt and the late Elizabeth “Lizzie” Harrell Northcutt.
Mrs. Holland was a member of Dalzell Baptist Church and a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a former school bus driver and lunch room manager at Shaw Heights and Hillcrest High Schools. She was a friend and helper to everyone.
Surviving are a daughter, Winnie Jean Clark and husband Samuel of Concord, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Laura N. Holland of Conover, N.C.; two grandchildren, Denita H. Harliss and husband Kevin of Statesville, N.C. and Larry V. Clark and wife Sandie of Concord, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Adam Clark and Kate Clark; a nephew, Henry Holland and wife Judy of Sumter; two nieces, Wanda Woodham and husband Skeet of Bishopvlle and Florence Holland; adopted by friendship and love, Annie Margaret Vandevander of Sumter.
She was preceded in death by a son, Luther Edward Holland.

Steven B. Okerlund, 45, husband of Pamela Johnston Okerlund, died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Ft. Riley, Kansas he was a son of the late Raymond C.Okerlund and Mariette Torchi Okerlund.
Mr. Okerlund was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and received a B.A. degree in Business Management from St. Leo University. He was a production control manager at Diebold, Inc. and was a member of the Sumter Elks Club.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Christopher Okerlund and Kyle Okerlund both of Sumter; one brother, Mark Okerlund of Sumter; one sister, Anamaria Rhame of Lexington.
